The Lost Omega Heiress is Pregnant with My Child - Chapter 49
Can you give me another chance?
Shen Tingxue was so agitated that she couldn’t control the pheromones leaking from her. As the Alpha who had temporarily marked Shen Tingxue, Shi Anzhi could sense the unease in the bitter pear scent.
Such a physiological reaction couldn’t be faked, could it?
Shi Anzhi grabbed Shen Tingxue’s wrist, her grip a little too tight. She quickly let go, but a red mark was already left on Shen Tingxue’s skin.
How frustrating.
After uttering those words, Shen Tingxue seemed to lose all strength and remained motionless.
Silence fell between them.
Shi Anzhi recalled how, back in the Special Zone, Shen Tingxue had said something similar. She was accustomed to using sex as compensation, using physical submission to evade other issues.
Was she trying the same trick again, this time with the half-truth of a child as leverage?
Shi Anzhi lowered her gaze, reining in her emotions.
She spoke as calmly as she could, “How could I dare to trust you so easily again?”
“You rushed over, grabbed my hand, and told me you were pregnant. At that moment, did you truly believe you were pregnant and wanted to share the news with me, or…”
“Was it just a lie you came up with in the heat of the moment?”
Shen Tingxue’s breath hitched.
She hated being questioned like this.
Sensing Shen Tingxue’s retreat, Shi Anzhi took a step forward. “Are your current symptoms due to actual pregnancy, or are they side effects of the rabbit fertility drug?”
“If you want my forgiveness, shouldn’t you be more honest?”
“Beyond this, I need to know everything your plans, your engagement, what you intended to do with my pheromones before, why you took the rabbit fertility drug, and why you’ve come to R District now.”
Seeing Shen Tingxue’s face grow increasingly ashen, Shi Anzhi felt that asking these questions was futile. “If you can’t do that, then don’t say you’re willing to do anything. I won’t be the fool kept in the dark by you anymore.”
The barrage of questions struck Shen Tingxue’s heart.
She felt as if she had been stripped bare, standing naked before a judgment seat, with all her flaws exposed.
How could she explain the rabbit fertility drug, how could she explain her initial motives? Even she found her own actions bizarre.
Time dragged on painfully. From the string of questions, Shen Tingxue answered the one that made her feel the most wronged. “I, I can’t remember why I took the rabbit fertility drug either.”
She suppressed her voice, trying to keep it from trembling with tears. “I was so scared back then. I was afraid you would leave with someone else. I would have gone insane if that happened.”
She had watched the interactions between the Chief of Staff and his wife and found them so warm. Later, when she told Shi Anzhi she was pregnant, Shi Anzhi had genuinely been happy because of the child.
Suddenly, her lower abdomen twitched. Was the baby moving?
Could the baby sense its mothers arguing? Shen Tingxue was suddenly overwhelmed with shame and instinctively shifted into a defensive state.
She wiped away her tears and smiled bitterly. “If I were really pregnant, would you not say you don’t love me anymore?”
“Would you come back to me?”
Just because of the child? Shen Tingxue felt lost. If Shi Anzhi decided to love her again only because she was pregnant, was it the child Shi Anzhi cared about, or was it her?
Shen Tingxue looked directly at Shi Anzhi. Given the situation, she decided to voice the question that had been troubling her. “Compared to me, do you prefer that obedient, clueless fool in R District, Nian Xue?”
Nian Xue.
Shen Tingxue thought in a daze. Nian Nian was her childhood nickname, something her mother had only called her when she was very young, and “xue” was the last character of her given name. Shi Anzhi had combined these two characters to construct a part of her identity.
Nian Xue was not Shen Tingxue.
Shi Anzhi frowned, as if something had sliced through her muddled thoughts. She truly loved Nian Xue deeply most of her beautiful memories were tied to Nian Xue. If she had to compare, Shen Tingxue seemed to be the one draining her affection.
Because of Nian Xue, she had tolerated Shen Tingxue’s deceit and humiliation in the past, unable to separate her from the deeply cherished Nian Xue.
But wasn’t Nian Xue just Shen Tingxue?
Shi Anzhi hadn’t thought this was such a complicated question before.
Seeing the flicker of confusion on Shi Anzhi’s face, Shen Tingxue felt a surge of pain in her heart. Shi Anzhi did care after all. She really did prefer that foolish Nian Xue.
Shi Anzhi let out a soft laugh, finding it somewhat absurd. She looked at the Omega before her Shen Tingxue’s question had actually stirred up some of her own doubts.
Instead of backing down, she threw the question back. “Actually, wasn’t it Nian Xue who liked me? As Shen Tingxue, you looked down on my background and despised my gland disability.”
“You thought it was something that needed to be cured.”
“So why did you need my pheromones later?”
Even though she had already heard it from He Rui and witnessed part of it herself, she still wanted to hear the truth from Shen Tingxue. Was there some hardship she wasn’t aware of?
The tension in the room grew sharper. The two stared at each other, and Shen Tingxue slightly parted her lips, unsure of what to say or where to begin.
Suddenly, the door to the medical room was knocked. Without waiting for a response, it was pushed open from the outside.
It was Teng Ying.
As soon as she entered, Teng Ying saw Shen Tingxue turn her tear-streaked face away. Shi Anzhi was frowning slightly, and the atmosphere was heavy.
But Teng Ying didn’t care.
She walked in carrying a bowl of dark, murky medicinal soup, acting as if she hadn’t noticed the tension in the room at all.
“Finished arguing?”
Teng Ying placed the bowl on the bedside table. “Drink this first.”
Shen Tingxue turned her head and glanced at the suspicious-looking liquid, her delicate brows furrowing slightly.
“What is this?” she asked Teng Ying.
“Calming soup. I specially brewed it.”
Teng Ying crossed her arms and leaned against the wall, her eyes shifting between Shi Anzhi and Shen Tingxue as if watching a good show.
“You look like you’re on the verge of collapse your mental state is too unstable. Drink this, and it’ll help you sleep well.”
Teng Ying had always been blunt with her words, and Shen Tingxue knew that. She sniffed the soup and detected no suspicious ingredients; one of the herbs was even known for its sleep-inducing properties.
Shen Tingxue hadn’t had a good night’s sleep in a long time, so she drank it.
Seeing that Shen Tingxue had finished, Teng Ying took the bowl and prepared to leave.
Unexpectedly, Shi Anzhi followed her out.
Shen Tingxue felt a pang of sadness at the sight but couldn’t bring herself to ask her to stay. Shi Anzhi’s earlier questioning had left her at a loss for how to appease her.
After walking a short distance, Teng Ying finally turned to Shi Anzhi and asked, “What, tired of arguing?”
Shi Anzhi said wearily, “It’s nothing.”
She understood clearly how things stood in her heart, yet Shen Tingxue couldn’t even manage to be honest.
Teng Ying sighed, “She wants your pheromones, doesn’t she?”
Shi Anzhi was startled. She had never revealed to Teng Ying that her pheromones were special. According to He Rui, her pheromones seemed to have a calming effect on agitated Alphas.
The memories of that day were both painful and hazy. Shi Anzhi didn’t want to dwell on them too much. She had wondered whether Ji Tianheng’s desire to recruit her into the company was related to her pheromones.
“How did you know?”
Teng Ying said calmly, “I just analyzed her hormone levels. They’re terrible. Her progesterone is at an extremely unstable critical value, which indicates the fetus’s development isn’t optimistic.”
“I don’t know much about obstetrics and gynecology, but if she’s really pregnant, she should desperately need an Alpha’s pheromones for comfort, right?”
“Then think about how long you’ve been apart. It would be strange if she weren’t going crazy missing you and didn’t come running to District R.”
Shi Anzhi collected herself. So that was what Teng Ying meant.
“Right now, I’m not even sure if she’s really pregnant.”
Teng Ying narrowed her eyes and suddenly thought, “She has pheromone dysregulation syndrome now, compounded by the hormonal instability of early pregnancy. Hiss, if she had taken anti-pregnancy drugs before, and if she really is pregnant, could she miscarry immediately?”
Shi Anzhi’s pupils contracted sharply. “What did you say?”
Seeing Shi Anzhi’s grim expression, Teng Ying shrugged. “It’s really possible. I don’t know much about obstetrics and gynecology. If she miscarries here, that would be troublesome.”
“I can’t handle that.”
Shi Anzhi felt irritated. “Stop talking nonsense.”
Teng Ying fell silent.
She reminded her, “Anyway, you need to give her your calming pheromones. Whether there’s a child or not, her body is in chaos right now.”
“I know…”
Seeing that Shi Anzhi was in a bad mood and not wanting to provoke her further, Teng Ying took the medicine bowl and went to the kitchen to find Ning Yuyou.
Shi Anzhi stayed alone outside the medical room for a long time, lost in thought, yet it seemed as if she weren’t thinking about anything at all.
Shen Tingxue had come to District R with their baby to find her. Though the truth of the matter was still uncertain, the very idea had already unsettled her.
There were simply too many issues between them. Was it even possible to hope for something real?
By the time Shi Anzhi re-entered the medical room, Shen Tingxue had already fallen asleep.
Her body was still weak, and after the earlier emotional turmoil, a bowl of calming soup had sent her into a deep, comatose-like sleep.
This time, she slept soundly, without any dreams.
Shi Anzhi saw Shen Tingxue curled up on the bed, the blanket having slipped down to her waist, revealing her slender back.
Shi Anzhi gazed at Shen Tingxue’s sleeping face, a face she had kissed and caressed countless times.
She reached out and pulled the blanket up for her. For a moment, she admitted to herself that she couldn’t bring herself to drive out such a vulnerable Shen Tingxue.
Shi Anzhi sighed inwardly and began to release her pheromones.
The scent spread silently through the room. Unlike the pheromones of other Alphas, it wasn’t aggressive. It was gentle, inclusive, like the boundless depths of the ocean.
Shi Anzhi controlled the concentration of her pheromones.
In her sleep, Shen Tingxue unconsciously turned over, facing the direction from which the pheromones emanated. She let out a contented, soft hum, like a little cat.
Shi Anzhi watched Shen Tingxue’s reaction, her heart a turbulent mix of emotions.
Was this the unbreakable bond between them? Even through lies and betrayal, Shen Tingxue’s body still yearned for her with such raw honesty.
Outside the window, the deep blue of the night gradually gave way to the pale light of dawn.
Shi Anzhi had dozed off briefly by the bedside. As daylight slowly brightened the room, she withdrew her pheromones after having released them for so long, a dull ache spreading through her glands.
The morning light filtered through the window, casting a warm glow on Shen Tingxue’s face.
Once the effects of the medication wore off, Shen Tingxue awoke.
She had slept deeply, free from nightmares, wrapped in the comforting embrace of Shi Anzhi’s soothing pheromones like the softness of goose down. It felt so comforting.
Shi Anzhi’s pheromones had calmed her chaotic glands.
She brought a hand to the back of her neck, where the lingering sensation of the pheromones left a tingling numbness, making her heart flutter with an inexplicable itch.
Maybe things weren’t as bad as they seemed.
After spending the night like this, when their eyes met, both of them felt a sense of calm.
Shen Tingxue smiled at Shi Anzhi, a hint of shyness in her expression. “I missed you so much everywhere.”
Shi Anzhi was momentarily taken aback by this sudden shift, but then she realized Shen Tingxue was probably trying to gloss things over with fleeting tenderness again.
She didn’t respond to the ambiguous remark, steering the conversation back to the more serious issue from the day before.
“Tell me the truth.”
Shi Anzhi looked directly into Shen Tingxue’s eyes. “Are you really pregnant?”
Shen Tingxue’s eyelashes fluttered, half of her earlier good mood evaporating. She had already said it, why couldn’t Shi Anzhi believe her? She kept asking, over and over. And the moment she woke up, this was all she cared about.
Shen Tingxue’s smile faded. She didn’t want Shi Anzhi to accept her just because of a child. Did she, Shen Tingxue, really have to stoop so low as to use a baby to bind an Alpha’s pity-driven affection?
She wanted Shi Anzhi’s pure love, love that would embrace her regardless of whether she was pregnant, what her status was, or what her past held. Love that was meant for her and her alone.
Shen Tingxue lowered her gaze, her voice as light as a sigh. “I did take rabbit pregnancy suppressants. Many of the symptoms I’m experiencing now are side effects from them. You don’t even need to punish me, I’m already suffering the consequences of my own actions.”
“Anzhi, does it really matter whether I’m pregnant or not?”
Shen Tingxue felt lost. She didn’t want Shi Anzhi’s pity just because she might have a child.
“I missed you that’s the truth.”
Tears welled up once more in her amber eyes, but Shen Tingxue stubbornly refused to let them fall.
She fixed her gaze on Shi Anzhi. “Every single day and night in the Special Zone, I thought of you. I missed the winds of District R, our leaky little hut, and the comforting scent you carry.”
Before she could finish, a tear escaped and landed on the back of Shi Anzhi’s hand.
The scalding drops startled Shi Anzhi, leaving her momentarily stunned.
Shen Tingxue continued, striving to be as honest as she could. “I realized, I love you. Not just as Nian Xue, but as Shen Tingxue, I love you.”
“So, Shi Anzhi.”
She clasped Shi Anzhi’s tear-stained hand, her voice trembling with plea. “Can you give me another chance?”
