The Movie Queen's Silly CEO - Chapter 29
Feng Xi had only agreed to give a relationship with Mu Qing a try she hadn’t thought about anything far into the future. If they were really going to get married, she believed they’d need to date for at least a year.
After Feng Xi expressed her thoughts, Mu Qing was a little disappointed but respected her decision. Dating was fine after all, they’d end up getting married eventually.
“Alright then, let’s go pick out a ring that represents our girlfriend relationship.” Marriage could wait, but a ring was still necessary.
“A ring to represent being girlfriends?” Feng Xi blinked. Weren’t rings usually for engagement or marriage?
“Yep,” Mu Qing nodded. Since they’d confirmed their relationship, a token of love was essential.
“Mu Qing, maybe I wasn’t clear. I don’t plan to make our relationship public just yet,” Feng Xi sighed and clarified, “I want to try being with you, but I’ll only announce it publicly once things are stable.”
Feng Xi knew this was a bit selfish, but she was a celebrity. If she revealed her relationship with Mu Qing, she’d lose a lot of resources. She wanted to make sure they were compatible before going public.
“Make it public?” Mu Qing raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean by that?”
“Just what it sounds like,” Feng Xi tilted her head. She meant posting on social media or telling reporters during interviews.
“I never asked you to make it public,” Mu Qing chuckled. “I know celebrities can’t casually reveal relationships. I just wanted to buy you a ring.”
“Oh… so it wasn’t what I thought?” Feng Xi felt a little embarrassed. Had she misunderstood? But Mu Qing had mentioned marriage, so she’d naturally overthought it.
Mu Qing recalled Chen Ning’s constant advice about respecting your partner and not interfering with their career. Since Chen Ning had experience, her words were probably reliable.
“I just wanted to commemorate today the day we confirmed our relationship,” Mu Qing said. “You can wear the ring when it’s convenient, and keep it safe when it’s not.”
Hearing Mu Qing’s explanation, Feng Xi felt a bit sheepish. She had definitely overthought it.
“Alright, let’s pick out rings,” Feng Xi said. “But this time, I’m paying.”
“Why?” Mu Qing asked. “Don’t you like me buying things for you?”
Feng Xi shook her head. “It’s not that I just want to buy something for you too.”
“Okay.” Mu Qing wouldn’t refuse a gift from Feng Xi it was proof of her affection.
As they left the café, Feng Xi took the initiative to link arms with Mu Qing and led her toward the jewelry store.
Seeing Feng Xi take the lead, Chen Ning smiled brightly. Things were looking good her salary was probably going to increase again.
As Mu Qing’s thoughtful assistant, Chen Ning didn’t follow them into the store but kept a respectful distance.
While the couple browsed rings, Chen Ning couldn’t help but message her own partner to share the news: her boss was finally in a relationship.
About five minutes later, she received a voice reply. She put on her Bluetooth headset.
“That makes me feel better. After National Day, I can take a few days off. Let me know if there’s anywhere you want to go.” The background noise suggested the speaker was in a crowded place.
Chen Ning thought about it Mu Qing had cleared her entire National Day schedule to pursue Feng Xi. She’d probably have to work overtime afterward, and as her assistant, Chen Ning wouldn’t have much free time either.
She regretfully told her partner she’d likely be working after the holiday.
Less than a minute later, a voice call came in. Chen Ning looked around the jewelry store to make sure Mu Qing and Feng Xi weren’t leaving, then answered.
“Hey, babe,” she said softly.
“It’s me. Have you been busy lately?” Her partner’s voice sounded more tired than before.
Chen Ning frowned. “What time did you sleep last night?”
There was a pause. “Midnight.”
“What time is it there now?” Chen Ning checked her watch she’d adjusted it to New York time.
It was 4 a.m. in New York, which meant it was 5 a.m. back home.
There was a longer silence on the other end. “There were a lot of events today…”
“You pulled an all-nighter?” Chen Ning’s tone grew serious. “You replied to my message in five minutes. Are you still at the office?”
“Yeah… I did nap in the break room,” her partner admitted, sounding a bit guilty.
“You used to lecture me about working late, saying I’d regret it when I got older. Now that I’m not around, you’re pulling all-nighters? That’s hypocritical, Luo Chu.”
“Okay, it’s my fault. I’ll catch up on sleep after these few busy days,” Luo Chu said, massaging her temples. She should’ve waited until 8 or 9 a.m. to reply like before.
“Forget going out during your break I just want you to rest at home,” Chen Ning said quickly. “I’ve listened to you so many times. This time, you listen to me. Put work aside. Now! Immediately! I want a selfie of you at home in an hour!”
“And take a cab driving now would be dangerous!” she added.
“At 5 a.m.? There aren’t any cabs,” Luo Chu smiled, watching her coworkers hammer away at their keyboards. “I’ll go home after I finish up, okay?”
“Fine,” Chen Ning relented. “But you have to video call me later.”
“Deal,” Luo Chu’s voice softened. “You go back to work. I’ll message you soon.”
After the call ended, Mu Qing and Feng Xi had finished picking out their rings.
Mu Qing held Feng Xi’s left wrist and compared their hands. Their palms were about the same size, though Mu Qing’s fingers were slightly longer.
“What are you doing?” Feng Xi asked, a little flustered. Every time she saw Mu Qing’s fingers, her mind wandered to less-than-pure thoughts.
“Your hand’s about the same size as mine, so our ring sizes should match,” Mu Qing said simply.
She took out the ring and gently slid it onto Feng Xi’s ring finger. “Can you wear it until we go back?”
Feng Xi paused, then nodded softly. In this relationship, she should’ve been the one with less power so why did Mu Qing seem more vulnerable?
Mu Qing admired the ring on Feng Xi’s hand, then kissed her finger before instinctively reaching for her card.
“Wait, let me put yours on too,” Feng Xi snapped out of her thoughts, picked up the other ring, and carefully placed it on Mu Qing’s finger.
“Mu Qing, you’re serious about me, right? This isn’t just a whim?” Feng Xi looked up into Mu Qing’s smiling eyes.
“Yes,” Mu Qing stroked her hair and kissed her cheek. “I’m really happy you agreed to be with me.”
While Mu Qing was still basking in joy, Feng Xi quickly paid for the rings.
“Wait, let me take a photo,” Mu Qing said, pulling Feng Xi’s hand toward hers. Their matching hands and rings made for a perfect shot Mu Qing took several photos.
Feng Xi looked nervous. “Are you going to post it?”
“Not yet. I’ll wait until you’re ready. For now, it’s just a keepsake,” Mu Qing said, satisfied as she put away her phone.
Feng Xi had agreed to be with her she wasn’t single anymore. Time to adjust her work schedule and make more time for love. That photo would be her new wallpaper, a constant reminder:
I’m in a relationship! Feng Xi is my girlfriend! We’re going to get married!
Mu Qing was so happy, she gave Chen Ning a bonus.
“Chen Ning, aren’t you going to buy something for your girlfriend?” Mu Qing asked.
“She told me not to buy anything,” Chen Ning scratched her nose. The bags here cost tens of thousands if she bought one, Luo Chu might lock her out for a month.
Better to save for a house!
“That won’t do. You have to buy a gift. You’re abroad how can you not get something for your partner?” Mu Qing said, now full of confidence. “Here, pick a bag. Consider it a welcome gift from us.”
“Huh?” Chen Ning didn’t follow.
“I’ve got good news,” Mu Qing grinned. “Feng Xi and I are together.”
Chen Ning blinked. Wasn’t that obvious?
“Congratulations! You and Miss Feng will definitely go the distance,” Chen Ning smiled.
“Of course. Go pick a gift,” Mu Qing said, holding Feng Xi’s hand tighter. “Feng Xi, do you mind if Su Xiu and the others know about us?”
Feng Xi thought for a moment. “They’re trustworthy.”
“Chen Ning, get four more bags. Gifts for them too,” Mu Qing added.
Chen Ning understood her boss was just too happy and wanted an excuse to show off her new relationship.
“Got it! I’m on it!” Free gifts? That’s like getting months of salary for free!
Feng Xi looked at Mu Qing helplessly. To her, money was just a string of numbers—no matter how much she spent, it never ran out.
“Feng Xi, want to buy anything else?” Mu Qing asked, her joy written all over her face.
