The Mad/Beautiful Movie Queen Heard My Inner Voice After Losing Her Memory - Chapter 24
Chapter 24
“Wen-chen, why are you silent?”
The woman on the other end of the line, having heard no response for a long while, added considerately, “If you are still angry with me, then don’t come to pick me up. I’ll explain everything when I get back…”
The way she phrased it made it so that even if Fu Wenchen didn’t pick her up, she couldn’t escape the implication.
Yu Guiyao watched with a look of curiosity, dying to know the relationship between this stranger and Fu Wenchen. Was this the legendary Gu Ruoqin? Was she Fu Wenchen’s true “White Moonlight”? If so, what was Fu Qingdu? Hadn’t Fu Wenchen repeatedly proclaimed her love for her?
As these thoughts swirled, she looked at the woman beside her to see how she would respond.
To her surprise, Fu Wenchen’s face had darkened. Her eyes held a flickering coldness that made one’s heart chill. Since Yu Guiyao had met her, she had never seen her make such an expression; it was a look of pure loathing.
“I told you long ago to put away your disgusting act,” Fu Wenchen said to the phone, enunciating every word. “Do you still not understand?”
“What I said seven years ago was: if you dared to return, be prepared to give back everything that doesn’t belong to you. Otherwise, I will never let you off.”
Her words were fierce and ruthless, revealing a side of her Yu Guiyao had never seen.
Yu Guiyao was stunned. Before she could react, Fu Wenchen decisively hung up and blocked the number.
When Fu Wenchen looked up, the icy mask was gone. Her eyes were filled with tears. She instantly threw her arms around Yu Guiyao’s waist, burying her face in her chest.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered. “I shouldn’t have let you see me like that…”
“But sometimes, people in the entertainment industry are so despicable that I’m forced to wear another face to deal with them.”
As she spoke, her body trembled slightly. It wasn’t hard to imagine how much she had suffered while clawing her way up through the industry all these years. Yu Guiyao’s heart softened instantly, and she reached out to pat the woman’s shoulder.
Then, Fu Wenchen looked up again. She pulled up the trending topics on her phone and showed them to her, her voice trembling. “Look. All it takes is a little hint from certain people, and public opinion shifts instantly.”
As she said this, her eyelashes were wet, her eyes brimming with tears, and her face looked pale and helpless.
Seeing her like this, Yu Guiyao felt an immediate bias. When she looked at the trending search, her anger flared. The number one trending topic was: #Gu Ruoqin Returns to China#.
At the top of the search was a photo posted by Gu Ruoqin herself. In the photo, she was standing outside an international airport in a long trench coat and sunglasses, holding a suitcase. She had bright red lips and a beautiful smile—she looked elegant and stunning. The caption read: [Arrived too late last night, so I found a hotel near the airport for the night. So happy to finally be home.]
However, Yu Guiyao noticed that the comment section had gone completely off the rails.
“OMG, sisters, look! Is that a nightgown under Gu Ruoqin’s coat?! It’s the same style as the one in Wenchen’s photo! Identical! My ship is real!”
“And her hair—it’s just like the person in that photo: straight and black.”
“Is no one going to praise Ruoqin? I still hear rumors about that accident seven years ago. I’m so glad she finally conquered her fear and came back!”
“They’re finally together. A happy ending for the lovers. Congratulations!”
“Is this the first time Gu Ruoqin has posted a photo? There were none online before. She’s gorgeous! A perfect match for Wenchen!”
“I heard she’s back after getting her doctorate from a famous music conservatory. That’s incredible!”
OUGG Official: “That’s right, those are our pajamas!”
…
The more Yu Guiyao read, the angrier she got.
Seeing her frowning, Fu Wenchen secretly curled her lips. She asked softly, “What’s wrong? Are you unhappy that someone else is claiming your spot and letting netizens misunderstand?”
“Or… are you jealous?”
She leaned her cheek against Yu Guiyao’s shoulder, rubbing like a cat, her face flushing slightly.
Yu Guiyao, completely oblivious, just fumed: “No! I’m mad at this merchant for claiming the pajamas. My pajamas were clearly from a street stall! If I had stocked up to sell them back then, I could have made a fortune off this hype!”
Fu Wenchen: “…” She’s still obsessed with selling pajamas?!
Annoyed, she countered: “The woman in the photo is wearing OUGG pajamas. But what I want you to know is that someone can steal your place and manipulate the narrative with just a simple hint. Doesn’t that make you angry?!”
Yu Guiyao thought about it and nodded. “Mhm, I guess it does make me a little mad.”
Fu Wenchen: “…” Why can’t I get through to her!
She breathed heavily in frustration. She couldn’t see a hint of jealousy in the other woman, only a sense of silliness and density. Finally, she had to comfort herself. Forget it, it hasn’t been that long. I can’t expect her to be completely in love with me yet…
She hugged Yu Guiyao’s waist, leaning her head on her shoulder, tears looking as if they were about to fall. She seemed utterly aggrieved.
Seeing her this way made Yu Guiyao feel a bit stifled. She asked cautiously, “Are you trying to tell me that the person who just called you was Gu Ruoqin, and she’s hinting to netizens that she’s the person you went public with? You want to say…”
“Yes! I’m saying she’s doing it on purpose. Don’t believe her!” Fu Wenchen cut her off, wrapping her arms around her neck. She said softly, “Carry me to the swing…”
“Okay.” Yu Guiyao did as requested, picking her up horizontally and walking toward the swing under the tree.
Peach blossoms drifted down onto their hair. She placed Fu Wenchen on the swing and knelt before her to gently pick the petals out of her hair. Finally, she couldn’t resist asking:
“Isn’t she your childhood friend? Your parents just want you to find a girlfriend. Isn’t it better now that she’s back? Even the netizens think you’re a good match. Maybe…”
Maybe you don’t need me…
The rest of her words were swallowed as Fu Wenchen angrily grabbed her collar and kissed her. She bit her lip—a sharp nip from an angry cat—but she couldn’t bring herself to use full force. It left a tingling, numbing sensation that made Yu Guiyao’s heart skip a beat.
Their breaths intertwined, hot and heavy.
Yu Guiyao immediately took a step back, landing on her butt on the grass. Blushing, she covered her lips and stammered, “That… I’ll go buy the medicine first. You wait here.”
Watching her flee, Fu Wenchen grew even angrier. She called out with a trembling voice, “I told you, I want to forget everything from the past! I only like you now!”
Yu Guiyao heard her, and her ears turned crimson. But could the past be forgotten just like that? Could a past love be turned off like a switch?
As she ran toward the health clinic, she couldn’t help searching online for who Gu Ruoqin actually was. She had never heard of her or seen her in the industry, yet the woman had over thirty million followers. It was baffling.
When Yu Guiyao actually found the basic profile, she was shocked. This was a “Red Third Generation”! Her grandfather was a founding father of the country; her father died in the line of duty during an anti-crime sweep in 2014.
And Gu Ruoqin was said to be a genius. With just a few clues from a crime scene, she could accurately profile a suspect’s characteristics or even draw their portrait. In 2013, at age 16, she was exceptionally admitted to the People’s Public Security University of China. She didn’t go, choosing to finish high school normally. During that time, without even looking at official files, she helped capture numerous first-grade criminals just by collecting clues on her own.
In 2015, a sudden kidnapping involved Gu Ruoqin and her twin sister, Gu Nianzhi. Her sister died tragically in a fire, while she suffered from PTSD and went abroad for treatment, eventually switching her studies to music.
She was essentially a perfect person with a tragic story.
For some reason, Yu Guiyao felt that the Gu Ruoqin in the photo looked familiar. Looking closer… didn’t she look a bit like herself?!
Must be an illusion, she thought, shaking her head. But then a conspiracy theory sprouted in her mind. Am I a body double? A substitute? Otherwise, why would Fu Wenchen be so good to her out of nowhere and claim to like her after only two days? It was all too coincidental.
But she quickly dismissed it. Fu Wenchen hadn’t even said she’d been in a relationship with Gu Ruoqin, and she seemed to dislike the woman. To judge her based on netizen gossip would be too hurtful. After all, Fu Wenchen’s soul was fragile—with a Blackening Value of 89, any higher and she might actually kill someone. Even as a Best Actress winner, she was hated by her family and stuck in the dark entertainment industry. She was so pitiful and helpless.
She couldn’t provoke her too much.
Yu Guiyao ruminated while getting a doctor to prescribe medicine. To be honest, she was embarrassed to buy this kind of medicine. Luckily, the doctor was a woman who explained the treatment in detail; otherwise, she wouldn’t have known how complicated it was.
When she brought the medicine back, Fu Wenchen was sitting on the swing, seemingly having regained her composure. She curled her lips slightly and asked, “Well? What did you buy?”
Blushing, Yu Guiyao had to explain them one by one.
“This one… a cleansing lotion for itching and redness. If the skin is broken, use a wet compress two or three times a day. If it’s not broken, just apply it to the swollen area…”
“What if it itches or hurts inside?” Fu Wenchen interrupted. Her gaze was incredibly innocent and pitiful as she whispered, “I don’t know how; it’s too complicated. You help me. You said you’d take responsibility for me~”
Yu Guiyao’s ears turned red instantly. With trembling hands, she pulled an irrigator out of the bag and continued, “If it’s uncomfortable inside, use the irrigator to deliver a 10% solution for a deep wash, once a day…”
“Okay, then hurry up,” Fu Wenchen urged. She looked at her deeply, her eyes sparkling like starlight. The teardrop mole at the corner of her eye made her look both pure and seductive. She grabbed Yu Guiyao’s sleeve, pulling her close, and softened her voice: “Is there anything else? Just a wash?”
“Oh, and,” Yu Guiyao immediately pulled out another box of tablets, “If it really hurts, you have to use a finger-check method to insert the anti-inflammatory tablets deep inside…”
At this point, she tried to change the subject in embarrassment: “Or you could just take oral medication, that works too…”
“No,” Fu Wenchen interrupted. “All medicine has some toxicity. I want the external one. You put it in for me…”
She looked up at her, refusing to let go of her sleeve. “It hurts a lot right now. Hurry up. Or just help me here on the swing…”
“The swing?” Yu Guiyao was stunned, her blush reaching her neck. “You mean… on the swing?!”
Even if no one else could come here, they couldn’t do this out in the open!
As she hesitated, Fu Wenchen suddenly tapped on her phone. A moment later, Yu Guiyao received a text notification: 60,000 yuan had been deposited into her account.
“!!!” You can’t just bribe people like this!
Fu Wenchen smiled at her. “It only takes a few minutes. What are you afraid of? It’s just a serious application of medicine.”
Hearing this, Yu Guiyao’s internal scales tipped. It was true—she was the one who caused the injury. Why was she being so fussy? The other woman wasn’t even asking for compensation, just for help with the medicine.
With that thought, she knelt down, preparing to help.
But Fu Wenchen suddenly stood up and said, “You sit on the swing first.”
“Huh?” Yu Guiyao was confused, then blushed again. Is she going to sit while I stand?
Despite her embarrassment, she was pushed onto the swing by Fu Wenchen. As she sat down, Fu Wenchen grabbed the ropes on either side, straddled her, and sat in her lap. Her slender white legs wrapped around Yu Guiyao’s waist, and her arms went around her neck.
Yu Guiyao’s feet were planted on the grass to steady the swing, but the bells on the swing still jingled.
Then, Fu Wenchen lifted her waist slightly, grabbed Yu Guiyao’s hand, and said with a flushed face: “You can start now…”
Her voice was soft and husky. She guided Yu Guiyao’s hand under her shirt to the injured area. Yu Guiyao realized then that the short pajama pants and that triangle of fabric were nowhere to be seen. She was only wearing a shirt.
In her rush to explain the medicine, she hadn’t noticed that the other woman was already “ready.”
Blushing and with a trembling voice, Yu Guiyao whispered, “First… let me put on gloves…”
