The Movie Queen's Silly CEO - Chapter 28
The price of the coin purse wasn’t exactly unacceptable to Feng Xi, but after her previous shopping experience, she couldn’t help but feel it was overpriced. Especially since it looked almost identical to one she’d seen before at nearly ten times the price. Feng Xi still felt the previous one was a better deal.
“Do you like it?” Mu Qing asked. She had made a point to remember the style of that coin purse.
“It’s okay,” Feng Xi replied, putting the purse down. “But I already bought one, so I don’t need another.”
Setting aside the fact that the mission item would eventually be gifted to the guests, coin purses were practically optional in this day and age. A single phone could replace most of their functions.
That meant she did like it. Mu Qing picked up the purse Feng Xi had just put down. “There are other types of bags here. See if there’s one you like.”
Looking at the dazzling array of products on the shelves, Feng Xi couldn’t bring herself to lie. There were so many beautiful bags it was impossible not to like them. In fact, she liked too many, and it was hard to choose.
“This one’s nice,” Feng Xi said, snapping out of her daze and deciding to act fast. Based on her understanding of Mu Qing, if she said she couldn’t choose, Mu Qing might go crazy and buy every bag in the store.
Don’t ask why just know she has money.
“This row, that row, and that one too wrap them all up,” Mu Qing told the sales assistant.
“Mu Qing, I don’t need that many bags,” Feng Xi quickly tried to stop her. “One or two is enough.”
Mu Qing looked at Feng Xi in surprise. “One or two isn’t enough. Different outfits need different bags. Chen Ning told me that as a celebrity, your clothes shouldn’t be repeated. So it’s good to have more bags on hand.”
Without waiting for Feng Xi’s response, Mu Qing grabbed her hand and led her to another section. “One of each color for this style, and that one too.”
“Feng Xi, you know I don’t mind spending a little money on you,” Mu Qing said, cutting off Feng Xi before she could speak. “This is something I want to give you.”
“…” What could Feng Xi say? Trying to stop Mu Qing from giving her gifts didn’t seem very reliable.
“As long as you’re happy,” Feng Xi finally managed to say.
Watching this scene unfold, Chen Ning suddenly felt like she was watching her daughter grow up. Her boss was finally becoming sensible. Of course, it would’ve been better if Mu Qing hadn’t mentioned “Chen Ning told me.”
Mu Qing’s shopping spree wasn’t too excessive she stopped after buying thirty or forty bags. She picked one she liked for Feng Xi to carry, and the rest were packed and shipped to Feng Xi’s residence.
“Is someone at your place to sign for the delivery?” Mu Qing asked. “If it’s inconvenient, they can be sent to my place.”
Feng Xi sighed inwardly. “It’s fine. My assistant will be there to sign.”
“Great. The upper floor sells clothes. Want to take a look?” Mu Qing asked, her brows lifting with joy.
Finally, she’d spent some money. Feng Xi should be able to feel how much she liked her now.
“Hmm, I want to see if anyone else has completed their mission,” Feng Xi replied, sensing that if she went to try on clothes, she’d probably end up with another mountain of packages.
Coincidentally, when Feng Xi opened WeChat, Shao Qiushuang and Su Xiu had just announced they’d completed their mission. They also relayed the director’s message: the rest of the time was for free exploration, and suitable footage would be selected for editing later.
“Back by eight tonight?” Mu Qing asked.
Feng Xi nodded. “Eight is when we hand in the mission items.”
“It’s still early. Let’s walk around,” Mu Qing said, intertwining her fingers with Feng Xi’s.
The warmth in her palm was oddly comforting. Feng Xi turned to look at Mu Qing, her emotions a bit tangled. Had Mu Qing never considered that she might be someone who was after money?
After all, in the eyes of most capitalists, people in the entertainment industry were vain and materialistic. Many spent their lives chasing the dream of marrying into wealth.
Why had Mu Qing chosen her? Was it really because of that night in the hotel?
Watching Mu Qing pick out clothes, Feng Xi suddenly remembered Mu Qing had initially been attracted to her body and beauty, hadn’t she?
So the question was: did Mu Qing’s feelings now still only scratch the surface?
“See anything you like?” Mu Qing asked.
Feng Xi blinked and shook her head gently. “Mu Qing, I want to talk to you.”
After feeling confused, Feng Xi lost interest in shopping. She just wanted to share her thoughts with Mu Qing. Mu Qing’s straightforwardness had influenced her when she felt unsure, she instinctively wanted to ask.
“Just the two of us?” Mu Qing noticed something was off.
“Yes, just us,” Feng Xi nodded.
In the café, Chen Ning tactfully sat near the entrance, quietly worrying about her future prospects.
Mu Qing and Feng Xi chose a more secluded spot. It was a quiet time, so there weren’t many people around.
After ordering coffee, Mu Qing sat upright. “Feng Xi, what do you want to talk about?”
Feng Xi stared at Mu Qing for a while before speaking. “Mu Qing, do you like me?”
“Of course I do,” Mu Qing nodded without hesitation.
“Then what do you like about me?” Feng Xi asked.
Mu Qing thought for a moment. “I like your smile. It’s beautiful.”
Feng Xi was stunned. She hadn’t expected that answer. Liking her smile? Did that mean she liked her as a person, or just her looks?
“What if I…” Feng Xi tried to pose a hypothetical.
“Feng Xi, there aren’t that many ‘what ifs’ in this world,” Mu Qing interrupted. “The past is the past. What’s already happened can’t be changed.”
Feng Xi lowered her head and sighed. “I know there’s no ‘what if,’ but I still wonder if I hadn’t met you that day, what would we be like now?”
Mu Qing tilted her head in confusion. “Didn’t you ask me that before? If it hadn’t been you, I wouldn’t have helped anyone.”
Feng Xi looked up and met Mu Qing’s gaze. “If that night hadn’t happened between us, would you still have fallen for me?”
To Feng Xi, that night had been awful like exposing all her flaws.
Mu Qing took a long time to think. Only when the coffee and desserts arrived did she find her answer.
“If I had met you, I would’ve liked you,” Mu Qing said honestly. “If I hadn’t met you, I’d probably be working overtime or in a meeting right now.”
Feng Xi had left a unique impression on Mu Qing. What attracted her at first was Feng Xi’s scent. Her appearance had hit all of Mu Qing’s aesthetic preferences.
It wasn’t quite love at first sight, but Mu Qing felt she could remember this person or at least her scent forever.
Stirring her coffee absentmindedly, Feng Xi took a while to digest Mu Qing’s words. “So you… like me as a person?”
“Liking you means liking you as a person, doesn’t it?” Mu Qing looked puzzled. “What else could I like?”
“Isn’t there anything else you like about me?” Feng Xi asked.
Mu Qing looked even more confused, then asked cautiously, “Feng Xi, do you want the truth? It might hurt.”
“I want to hear it,” Feng Xi nodded, nervously gripping her cup.
“Besides you as a person, your assets, connections, or achievements don’t attract me,” Mu Qing said honestly. “I’m far better than you in those areas.”
“…” Feng Xi was speechless. Should she be happy that Mu Qing liked her for who she was, or angry that Mu Qing said she was inferior?
“I think I’m better at social interactions,” Feng Xi tried to salvage her pride. “My emotional intelligence is higher.”
Mu Qing wanted to argue, but remembered something Chen Ning had said and swallowed her words. “You’re right.”
Though money could often compensate for a lack of emotional intelligence, the reverse wasn’t true.
“Mu Qing, ask me again,” Feng Xi said, finally ready.
“Hm?” Mu Qing didn’t understand. Ask what again?
Seeing Mu Qing’s confused expression, Feng Xi couldn’t help but facepalm.
Forget it she already knew what kind of person Mu Qing was. Some things were better not expected from her.
“I mean, I’m saying yes,” Feng Xi clarified.
Mu Qing’s eyes lit up instantly. If she didn’t get it now, she really was a fool. “Feng Xi, you’re willing to be my girlfriend?”
“Mm.” Feng Xi nodded slightly.
“That’s great! We still have time. Let’s go pick out rings,” Mu Qing said, smiling even more. “There’s a famous jewelry store nearby. If you don’t like their designs, I can have a designer create a custom one just for us.”
Feng Xi: ???
“I only agreed to date you,” Feng Xi emphasized. How did this turn into a ring?
“Don’t worry, I’m not a player,” Mu Qing said, unfazed. After all, many people online said that dating without the intention of marriage was just playing around and she wasn’t that kind of person.
“We’re both around twenty-seven. If we
