The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 47
Chapter 47
While Lin Mo had plenty of ideas, she still needed to plan carefully to put them into practice.
Thinking back, how did Xue Luhe use to scare her every day?
First, she would frequently appear out of nowhere at the entrance of her apartment building, waiting for her to finish work just to pester her!
Then, she would show up on holidays, knocking on the door and taking it upon herself to decide they should have lunch together—completely lacking self-awareness!
The most terrifying part was the surveillance equipment hidden in her home! If Lin Mo hadn’t discovered it early, who knows what would have happened!
The more Lin Mo thought about it, the angrier she got. It was truly incomprehensible. Back then, Xue Luhe exerted total control over her, making her life miserable. And now? Now, she was actually cooking for her and taking care of her!
Am I suffering from Stockholm Syndrome? she wondered.
But then again, Xue Luhe had changed. She didn’t have that inexplicable temper anymore. Besides, her injury was caused by Lin Mo; it was only right to take responsibility.
However, that didn’t mean she forgave Xue Luhe for her past “perverted” behavior! There’s a saying: “an eye for an eye.” Lin Mo was determined to see that through!
On the day Xue Luhe was discharged, Lin Mo didn’t go to pick her up. Instead, she bought a single carnation and waited at home.
When she estimated the time was about right, she messaged Xu Lu:
“Are you here?”
Xu Lu replied a moment later: “Parking lot.”
Lin Mo immediately put on her coat, grabbed the flower, and headed downstairs. She lived in 1803, and Xue Luhe was in 1305—just five floors down.
Lin Mo hid in the emergency stairwell, patiently waiting for the elevator chime.
Ding.
Then came Xu Lu’s voice directing others: “Be careful, don’t hit the… okay, turn here…”
Lin Mo immediately leaped out from the corner and shouted:
“Wait a minute!”
She took in the scene at a glance: Xue Luhe was in a wheelchair, surrounded by three bodyguards, two caregivers, a nurse, and a doctor.
Everyone looked up at her, utterly bewildered.
Lin Mo felt a bit awkward, but she stuck to the plan, blocking Xue Luhe’s wheelchair and presenting the flower:
“I didn’t expect you to be out of the hospital so soon. Since you’re… since you’re living here now, you’d better be careful. I’ll be appearing constantly to scare you to death!”
Xue Luhe took the flower, her slender fingers brushing the petals. The corners of her mouth curled upward involuntarily.
She looked up, smiling brilliantly and innocently:
“Thank you. I hope you appear frequently. That would be wonderful.”
Lin Mo felt like this wasn’t going quite as planned… She had intended to jump out and startle Xue Luhe, but now it seemed she had only made her happier.
Clap, clap, clap!
Someone started it, and suddenly the circle of people around the wheelchair began to applaud. One of the Aunties wiped her eyes, deeply moved:
“Oh my, these two girls have such a beautiful bond. It’s rare to see young ladies caring for each other like this nowadays. So lovely, truly lovely!”
Lin Mo: “…”
She could only wave her hand and squeeze out: “Then, I’ll come by later. Have a speedy recovery.”
Xue Luhe turned her specialized wheelchair around to watch Lin Mo enter the elevator.
That face full of surprise and touched emotion didn’t disappear from Lin Mo’s sight until the elevator doors fully closed.
Once inside the elevator, Lin Mo realized she had miscalculated. What was I thinking? Back then, she was the prey and she hated Xue Luhe, which was why her sudden appearances were terrifying and annoying.
But now, Xue Luhe liked her! She was more than happy to see her. How could she find it annoying? Her fundamental strategy had been wrong from the start!
Lin Mo frustratedly tapped her head and set a new policy upon returning home: to make Xue Luhe feel “pain,” she needed to stay far away from her—ideally to the point of not meeting at all.
This would also effectively prevent Xue Luhe from getting any more ideas… During the time at the hospital, they had spent too much time together. Xue Luhe already had “that look” again, staring at her with incredibly heated eyes every day.
It troubled Lin Mo. She felt she and Xue Luhe weren’t a good match at all; there was no need to force things. Why couldn’t they just be casual acquaintances?
So, for many reasons, Lin Mo decided to stop having contact with Xue Luhe.
Lin Mo worked hard to follow her new rule. She didn’t appear before Xue Luhe for three consecutive days, and Xue Luhe didn’t send any messages.
On the fourth day, Lin Mo came home from work and was opening her door when she suddenly heard a strange sound behind her.
Turning around, she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Xue Luhe, dressed in a long linen robe, was sitting in her wheelchair at the end of the hallway, looking at her expectantly!
Her wheelchair couldn’t maneuver in the narrow space; the wheel was wedged into the stair railing, leaving her completely stuck.
Seeing Lin Mo, Xue Luhe’s eyes flickered away shyly yet hopefully. Her obsidian-like eyes reflected Lin Mo’s figure as she whispered:
“You’re back…”
Lin Mo: “…How long have you been stuck here? Why did you come up here for no reason?”
Xue Luhe lowered her head, her fingers pressing against the edge of the wheelchair. Her voice carried a hint of grievance:
“I wanted to come up and see you. How have you been… lately?”
Lin Mo rolled her eyes, stepped forward to help pull the wheelchair out of the railing, stood up straight, and took a step back:
“Fine. You’ve seen me now, right? I’m perfectly okay. Come on, I’ll push you back.”
Xue Luhe’s gaze traveled slowly over every inch of Lin Mo, from the top of her head to the soles of her feet, looking very carefully. After a long pause, she said:
“I’ll head back then. You go on with your business, no need to see me out.”
She pressed a button, and the smart wheelchair automatically sped forward. She really didn’t need Lin Mo’s help. She quickly entered the elevator and disappeared.
Lin Mo stared at the empty space, pouting slightly.
This person is still quite proud. Once rejected, she shrinks back immediately. Her self-esteem can’t be challenged.
In truth, if she had pleaded with Lin Mo to come inside and chat, Lin Mo wouldn’t have refused—after all, she looked quite pitiful.
But Xue Luhe simply didn’t have that personality. Even with her massive character shift, she hadn’t learned how to beg.
A few more days passed. With many winter holidays approaching, Lin Mo was busy planning various events for the coffee shop. She was on her feet all day, running between locations.
When Xue Luhe was in the hospital, she could manage to cook for her every day or two. Now that they lived close, she actually hadn’t cooked once due to her psychological unease and her busy schedule.
The coffee shop was packed lately, and the activities were showing great results. Lin Mo’s bonus was rising, and Qing Jing had publicly praised her in front of the staff several times. Her sense of professional achievement was at an all-time high.
Fearing that Qing Jing might still have feelings for her and was using this as a subtle way to pursue her, Lin Mo specifically invited Qing Jing for a talk after work to explain her concerns.
Qing Jing, wearing a red scarf, gave a gentle and bright smile:
“No, I praise you because you deserve it. You’ve brought great profit to the company, there’s no other reason. Besides, you’ve already rejected me. If I kept pushing, wouldn’t I be making a fool of myself?”
Lin Mo rubbed her head and gave a silly grin. Qing Jing asked casually:
“I heard Xue Luhe was injured. The details weren’t made public, but you must know, right? How is she doing now?”
Lin Mo: “She broke a bone trying to save me. She was in the hospital for a while but she’s out now, recovering at home. She still has to use a wheelchair, though.”
Qing Jing grew pensive and serious:
“Mo Mo, as a friend, I still want to advise you to keep your distance. I’ve experienced people like her. To be honest, I think they have ‘incomplete’ personalities.”
Lin Mo didn’t know what to say and could only give an awkward smile.
Qing Jing shifted her posture and advised earnestly:
“You’ve met Wang Ling, right? She’s always been like that. When I first met her, I thought she was just young, but she’s grown up now and hasn’t changed; she’s actually gotten worse. She and Xue Luhe are the same kind of people. I’m afraid you’ll regret it later, just like I did.”
Lin Mo gave a soft “Ah” and replied: “I haven’t contacted Xue Luhe lately.”
Only then did Qing Jing nod with a gentle smile: “Don’t find me naggy. I only say this because your family isn’t around. I’ve stepped in these pits myself, and I really can’t bear to watch you fall into them too…”
That “can’t bear to” made Lin Mo’s heart skip a beat. Thinking of something, she asked:
“Will you and Wang Ling be together in the future? Will you remarry?”
Qing Jing dazed for a moment, then shook her head with a bitter smile:
“Impossible. I have no feelings for her anymore. Being together again wouldn’t be fair to anyone.”
Lin Mo said her goodbyes and left.
Emotions were truly too complicated; Lin Mo felt she didn’t understand them at all.
Just as she returned to her room, she received a WeChat from Xue Luhe:
“Are you home? Come down for a bit?”
After some deliberation, Lin Mo secretly tucked the whip Xue Luhe had given her into her pocket and headed downstairs.
The door to 1305 was wide open. Past the entryway was an elegant, minimalist living room. Lin Mo walked in and saw Xue Luhe in her wheelchair, chatting with a distinguished middle-aged man.
Seeing Lin Mo, Xue Luhe immediately smiled and introduced her to the man:
“This is the Miss Lin Mo I told you about; she is very interested in cooking. Lin Mo, this is Mr. Wang Yu, one of the top ten chefs in the country. He’s here to cook today. I wonder if you’d be interested in observing?”
Lin Mo’s eyes widened. She was indeed very interested in making things. To be able to watch a chef of this caliber was way beyond her expectations!
But… Lin Mo felt a bit timid. She leaned in and whispered to Xue Luhe:
“Will it bother him if I watch? And I’m just an amateur, I probably won’t even understand what he’s doing.”
Xue Luhe turned back with an encouraging smile:
“Go ahead. Chef Wang says interest is the best teacher. I think you have talent. Watching might even open a new career path for you. Haven’t you always wanted to improve your cooking?”
Xue Luhe had chatted with Lin Mo about this while in the hospital. At the time, Lin Mo had expressed that cooking was her biggest hobby and that she wanted to take a class if possible.
Now that the opportunity was right in front of her, Lin Mo shrank back, twisting her hands nervously:
“Oh, but I’ve never even been a kitchen assistant… jumping straight to a nationally ranked chef, I’m so nervous…”
Xue Luhe looked at Lin Mo and suddenly spoke:
“Mo Mo, I’ve noticed you have a serious flaw.”
Lin Mo’s eyes widened: “What is it?”
Xue Luhe’s lips curled into a doting smile: “You’re afraid to try new things.”
It was a moment of enlightenment for Lin Mo. She realized Xue Luhe had hit the nail on the head, making her heart quiver.
Chef Wang Yu, who had been observing the interaction, stood up with a smile:
“Then I’ll head to the kitchen to prepare.”
Once the chef left, Lin Mo stood there feeling even more nervous.
She felt like she was back in elementary school, going to the teacher’s office. Because she had good grades but a weak constitution, her homeroom teacher would often take her to the office to help grade papers or organize notebooks as a way of looking after her.
It was supposed to be a good thing, but for Lin Mo, it was terrifying. She didn’t dare speak or laugh in front of the teachers; she kept herself tense and tried to be a perfect student. The atmosphere was always incredibly strained.
It felt like that again. Lin Mo turned to Xue Luhe for help: “Do I really have to go?”
Xue Luhe chuckled, looked up at her, and suddenly reached out to grab her hand.
“Let’s go. I’ll go with you.”
Xue Luhe drove her wheelchair forward. The smart wheelchair was quite powerful, pulling Lin Mo right along with it.
Lin Mo looked at her captured hand, then at the back of the powerful-looking Xue Luhe. A hint of sweetness slowly surged in her heart.
“It’s normal to be afraid of new things. From now on, I’ll be with you. Try whatever you like, you don’t have to fear anything.”
Xue Luhe turned back and smiled at Lin Mo again:
“After all, I am wealthy, powerful, beautiful, and smart. I should be qualified enough to be your backbone, right?”
Lin Mo’s heart pounded, and her cheeks slowly turned red, but she still acted tough:
“Wait until you can stand up before talking. You, a backbone… on the day it snowed, I broke my backbone’s bones. You’re too fragile!”
Xue Luhe arrived at the kitchen door. Still holding Lin Mo’s hand, she led her inside and replied with a beaming smile:
“I’m very ‘durable.’ You can try me out and see.”
By the refrigerator, Wang Yu suddenly burst out laughing.
Only then did Lin Mo realize—had Xue Luhe just subtly “driven a car” (made a dirty joke)?
Her tactics were way too deep.
