The Omega Becomes The Zerg Queen - Chapter 23
Chapter 23: Outside the Door
“Well then.”
Fra walked slowly to the side of the iron cage and clapped his hands. As if by magic, the cage containing the beast slowly descended back into the ground.
His voice drifted from a distance, “I look forward to our next meeting, Your Majesty.”
“There won’t be a next time.”
Having exhausted her physical strength, Su Lili had no energy left. She leaned against the metal wall, her eyelids drooping as she watched him depart.
Once Fra and the cage vanished, the incandescent lights in the training room flickered out.
The training room was a fully enclosed secret chamber made of metal; without the overhead lights, there was no other light source. As the glow faded, the room plunged into a deathly darkness, so quiet that only the girl’s faint, shallow breathing could be heard.
Su Lili lifted her gaze to the system panel.
Remaining D-rank Mental Power: 5%…
The good news was that despite the dangerously low levels, she hadn’t fallen unconscious yet.
The bad news was that with her mental power nearly depleted, the suppression of her pheromones had utterly vanished.
The glands that had been suppressed for so long seemed to strike back in retaliation. They were now burning hot, incessantly pouring out pheromones as if to express their dissatisfaction at being neglected. In the hollow, airtight room, the thick, sweet scent gradually filled every corner.
Slumped against the wall, Su Lili tilted her head back slightly. Her delicate neck erupted in goosebumps from the contact with the ice-cold metal. She knitted her brows. She couldn’t just sit here and wait for death.
Her current state would invite a lot of trouble; it was truly unsuitable for her to be seen by too many people.
Had the signal she sent earlier worked? And the “uninvited guest” Fra mentioned—who could it be?
BOOM— BOOM—
Violent crashing sounds echoed from outside the chamber. The massive impact caused the metal walls to shudder and vibrate.
Someone was here.
“Who is it?”
Su Lili lifted her chin and called out, her voice coughing slightly. Unlike her usual tone, the King’s voice was now palpably weak and strained.
Zephyros’s heart suddenly constricted. His mind went blank, and he could barely catch his breath.
“It’s me, Zephyros,” he replied, his voice trembling.
Worry and anxiety for the King occupied his entire conscious mind. Deprived of the ability to think rationally, he relied on his rawest instincts. He didn’t stop, throwing punch after powerful punch at the door. Fra had clearly come prepared; the door to the secret chamber was exceptionally reinforced. Even with Zephyros’s top-tier Zerg physique, he couldn’t break through immediately.
His knuckles smashed against the hardened door until they were raw and bloodied. The man outside seemed oblivious to the pain, putting his full strength into every strike against the metal.
“Are you alright, Your Majesty?” he asked urgently.
Thank god, it’s Zephyros.
Su Lili breathed a sigh of relief. Of all the Zerg she was familiar with, Zephyros was the one she trusted the most. He wasn’t sensitive like Lucius, nor was he perverse like Phelan. The tall man spoke little, but he was always a silent, steady presence by her side, providing an infinite sense of security.
“I’m fine.”
She lifted her head, her high ponytail dragging against the wall, becoming slightly disheveled. The sharp sting of the cold wall helped her foggy consciousness regain some clarity. She remembered that when she first entered this room, there was a door.
“To the left of the wall. I remember there was a door there.” “Try to find the seam of the door.”
The violent pounding stopped instantly. Soon, a response came from outside.
“I found it, Your Majesty.”
A narrow blade pierced through the seam of the door, slicing through the gap at high speed. The friction sent sparks flying. Zephyros followed the line of the blade, forcibly prying the door open.
The stagnant air in the chamber suddenly began to circulate. Even through the tiniest of cracks, the dense, sweet fragrance began to seep out. The scent of her pheromones was strikingly obvious in the heavy air, which was already thick with the smell of blood.
The sweetness that had been accumulating was far more potent than before, and the effect was naturally more staggering.
Outside, Zephyros was initially just drawn to the scent. He tried to sniff it with restraint, but before he knew it, he was pressed against the crack of the door. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he pressed his high nose bridge against the gap, greedily inhaling the scent.
Even his bone wings—usually so arrogant and domineering—pressed tightly against the outside of the crack, trying to monopolize the girl’s pheromones.
The sealed door had been cut open; the person outside only had to push to enter. Su Lili quickly shouted, “Zephyros, do not come in yet.”
This time, the man did not respond immediately.
After a long pause, a deep, muffled “Mmm” came from outside, sounding as if it had traveled from the depths of the ocean. Feeling that such a reply was too brief for the King, the man added breathlessly, “As you command, Your Majesty.”
His voice was hoarse, sounding as if it had been ground down by sandpaper.
Zephyros leaned against the door and stopped moving. His strength and physique were immense; he could have pushed the iron door open with ease, but he didn’t. A single, light command from the Queen was enough to keep him in place, making the violent dragon willing to wear a collar and chain.
But the threads of sweet pheromones never stopped entering his nose and body, making his entire being flush with heat, feeling as though he might burst. His features were sharp and wild—usually, he suppressed this when facing the King, appearing calm and steady.
But now, separated by a door and fueled by intense emotion, Zephyros had no mind for expression management. An irrepressible, agonizing look lingered in his eyes. Even his dark skin couldn’t hide the flush on his face and ears. His golden pupils were clouded with a wet mist and a thick sense of possessiveness. His greedy, excited expression looked as if he might tear out an enemy’s throat in the next second.
He felt no pain in his bloodied hands; instead, the wounds on his knuckles brought an infinite itch that traveled through his veins and spread across his entire body.
Pressed against the door, the man couldn’t help but rub himself against the metal in a trance. The cool surface of the iron door offered a slight relief to his agitation. Zephyros narrowed his eyes, his breathing heavy, a few soft groans escaping his throat. Imagining himself separated from the King by only a wall, his movements became increasingly bold and frantic.
Inside the room, Su Lili’s thoughts were racing. Under the current circumstances, it wasn’t suitable for Zephyros to come in, but they couldn’t stay like this forever. She had to get out. She had to leave while her mental power was stable. To suppress these troublesome pheromones, she had to replenish her mental power.
And right now, there was only one way to do that.
Su Lili rubbed the ring on her finger and called out to the door, “Call Phelan here. I need his honey.”
The Queen’s command pierced through Zephyros’s muddled brain, calling back his last shred of sanity. Zephyros’s eyes flickered, and his heart ached with a swelling pain.
Phelan. Phelan again.
That damned Bee-type. Just because of a Honey Chamber, he was so desperately needed by the King.
The man, his head spinning, bared his teeth and couldn’t help but wonder: If I carved out his Honey Chamber and installed it in myself, would that work? Then he would be the one brewing honey for the King. And he would be the one allowed to step through this door.
What was inside? What did the King look like in there?
“Zephyros, are you still there?”
Receiving no immediate response, Su Lili couldn’t help but urge him. “And also, do not tell him the truth.”
The wonderful fantasies in his head reached a peak when the King called his name. Zephyros arched his back, his bone wings curling into a ball. After a deep breath, he ground his teeth and said, “I will do it immediately, Your Majesty.”
Without any delay, Phelan arrived at the location quickly.
Outside the mangled, scarred training room, his former comrade—the “Blade of the Zerg,” the Second Legion Commander, and the dream of a thousand females—was currently leaning tightly against the door. His wide bone wings were dutifully covering the door’s seam without leaving a single gap. The posture looked somewhat undignified.
Phelan frowned. The agitation in his eyes turned into a murderous intent when he saw the man’s disheveled combat uniform.
His voice was as cold as a wraith, “What did you do, Zephyros?”
“The King is inside.”
Zephyros gave him a side-long glance with no further expression. He then raised his voice and called into the room, “King, Phelan has arrived.”
“King~”
Phelan gave a cloyingly sweet call while casting a suspicious eye over the surroundings. What is going on? This place is remote; why would the King be here?
Inside the pitch-black chamber, the thick, seductive sweet scent was dense as smoke. The girl leaning against the wall was pale, a sickly flush on her face, and her neck was burning hot.
Phelan had arrived. On the system panel, his loyalty was still only at two stars. If it weren’t for the need for his honey to restore her mental power, she really didn’t want to summon him in such a state.
This rebellious wild dog knew how to act; he appeared gentle and obedient on the surface, but there was no telling when he might bite back. She absolutely could not let him sense her weakness. Otherwise, this wild dog might take advantage of his master’s vulnerability and strike.
Su Lili propped herself up and gathered her energy. She did her best to maintain her usual tone of voice.
“Hello, Phelan.”
Phelan pressed, “King, why have you summoned me?” His voice couldn’t hide his concern. “Why are you here? Was there an accident?”
“What are you thinking, Phelan?” The Queen’s cold voice drifted from behind the door, carrying a rare hint of anger. “Are you trying to curse me?”
“I wouldn’t dare, Your Majesty.” Outside, even though he knew the King couldn’t see him, Phelan lowered his head in fear, his shoulders trembling as if he were truly frightened. “I was only concerned for the King’s health.”
“Hmph.” The King gave a contemptuous snort. She explained with an impatient tone, “What is prepared in this room today is the punishment for your insolence last night.”
“If you can pass it…”
The way to tame a stray dog was nothing more than the carrot and the stick. In the time it took for Phelan to arrive, Su Lili had already formulated a plan for once he entered the door. She paused intentionally, her tone rising as if to entice him.
“Then I will give you… a reward.”
A reward?!
The two men outside stopped breathing, their bodies tensing. Zephyros’s golden eyes pierced his former comrade like knives as he ground his teeth. Does he even deserve it?
“A reward?” Phelan’s voice was so sweet it could practically drip honey. “I will certainly work hard to complete it. What kind of reward is it, Your Majesty?”
