The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Xue Luhe personally threw away all those terrible cosmetics. Still seemingly unsatisfied, she hired an hourly worker to pull every single outfit out of Lin Mo’s wardrobe, tossing anything she found unpleasing.
Lin Mo knew those clothes were expensive. Even if the designs were bizarre, each piece was from a luxury brand with incredible texture; she was loath to see them go. However, hopping on one foot, she couldn’t stop them. She could only appeal piteously to the middle-aged worker:
“Auntie, these are good clothes, very, very expensive. If you like any, take them home for yourself or sell them. Don’t let them go to waste!”
The woman gave a hearty laugh and patted her shoulder with a blunt, honest expression. “Little girl, I don’t lack anything, and I don’t fancy your strange clothes. No need! Let me tell you, modern people’s views have changed—if clothes don’t fit, you throw them out! Don’t worry about waste!”
Lin Mo was dumbfounded. After the worker left, she specifically asked Xue Luhe:
“Is the salary for an auntie like that very high?”
She seemed so wealthy and confident!
Xue Luhe said casually, “Twenty thousand a month. On call, serving only me.”
Lin Mo couldn’t help but look envious. What a dream job! Noticing her expression, Xue Luhe raised an inquisitive eyebrow.
Lin Mo said: “Um… can I apply for that job? Once my injury is healed…”
Xue Luhe usually remained expressionless, but in these past two days, she had cycled through almost every emotion possible. She said with a mix of amusement and disbelief:
“You? You want to be my hourly worker? What can you do?”
Lin Mo began counting on her fingers: “I can sweep, mop, wipe tables and windows, organize things, tidy clothes, and I can cook.”
Xue Luhe’s gaze was meaningful. “You know quite a bit.”
Lin Mo smiled proudly. “Of course.” These were basic survival skills for any woman living alone in the city.
However, Xue Luhe’s tone immediately shifted: “But the former you was a pampered young lady who knew how to do absolutely nothing. Did you lose your memory, or…?”
Crap! Am I exposed?!
Lin Mo’s legs went weak with fear. She scrambled to patch the hole: “Ah, I just feel like these things don’t look hard. I should be able to do them with a little practice… right…?”
Her voice grew smaller and smaller under Xue Luhe’s scrutinizing gaze until it faded into nothingness. What should she do? If Xue Luhe found out she wasn’t just faking amnesia, but was an entirely different soul in this body, would she be turned over to the government for research?
Lin Mo swallowed hard, not daring to speak. She gave a silly grin, trying to play it off.
Xue Luhe didn’t say anything. She stared into Lin Mo’s eyes and pressed two cold fingers against her temple—a gesture filled with danger. She sighed softly:
“You really are very different from before…”
Lin Mo bowed her head, letting herself be touched obediently. She thought: I don’t care if I’m the same or not, as long as you don’t hit me and we get divorced soon!
Xue Luhe sighed and turned to leave.
The Blackmail Message
Lin Mo spent a happy morning in the room, watching funny videos and shows on her phone, rolling around on the bed laughing, and snacking on the treats Xue Luhe had sent in.
Lunch was delivered soon after—a healthy meal of four dishes and a soup. No Xue Luhe was present, making it the most comfortable meal yet. Mom, I’m not afraid of indigestion anymore!
After eating, Lin Mo was lying satisfied on the bed when her phone suddenly chirped—a sharp, short sound she didn’t recognize. She picked it up to see a text from a stranger:
“Are we still doing the thing we talked about? We’ve been waiting for three days, and your money hasn’t arrived! If you don’t pay up, we’re going to leak everything!”
The warmth of the meal vanished instantly. A chill raced up her spine.
Lin Mo had never experienced this kind of threat. It sounded like… social thugs? Why was the original Lin Mo involved with these people? It seemed she had hired them to cause trouble, but things went sideways.
She decided not to reply and deleted the message. Let them leak it. She was already living on borrowed time in this world anyway. Besides, in this book, it was very difficult for thugs to get into Xue Luhe’s house to cause trouble.
Ironically, while Xue Luhe was terrifying and violent, she was also Lin Mo’s current shield.
Lin Mo realized the “infidelity” photos might have been a setup. The original Lin Mo had been obsessed with the male lead, Xi Shen—why would she suddenly sleep with a stranger after one failed confession? And why did Xue Luhe get the photos so fast? Someone was pulling the strings.
The Mobile Hospital
Lin Mo was snapped out of her thoughts by a voice at the door.
“Orthopedics first. Surgery can wait.”
Xue Luhe’s cello-like voice was calm. Lin Mo looked out and saw a team of people in white coats pushing various medical instruments into the room, quickly setting up a temporary bed!
“Just a check-up,” Xue Luhe said flatly.
Lin Mo was nervous. If they checked her brain, would they find her secret?
First, the orthopedic doctor checked her ankle. His pressing and prodding made Lin Mo howl like a ghost. The result: no bone damage, just soft tissue injury. Then came the surgeon, who prescribed some medicine. One by one, the doctors came and went, and Lin Mo’s tension faded. What’s the worst that can happen? If the doctors find nothing, I’ll just keep insisting I have amnesia. The brain is mysterious!
Finally, the neurologist arrived. After a brief study with some equipment, he looked solemnly at Xue Luhe:
“The patient needs to go to the hospital for more detailed tests, including X-rays and an MRI. There is an issue in her brain.”
Xue Luhe nodded gravely.
Lin Mo felt her world collapse. What kind of luck was this? She had transmigrated only to still be sick? Too miserable!
Xue Luhe immediately arranged for a luxury car to take her to the hospital. Laying in the back of the car, Lin Mo felt cold inside. Even the “Big Pervert” sitting next to her looked a bit better in her time of need.
Lin Mo suddenly asked: “If there really is something wrong with my brain, what will you do? Will you divorce me?”
Xue Luhe looked up and gave a cool smile. “Of course… I will.”
Lin Mo: … Did I mishear a word? How can she say that so matter-of-factly? Shouldn’t she comfort a patient? I hate her!
She puffed out her cheeks and turned away. But Xue Luhe’s cold voice continued near her ear, her fingers brushing a lock of hair: “Because I love you, I would let you go.”
Lin Mo’s heart skipped a beat. She turned back slightly to see a meaningful smile on Xue Luhe’s beautiful face. A sudden confession? That’s actually a bit touching…
Then, Xue Luhe’s lips curved into a grin. “The first half of that sentence… I was lying.”
Lin Mo: …
“The second half too. I won’t let you go. Even if you die, you’ll be buried in my family’s ancestral grave.”
Lin Mo: ……………………
