The Omega from Last Night Is My Blind Date - Chapter 5
The banquet officially began, and the newlyweds proceeded to toast their guests.
Jiang Manru followed by Bai Yue’s side, her arm linked with hers, a perfect and appropriate smile perpetually on her face. When they toasted elders, she would offer a gentle greeting; when she encountered teasing from peers, she would lower her head shyly.
It was impeccable.
After toasting the final table, Bai Yue led Jiang Manru back to the main table. She sat down and rubbed her temples.
“Are you tired?” Jiang Manru handed her a glass of warm water and asked softly.
“I am fine.” Bai Yue took it and drank a sip. “How about you?”
“I am doing alright.”
The two sat side by side.
“That kiss just now,” Jiang Manru suddenly spoke, her voice very low, “why did you do that?”
Bai Yue turned her head to look at her. “You did not like it?”
“No,” Jiang Manru said, eyes lowered. “I just did not expect it.”
“I wanted to give you a surprise.” Though the words sounded polished, Bai Yue could not clearly define the reason herself.
Jiang Manru was silent for a second before saying softly, “Thank you.”
There was something in that tone that felt different from her usual well-behaved demeanor.
However, Bai Yue did not have time to dwell on it, as she was pulled away by an elder for a photo.
After the wedding banquet ended, the couple returned to their new home together.
Jiang Manru’s belongings had already been moved in.
“Let the servants handle these,” Bai Yue said, taking off her coat and acting considerately. “You have been tired all day, too.”
“I can do it myself,” Jiang Manru politely refused. “You go rest; you do not need to worry about me.”
Bai Yue did not insist, nodded, and prepared to head upstairs.
However, her peripheral vision could not help but drift over.
Jiang Manru’s belongings were very sparse; a few boxes had been enough. She opened the largest one, inside which were neatly arranged books: art history, picture albums, and philosophical treatises. All were reading materials that fit her good girl persona perfectly.
The box next to it contained clothing, folded very neatly and in very light colors. There was another box containing flower-arranging tools and a few elegant, simple vases.
Bai Yue retracted her gaze, feeling that her own bit of expectation just now was laughable.
Of course it was like this. What else could it possibly be?
By the time Jiang Manru finished organizing everything, it was already dark.
Bai Yue stood at the entrance of the master bedroom, looking at the wide bed, and suddenly felt a subtle sense of discomfort.
Sleeping as a pair.
Her and Jiang Manru.
Although she had been mentally prepared for a long time, it was still difficult.
“I will go shower first,” Jiang Manru’s voice came from behind her.
Bai Yue stepped aside to let her pass, watching her silhouette disappear behind the bathroom door.
The sound of water began.
Bai Yue walked to the window, looking at the night view outside. The city lights were like a fallen galaxy, spread out beneath her feet. She lit a cigarette and smoked it slowly.
The bathroom door opened again.
She did not turn around.
“I am done,” Jiang Manru’s voice carried the languor of someone who had just bathed. “You can go now.”
Bai Yue stubbed out the cigarette and turned around.
She froze.
Jiang Manru was wearing a silk nightdress, milky white and knee-length. Her damp hair hung loose over her shoulders, and water droplets slid down the ends, soaking into the fabric at her shoulders. Her skin was fair and luminous, and her lips were a natural pale pink.
The scent of jasmine, mixed with the fragrance of shower gel, spread faintly through the air.
“What is wrong?” Jiang Manru tilted her head to look at her with innocent eyes.
“Nothing.” Bai Yue averted her gaze and walked toward the bathroom.
The bathroom door closed.
She leaned against the door panel and took a deep breath.
At that moment, a strange thought had flashed through her mind. She had seen this scene somewhere before.
It was not the face. It was that languid posture and the sense of relaxation after bathing.
But in that image, the other person was different.
Bai Yue shook her head, turned on the faucet, and splashed cold water on her face.
An illusion.
It must be an illusion.
Late at night, only one bedside lamp was lit in the master bedroom.
Bai Yue lay on one side of the large bed, maintaining a distance of at least half a meter from Jiang Manru. Both lay flat, staring at the ceiling, neither speaking.
“Cannot sleep?” Jiang Manru asked softly.
“Yeah,” Bai Yue replied. “How about you?”
“I am not quite used to it.”
Silence.
“I do not have very good sleeping habits,” Jiang Manru said. “If I bump into you, do not mind it.”
Bai Yue turned her head to look at her. The light from the lamp was dim, and the contours of Jiang Manru’s profile were soft.
“I am a heavy sleeper; it is fine,” she said.
“That is good.”
Silence returned.
Bai Yue turned over, her back to Jiang Manru. She closed her eyes, but felt no drowsiness.
Behind her came the sound of steady breathing; Jiang Manru seemed to have fallen asleep.
Bai Yue closed her eyes, forcing herself to clear her mind.
She did not know how much time had passed when she finally drifted into a hazy sleep.
At 3:00 AM, Bai Yue was awakened by a slight movement.
Jiang Manru was turning over, her movements somewhat restless, and one arm suddenly draped over her waist.
Bai Yue stiffened.
Behind her, a warm body pressed against her, and soft hair brushed against the back of her neck. The scent of jasmine became intense, carrying a certain restlessness.
Heat cycle?
Bai Yue was instantly wide awake. She gently moved Jiang Manru’s arm away and turned over.
In the dim light, Jiang Manru’s brows were slightly furrowed, and her breathing was somewhat rapid. Her cheeks were flushed with an unnatural crimson, and fine beads of sweat dotted her forehead.
“Manru?” Bai Yue called out to her softly.
There was no response, only her body pressing closer.
Bai Yue reached out to touch her forehead; it was a bit hot. The gland on the back of her neck was slightly red, emitting pheromones much stronger than those during the day.
It was indeed the precursor to a heat cycle.
Bai Yue rose quickly and found the Omega inhibitor Jiang Manru had placed in the bedside drawer earlier. She tore open the packaging and expertly administered the injection.
The ice-cold liquid entered her veins, and Jiang Manru’s body trembled slightly. As the inhibitor took effect, her body slowly relaxed. Her breathing gradually stabilized, and her brows smoothed out.
Bai Yue breathed a sigh of relief, tossed the used inhibitor into the trash can, and her gaze scanned the words “Extra Strength” on the packaging.
She lay back down on the bed, but her sleepiness had vanished.
An ordinary Omega would not use this type. Unless one frequently needed to suppress their heat, or it was necessary to use an excessive inhibitor in special situations.
Would a good girl use this?
Bai Yue narrowed her eyes, truly observing this newlywed wife for the first time.
Moonlight filtered through the curtains, casting a faint halo on her face. Asleep, Jiang Manru had lost that deliberate well-behaved demeanor of the day, revealing a degree of authenticity instead.
A real appearance, real breathing, and real body temperature.
There was a slight resemblance to the woman she had pinned beneath her that night.
But she quickly denied this crazy idea.
Bai Yue withdrew her gaze and closed her eyes.
She did not notice that after she turned her back, Jiang Manru’s eyes quietly opened a slit.
Amber eyes flashed with clarity in the darkness, then closed once more.
At 7:00 AM, when Bai Yue was woken up by her phone alarm, the spot beside her was already empty.
She reached out and felt the sheets on that side. They were slightly cool; the person had been up for a while. A faint scent of jasmine still lingered in the air, completely different from the intense, restless aura of last night. At this moment, it was perfectly restrained, sweet, clean, and harmless.
Bai Yue stared at the ceiling.
The memory of last night’s Extra Strength inhibitor was still spinning in her mind.
She got up and walked into the bathroom. When she finished washing up and came out, Jiang Manru was walking out of the walk-in closet. She was already dressed neatly in a light blue dress with a beige cardigan over it, her long hair braided into a loose plait hanging over one shoulder. She had light makeup on, her complexion looked good, and there was no trace of the disheveled state from last night’s heat.
“You are awake?” Jiang Manru looked up at her, the corners of her lips curving into a gentle arc. “I made some simple sandwiches for breakfast. Do you want to add anything else?”
Bai Yue’s gaze lingered on her face for a moment.
She could not detect anything unusual.
“No need.” She headed toward the walk-in closet.
Ten minutes later, the two sat at the dining table.
Bai Yue drank her coffee, while Jiang Manru took small bites of her sandwich. The morning light spilled in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, and everything looked like a serene painting.
“How are you feeling?” Bai Yue put down her coffee cup and asked casually.
Jiang Manru’s movements paused, and her cheeks turned slightly red. “Much better. Last night, I am really sorry.”
“Are the inhibitors enough?” Bai Yue continued to ask, her tone like an ordinary concern. “You should prepare that type of extra-strength inhibitor in advance.”
Jiang Manru raised her eyes, her amber irises clear to the bottom. “Yes, I have. I prepared some in advance.” She paused, her voice even softer. “When I was in the UK, my cycle was sometimes unstable, and the doctor prescribed them. After coming back to China, I got used to using that kind.”
The explanation was complete.
Bai Yue nodded and did not pursue the matter further.
Jiang Manru lowered her head and continued eating her sandwich, her eyelashes casting quiet shadows beneath her eyes. Sunlight fell on her profile, and every inch of her spelled the word well-behaved.
“By the way,” Bai Yue began, “what do you think about the honeymoon?”
Jiang Manru looked up at her.
“My mom booked a trip to the Maldives for seven days.” Bai Yue’s fingers tapped lightly on the rim of her coffee cup. “If you are not feeling well, we can postpone it or change to a closer location.”
This was a test, though not entirely.
To be honest, Bai Yue had no expectations for a honeymoon. Seven days in the same resort with a wife she did not know well, staring at each other every day.
Just thinking about it felt suffocating.
“No need to change,” Jiang Manru’s voice was soft but firm. “Mom has already arranged it; if we cancel suddenly, she will be worried.” A hint of considerate thoughtfulness flickered in her eyes. “And this is our honeymoon; it happens once in a lifetime. I do not want to miss it.”
When she said this, her face was slightly lowered, her tone carrying a perfectly appropriate mix of shyness and anticipation.
Bai Yue looked at her. “Alright, then we will depart as planned.”
A fleeting, faint curve brushed across Jiang Manru’s lips.
Is spending a honeymoon with a newlywed wife really that boring?
Nine hours later, Maldives.
When the plane landed, there was an endless expanse of blue outside the porthole. The seawater transitioned from light blue to deep blue, sparkling under the sun.
Jiang Manru leaned against the seat, looking at the sea through the window. Her eardrums felt uncomfortable, and a slight sense of pressure made her frown slightly. With her heat cycle, her body was still in a fragile state, and the exhaustion from the long flight was more pronounced than usual.
“Not feeling well?” Bai Yue’s voice came from the side.
Jiang Manru turned her head and met those scrutinizing eyes.
“I am fine, just a bit of ear pressure,” she said, gently rubbing her earlobe and smiling. “It will pass soon.”
Bai Yue withdrew her gaze from her face and said nothing.
Deplaning, customs, and transferring to a seaplane. By the time they finally reached the resort, it was already 4:00 PM local time.
The receptionist was an enthusiastic local girl who helped them move their luggage while explaining the island’s facilities and services in fluent English.
Bai Yue handled the situation, while Jiang Manru followed quietly behind her, occasionally nodding and smiling.
The standalone water villa was built over the turquoise sea, and one could go directly into the water from the terrace. The room was large, with floor-to-ceiling windows facing the sunset, and orange-red light covered the entire surface of the sea.
“So beautiful.” Jiang Manru walked to the terrace and sighed softly.
Bai Yue stood behind her, watching her silhouette gilded by the sunset. The sea breeze blew through her hair, and the scent of jasmine drifted over now and then.
“Do you like it?” Bai Yue asked.
“Yes.” Jiang Manru turned back to look at her, the light of the sunset reflected in her eyes. “Thank you, Bai Yue.”
Thank you for what? Thank you for playing along with this performance?
Bai Yue did not say it aloud, only smiled. “As long as you like it.”
Dinner was at the resort’s beach restaurant.
Candlelight, seafood, champagne, and a live performance by a local band. Everything was as romantic as a movie scene.
Jiang Manru wore a white long dress, her hair loose, looking exceptionally soft in the candlelight. She ate lobster in small bites, occasionally looking up at Bai Yue before quickly averting her gaze—a standard newlywed wife routine.
Bai Yue played along with her performance, pouring her champagne, helping her cut steak, and occasionally saying a few indifferent sweet nothings. “This dress suits you very well.”
Jiang Manru lowered her head and smiled. “I like this one you chose.”
The dress was indeed sent by Bai Yue, but it was prepared by Lin Wei—including the several brand-new vacation outfits in Jiang Manru’s suitcase, all of which were styles that fit the good girl aesthetic: simple, appropriate, and faultless.
Everything was perfect.
“Shall we dance?” The band switched to a slow song, and Bai Yue asked.
Jiang Manru raised her eyes, somewhat surprised. “Here?”
“What is wrong with here?” Bai Yue stood up and extended her hand toward her. “We are newlyweds, is it not normal for us to dance?”
Jiang Manru looked at that hand and hesitated for a second before placing her hand in it.
Bai Yue’s fingers closed, gripping her hand.
The touch was warm, soft, and her bones were delicate.
On the beach, candlelight flickered.
Bai Yue held Jiang Manru’s hand with one hand and wrapped her other arm loosely around her waist, and the two swayed slowly to the music.
Jiang Manru kept her head down, her forehead almost touching Bai Yue’s shoulder, looking incredibly shy.
“Shall we go rest if you are tired?” Bai Yue asked near her ear.
“A little,” Jiang Manru’s voice was muffled. “The flight was too long.”
“Then let us go back early?”
“Okay.”
The song ended, and Bai Yue let go. Jiang Manru took a step back and looked up at her, her eyes filled with shy gratitude. “Thank you, Bai Yue. Today, I am very happy.”
Bai Yue smiled but did not speak.
What she was thinking in her heart was: My acting is really good.
