The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 56
Chapter 56
The act of raising a cat together had been elevated to a formal ritual by the two of them.
Xue Luhe invited a renowned veterinarian to consult, and whenever Lin Mo wasn’t home, a professional nurse came to care for Xia Xue, preparing custom meals to ensure a full recovery. After Lin Mo returned from work, Xue Luhe would come up to help, the two of them acting like a pair of busy, doting mothers.
As time passed, Xia Xue’s feline distemper miraculously cleared up. Other minor ailments vanished, and the kitten entered a growth spurt. Its body and limbs grew sturdy, and it sprouted a dense coat of fine white fur. It was pure white without a single stray mark, with clever, innocent black eyes; once healthy, its beauty was stunning.
Word was it had some Persian lineage, making its fur exceptionally soft—heavenly to the touch. It trusted Lin Mo implicitly and loved crawling onto her lap to soak up affection. Lin Mo’s evenings passed comfortably and quickly in the company of Xia Xue and Xue Luhe.
Soon, over a month had passed. Xue Luhe no longer needed a wheelchair and could walk on her own two legs. Though she could only manage short distances, she made progress every day.
Lin Mo spent her time meticulously thinking of nutritious dishes to cook for Xue Luhe’s recovery. She didn’t have time to cook every day, but she managed a feast every few days. Sitting side-by-side at the table, Xue Luhe would constantly pile food into Lin Mo’s bowl, and Lin Mo would reciprocate until their bowls were overflowing with the other’s care. After admiring the mound of food, they would share a knowing smile and begin their meal.
Lin Mo had been very busy at work lately—writing proposals, running events, and doing reviews—often staying until 8:00 or 9:00 PM. This evening was no different. She finished discussing an event plan with Qing Jing at nine, and when she stepped out, the streets were nearly empty.
The winter streetlights cast a dim, amber glow, like fireflies caught in the starry sky. The street was desolate and quiet. Qing Jing, Lin Mo, and a few colleagues walked out together. Just as they reached the storefront, someone gasped:
“Who is that? Who’s there?”
A figure emerged slowly from the corner, a tall, slender shadow cast against the wall. Lin Mo’s heart skipped a beat—that slow gait, could it be…?
However, it was Wang Ling’s face that finally came into the light. Wang Ling still harbored hostility toward Lin Mo. She glanced at Qing Jing first, then immediately fixed a wary gaze on Lin Mo.
Qing Jing let out a long, helpless sigh and waved the others off. “You guys go ahead, I…”
“Sure, no problem!”
“You handle your business, see you tomorrow!”
“We’re just going to call a taxi. Hey, Lin Mo, you coming?”
The cold wind sliced at Lin Mo’s face like a blade. For some reason, she felt a hollow ache in her chest. She joined her colleagues in calling a ride-share. As they stood shivering by the door, Qing Jing climbed into Wang Ling’s BMW and sped off, leaving the others looking on with envy.
“Sigh, at the end of the day, Wang Ling is really good to our boss. Look at that—dropping her off and picking her up early and late. Still waiting at this hour? So thoughtful.” “Exactly. If my partner was half as attentive, I’d be thrilled. Too bad he only plays games.” “Sometimes women really are better than men. I kind of want to find a girlfriend too…”
As the group gossiped, Xiao Yuan nudged Lin Mo’s down jacket. Seeing her distant expression, she whispered: “Are you thinking about President Xue?”
Lin Mo snapped out of her daze and looked at Xiao Yuan, her lip curling slightly. “How could I…”
Just then, several colleagues shrieked: “Is that the car coming? Wait, no, that’s a luxury car!”
“Hold on… isn’t that President Xue’s Rolls-Royce?”
“Oh my, why did President Xue come so late? Her leg hasn’t even fully healed!”
Xiao Yuan wore a knowing look and, along with the others, turned a meaningful gaze toward Lin Mo.
The Rolls-Royce swung around and stopped at the curb. The door lifted, and Xue Luhe’s exquisitely sharp-featured face appeared, looking straight at Lin Mo. Then, she naturally curled her lips into a sweet smile.
Wearing a silver short down jacket and trousers that made her long, straight legs look even more impressive, she stepped out of the car.
Lin Mo instinctively cried out: “Be careful! Your injury!”
Xue Luhe’s smile deepened. She wore high-top canvas sneakers for better stability. Her slender ankles held firm as she stepped onto the ground, showing no sign of strain. Her next steps were slow and deliberate. It took her a full minute to reach Lin Mo, but she stood tall.
She looked a bit proud as she held up a small bag. “I brought you some hot milk. Let’s go, drink it in the car.”
The surrounding colleagues were green with envy. Several couldn’t help but mutter: “So pampered… Lin Mo is too lucky!”
“I want hot milk too. Too bad no one brings me any. Sigh!”
“It’s so sweet, I’m dying of sweetness…”
Lin Mo took the milk; it was warm, at the perfect temperature to drink. She turned to say a quick goodbye to the group and saw Xiao Yuan winking at her. Lin Mo felt a blush creep up. Xiao Yuan gave her a “fighting” gesture, and when Lin Mo looked confused, Xiao Yuan hooked her two thumbs together and wiggled them with a suggestive grin.
Lin Mo finally understood. Xiao Yuan was telling her to seize the chance to… go to bed with Xue Luhe! Her cheeks burned, but she couldn’t admit she understood, so she turned and hurried toward the car.
Xue Luhe followed slowly, her posture elegant and dignified from behind, looking as though she had fully recovered. But from the front, one could see beads of sweat on her forehead and her jaw tightly clenched. To maintain her image, she had rarely seen people during her physical therapy. Today was her first appearance before Lin Mo’s colleagues since leaving the wheelchair; she had to be perfect.
These are Lin Mo’s friends and colleagues! Xue Luhe thought, putting more strength into her legs, precisely controlling every muscle to maintain her “casual” facade.
Unfortunately, the ground still had wet patches from the snow a few days ago. After a few steps, Xue Luhe’s foot slipped unexpectedly, and her body tilted to the side!
“Ah!”
Lin Mo, who had been walking ahead, heard the gasp and spun around. She lunged backward, reaching out to catch Xue Luhe, pulling her firmly into her embrace.
Under the amber streetlights, Xue Luhe’s waist was arched back by the force of gravity, and Lin Mo held her close, leaning over her. The pose was straight out of a romantic K-drama. The only difference was that the smaller Lin Mo was playing the “male lead” role, which only added a layer of “gap moe” to the scene.
“Whoa—” The onlookers erupted in fan-girl squeals. Several girls clutched their faces in delight, as if they were watching a live drama.
Lin Mo, however, didn’t care about their reaction. She was busy checking Xue Luhe’s hip: “Are you okay? Did you hurt anything?”
Xue Luhe’s eyes were sparkling, like ripples on water in the dark, filled with lingering affection. She looked into Lin Mo’s eyes and whispered: “I’m fine…”
Lin Mo was about to breathe a sigh of relief when Xue Luhe added: “…It’s just that my heart is beating too fast.”
Lin Mo anxiously reached for Xue Luhe’s chest to feel her heart. Coincidentally, since Xue Luhe’s original injury was her hip, Lin Mo had one hand supporting her lower back/hip and the other touching her chest…
The picture was so intimate that several colleagues let out a chorus of “Oooooh!”
Xue Luhe laughed softly, her cello-like voice carrying a mesmerizing charm as she whispered in Lin Mo’s ear: “I think you’ve made them misunderstand.”
Lin Mo’s hand on Xue Luhe’s chest froze. She quickly pulled it away, moved her other hand up from the hip, and scrambled to help Xue Luhe stand up properly.
“Can… can you still walk?”
“No problem.”
Xue Luhe naturally draped her right arm over Lin Mo’s shoulder, using her as a human crutch to walk to the car. Lin Mo walked carefully until they were inside, and the driver sped off.
Left behind, Xiao Yuan and the others shared looks of envy and realization. They saw a consensus in each other’s eyes: “Those two are definitely together! They’ve definitely ‘done it,’ otherwise they wouldn’t be this comfortable!”
Ever since that night Xue Luhe nearly slipped, Lin Mo had sternly forbidden her from picking her up or dropping her off at work.
“If you’re worried, hire a professional driver. Regardless, you are not to show up. Stay home, do your physical therapy, eat well, and recover quickly!” Lin Mo puffed out her cheeks, her face rosy and her expression a mix of seriousness and cuteness.
Xue Luhe wanted nothing more than to pinch her cheeks. “Alright, alright, I understand. I’ll take good care of myself so you don’t worry.”
Xue Luhe’s smile was wide and totally “unserious” as she reached out to touch Lin Mo’s face. As her fingers met the delicate skin, she couldn’t help but sigh; it felt smoother and softer than the finest silk.
“Who’s worried about you? Really… You got this injury saving me. If I’m not nice to you now, I’m afraid you’ll cling to me forever later!” Lin Mo insisted stubbornly, but she couldn’t help leaning her cheek into the other woman’s hand. The feeling of having her face pinched was unexpectedly nice.
“Then I’m afraid… you’re destined to be clung to.”
Xue Luhe chuckled, grazing the tip of Lin Mo’s nose with her thumb.
Clinging to you for a lifetime—that was decided a long time ago.
