The Movie Queen's Silly CEO - Chapter 26
So, was she talking too little? Mu Qing touched her chin and nodded slightly, indicating she understood. This shouldn’t be hard to fix just talk a bit more during meals.
The previous few questions were pretty harmless. Except for Su Xiu having a secret crush, there wasn’t much excitement.
The next few rounds of Truth or Dare had mixed results. By the tenth round, Chen Ning, who had mostly been a background character, ended up with the lowest score.
The highest score belonged to Xu Leran. Since Chen Ning wasn’t part of the entertainment circle, she asked her question without much reservation: “Assistant Chen, are you single?”
Chen Ning glanced at Xu Leran and proudly straightened her back. “I’m not single. I’ve been in a relationship for half a year.”
Among the seven of them, she was the only one in a relationship. It was a bit embarrassing to admit!
“Well, congratulations,” Xu Leran said with a smile.
In the eleventh round, Mu Qing won and Su Xiu lost.
After some thought, Mu Qing asked, “Su Xiu, how much savings do you have?”
“Huh?” Su Xiu was stunned, clearly not expecting that question. “I’m not exactly sure, but most of the money I’ve earned from filming and events over the years has been saved. It should be a decent amount.”
“Do you have a hundred million?” Mu Qing asked.
“…” Su Xiu choked. “No…”
Mu Qing nodded. No hundred million in savings Su Xiu wasn’t much of a threat.
The tables turned in the next round, with Su Xiu winning and Mu Qing losing.
“May I ask about your daily workload, President Mu?” Su Xiu wasn’t foolish she avoided asking about Mu Qing’s net worth to prevent jealousy.
“I usually start work at nine and finish at five, with a two-hour lunch break,” Mu Qing replied, not finding the question sensitive at all.
Su Xiu smiled and subtly implied, “Managing such a large company must mean frequent overtime. That probably leaves little time for those close to you.”
“Why do you think that?” Mu Qing raised an eyebrow.
“Aren’t you busy?” Su Xiu countered. “I’ve heard that CEOs are basically on call year-round.”
“Everyone has to work. As long as you manage your schedule well, there’s no issue with spending time with loved ones,” Mu Qing replied wisely, except when it came to Feng Xi.
“A company that big won’t collapse without one person. Otherwise, I wouldn’t need to hire so many people,” Mu Qing concluded.
“…” Su Xiu lost again.
As time passed, the game came to an end, and everyone began packing up to head home.
At a familiar time and place, Mu Qing once again stood in Feng Xi’s room, seemingly repeating the events of the previous night.
“What’s wrong?” Feng Xi instinctively clutched her shirt upon seeing Mu Qing’s gaze. If she guessed correctly, Mu Qing was about to say something blunt that would make her blush.
Mu Qing remembered Chen Ning’s advice: asking for a kiss directly wasn’t appropriate—it should be hinted at through actions.
She stepped forward, placed her hand on Feng Xi’s shoulder, and looked into her eyes, trying to see if her reflection was visible in Feng Xi’s pupils.
Feng Xi’s heartbeat quickened. Mu Qing’s intense gaze made her uneasy, so she spoke to break the awkward silence. “Um, it’s getting late.”
“Yes, it’s getting late,” Mu Qing echoed, implying it was time to do what needed to be done. She gently cradled the back of Feng Xi’s head and leaned in.
What was Mu Qing doing? Feng Xi’s mind exploded with exclamation marks!!!
Logic told Feng Xi she should dodge, push Mu Qing away, and give her a disappointed look—maybe even a slap, with tears in her eyes…
Wait! What was she thinking? That’s just a drama script she’d seen before!
Her mind went blank until she felt the warm touch on her lips—Mu Qing had kissed her!
“Good night, my… Feng Xi.” At the last moment, Mu Qing swapped out the overly affectionate “baby” since Feng Xi hadn’t agreed to be pursued yet. Calling her “baby” would be too forward.
“G-Good night…” Feng Xi replied instinctively. After Mu Qing gently closed the door and left, she finally snapped out of it.
Touching her lips, Feng Xi suddenly realized something. Mu Qing kissed her, and she didn’t resist. Would Mu Qing think she’d accepted her pursuit?
No, Mu Qing was a serious person. She probably saw the kiss as a simple goodnight gesture, nothing more.
Feng Xi was absolutely right she nailed Mu Qing’s thoughts perfectly.
“Chen Ning.” Mu Qing returned to her residence, completely unfazed by the successful goodnight kiss.
“Yes, President Mu?” Chen Ning quickly removed her earbud, ready for instructions.
“Your base salary will increase by five percent,” Mu Qing said with a faint smile. “Keep up the good work.”
What had she done to deserve a raise? Why did President Mu suddenly increase her salary?
“Ah, got it! I’ll keep working hard!” Whatever the reason, it didn’t matter what mattered was the raise.
Watching Mu Qing head upstairs, Chen Ning couldn’t help but jump with joy and squeal quietly, “Babe, did you hear that? My boss gave me another raise! If we save up, we can get married abroad next year and have our wedding!”
“You’re getting ahead of yourself. We might have the wedding money, but what about the house?” The voice on the other end was calm and rational. “We can plan for the certificate abroad next year, but the wedding should wait until we buy a house. That’ll make married life more stable.”
“Fair enough. I’ll bring you home no matter what!” Chen Ning laughed. “At this rate, buying a house won’t be a problem!”
“Then let’s aim for a big villa so we can adopt a cat.”
“Haha, sounds good! I’m getting carried away, babe…”
…
The next morning, Feng Xi and the others were rudely awakened by alarms and dragged their suitcases to the airport, half-asleep.
Chen Ning’s hefty salary wasn’t for nothing despite the last-minute itinerary change, she still managed to book first-class seats. Mu Qing and Feng Xi were seated across the aisle from each other, close enough to chat with a simple turn of the head.
But the flight was too early, and Feng Xi had barely slept thanks to Mu Qing’s goodnight kiss. She only had time to greet Mu Qing before dozing off.
By the time Feng Xi was woken up, the plane was already descending toward their third destination.
New York is undeniably a global city. On the streets, you see all kinds of people and eccentric performance artists everywhere.
Thanks to the time zone difference, it was still morning when they landed. The streets were filled with well-dressed professionals heading to work, alongside relaxed tourists chatting in their native languages.
Because it was National Day, familiar accents could be heard at the airport and on the streets.
“This trip is four days and three nights, and the main goal is to eat, drink, and have fun,” the executive director announced. “We hope you enjoy the foreign scenery.”
Sounds too good to be true. Shao Qiushuang was the first to question it. “Director, I have a question. What about expenses for food and lodging?”
“The show will cover accommodations,” the director said, pausing with a bright smile. “But considering the cost of living here and our budget, each person will get $100 per day.”
A hundred dollars? That’s quite a bit. Before Shao Qiushuang could calculate, the director added:
“Of course, this money isn’t just for personal expenses it’s also for the show’s procurement tasks,” he said with a grin. “Every morning at 8 a.m., we’ll assign items to be purchased. The five guests must complete the task by 8 p.m.”
“What if we fail?” Feng Xi asked. She knew variety shows needed drama this was definitely a trap.
The director adjusted his expression to look less gleeful. “Then you’ll have to camp outdoors.”
Camp? She’d never camped in her life!
“With five people, that’s $500 a day. Enough to find a hotel that covers food and lodging,” Le Xiaoxiao, who had studied abroad, noted. “That way, we can skip the procurement tasks and avoid sleeping rough…”
“No way!” the director quickly interrupted. If anyone else had said that, he might’ve thought it was a joke. But Le Xiaoxiao had connections if she really did that, he’d be powerless.
“This is a show you can’t exploit loopholes!”
“Then you should phrase things more carefully. I suggest using rewards instead of punishments,” Le Xiaoxiao said, leaning against the wall and lifting her injured foot to show she was in recovery.
“…” Great, she’s learned to be difficult.
“If you complete the task one day, the next day’s budget doubles. Plus, you get to keep the items you bought,” the director reluctantly conceded.
