The Mad Beauty and the Sick Young Lady [Transmigration Novel] - Chapter 47
Su Li ran into Li Zhenzhen when she returned to the villa.
Li Zhenzhen stood in the main hall with her arms crossed, looking at her:
“Where did you run off to late at night?”
Su Li’s scalp tingled:
“It was nothing… just…”
She wasn’t good at lying, and sweat broke out from her anxiety.
Li Zhenzhen, however, smiled:
“Actually, you’re old enough now, and your health is slowly getting better. I’m not the kind of parent who’d cage our family’s Omega at home. I won’t object if you occasionally sneak out to date or have some fun.”
Su Li:
“…”
She was completely stunned by this barrage of kind words.
Li Zhenzhen wrapped her arms around herself, looking imposing:
“But! You must never get mixed up with those sketchy Alphas out there, and you must remember to take your suppressants, understand? If you get into trouble outside, I’ll hire bodyguards for you the kind that won’t leave you alone even when you go to the bathroom.”
Su Li stiffened for a long moment, then nodded:
“Mom, don’t worry. I know what I’m doing.”
Li Zhenzhen sighed:
“Oh, can I really be at ease? This fresh, tender little flower who knows which Alpha she’ll end up with… Forget it. Your mother won’t interfere. Just guarantee your safety, and remember that I will always be your backup. Tell me if anything happens, okay? Don’t be shy.”
Su Li was deeply moved by these words and took the initiative to step forward and hug her mother.
After the warm mother-daughter moment, Su Li returned to her room and began to fret about how to discuss the matter with Jiang Zhuoye.
At eleven o’clock late that night, Jiang Zhuoye called, her voice gentle:
“Something came up, and I missed your call earlier. What’s wrong? Why are you still awake so late?”
Su Li hesitated, chatted about some trivial things, and finally mustered the courage to say:
“That… I saw the hot search.”
Jiang Zhuoye’s tone remained composed and unhurried:
“I know you saw it. Didn’t you post on Weibo?”
Su Li:
“…Ah.”
Her ears couldn’t help but turn red. Jiang Zhuoye had seen that sentence she posted on Weibo… Would Jiang Zhuoye think it was a subtle boast?
“It’s nothing. I’ll just announce our relationship directly. Since it has to be said sooner or later, when we get married, am I going to hide my wife?”
Jiang Zhuoye said it lightly.
But every word was like a thunderclap exploding in Su Li’s heart.
Why did she suddenly bring up marriage? And ‘wife’? That was too embarrassing!
Su Li thought for a moment:
“The country hasn’t passed the marriage law for two Omegas yet, has it?”
Jiang Zhuoye didn’t seem to care:
“We can go abroad.”
Su Li:
“But… um, I actually wonder, can we not announce it yet?”
Jiang Zhuoye’s voice dropped slightly:
“Hmm?”
Su Li gritted her teeth, racking her brain as she spoke:
“It’s just that I’m still recovering my health. If we announce it, won’t I be attacked? Also, I feel like being forced to announce it by the trolls seems to lack a sense of ceremony. And I think… it might affect your career, too. We’ve only been dating for a short time. Let’s announce it later when it’s absolutely necessary. There’s really no rush right now…”
She knew she was speaking incoherently, and as she talked, her voice grew weaker, faint as a thread of silk.
Jiang Zhuoye remained silent for a while after listening, then said softly:
“It’s still because of my identity that you have so many worries. I’m sorry. I’ve actually always thought about retiring from the entertainment industry… Since you don’t want to announce it, I’ll just handle this quietly.”
Su Li:
“Why are you talking about retiring! You’re so talented, no! I love watching your acting!”
Jiang Zhuoye let out a soft chuckle, her voice was so captivating:
“Is that so? Then I’ll act at home, just for you.”
Su Li’s face flushed again, feeling hot all around her. She was thankful this was a voice call, so her face couldn’t be seen. She quickly rubbed her cheeks to steady her voice:
“It’s not that I don’t want to announce it, and I’m not afraid of those anti-fans. I just feel that announcing it so hastily lacks a sense of ceremony. I want to wait until we’ve been dating for longer.”
Jiang Zhuoye nodded gently on the other end:
“Mhm, I understand. I’ll do as you say.”
Su Li breathed a sigh of relief, but she vaguely felt that something wasn’t quite right. She just couldn’t pinpoint what it was. After hanging up the phone, she collapsed onto the bed, worriedly contemplating that Jiang Zhuoye’s overall psychological state seemed a bit downbeat.
The next day, Su Li woke up and immediately checked Weibo, finding that the hot search had been demoted. It wasn’t as prominent, but it was still being discussed by many people.
Some marketing accounts posted posts that stirred up the rhythm:
[Jiang Zhuoye is just an actress, what’s wrong with her dating? Are celebrities not allowed to fall in love? Are they not allowed to have a normal family?]
[With Jiang Zhuoye’s awful temper, it’s good enough that someone is willing to be with her. Fans shouldn’t be so picky. Do you really want your idol to be single her whole life?]
Similar posts from marketing accounts, which were clearly purchased, had comments sections full of people cursing them out.
Su Li found it annoying and checked her own comment section, which had also been overrun. Jiang Zhuoye’s haters were running rampant, throwing all sorts of insults.
She didn’t know when this matter would pass… Jiang Zhuoye must be very busy these few days, so Su Li decided not to bother her and amuse herself instead.
Su Li stayed home and painted a few more canvases, all filled with landscapes, flowers, and colors. When Guan Jingxian came to visit and saw them, she praised them profusely, saying that Su Li’s painting style had changed since she recovered from her illness, becoming so bright and warm.
Su Li didn’t dare to reveal the truth: that she was just constantly thinking of Jiang Zhuoye while painting.
Two days later, at night, Su Li finally received a call from Jiang Zhuoye:
“I’ll pick you up at your doorstep at 10 AM tomorrow.”
Su Li:
“What are we going to do?”
Jiang Zhuoye chuckled softly:
“Go relax.”
The next day, Su Li carefully dressed up, putting on a pink plaid dress and a rosy spring date makeup look. Downstairs, she saw Jiang Zhuoye leaning against her sports car.
Jiang Zhuoye gave a slight smile. Beside her, a cherry blossom tree was shedding its petals, which fluttered down, highlighting her brilliant smile.
Su Li felt her heart fluttering, beating so hard she couldn’t contain it. She skipped a few steps to the car and greeted Jiang Zhuoye with a smile:
“Hi!”
Seeing the lively look of the girl before her, Jiang Zhuoye’s smile grew wider. She reached out and ruffled Su Li’s hair, taking great care not to mess up the curls that were clearly styled with effort.
“Get in. Let’s go.”
“Where are we going?”
“You’ll know when we get there.”
Su Li chattered all the way. When they arrived, she got out and saw a vast park with people strolling in small groups and lush flowers and trees.
It was just a walk in the park. Su Li found it a little unexciting, but of course, she didn’t say it out loud. She thought that Jiang Zhuoye needed to relax, so she would accompany her. Never mind a walk in the park, anywhere would be fine.
After walking only a few steps, Jiang Zhuoye said she needed to use the restroom and told Su Li to wait on a bench.
Su Li was sitting on a bench facing the river, looking at the surging water, when she suddenly heard a sales pitch nearby:
“Beautiful lady, come see the latest installation art from our company!”
Before Su Li could react, a ticket was forcefully placed into her hand by a cute, round faced girl. The girl pointed to a small house in front of them:
“It’s right there. Can you please come take a look with me? Please!”
Su Li looked over and was immediately stunned. The small house was entirely constructed from balloons and giant candies, in soft shades of pink, blue, yellow, and white. Crucially, unlike ordinary installations, it had a hidden interior, and the house itself covered a large area.
Su Li definitely wanted to go, and the girl invited her enthusiastically, but she still refused:
“I’m waiting for my friend. We’ll go together when she gets back.”
The girl still wouldn’t let go, and her expression gradually became anxious, constantly winking at Su Li.
Su Li saw the girl mouth the name “Jiang Zhuoye.” She suddenly understood and tentatively asked:
“Did someone… specifically ask you to invite me?”
The girl nodded frantically. Su Li understood then, stood up, and walked into the dreamy little house made of candy and balloons.
She was astonished as soon as she entered. The small house had two rooms. The walls were covered with photos clipped by small cartoon clips all of them were classic pictures of Jiang Zhuoye.
The bright and beautiful Jiang Zhuoye laughing in a colorful dress; the dark and gloomy Jiang Zhuoye as a lead singer in an underground band the lonely and lost Jiang Zhuoye on a journey; the carefree Jiang Zhuoye acting in romantic movies…
All the roles, different stories, different lives, all shared the same face.
Su Li recognized the source of many photos, as she had gone back to watch most of Jiang Zhuoye’s works for a period. But there were still many photos she had never seen before, yet she was still moved by the overwhelming emotions and scenes.
She leaned in to look at them one by one. As she looked, she found herself tearing up. They were all so beautiful, so touching, but the thought that this was all prepared just for her made her want to cry.
There was no one else in the room; even the round-faced girl stayed outside, blocking many passersby who wanted to enter. Su Li knew this was all for her, done by Jiang Zhuoye.
The walls were also made of giant candies, large slabs of chocolate, and balloons. Jiang Zhuoye’s photos floated gently across them. It was all too dreamlike. Su Li slowed her steps, afraid she might shatter this dream.
She walked out of the two rooms. The left room had Jiang Zhuoye’s photos, while the right room featured famous lines from Jiang Zhuoye’s works. Various sentences were written down, with the movie or TV show title underneath.
Jiang Zhuoye’s status as a national goddess was unshakable. Many of her works contained golden quotes, and a large portion of these quotes described love.
Su Li read many of them, and her heart swelled the more she read. She could relate to some of these sentences, while others, about tragic love or grand eras, she couldn’t fully grasp. Yet, she understood Jiang Zhuoye’s intention.
It was a confession, a confession delivered through such a magnificent and beautiful arrangement.
Su Li slowly walked across the red carpet, carefully reading every word on the papers. After she had finished reading all the sentences, she finally found the exit.
The exit was a small door shaped entirely like a piece of chocolate, and the doorknob was even made of real chocolate.
A piece of paper was hanging on the doorknob. The handwriting was different from the golden quotes she’d just read it was delicate yet firm.
“I give you the thousand lives I’ve lived, along with a thousand loves and hopes.”
The tears Su Li had been holding back finally couldn’t be contained and pat-a-pat-ed onto the floor.
She turned the chocolate doorknob, and amidst the bittersweet scent of chocolate, she saw the scene behind the door.
Jiang Zhuoye, wearing a long red dress and holding a bouquet of red roses, smiled at her.
Su Li stood frozen.
Jiang Zhuoye suddenly knelt on one knee, presented the bouquet to Su Li, and said very earnestly:
“I never dreamed that I could meet someone as wonderful as you. I love you, so, will you be my girlfriend?”
Tears streamed down Su Li’s face. She burst into a tearful smile, carefully accepted the bouquet of roses, and nodded repeatedly through her laughter:
“Yes! I will!”
Tears filled the corners of Jiang Zhuoye’s eyes too. She stood up and hugged Su Li, holding her so tightly:
“Since you’ve agreed, you can’t run away anymore. I want to be with you for the rest of my life.”
