The Movie Queen's Virtual Little Girlfriend - Chapter 14
Chapter 14: Cold Water
Can such a simple, pure, and optimistic person truly exist in this world? Jiang Yitong still didn’t believe it.
Therefore, Jiang Er could only be someone living in a virtual world, built from piles of code. In reality, Jiang Yitong didn’t think she would ever have the chance to meet such a person.
Even if she did meet one, she would only move in the opposite direction; their personalities were destined to keep them in different worlds.
Jiang Yitong quickly collected her thoughts and saw Jiang Er on the screen put down the plan and look at her.
She suddenly remembered a name that had seemed to flash before her eyes just moments ago, only for her to ignore it.
She asked Jiang Er: Who is the singer whose concert you want to see?
“Jiang Wanyou,” Jiang Er answered quickly. “She has a tour planned this year. I really want to go.”
Jiang Yitong knew a little about the singer Jiang Er mentioned. She had heard two or three of her songs and knew she held a high position in the music industry.
There were over a hundred famous singers in the music scene, but the fact that Jiang Er specifically mentioned this name was likely a private setting by the game developers.
Jiang Yitong: Good.
Jiang Er’s already clear eyes brightened even further, full of anticipation. “But I want us to go together.”
Jiang Yitong replied bluntly, not intentionally mean, but it certainly poured cold water on her enthusiasm: Have you ever thought that perhaps I have no interest in this singer?
Jiang Er froze for a moment, then revealed an expression of annoyance. She suddenly leaned close to the camera, her eyes instantly magnified, still sparkling.
Within those eyes seemed to be a crystal-clear lake, and through that lake, one could see straight into the pure depths of her heart.
“Yitong, I forgot to ask for your opinion…Then let’s go see a concert for a different singer. We’ll go see one you’re interested in. Yitong, which singer do you like? I’ll go check if they have any tours this year.”
Jiang Yitong didn’t have a favorite singer. She listened to music rarely; occasionally, she would shuffle through some pop tracks, hearing whoever popped up next without making any choices herself. Most of the time, she preferred pure instrumental music that could soothe her mood.
Jiang Yitong: I don’t have any.
“That’s okay too! We can just try listening to one first and experience the atmosphere of a live show.”
It was clear that Jiang Er was truly making an effort to be able to go to a concert with her.
She had previously promised to “accompany” Jiang Er to watch snow and fireworks. Those two things were almost commonplace, as long as one was in the north, they would see snow, and as long as it was New Year’s Eve, someone would always be setting off fireworks.
Those were things reachable once the time was right, but a concert was different, the process was cumbersome.
She decided not to play along with Jiang Er anymore and replied directly: Let’s change this one.
After sending this message, the point of conflict surfaced once more.
What did it matter if they changed it or not? The two of them weren’t even in the same space-time; they couldn’t go to any singer’s concert together. Why spend time making Jiang Er change it?
Jiang Yitong felt as if she were split in two—half in reality, half trapped in the play.
But she didn’t choose to retract the message or start over. She decided to follow this plot thread and see how Jiang Er would reply.
Faced with Jiang Yitong’s rejection, Jiang Er couldn’t help but let out an “Ah,” a flicker of panic flashing in her eyes.
However, she adjusted her emotions extremely quickly, following Jiang Yitong’s reply: “Alright then, let’s delete that from the plan. Let’s go do something else together. Hmm…how about…challenging ourselves—how does bungee jumping sound?”
Just as Jiang Yitong was about to reply, “I have no interest,” a knock sounded on the door of the lounge.
The anticipation that had once again filled Jiang Er’s eyes was clear to her, but she didn’t reply. Their conversation was interrupted again, left hanging.
Before exiting the game, she couldn’t tell if it was just her imagination, but Jiang Yitong seemed to see a trace of faint disappointment in Jiang Er’s eyes.
It was as if she could sense Jiang Yitong’s departure from within the screen; she was reluctant to let go, yet she could only watch helplessly as Jiang Yitong left.
Jiang Wanyou…
After exiting the game, this name was silently recited in Jiang Yitong’s heart. Driven by a strange impulse, she opened her browser, typed it in, and clicked search.
She heard the sound of someone opening the door and entering. She glanced up slightly to see that the visitor was Fang Qing, then lowered her head again.
Coincidentally, the browser finished loading, and the page displayed Jiang Wanyou’s profile.
Jiang Yitong had only read the beginning when she heard a voice in the previously quiet lounge.
“Teacher Jiang,” Fang Qing said. “It’s Xia Yang’s birthday today. She’s invited us to go singing after we wrap up filming tonight. Would you like to come along?”
Jiang Yitong looked up at Fang Qing once more.
Fang Qing felt nervous, quietly waiting for her to speak.
She knew there was a high probability of being rejected by Jiang Yitong, but since the star of the night was Xia Yang, the hope of Jiang Yitong agreeing was raised by a few degrees. Everyone knew that Jiang Yitong never liked participating in these spontaneous, crew-organized activities.
But this time, although she could have refused immediately, she didn’t rush to speak.
In the drama, Xia Yang played the little maid who was always following the female lead. She was young and cute, but she was a genuine national martial arts champion, and she had helped Jiang Yitong quite a bit with action scenes during filming.
If Jiang Yitong remembered correctly, Xia Yang was only seventeen when they started filming, which meant today was her eighteenth birthday.
Since that was the case, she didn’t intend to refuse. After a few seconds of silence, she agreed. “Alright. Where is Xia Yang?”
“She’s shy, she was embarrassed to invite you in person,” Fang Qing explained.
Having obtained the answer she wanted from Jiang Yitong, she forcibly suppressed the ecstasy in her heart, though her mind had already involuntarily started imagining the scene of them as actors in a KTV private room tonight.
Among the actors, Xia Yang had indeed asked for help because she was easily shy in front of Jiang Yitong, others didn’t come because they deliberately wanted to keep their distance from her. Only she herself was the one most impatient to stick close to Jiang Yitong.
When she heard Xia Yang mention needing help to invite Jiang Yitong, Fang Qing was the first to stand up and actively fight for the opportunity. She was the only one who did; there were no other candidates.
Seeing that Jiang Yitong had lowered her head again, Fang Qing tilted her head, her gaze moving from the star’s smooth, full forehead downward, trying to explore the face that was being hidden from her view.
Unsuccessful, she had to stand straight again and say softly, “Then I’ll be heading out. Teacher Jiang, continue your rest.”
“Mhm.” A very light, faint sound. Jiang Yitong didn’t even raise her head, her attention focused entirely on her phone interface.
Fang Qing’s heart itched; she was curious and wanted to peek at the screen, but unfortunately, they weren’t close enough, and her view was blurry.
But since the words were already out, she had no choice but to turn and leave. When she closed the door, she gave one last, unwilling glance at the person who was still lowering her head without the slightest movement.
Having roughly finished reading Jiang Wanyou’s profile, Jiang Yitong finally put down her phone.
This biographical information wasn’t actually interesting to read, but she had ended up flipping through it to the end anyway.
She picked up the already crumpled script from the coffee table, flipped to the scene that was about to be filmed, and prepared to read through the content she already knew by heart a few more times.
As her gaze slid over the first line, she paused abruptly. She grabbed her phone again, found Feng Man in her WeChat list, and sent a message.
Only after doing all this did she feel at ease enough to continue studying the script.
