The Omega Pretending to Be an Alpha Was Accidentally Marked by His Boss - Chapter 1
On the weekend, the banks of Jinning Pool on the outskirts of Nandong City were bustling with people.
Most of the visitors were families out for a day trip—enjoying picnics, fishing, admiring the flowers, and taking photos. Across the sandy shores of the pool, small, colorful tents were pitched one after another.
Amidst this peaceful, harmonious scene, several men dressed in black quietly dispersed into the crowd. Their solemn expressions clashed sharply with their surroundings. Moving like gusts of wind past the civilians, their alert eyes swept the area, searching intently for something.
The clothing around their waists bulged slightly, a clear sign that they were carrying weapons.
One of the black-clad men, wearing glasses, tapped his earpiece. “Captain, target spotted. Moving toward your nine o’clock, about one kilometer away from you.”
A few seconds passed before a faint, ragged breath came through the receiver. “Copy that. Number Three, Number Seven—converge on the position!”
The man with glasses paused. “Captain, are you feeling alright?”
“I’m fine, just ran too fast,” the reply came after a brief hesitation, the voice clearly strained.
Once the call disconnected, Qiu Nan put away his earpiece, his body trembling uncontrollably.
Good, good. There’s still a kilometer left. There’s still time.
An emergency had struck the Bureau today. Several detained monsters had injured two colleagues and broken out of their cells. Qiu Nan had rushed out in such a hurry that he hadn’t even grabbed his uniform jacket—which meant both his suppressants and scent-blockers were still left in its pockets.
He could feel his body temperature rising, and worse, his unique Omega pheromones were beginning to leak out uncontrollably.
He had been careless. He hadn’t expected a mere D-rank monster to be capable of disrupting his hormone levels. During the arrest, he had brushed past the creature for just a split second and immediately fallen victim to its trick.
Fortunately, thanks to his colleagues intentionally driving the target away, the monster hadn’t affected any ordinary civilians yet.
However, a faint scent of mango pheromones lingered everywhere Qiu Nan passed. Several Alphas walking by were already eyeing him with blatant, predatory curiosity.
In modern society, the laws protecting Omegas were comprehensive, so he wasn’t particularly worried about his safety during a sudden heat cycle. But.
Fuck!
He had passed himself off as an Alpha for so many years; was his secret finally going to be exposed today? He would absolutely be fired for deceiving the organization!
Because the vast majority of monsters could affect Omega hormones, it was a universally accepted bias that Omegas were unsuited for work at the Monster Control Bureau—especially field duty, where it was far too easy for things to go sideways during a mission.
Consequently, by unspoken convention, the Bureau never appointed Omegas to field positions. There was no written rule against it, but it was just that unreasonable.
Yet he, Qiu Nan—an Omega—was not only a field agent, but the captain leading an entire field squad!
More importantly, dropping the ball during a critical mission was a surefire way to get kicked off the team immediately.
Qiu Nan deliberated for a mere two seconds before casually grabbing a passerby.
He tilted his nose up and sniffed, but caught nothing.
This person was either a Beta or an Alpha who wasn’t releasing pheromones. If they were an Omega, they would have a hundred percent been triggered by him at this proximity, and the two of them might have gone into heat together until they lost their minds.
That would be a truly spectacular disaster.
Qiu Nan pulled out his Monster Control Bureau ID. Without bothering to open it, he quickly flashed the black leather cover in front of the man. “Police. What’s your gender classification?”
The man raised his eyebrows, looking at him with an expression of utter bewilderment for a few seconds. “Alpha.”
Qiu Nan shook his head, which was starting to feel heavy from the fever, and dragged the man into the nearby woods by his tie.
Clinging to his remaining thread of sanity, he yanked open his own collar and pointed to the back of his neck. “Do me a favor. Give me a temporary mark.”
The Alpha: “?”
The man who claimed to be an Alpha stared down at Qiu Nan with a pair of cold, evaluating eyes.
The Omega in front of him was doing his best to suppress the instincts of a heat cycle, but he was clearly failing. His gaze fluctuated between sharp clarity and dazed confusion.
Though his speech and manners seemed a bit brash at first glance, up close, he was actually quite bright and handsome.
Long eyelashes rested gently over his bright eyes, and the straight bridge of his nose hinted at a somewhat stubborn streak. His skin didn’t look like it was meticulously pampered, yet it wasn’t rough at all. His thin lips lent a touch of vibrant energy to his good looks.
What a pity that he was a bad guy who loved to badmouth people behind their backs!
What shocked the Alpha even more was that this guy was actually an Omega!
While the Alpha appraisal took place—the man recalling certain unfriendly remarks Qiu Nan had directed at him in the past—Qiu Nan’s breathing began to scorch his throat.
Fumbling around, he fished a crumpled hundred-yuan bill out of his pants pocket. He smoothed it out with trembling hands and thrust it in front of the man. “Hey, let’s make a deal. I definitely won’t cling to you afterward. Just a temporary mark.”
He guessed the guy might be worried about falling into a badger game trap.
It made sense. What decent Omega would randomly grab someone in broad daylight and beg for a mark?
The mango-scented pheromones continued to leak into the air, filling the entire grove with a sweet, sugary aroma that made the Alpha unconsciously lick his lips.
He actually quite liked this scent.
He looked at Qiu Nan in silence, his gaze darkening in the dim light of the woods.
He decided to take advantage of this “perfect opportunity” to teach Qiu Nan a little lesson—a tax, if you will, for deceiving the organization.
“Not enough?” Qiu Nan thought the man was being strangely difficult. He searched his pockets again and pulled out a fifty-yuan note. “That’s all I’ve got on me!”
The Alpha stared at the money in his hand and let out a cold laugh. “Officer, you make me out to be far too cheap.”
“Fine, fine, fine, name your price! I’ll scan your QR code and pay you later!” Qiu Nan was reaching his limit and let out an impatient shout. “This is a requisition! Hurry up!”
If they didn’t speed things up, his mission target would arrive, and so would his colleagues.
He would rather take the risk of letting a complete stranger bite him than face a public execution of his secrets.
Of course, he was confident the man wouldn’t dare push his luck, since he had just used his Bureau ID to impersonate a regular police officer, and the guy seemed to believe it.
The Alpha glanced out toward the edge of the woods, where an occasional curious pedestrian turned their head to look over. He took the two different-colored bills, flicking them lightly between his fingers, his lips curling into a wicked smirk.
Unfortunately, Qiu Nan, whose brain was muddled by the heat, completely missed it.
Struggling to suppress his heavy breathing, he pulled his collar lower and bent his head, completely exposing the fair, delicate skin of his nape—and his most vulnerable spot—to this strange Alpha.
No matter how thick-skinned he usually was, his heart was starting to race now.
He had always been extremely cautious, using suppressants regularly. He had never been marked before and had only seen the process in a middle-school health class.
Those few pages of illustrations had been a total nightmare.
Now, the nightmare had arrived, and he was the one actively welcoming it.
The Alpha looked down at the person before him.
The curvature of Qiu Nan’s bent neck formed a beautiful line, creating a deep hollow at the base. Out of sheer nerves, his knuckles were turning white from gripping his own collar so tightly, yet he still insisted on letting a stranger mark him.
Interesting.
It wasn’t until the Alpha finally released his pheromones that Qiu Nan realized this man had stayed in his scent for so long without letting a single drop of his own leak out.
Generally speaking, no Alpha could completely resist the scent emitted by an Omega in heat; it held a fatal attraction for them. They would always release at least a small amount of pheromones in response—it was a pure bodily instinct.
But this man, just how powerful was his self-control?
Behind him, the Alpha’s pheromones began to take shape, enveloping Qiu Nan in a crisp, rich scent of green pine.
The moment he caught this intense Alpha fragrance, Qiu Nan froze.
“No, wait—” He tried to break free from the suffocating cocoon of the man’s scent, but realized the words coming out of his mouth couldn’t even form a coherent sentence. Instead, it sounded like an incredibly seductive murmur.
His body was gently pulled into a hold from behind by the strange Alpha. A scorching breath fanned against his neck, making him shudder involuntarily.
The sharp pain of teeth piercing his skin lasted for a mere fraction of a second. An unfamiliar, searing current was injected into his gland, spreading from that single point throughout his entire body. It slowly dampened the feverish heat, making him feel as though he were floating in a refreshing summer pond—completely relaxed and comfortable.
But then, summer seemingly turned to winter. His body felt as if it were being pierced by countless icicles, and his organs began to ache with a deep, agonizing pain.
Time seemed to stretch into eternity until nothing else existed. The only thing tethering him to reality was the warm body behind him.
The other man seemed to say something, or perhaps he hadn’t; Qiu Nan couldn’t hear clearly. Waves of pain coupled with unfamiliar sensations violently tore his mind from his body, before crashing heavily against his heart.
Tears streamed down his cheeks, tracing his jawline and dripping onto the ground. He had completely lost control over himself.
He felt as though his heart was about to stop beating.
