The Movie Queen's Silly CEO - Chapter 10
Just as He Yan-hui was surprised, even Feng Xi herself didn’t expect Mu Qing to come looking for her here.
“President Mu? What brings you here?” Feng Xi quickly went up to her and, before too many people noticed Mu Qing, pulled her into a more secluded corner to avoid being caught by the paparazzi lurking nearby.
Mu Qing let Feng Xi pull her along. Once they were settled, she handed Feng Xi the bouquet of roses she was holding. “I watched your livestream, you did great. This is for you.”
“Th-thank you.” Feng Xi accepted the champagne roses from Mu Qing. There were eleven of them. She thought for a moment and then asked, “Are you in Hai City to sign a contract, President Mu?”
Ling City and Hai City were almost a whole country apart. Mu Qing couldn’t have possibly come all this way just to deliver a bouquet of flowers.
Mu Qing smiled. “Of course not. I came to see you.”
Feng Xi was stunned. Such a direct statement made her a little uncomfortable, but her heart also trembled slightly. So she wasn’t just a convenient stop. The feeling of being valued was truly wonderful.
“President Mu, I’ll be heading back as soon as I’m done filming. You don’t have to travel so far for me next time.” Despite being moved, Feng Xi’s rationality was still intact. “There are too many paparazzi here. If they take a picture, there’s no telling what they’ll say.”
“I know,” Mu Qing tilted her head. “They’ll probably just say that you, Feng Xi, are being ‘kept’ by someone. Those comments don’t affect me. If it really gets out, I’ll clarify the situation.”
“But…” Feng Xi was speechless. Did President Mu not understand what she was trying to say? She wanted to avoid that situation entirely!
“I see, you’re worried that the reports will have a bad impact on you,” Mu Qing thought her understanding was quite good. “Don’t worry, if any rumors related to me cause you losses in the future, I’ll compensate you tenfold. If necessary, I can become your exclusive investor.”
“President Mu…” Feng Xi’s voice carried a hint of helplessness. “That’s not what I mean. I just think we’re not a good fit.”
Mu Qing raised an eyebrow, a trace of confusion in her expression. “Why aren’t we a good fit? Is it because of gender?”
“Of course not. It’s just that I’m focusing on my career in the entertainment industry and don’t have any plans to date right now.” Feng Xi felt she was starting to understand Mu Qing’s way of thinking. You couldn’t be subtle or reserved when talking to someone like her; you had to be as direct as possible.
Mu Qing furrowed her brow, trying hard to understand Feng Xi’s meaning. “Okay, I get it.”
Feng Xi felt a sense of relief, but also a slight pang of disappointment. “Then I won’t see you off, President Mu.”
“Mhm. Next time, I’ll come as a friend,” Mu Qing nodded, then took out her business card. “This is my private contact information. You can call me if you ever need anything.”
What did that mean? Had Mu Qing not come as a friend this time? “President Mu, we…”
“We’re friends, right?” Mu Qing countered. “You said so yourself during dinner last time.”
“…” Feng Xi slowly nodded. “Yes, we’re friends.”
“Then, as a friend now, can I take you out for a meal?” Mu Qing continued to ask.
Feng Xi’s tone softened. “Sorry, the other guests and I might have dinner together later, and we’ll probably head back after…”
“I understand.” Mu Qing gave an “okay” hand gesture. She wasn’t one to be unreasonable. Since Feng Xi was busy, she didn’t press the matter.
After watching Mu Qing turn and leave decisively, Feng Xi looked at the champagne roses in her hands, a little exasperated.
This Mu Qing, what was she supposed to say? She came and went so quickly. If it weren’t for the flowers, she would have thought Mu Qing had never been there at all.
Glancing at the roses in Feng Xi’s hand, He Yan-hui felt a twinge of jealousy. Feng Xi had definitely been lying to her before. “Just friends”? She would never believe that again!
“Teacher Feng, where’s President Mu? Did she come all this way just to bring you flowers?” He Yan-hui asked, her voice sounding a little strange.
“President Mu has already left.” Feng Xi’s expression changed to a polite smile. “President Mu happened to be here on a business trip these past few days and came to see me after hearing I finished filming.”
“Is that so?” He Yan-hui chuckled. “I thought President Mu and you were especially close, for her to travel all the way from Ling City just to bring you flowers or something.”
“It seems like Teacher He is overthinking things,” Feng Xi said with a knowing smile. “Perhaps you’re still in character from filming. Now that filming is over, Teacher He doesn’t need to play the role of ‘being against me’ anymore.”
Hearing Feng Xi’s words, He Yan-hui’s face stiffened. Was Feng Xi indirectly calling her out?
Before He Yan-hui could react, she saw the other guests walking towards them and had to swallow her pride for the time being.
Back at her apartment, Feng Xi collapsed onto her bed, let out a little sigh, and rolled around a couple of times.
Looking at the business card in her hand, Feng Xi bit her lip, starting to feel conflicted. How should she treat Mu Qing?
For someone like Mu Qing, being interested in her was probably just a fleeting whim. She would probably forget about her in a few months.
Feng Xi! You can’t let your imagination run wild. Don’t think about things that don’t belong to you! Mu Qing isn’t right for you, you’re not on the same path!
After rolling around on the bed several times, Feng Xi still couldn’t bring herself to throw the business card away.
But what if? What if everything Mu Qing said was true? After all, Mu Qing lacked nothing and probably wouldn’t bother to deceive a small-time celebrity like her.
Ahhh, what should I do? Why did Mu Qing have to mess with me?!
It was fine to just send flowers, but why did she have to say she came all this way specifically for her? And even though she had rejected her and said she didn’t want to date, why was she still talking about being friends?!
This Mu Qing is so infuriating!!!
In the end, Feng Xi, still conflicted, placed the business card in the very back of her drawer. Of course, she had already saved the number before putting it away.
But what did that matter? She definitely didn’t save the number to contact Mu Qing. It was to avoid any misunderstandings! Like, what if Mu Qing called and she didn’t know it was her!
After filming was completed, Feng Xi stayed home and continued to study her scripts. Liu Zhi would occasionally send her revised parts of the script. Coupled with exercising indoors, Feng Xi’s days were quite fulfilling.
The episode of “Who Is Lying” that Feng Xi was in received an excellent response online. Especially after it was edited and broadcasted, Feng Xi’s exposure skyrocketed. Some netizens even found old movies Feng Xi and Fang Si-cheng had filmed together, surprisingly creating a fandom for their on-screen pairing.
Given this great start, Feng Xi was once again swamped with scripts. This time, most of them were for variety shows: dating simulations, survival shows, business management simulations, “I’m a Great Chef,” and all sorts of other formats.
“Feng Xi, I have some good news. The people upstairs are taking you seriously again,” Sun Yan said, arriving with a large stack of scripts. “Recently, Hongchen is launching its own reality show and wants you to be a permanent cast member for the first season.”
“A company variety show?” Feng Xi put down the script on her phone. If it was arranged by the company, it seemed she didn’t have much right to refuse.
“Don’t worry, this show has a huge investment. It’s basically you traveling abroad, eating and drinking, and completing a few challenge missions at famous foreign landmarks,” Sun Yan sat down and handed over the corresponding briefing documents.
“Since it’s the first season, the content is still a bit sparse. The filming will be no more than a month, and it will be edited into eight episodes,” Sun Yan began to explain. “We have five cast members tentatively. Three are our own people from Hongchen, and the other two are from Le Huang.”
“So you want me to mentor newcomers?” Feng Xi casually flipped through a few pages. The conditions seemed very generous, but in reality, it was a way for newcomers to gain some exposure and for her to mentor two promising junior artists.
Sun Yan didn’t deny this. “There are benefits to this. You’ll be the most senior one there, so no one will be able to cause trouble for you. The first batch of cast members are all female celebrities, so you also don’t have to worry about any scandals.”
Feng Xi smiled. “Alright, I trust your judgment, Sister Yan.”
In terms of age, Feng Xi was only twenty-seven, still considered part of the younger generation in the entertainment industry. If she was considered a senior, it meant that everyone else was a newcomer, possibly even someone who had just debuted and couldn’t even be called a third-tier artist.
Feng Xi’s company was Hongchen Entertainment. As one of the giants in the entertainment industry, Hongchen was known for treating its artists well and generally didn’t force them to attend special dinners.
Of course, Hongchen Entertainment would only ensure its own executives didn’t pressure the artists. If other investors pressured an artist, Hongchen wouldn’t specifically help the artist avoid it. In short, the amount of protection the company provided was proportional to the artist’s value.
Feng Xi had no complaints about the company. At least within the industry, Hongchen was known for being conscientious, almost on par with Le Huang Entertainment.
After Sun Yan left, Feng Xi began to carefully read the script, especially the list of potential guest stars. She searched each of them on Weibo, diligently Browse their profiles and works.
When she saw the name Su Xiu, Feng Xi was a little surprised and quickly looked up her detailed information.
Su Xiu, twenty-five years old, graduated from the Central Academy of Drama, signed with Le Huang Entertainment. She’s from the same school as me, so I guess I’m her senior.
Feng Xi had a good impression of this junior who had once helped her out. Especially after seeing Su Xiu’s past film and television work, she even saw a reflection of herself in her.
