The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 9
Chapter 9
Back in the hollow villa, a middle-aged man resembling a butler led two maids to help Lin Mo back to her room. Xue Luhe went straight to the study without uttering another word.
Lin Mo was more than happy to avoid her. She spent the day happily playing, eating snacks, and enjoying fruit. Occasionally, she rang the bell for a maid to bring her desserts. It must be said that Xue Luhe was indeed top-tier wealthy; even though she didn’t like seeing staff around, the servants managed to fulfill Lin Mo’s every need with precision, a smile, and perfect timing.
The day passed peacefully. Lin Mo ate dinner alone, played for a while, and went to bed.
At 1:00 AM, a faint sound came from the bedroom door, which was slowly pushed open. A tall, dark figure entered and stood by the bed.
The room was dark and silent, save for a sliver of cold moonlight filtering through a gap in the curtains. Lin Mo lay sprawled across the large bed, breathing evenly. A patch of moonlight happened to fall across her waist like a shimmering ripple of water.
The figure stared down at Lin Mo’s face, then took a step forward into the moonlight. High bridge of the nose, a smooth, elegant forehead, and eyes like a falcon or a frosted blade—it was the superstar, Xue Luhe.
Her gaze was fixed on Lin Mo’s face with extreme intensity, like a hunter’s rifle barrel aimed dead-center at its prey. No one knew what the hunter was thinking. Under the moonlight, in the darkness, the ultimate hunter observed the prey she held in the palm of her hand.
It was a bizarre, almost manic scene.
Xue Luhe watched for a long while, then reached out to touch the ankle that had been bandaged at the hospital. Lin Mo mumbled uncomfortably, rolled over to hug her pillow, and buried her head deeper, sleeping soundly.
Xue Luhe watched her a moment longer, said nothing, did nothing, and then turned to leave, closing the door softly.
As the footsteps faded away, Lin Mo’s eyes snapped open!
She clutched her heart, feeling like it was about to explode. Her nightgown was soaked with cold sweat. She had woken up the moment Xue Luhe opened the door, but she hadn’t dared move, pretending to be asleep the whole time!
In the middle of the night, being stared at by a beautiful woman in black… Have I transmigrated into a horror novel?!
Holy crap! Just how perverted is Xue Luhe? Why come in at 1:00 AM to watch me sleep? Is she weighing me like a piece of meat to see how much she can sell me for?! The look in those eyes had made Lin Mo tremble so much her back was still cold.
She hugged her pillow tight, then grabbed a pile of plushies for good measure. Surrounded by soft things, her panic finally began to subside. But from that night on, she vowed to lock her door. She never wanted to wake up and see a horror movie protagonist standing by her bed again.
An Unexpected Visitor
The next morning, breakfast was already on the table. Lin Mo freshened up, ate, and sat in a daze, replaying the previous night’s events. She had no idea what face to show Xue Luhe today.
However, she didn’t see Xue Luhe all day. After waiting a long time for someone to come, she tried the door, only to find it was locked from the outside. Left with no choice, she watched from the window.
Aside from a few cleaners watering the garden, she saw nothing. The driveway was empty, making her feel utterly isolated. Lin Mo eventually opened the window and called out to the gardeners.
“Hello! Can you tell me if Xue Luhe is home today?”
The gardeners looked up at her with confused, almost fearful expressions. They didn’t answer; instead, they quickly packed their tools and fled the garden. In the blink of an eye, the garden was deserted. Lin Mo swallowed and closed the window despondently.
Am I that scary? She knew this was likely Xue Luhe’s orders, but she still felt a sting of rejection.
Just as she was about to turn away from the window, a luxury car pulled into the driveway and stopped at the front door. Someone got out and opened the back door.
An unexpected woman stepped out. She had a slender, graceful figure, long straight hair, and an elegant profile. From her angle, Lin Mo couldn’t see her full face until the woman glanced around, briefly exposing her features.
It was the rising star, Mu Fei! The original protagonist of the book, the “Uke” beloved by the world—Mu Fei!
She was also the “white moonlight” that Xue Luhe had been pursuing for a long time.
Mu Fei was escorted inside by the butler. Lin Mo watched the window intensely. She tried to recall the original plot: Did Mu Fei ever visit Xue Luhe’s villa?
Details were fuzzy, but she remembered that late in the book, Xue Luhe’s unrequited love turned into madness, leading her to kidnap and imprison Mu Fei. But that happened more than six months after the original Lin Mo’s death.
Why is she here now? Was she invited, or did she come on her own?
Lin Mo was certain of one thing: whatever they were doing, they weren’t sleeping together. The book was tagged “exclusive love” and “double clean,” meaning the leads only ever slept with each other.
She watched the window for about an hour until Mu Fei reappeared. Unlike the original plot where she was supposed to leave in tears, Mu Fei looked thoughtful. She walked slowly with her head down and even nodded her thanks to the driver.
Lin Mo rubbed her chin. She doesn’t look like she was rejected. She looks… surprised. Disbelieving. Did Xue Luhe agree to her request? Why isn’t Xue Luhe following the script? Is it because of the butterfly effect I caused?
The Deal
The door opened, and a tall, slender figure walked in. Lin Mo turned around, her mouth full of food, spicy beef in her left hand and a wafer in her right. She looked a bit silly.
Xue Luhe looked at Lin Mo’s greasy fingers and frowned in disgust. “Go wash up.”
“Oh,” Lin Mo mumbled. She swallowed the beef in one go, her cheeks bulging like a squirrel. She wiped her hands with a tissue, grabbed the edge of a chair, and hopped forward on one foot.
Xue Luhe stood by with her hands folded, making no move to help. Her dark green silk shirt shimmered, making her complexion look even paler and colder.
Lin Mo struggled to move, but her foot slipped. As she began to fall toward a table, her heart raced. This is going to hurt!
Suddenly, she was enveloped in a cold, light fragrance. Soft but strong hands caught her, half-supporting her, while a long leg hooked her own to stop the slide.
Lin Mo looked up to find herself held in Xue Luhe’s arms. Xue Luhe’s leg was pressed against hers in a pose reminiscent of a waltz dip.
Lin Mo’s face turned red. Her ears turned red. Even her neck turned red. She became a “boiled lobster” in seconds.
Xue Luhe whispered in her ear: “What, do you want me to hold you that badly?”
Lin Mo quickly grabbed Xue Luhe’s arm to steady herself and scurried toward the bathroom, not daring to face the other woman. Behind her, she thought she heard a faint, soft chuckle that tickled her ears like a feather.
Lin Mo turned on the tap and washed her hands and face to cool down. Amidst the sound of running water, Xue Luhe suddenly spoke:
“Mu Fei came to see me. She said she wanted to make a deal.”
Lin Mo froze, unsure how to respond. Should she say she knew exactly what they discussed because of the book?
But then Xue Luhe added: “Her bargaining chip… was herself.”
