- The Obedient Stand-in is Raised by the Deceased Husband
- Chapter 4 - Pain, Fear of Pain
The moment Sheng Xuanzhu saw it was Xie Lan, his expression darkened even further. “The disguise mask you gave me is uncomfortable.”
Xie Lan chuckled lightly. “You’ve been wearing it for almost ten years, and now you tell me it’s uncomfortable?”
He placed the paper knife back into Sheng Xuanzhu’s hand and asked softly, “The medicine I gave you didn’t work? Didn’t it tame Shen Que properly?”
Having his wound precisely prodded by Xie Lan, Sheng Xuanzhu’s anger flared even more. “Do you have any medicine that can make Shen Que behave a little better? He was this disobedient back at the Sheng family.”
Xie Lan had come to know Shen Que through Sheng Xuanzhu’s descriptions—possessing Wen Zhibai’s appearance, a plaything kept captive by Sheng Xuanzhu in the Sheng household, and his legitimate omega husband.
Xie Lan sighed helplessly. “To him, you’re a stranger. Of course, he would be afraid and resistant.”
Sheng Xuanzhu recalled the omega trembling with fear last night, a surge of irritation prickling at his heart.
Just as he was thinking, Assistant Bian suddenly pushed the door open and entered, his face urgent. “President Xuan, the servants called to say Mr. Shen has vomited several times and now has a high fever. They wanted to ask if you need to send him to the hospital.”
Xie Lan adjusted his glasses, a wicked smile curling at the corner of his mouth. “President Xuan, last night was quite intense, huh~”
Assistant Bian gave an awkward smile, thinking to himself that only Dr. Xie dared to joke with Sheng Xuanzhu like this. If it were anyone else, they’d probably be headless by now.
“Call a doctor to the mansion to examine him.”
Xie Lan clicked his tongue. “When an omega develops a fever after intercourse, the doctor will definitely need to conduct a full-body examination…”
Before he could finish, Sheng Xuanzhu stabbed the paper knife into a thick stack of documents, his icy gaze sweeping over Xie Lan’s face. “You go.”
Half an hour later, Xie Lan followed Assistant Bian to the villa. As for Sheng Xuanzhu, he claimed he had no time to attend to an omega, let alone Shen Que, who was merely a substitute. It seemed he didn’t care at all about Shen Que’s life or death.
Shen Que’s face was sallow from vomiting, his joints flushed red with fever. His slightly swollen lips were parted as he gasped for breath, a pitiful sight just to look at.
This was Xie Lan’s first time seeing Shen Que. The omega on the bed was the spitting image of Wen Zhibai—no wonder Sheng Xuanzhu had set a trap to bring Shen Que back to his side.
Following procedure, Xie Lan first took Shen Que’s temperature and examined his throat and glands. As he bent down to check for any tearing injuries, a large hand suddenly seized his wrist tightly.
Sheng Xuanzhu frowned. “I’ll do it.”
“How did you get back?” Xie Lan asked in shock.
Sheng Xuanzhu kept his eyes fixed on Shen Que. “The documents are at home. I came back to get them.”
Xie Lan snorted with a laugh. “You’re afraid I’ll touch your precious omega, aren’t you?”
“My omega?” Sheng Xuanzhu’s expression instantly darkened, his tone chillingly cold. “He’s just a substitute. Does he deserve to be my omega?”
“Then don’t dirty President Xuan’s hands. I’ll do it~” Xie Lan said, reaching his hand under the covers.
“Move another inch, and you won’t need that hand anymore,” Sheng Xuanzhu said darkly.
Having spent so long abroad, Sheng Xuanzhu was used to acting lawlessly. Xie Lan knew he meant what he said and wisely raised his hands, stepping aside to guide him through the examination.
Shen Que, still dazed, felt uncomfortable from the pressure and frowned, clamping his legs together as he tried to move away, weakly pushing at the person. “Don’t touch me… It hurts, it hurts…”
Shen Que’s breathing grew rapid, intermittent moans escaping his throat, sounding particularly provocative and ambiguous.
Sheng Xuanzhu sniffed the air lightly; the faint floral scent enveloped the room. Even though he disliked the smell, he still turned and issued a dismissal to Xie Lan, who was a beta. “You go out first.”
Xie Lan glanced at the omega lying on the bed, suffering intensely. The omega was as fragile as thin paper, easily torn, with tear stains at the corners of his eyes, yet unwilling to utter even a whimper. Such a soft, gentle, and innocent omega should have been cherished and pampered in the palm of an alpha’s hand. Unfortunately, he was destined to become Sheng Xuanzhu’s emotional outlet, deceived in body, appearance, and feelings.
As a friend, Xie Lan understood best: unless Wen Zhibai came back to life, Sheng Xuanzhu would never let Shen Que go. Now that Sheng Xuanzhu had changed his identity, he would surely elevate Shen Que to the heavens, shower him with affection, force him to develop feelings, and make him obediently inseparable. Shen Que would continue living in confusion within the script Sheng Xuanzhu had written.
Thinking of this, Xie Lan sighed helplessly.
Before leaving, he placed the medicine Shen Que needed on the bedside table. “Apply the ointment to the swollen areas three times a day.”
Sheng Xuanzhu picked up the medicine bottle, his narrow peach blossom eyes carrying a chill. If he hadn’t returned in time, would Shen Que have tried to seduce Xie Lan with his pitiful whimpers?
He had truly underestimated this omega.
Sheng Xuanzhu couldn’t care less about Shen Que’s feelings.
If Shen Que weren’t sick, he wouldn’t dare to struggle. But now, his entire body burned like a boiled egg, and Sheng Xuanzhu’s merciless torment made him want nothing more than to escape.
“Stay still!”
Unable to help himself, Sheng Xuanzhu slapped Shen Que’s buttocks. Shen Que trembled in pain, burying himself in Sheng Xuanzhu’s embrace with shaky whimpers. Waves of warm, floral-scented breath brushed against Sheng Xuanzhu’s collarbone, igniting a fire within him.
Noticing the tears at the corners of Shen Que’s eyes, Sheng Xuanzhu couldn’t help but ask, “Why do you cry so much?”
Shen Que’s mind was muddled from the fever, and he looked up at Sheng Xuanzhu with tearful, aggrieved sobs. “It hurts… I’m afraid of pain…”
For some reason, he couldn’t stand seeing Shen Que cry. Perhaps it was because Wen Zhibai had never cried before, and Shen Que’s tears only irritated him.
“Don’t cry anymore.”
Shen Que wiped away his tears, not daring to speak again.
Around seven in the evening, Xie Lan made a special trip to check on Shen Que. Seeing that his fever had subsided and he was sleeping soundly, he didn’t disturb him. However, before leaving, Sheng Xuanzhu made a sarcastic remark.
“I’ve never seen Dr. Xie care so much about an omega before.”
Xie Lan tossed back, “I’m afraid you’ll kill him,” before patting his pants and driving away.
When Shen Que woke up, Sheng Xuanzhu was standing by the window, looking at his phone.
It was one in the morning, and the moonlight was faint, casting a lonely silhouette of him.
Recalling the events of the morning and smelling the lingering scent of wood flowers and medicine in the room, Shen Que couldn’t help but frown.
Sheng Xuanzhu had just closed his phone and tossed it aside. The collar of his shirt was unbuttoned, exuding not only a worldly roguishness but also the primal aura of an alpha.
If he didn’t engage in those despicable acts, he would indeed be captivating.
