The Omega Becomes The Zerg Queen - Chapter 40
Chapter 40: Alpha?
Not many people knew her contact number. Who could be sending her a message at this hour?
Su Lili clicked on the flickering message window. Before she could look closely at the text, her attention was completely captured by two pop-up photos.
One was a pink base adorned with pure white lace trim. A white waistband perfectly outlined the waistline of the mannequin—it was a maid outfit complete with a white apron?
The other one was black.
Why would someone send her something like this?
Su Lili scrolled to the bottom to check the sender: Sangis.
It was that rude Zerg from the other day. Aside from the two photos, there were no other messages; the way this person sent messages was just as arrogant as his temper.
Su Lili replied: ?
The reply came quickly. Sangis: Which one looks better?
To be fair, aside from the color, there was no obvious difference between the two maid outfits. But if she had to choose…
Su Lili: The pink one, I guess. Su Lili: Why are you asking?
Sangis: None of your business. Sangis: You’ll know on the day we meet.
Su Lili: ?
No matter what she sent after that, there was no further reply. What on earth was this guy up to? Two bold ideas popped into her head.
Was this Zerg planning to buy it for her to wear? Or was he going to wear it for her?
…Based on the “tall man” disguise she had used that day, seeing that face in this dress would be… quite a sight to behold. If Sangis wore it himself, given his delicate and handsome features, it might actually look okay.
But she didn’t have such a specific fetish…
Su Lili: I won’t wear it. Su Lili: And don’t you wear it either.
…
Inside the Grade President’s office, Sangis stared at the message on his Star-Brain with a deep frown.
He had spent an entire day researching how to be an “excellent servant.” According to the guides on the Star-Net, high-class servants wore uniform clothing. These two sets were currently the top sellers with 100% positive reviews.
The Zerg who had been by her side that day hadn’t done this, but he was different. If he was going to do it, he was going to be the best servant.
—He absolutely had to outshine that eyesore of a Zerg.
So why was this person refusing?
He picked up his Star-Brain and messaged the shop owner: My master told me not to wear it?
The shop owner replied instantly: Some masters have shy personalities and don’t like to be honest about what they want, dear. Sweetie, you can just wear it in front of him. Some male Zerg are always saying the opposite of what they feel. If your master isn’t satisfied, we even offer a full refund!
Sangis propped his head up and looked at the shop owner’s reply, letting out a sneer.
“Saying I shouldn’t wear it, yet replying to my messages so quickly… she must be checking her Star-Brain constantly waiting for my news, full of anticipation.”
“Duplicitous. That sounds exactly like something she would do.”
“Since that’s the case, I’ll satisfy her wish and wear it for her.”
…
Just as Su Lili thought the other side wouldn’t respond, the overbearing Top Student replied with two words.
Sangis: Naggy.
His refusal to communicate properly made her blood pressure rise. Flexing her fingers, Su Lili typed: This attitude is not what a qualified servant should have.
Sangis: Our bet is only for one day, and it hasn’t started yet, has it?
…He actually had a point.
This bug’s tone was so bad that Su Lili’s teeth itched with annoyance. She grabbed her Star-Brain and tapped away furiously. Originally, she didn’t care if he actually fulfilled the bet, but his attitude today was just too terrible. She had seen on the Star-Net that he was a famous figure in the academy. In that case…
Su Lili: The pink dress is quite nice. You should wear that set on that day.
Hmph.
Sangis curled his lips into a smirk. Changing her tune so quickly. She really is duplicitous, probably worried I actually wouldn’t wear it. It seemed he was right—this bug really wanted to see him in it.
Sangis: Got it.
Su Lili also smiled. She closed her Star-Brain, feeling a bit of anticipation for the meeting.
But before that…
Her gaze focused on her left fingertip. Had something just… touched her?
The clear hot spring water was transparent to the bottom; her naked eye couldn’t see anything unusual. What about mental power? Though mental power was precious, it had to be used when necessary.
With one hand on the Star-Brain’s alarm button, Su Lili extended her mental power into the water. Her semi-transparent mental tentacles searched the bathtub thoroughly, leaving no corner unturned. Finally, in a gap near her feet, she pulled something out.
It was an entirely transparent creature. If not for her mental tentacles binding its body—revealing a slight, undulating cylindrical outline—it would have blended perfectly into the air.
“What kind of creature are you?” She poked it.
The cylinder wobbled with wave-like patterns. Realizing it had been discovered, the transparent body gradually flushed with a faint purple hue, eventually turning into a bouncy, jelly-like slime.
Even while bound by the mental tentacles, it didn’t seem afraid. Its two “bean” eyes looked at her obediently, and it nudged her finger. The soft, squishy texture was very stress-relieving.
Su Lili reached out with her “evil claws” and gave it several firm squeezes. The plump slime was squashed flat by her grip and slowly bounced back once she let go. After a few repetitions, Su Lili was very satisfied with the texture. Having a pet like this would be quite nice.
She took a photo and searched the web, but strangely, there was no record of such a creature on the Star-Net. There were “slimes,” but ordinary slimes didn’t have a stealth skill.
Su Lili held it up to her eyes, staring at the cute, dumb bean eyes.
“Are you a slime? Blink once for yes, twice for no.” It blinked twice. …Quite honest.
Su Lili asked again: “Was it you who came in through the window just now?” One blink.
Su Lili: “Are you here looking for me?” One blink.
Su Lili: “What are you looking for me for?” The moment she asked, she realized the slime couldn’t answer that. She changed the question: “Do you want to stay?” One blink.
Su Lili arched an eyebrow. “But why should I let you stay? Your origin is unknown; you’re very suspicious.”
The slime wobbled left and right in her hands, looking very nervous. After a moment of stalemate, a fragrance gradually began to emanate from its body. It was a very faint scent of violets. It was a scent she was very familiar with from her past life, but one she had never encountered in this galaxy.
Her pupils shook. Su Lili looked it up and down in disbelief.
—Why did this slime have the scent of Alpha pheromones?
And based on the smell, it wasn’t a low rank. Once the scent appeared, the color on its body lightened significantly, turning it into a gradient purple slime. It shook itself, and soon stopped emitting pheromones.
“Alpha?” Su Lili stared at it and asked.
The slime looked at her, unmoving. It probably didn’t know what “Alpha” meant.
“Did you come from the same place as me?” she asked differently. One blink.
“Blue Star?” It stopped moving again. It seemed this little blob didn’t have a very high IQ.
Su Lili flipped it over and looked at it a few more times. The way the slime allowed her to squash and roll it made it look harmless. She asked the system: “Is he my fellow countryman? Is he so unlucky that he turned into a slime?”
System: Please work hard to discover the truth yourself, Host.
Fine. Regardless, based on the pheromones alone, she had to keep it.
She got up and rummaged through the bathroom counter, finding a transparent glass jar originally used for decoration. Su Lili turned back and placed the slime—whose top half had turned a bit pink—inside. She closed the lid and carefully fastened the latch.
The jelly-like slime pressed itself tightly against the inner wall closest to her, looking like it really wanted to come out.
“No can do,” she tapped the outside of the glass. “Even though you look harmless, for safety’s sake, you’d better stay in there for now.”
It shook violently, looking very unwilling.
“I’ll observe you for a few days. If there’s truly nothing wrong, I’ll let you out,” she promised (offering a “pie in the sky”). Upon hearing this, the slime squatted at the bottom of the jar and stopped moving, radiating an aura of “I am very obedient.”
With this interruption, she lost the mood for her bath. After changing into loungewear, she carried the jar out of the room. She placed the glass jar on the nightstand, staring eye-to-eye with the slime.
Should I ask Lucius? Maybe there were records of such a creature in the Temple. But how would she explain the smell of pheromones? That concept didn’t exist among the Zerg.
Speaking of which, her own birth was quite strange. According to Zerg history, the King’s Egg is born in the Mother Nest, yet she had hatched underground on a trash planet. Because of a certain guilty conscience, she had never dared to ask questions about it. But thinking carefully, there was no precedent in Zerg history for a King’s Egg being lost.
Was the egg she hatched from a real King’s Egg? Although the Mother Nest recognized her identity, a body as unique as hers didn’t look like a normal Queen.
It wasn’t until a system notification chimed that she realized she had accidentally spoken her thoughts aloud.
System: Main Quest: Ascend the Throne (38/100) Quest Description: The birth of a King does not rely entirely on bloodline. Don’t worry, you are doing very well.
…This description was almost a confirmation. She wasn’t a “normally” born King. The sudden passing of the previous Queen, the frequent mentions of %&*# in system quests, and what Vra had said to her that day…
Su Lili tested the system: “Is my birth related to %&*#?”
The system didn’t answer directly, but the quest progress slowly increased by 2%. It seemed she had guessed correctly. She tried a few more theories, but the system didn’t react at all, no matter how she asked.
System: Currently insufficient clues. Please do not make random guesses, Host.
It seemed her guesses would only be recognized by the system if she held a certain amount of evidence. Without enough clues, the system wouldn’t let her exploit loopholes with wild guesses.
Su Lili looked at the harmless slime in the glass jar. A spark of inspiration hit her.
“Is it also related to %&*#?”
The quest progress increased by 1%. As expected.
A rough outline began to form in her mind. She and the slime had probably been pulled into this world together by %&*#. She didn’t know what the purpose of %&*# was, but she—an Omega—had become the Zerg Queen, while this Alpha had turned into a silly slime.
“Sigh.” She looked at the glass jar and sighed. “I’ll take care of you for now.”
