The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 30
Chapter 30
When Lin Mo woke up, the sky was already turning dark. The sunset in a foreign land seemed brighter, and the flaming clouds were more majestic and imposing.
She tidied her things and headed downstairs to eat local specialty delicacies. After returning to the hotel, she video-called Lu Ruoruo, repeatedly emphasizing that everything was fine.
Facing the camera, Lu Ruoruo was making exaggerated gestures and expressions, persistently asking why Lin Mo had run away. Losing her patience, Lin Mo said directly:
“It’s to avoid Xue Luhe! And I don’t want to see Xi Shen anymore either!”
Lu Ruoruo was momentarily speechless. After a while, she wailed:
“Then how could you have the heart to leave me behind? Do you know that Xue Luhe’s secretary came looking for me today! I was so scared I didn’t even eat my dessert! That secretary asked where you went, and she looked at me like she wanted to kill me!”
Lin Mo sighed. She wasn’t surprised by Xue Luhe’s actions. If the woman didn’t dig to the root of the matter and involve everyone, she wouldn’t be Xue Luhe.
That was why, even now, Lin Mo hadn’t told Lu Ruoruo her exact location, only vaguely mentioning she was in the North.
“Anyway, no matter what she asks, just say you don’t know. Don’t worry too much. Xue Luhe isn’t a completely unreasonable person. You really don’t know, and she’ll be able to see that. She won’t make things hard for you.”
Lu Ruoruo squeezed out two teardrops. “Sob, it’s so scary. I just don’t understand why Xue Luhe is so obsessed with you. Aren’t you two about to divorce?”
Lin Mo spread her hands. “I don’t know either. She’s a psychopath. Psychopaths have ‘broad horizons’ in their thinking; how can we normal people figure them out?”
After a few more words, they hung up. Lin Mo checked WeChat; there were still messages from Xue Luhe. Every hour or so, a message would come: I am looking for you.
Look then… Lin Mo felt a bit resigned. At worst, she’d just be dragged back to the villa. Xue Luhe wouldn’t actually kill her! As long as she stayed alive, Lin Mo felt there was always a chance for a comeback. Maybe one day she could even take Xue Luhe down.
That night, however, Lin Mo didn’t sleep well. Perhaps due to excessive worry, she kept dreaming of being caught and brought back.
At dawn, Lin Mo groggily opened her eyes and was startled to find someone standing by her bed. Deep, dark eyes filled with malice stared intently at her, long hair draped over the person’s shoulders.
Her scalp tingled with fear, and she woke up completely. When she looked again, there was no one by the bed. It had been a dream—she had scared herself awake.
Her heart was still pounding wildly. Lin Mo clutched her chest, taking a while to calm down. Glancing at the alarm clock, she realized she had woken up five minutes before her set time.
She got up, washed, and specifically put on a pair of professional high heels she had bought for the interview. She applied light makeup and took a taxi to the company.
Lin Mo was originally full of confidence. In her previous world, she had been a white-collar professional. Surely she could get into a small startup like this? Besides, this was the second interview.
She arrived at the company ten minutes early. After checking in with HR, she was led to a private meeting room and told to wait.
Initially, Lin Mo sat upright in the meeting room, but after waiting for half an hour, she couldn’t help but take out her phone. She saw a few more messages from Xue Luhe, but interestingly, the wording had shifted toward a tone of pleading.
Come back, at least let me know you’re safe. I just want to check on you. Are you okay? Won’t you post something on your Moments?
Lin Mo read them expressionlessly, exited WeChat, and browsed Weibo.
The splash screen was an ad for Mu Fei’s new drama. In this historical romance idol drama, Mu Fei looked ethereal and pure in white, smiling at the camera in a way that would make anyone’s heart flutter.
Lin Mo clicked “Skip,” entered Weibo, and checked the trending searches. She found Xue Luhe’s name at the very top.
#Huang Zhijie Invited Xue Luhe But Was Rejected#
Lin Mo knew the name Huang Zhijie—he was a very famous director of commercial films, and his career had been booming in recent years.
She clicked on it and found the news: In an interview, Director Huang Zhijie revealed he was preparing a new movie and had invited Xue Luhe to be the female lead, but she had rejected him heartlessly. The reason she gave was:
“I am currently taking a course on emotional studies and have no time for filming.”
Lin Mo’s eyelid twitched. What does “taking a course on emotional studies” mean? Xue Luhe had been staying at home; she wasn’t taking any courses. She spent all her time monitoring Lin Mo.
Thinking this, Lin Mo felt a sudden chill down her spine!
Could it be that she was Xue Luhe’s… “emotional course”?
Was she really pursuing her? And treating the pursuit as a “course”?
Lin Mo broke into a cold sweat. She recalled the scene in Room 2203 when Xue Luhe handed the whip to her. That whip was currently lying in her suitcase in the hotel. It looked expensive, so Lin Mo hadn’t thrown it away; she brought it with her.
Xue Luhe had all sorts of quirks. To give such a personal item to her must have required a certain level of resolve.
But why would Xue Luhe do this?
Previously, Lin Mo thought it was an apology, but now… she began to doubt Xue Luhe’s motives.
Before she could figure it out, the frosted glass door behind her was pushed open. A middle-aged man with a potbelly walked in.
Lin Mo stood up immediately. “Hello, I’m here for the interview. My name is Lin Mo.”
The middle-aged man sat down across the desk, his belly protruding. His face fat jiggled as he laughed, waving his hand for Lin Mo to sit.
“Mm, don’t be stiff. Sit down first. Let’s just have a chat, like a daily conversation. Little girl, the Marketing Planning position you’re applying for requires frequent business travel. I want to ask, do you have a boyfriend? Do you plan on having children?”
Lin Mo felt a flash of discomfort but forced a smile. “I have neither. I can accept business travel.”
The middle-aged man squinted his fatty eyes and laughed. “That’s wonderful. My company needs someone like you—young, beautiful, and looks like a sensible girl! Now, can you drink? When we go out to talk business in the future, you’ll be the face of our company. It’s inevitable that you’ll have to drink with the big bosses! You’re so young and pretty, I’m sure it won’t be a problem!”
Lin Mo’s smile vanished. Her face tightened, and her brow furrowed. “I don’t drink. Besides, why does Marketing Planning need to be at a drinking table? I’m not in sales.”
The man’s smile stiffened for a moment, then he said with a smirk:
“Little girl, it seems your understanding of society is too shallow. You don’t understand our Chinese ‘drinking table culture.’ It has a long history. Big figures like it this way, and they all like having a girl like you around when they drink. You don’t need to drink much; it’s just to liven up the atmosphere. You look good!”
Seeing Lin Mo’s face grow darker, the man spoke even more excitedly:
“Your conditions are very good. You have a great figure and a sweet face. People will like you… How about I raise your salary? I’ll add 2000 per month. Just accompany us for drinks after work, and you’ll get that 2000! You just graduated and have no experience; this kind of job is hard to find!”
As he spoke, he looked at Lin Mo with a lecherous gaze. His “salty pig hand” began to creep closer and closer, looking like it was about to touch Lin Mo’s hand on the table…
Splash! Bang! Thud!
Various sounds erupted at once, converging into a chaotic loud noise!
Lin Mo kicked the chair over, stood up, and with quick hands, grabbed two disposable paper cups from the desk and poured the tea inside directly over the middle-aged man’s head!
After a pig-like howl, Lin Mo took advantage of the man being blinded by the tea. She grabbed two pens from the side and stabbed them directly into the back of his fatty hand!
“AARGH!”
Seeing the man jump up and howl in pain, Lin Mo grabbed her things and quickly fled the scene.
As she reached the entrance, she saw two other young girls filling out forms. Lin Mo shouted at them:
“Sexual harassment! Run!”
After shouting, she heard the pig-like howling behind her: “Catch her! Catch her!”
Lin Mo’s high heels clicked loudly against the floor as she ran into the stairwell, sprinting down. Her heartbeat echoed wildly in her ears, her hair was blown back by the wind, and the adrenaline made everything feel hallucinatory and thrilling.
After sprinting down twelve floors, Lin Mo stood in an open area with a breeze, finally unclinching her jaw and breathing in the fresh air.
Back in that company, she had almost been suffocated by the greasy air surrounding that man!
It was too disgusting! How could such a revolting person exist? She didn’t even want to think back on it; the memory made her want to vomit!
Fearing someone from the company would chase her, Lin Mo hopped onto a random bus. She followed the swaying vehicle all the way to a quiet, tree-lined road with few people and got off at a random stop.
Standing by the roadside hidden by green trees, holding her small bag, Lin Mo looked around, feeling utterly lost and empty.
The excitement from the adrenaline had faded, leaving only a sense of loss and sadness. She had finally received an interview invite, only to find a place like that… She had traveled to a distant, unfamiliar city for something so vile. Now her job was not secured, and she had to find a proper place to stay…
And the “Big Creep” Xue Luhe was still tracking her like a shadow.
Where would the future lead? Where had the past gone?
Lin Mo had never felt it as strongly as at this moment: to this world, she was nothing more than “cannon fodder”…
She walked aimlessly for a while until the heel of her shoe got stuck between two stones. She pulled at it for a long time but couldn’t get it out, eventually tripping and falling to the ground.
Fortunately, the area was sparsely populated. Only an elderly man and a stray dog witnessed her embarrassment.
Lin Mo grit her teeth, refusing to let the tears fall. She crouched on one bare foot, reaching out to pull the shoe still stuck in the stones.
Right then, the phone rang again.
Guided by some strange impulse, Lin Mo stopped and took out her phone. She saw a call from Xue Luhe.
Her hand slipped, and she accidentally answered—luckily, it was only an audio call.
Xue Luhe’s voice was still deep and pleasant, but her tone was filled with an unfamiliar anxiety and anger:
“Where are you?! You finally answered. Why did you sneak away? What city are you in now…”
Lin Mo’s nose wrinkled, and she couldn’t hold it back anymore. she burst into tears:
“Waaaah…”
The other end of the line went silent instantly. Only the sound of Lin Mo’s sobbing echoed quietly.
“What happened to you?”
At first, Lin Mo thought the words came from the receiver, but she immediately realized something was wrong and looked up.
Standing before her was a woman in her early thirties with a gentle appearance, wearing a white shirt and khaki trousers. She was looking at Lin Mo with concern.
Seeing her dazed, the woman repeated:
“What happened? Don’t cry…”
