The Movie Queen's Beloved Crybaby Alpha - Chapter 25
Fingers trailed across the small of her back, sending shivers down her spine.
Ye Qinglan turned her head slightly, only to see Ning Yunshu still chatting and laughing with others. Her little gesture had gone completely unnoticed by anyone.
A cold smile flickered in Ye Qinglan’s heart, though her expression remained unchanged as she continued the conversation. Then, stealthily hiding her hand beneath the table, she pinched Ning Yunshu’s thigh.
“Mmm…” Ning Yunshu let out a muffled groan.
“What’s wrong, President Ning? Are you feeling unwell?” Ye Qinglan asked with feigned concern, tilting her head as if completely unaware.
“N-no, it’s nothing,” Ning Yunshu forced a dry laugh. “I just bumped my knee against the table leg.”
Ye Qinglan then pretended to sigh in relief. “That’s good. I thought you weren’t feeling well.”
“Yes, President Ning, if you’re unwell, you should rest,” Du Wenjun chimed in with concern.
“It’s really nothing, don’t worry about me. Please, continue your conversation,” Ning Yunshu replied awkwardly, rubbing her leg before deftly steering the topic elsewhere, successfully diverting everyone’s attention.
After the meal, the group returned to the hotel.
Only then did Ye Qinglan learn that Ning Yunshu was staying on the floor above hers, sharing the same level as Director Xu and the others.
As they rode the elevator together, Ning Yunshu standing beside her, some of the tipsy group continued chatting animatedly. It was then that Ye Qinglan felt Ning Yunshu’s pinky finger secretly hooking around hers. She caught Ning Yunshu’s hand in response, giving it a gentle squeeze.
Just as the elevator reached their floor, Ye Qinglan released Ning Yunshu’s finger and exited with the others.
When the elevator doors closed again, Ning Yunshu looked at her hand, still warm from Ye Qinglan’s touch, her face breaking into a wide smile.
Meanwhile, Ye Qinglan bid everyone goodnight and returned to her room, immediately pulling out her phone which had been buzzing incessantly with notifications.
As expected, all the messages were from Ning Yunshu.
[Ning Yunshu]: I’m so happy! Today I finally got to talk to you openly.
[Ning Yunshu]: Did I scare you earlier? Don’t be mad at me, okay?
[Ning Yunshu]: Sister, I really want to see you.
In the short time it took Ye Qinglan to walk from the elevator to her room, Ning Yunshu had been flooding her phone with messages, like an excited puppy.
She had been startled, but not exactly angry after all, she’d gotten her revenge during dinner.
[Ye Qinglan]: I’m not angry. But what if someone sees you coming here now?
[Ning Yunshu]: whines But I really want to be alone with you for a while.
Ye Qinglan hesitated. It was true she also wanted some private time with Ning Yunshu, but she worried about the risk of being discovered.
As she pondered, another message arrived.
[Ning Yunshu]: I’m returning to S City tomorrow. And I’ll be careful not to be seen.
At the mention of Ning Yunshu’s impending departure, Ye Qinglan bit her lip. If Ning Yunshu promised to be cautious, perhaps it would be alright as long as no one noticed.
Taking a deep breath, she finally replied.
[Ye Qinglan]: Alright, come over.
[Ning Yunshu]: Yay! Wait for me, sister! I’ll get ready and come down right away.
Looking at the message, Ye Qinglan’s face showed mostly helplessness, though she didn’t realize how tender her gaze had become while reading it.
After tidying up briefly, she soon heard a knock at the door. Hurrying to answer, she found Ning Yunshu dressed in hotel housekeeping attire, leaving Ye Qinglan torn between laughter and exasperation.
“Do you need your room cleaned?” Ning Yunshu even teased her playfully.
Ye Qinglan chuckled, “Yes, come in.”
After letting Ning Yunshu inside, she nervously scanned the surroundings to ensure no one was watching before closing the door. Turning back with a smile, she asked, “What’s with this getup?”
Ning Yunshu glanced at herself and grinned, “Borrowed from the hotel. I told them I wanted to clean my own room and needed something to avoid getting dusty.”
Ye Qinglan laughed softly, “How embarrassing for you, a proper CEO dressing up as housekeeping just to see me.”
“It’s nothing. Besides, visiting my sister is important, I had to prepare properly,” Ning Yunshu said, lifting her chin proudly.
Unable to resist, Ye Qinglan pinched her cheek lightly, “You seem awfully pleased with yourself.”
Ning Yunshu looked at her with feigned innocence, “Not at all. I’m just happy to have some alone time with you.”
“Such smooth talk,” Ye Qinglan huffed, releasing her cheek.
Ning Yunshu simply grinned.
“Are you leaving tomorrow?” Ye Qinglan asked, watching her silly expression.
“Yeah,” Ning Yunshu’s head drooped immediately at the question.
“End of the month means piles of reports and meetings. I wish I could just walk away.”
Her reluctance was palpable.
“With the headquarters just relocated, I can’t exactly be hands-off yet. Once things stabilize, I can delegate more and just review financial reports.”
Hearing this, Ye Qinglan reached out to ruffle her hair gently, “You’ve worked hard.”
Ning Yunshu looked up at her with pleading eyes, “Sister, can I hug you?”
Ye Qinglan froze momentarily, caught off guard.
“O-of course, but if you’re uncomfortable, it’s fine!” Ning Yunshu quickly backtracked, waving her hands anxiously as if fearing disapproval.
With a soft sigh, Ye Qinglan stepped forward and embraced her first.
Now it was Ning Yunshu’s turn to stiffen in surprise before cautiously returning the hug after a long pause.
“All these years, you’ve worked so hard.”
Those seven simple words made Ning Yunshu’s nose sting and eyes redden. She buried her face in Ye Qinglan’s shoulder, trembling slightly.
Sensing her emotions, Ye Qinglan rubbed her back soothingly while joking, “What’s this? Is the renowned Little CEO Ning of J.S about to cry on me?”
Her voice muffled, Ning Yunshu muttered, “It’s not like I haven’t cried in front of you before. I’m used to it.”
Ye Qinglan chuckled softly, “Such a crybaby.”
“I don’t cry in front of others,” came the muffled retort.
“Well then, Little CEO Ning, have you cried enough?” Ye Qinglan teased.
“Enough.” Ning Yunshu sniffled.
Ye Qinglan chuckled softly and was about to let go when Ning Yunshu tightened her embrace.
“Ning Yunshu, we’re not done yet,” Ye Qinglan said, amused.
“If we’re not done, we can settle it later. You made me cry, so now you have to comfort me,” Ning Yunshu replied, displaying rare assertiveness in front of Ye Qinglan.
“You’re the one who started crying, and now you’re blaming me? Ning Yunshu, where’s your logic?” Ye Qinglan sighed helplessly but allowed Ning Yunshu to keep holding her.
“I don’t need logic. If I start reasoning with you, you’ll just run away.” Whether it was the alcohol or not, Ning Yunshu’s boldness had clearly surged.
Ye Qinglan couldn’t help but laugh in exasperation.
“Oh? Are you saying I’m the unreasonable one?”
“No, no!” Ning Yunshu quickly replied, lifting her head to gaze pitifully at Ye Qinglan. “I misspoke. Don’t be mad, okay?”
Truth be told, if Ye Qinglan were genuinely angry, Ning Yunshu would’ve been tossed out long ago. Right now, she was just teasing her a little.
Unable to resist Ning Yunshu like this, Ye Qinglan sighed and patted her head. “Alright, have you hugged enough? Time to let go.”
“If I say I haven’t, can I hold you a little longer?” Ning Yunshu asked.
“No,” Ye Qinglan refused flatly.
“Fine.” Ning Yunshu reluctantly released her.
Ye Qinglan looked at her and said, “Alright, you’ve been out long enough. It’s time to go back.”
Ning Yunshu hesitated, reluctant to leave, but Ye Qinglan cleared her throat. “I still need to shower. I drank today, and I have filming tomorrow.”
Pouting, Ning Yunshu finally stood up. “I understand. Then you go freshen up and rest early.”
“Mm, you too. You have to return to S City tomorrow,” Ye Qinglan reassured her.
“Okay.”
Grudgingly, Ning Yunshu adjusted her mask and cleaning cap before leaving Ye Qinglan’s room.
Once she was gone, Ye Qinglan leaned against the door and took a deep breath.
The glands on the back of her neck were beginning to burn faintly, a subtle rose scent already permeating the air and it was only growing stronger.
Ye Qinglan gritted her teeth, her legs trembling slightly.
She never expected that just being hugged by Ning Yunshu would trigger her heat cycle prematurely.
If Ning Yunshu had stayed in the room any longer, she didn’t dare imagine what might have happened.
Her breathing grew labored, her cheeks flushed with heat as she stumbled toward the bed. She grabbed her bag, rummaged through it, and pulled out a pillbox, swallowing two emergency suppressants with water.
Then she collapsed onto the bed, waiting for the medication to take effect.
After tossing and turning for an hour, drenched in sweat, the wretched heat was finally suppressed. Ye Qinglan lay there like a fish out of water, gasping for air.
The air conditioning hummed, gradually dispersing the lingering rose scent. Exhausted, Ye Qinglan dragged herself to the bathroom.
As she sank into the hot water, the soothing flow against her skin made her exhale deeply in relief.
It seemed she’d have to restrain herself from physical contact with Ning Yunshu in the future. Otherwise, these sudden heat flares would be unbearable.
Especially now, while filming, if anything went wrong, the consequences would be disastrous.
At this thought, Ye Qinglan scooped a handful of water and splashed it on her face to clear her mind. After washing up and drying her hair, she curled up under the covers and fell into a deep sleep.
Yet her dreams that night were anything but peaceful. A tantalizing atmosphere filled her slumber, and the sensation of skin against skin left her utterly enchanted. In her drowsy state, she faintly heard someone whispering in her ear.
“Big sister.”
