The Lost Omega Heiress is Pregnant with My Child - Chapter 47
Our baby misses you so much.
The first few days back in District R passed with an unnerving tranquility for Shi Anzhi so calm it felt almost surreal.
Everything that had happened in the Special Zone seemed veiled by a hazy mist, growing distant and indistinct.
The weather had been uncooperative lately. Shortly after arriving in District R, before she could even familiarize herself with the new situation, a rare magnetic storm swept across the region.
Along with the magnetic storm came acid rain and acidic fog. The sky took on a sickly yellow-green hue, with thick, heavy clouds pressing low over the city.
It was a scene straight out of an apocalypse.
Under such extreme weather conditions, most residents of District R chose to stay indoors. The streets were deserted, with only the rustling sound of wind-blown trash breaking the silence.
Teng Ying’s villa, nestled on the mountainside in the northern part of District R, became their refuge. The previous owner had built it as a shelter during turbulent times, so the structure was exceptionally sturdy and the interior relatively livable.
During this period, the supplies arranged by Ji Tianheng arrived. With no way to venture outside, the three of them took the opportunity to organize their resources.
Being confined indoors unexpectedly gave Ning Yuyou a chance to integrate. Shi Anzhi had been somewhat listless lately, so Ning Yuyou took it upon herself to report recent unusual developments to Ji Tianheng.
When she mentioned the spam messages from the maternity store, Ning Yuyou had a vague suspicion. She had heard gossip from her colleagues in the security team about Shi Anzhi’s past relationship with the eldest daughter of the Shen family. But pregnancy?
Could it be that Shen Tingxue was pregnant?
Ji Tianheng had forbidden his subordinates from discussing the matter privately, so Ning Yuyou only had a fuzzy understanding. The last time she spoke with Ji Tianheng, he hadn’t mentioned anything about it.
After connecting with Ji Tianheng mentally, he responded quickly with clear instructions:
[The Governor’s Office has approved the Shen family’s request to station personnel in District R. If Shen Tingxue goes there personally, you must prevent them from having excessive contact.]
Ning Yuyou felt a subtle unease.
[Understood.]
Currently, Shi Anzhi treated her with neither warmth nor distance, while Teng Ying remained highly guarded against her. With nothing else to do, Ning Yuyou enjoyed chatting with Teng Ying, relishing the way her irritation showed.
She struck up a casual conversation with Teng Ying. “Dr. Teng, what’s for dinner today?”
Teng Ying retorted impatiently, “I don’t provide meals here. I’m not a cook.”
“I can cook for you. What would you like to eat?”
Teng Ying: …
“Dr. Teng, since there are no patients right now, could you give me a physical exam?”
Teng Ying seized the chance to extort her. “Fifty thousand credits per session. Still interested?”
“Sure.”
Ning Yuyou wasn’t short on money. She smiled playfully at the slightly outdated equipment and teased, “Do I have to take all my clothes off for this?”
Teng Ying’s eyelid twitched, but she replied nonchalantly, “Do you have some kind of special preference? If you want me to look at you, that’ll be an extra twenty thousand credits.”
Ning Yuyou chuckled inwardly. Shi Anzhi tended to be aloof and unresponsive toward people she wasn’t interested in, but Teng Ying always retorted with biting sarcasm and seemed more open to banter.
During these dull moments, Ning Yuyou enjoyed talking to Teng Ying, at least she got a reaction out of her.
“Then I’ll add another twenty thousand. How about giving me a massage, Dr. Teng?”
Teng Ying frowned, annoyed by the Special Zone resident’s casual attitude toward money. “Make it a hundred thousand credits.”
Ning Yuyou still smiled. “Fine by me.”
Teng Ying rolled her eyes in exasperation.
It wasn’t until a week later that the weather finally improved.
The acid rain had stopped, and though the sky remained overcast, at least it was no longer raining corrosive liquid.
That day, Teng Ying drove her off-road vehicle, taking Shi Anzhi and Ning Yuyou out. After being cooped up for so many days, they were practically growing mold.
On the road, Teng Ying wore a hint of excitement on her face. “I’m taking you two to eat something good.”
Their destination was the best revolving restaurant in District R.
As she gazed at the scenery outside the window, Shi Anzhi felt a mix of emotions.
The last time she had visited the revolving restaurant was with Nian Xue, one of their rare dates.
Back then, Nian Xue found everything novel, would cut steak for her, and seemed happy no matter what they did.
She had thought they could be that happy forever.
The revolving restaurant was located on the top floor of a surviving pre-war building, offering a panoramic view of most of District R.
At the moment, the scenery outside wasn’t particularly pleasing to the eye. Under the extreme weather, the gray, decaying buildings resembled blocks of moldy tofu, and the streets were sparsely populated.
Inside the restaurant, however, it was bustling with noise and excitement, forming a stark contrast to the outside.
Teng Ying had always been relatively well-off in District R, and having visited the restaurant frequently lately, many people greeted her as soon as she entered.
She nodded lazily and led Shi Anzhi and Ning Yuyou to a window seat with a good view.
“Try the grilled meat here,” Teng Ying said, pushing the menu over. “It’s made from free-range pigs raised in the agricultural zone. The meat quality is decent at least it’s not synthetic.”
Ning Yuyou curiously flipped through the menu. It was her first time out in days, and she was in high spirits, chattering away with all sorts of questions.
The food arrived quickly. In addition to grilled meat, there was steak, cheesy baked potatoes, pasta made from glowing algae, and some fruit desserts they had ordered almost everything on the menu.
Shi Anzhi, however, was lost in memories and had little appetite.
Ning Yuyou was particularly intrigued by the plate of glowing pasta. She twirled a small forkful and put it in her mouth. “The texture is so unique kind of like chewy jelly?”
Teng Ying chuckled. “That’s a specialty of District R. It’s rich in trace elements. There’s a shop in the southern part of the city that specializes in making this kind of noodle.” As she spoke, she expertly drizzled black pepper sauce over her steak.
Shi Anzhi stared blankly at the plate of pasta, lost in thought.
“Anzhi? Anzhi-jie!”
Ning Yuyou’s voice pulled her out of her reverie.
“Hmm?” Shi Anzhi snapped back to reality and met Ning Yuyou’s gaze.
Ning Yuyou pointed at her barely touched plate. “You don’t seem to have much of an appetite. Is the food not good?”
“No,” Shi Anzhi shook her head and forced a smile. “I was just thinking about something.”
Teng Ying glanced at her, understanding the situation perfectly.
What else could Shi Anzhi be thinking about? Lately, she had been listless probably still nursing a broken heart. They’d have to use their influence to help her recover later.
Teng Ying said to Ning Yuyou, “She’s always like this.”
Ning Yuyou tactfully didn’t press further and turned her attention to Teng Ying instead.
With exaggerated enthusiasm, she remarked, “Teng Ying-jie, your outfit today is so stylish! The black leather jacket with the silver chains, it’s really edgy. Even the fashion shows in the Special Zone aren’t as cool as you.”
Ning Yuyou’s flattery was over-the-top, and Teng Ying was momentarily taken aback by the sudden compliment.
She touched the studs on her jacket, a faint smile appearing at the corner of her eyes. “You’ve got some taste. This is a one-of-a-kind piece I managed to hunt down.”
Ning Yuyou reached out and touched her accessory. “Sister Tengying, take me with you next time.”
The term “Sister Tengying” made Tengying’s skin crawl. “How old are you, calling me sister?”
Ning Yuyou had a cute appearance that made her look young, but with the advanced beauty technology in the Special Zone, Tengying thought cynically, who could really tell?
“I’m 23, probably the youngest among us, right?”
Tengying choked up. She was almost 30, so she indeed deserved to be called “sister.”
Shi Anzhi listened to their sporadic conversation, surprised by the unexpectedly harmonious atmosphere.
The gloom in her heart seemed to ease a little amidst the noise.
She thought, maybe this isn’t so bad after all.
Even without Shen Tingxue, her life still had to go on.
The meal lasted over an hour, and everyone was stuffed.
Before leaving, Ning Yuyou suggested, “Let’s pack some barbecue for Bobo.”
Shi Anzhi was slightly startled, she had been thinking the same thing. She hadn’t expected Ning Yuyou to remember Bobo too. She nodded, a flicker of warmth passing through her heart.
Tengying rolled her eyes. “A mutt doesn’t need to eat that well.”
Despite her words, she still waved for a service robot to bring takeout containers.
When they stepped out of the restaurant, the sky hadn’t yet darkened. They walked toward the off-road vehicle.
Tengying asked, “Heading straight home?”
Shi Anzhi gazed at the cloud-covered streets and remained silent for a moment before replying, “You go ahead. There’s somewhere I want to go.”
Tengying thought for a moment. “The fruit shop?”
Shi Anzhi didn’t deny it.
Sensing the shift in mood, Ning Yuyou said considerately, “Shall we go with you?”
“No need,” Shi Anzhi shook her head. “I’d rather go alone.”
“Fine,” Tengying didn’t press further. “Be careful. Even though no one dares to openly cause trouble for you now, there are plenty of eyes watching in the shadows. Contact me anytime if something happens.”
“Mm.”
Ning Yuyou waved at Shi Anzhi. “We’ll head back first and feed Bobo the barbecue.”
Shi Anzhi smiled at her, then turned and walked in the opposite direction toward the alley where the fruit shop was located.
The alley was just as she remembered potholed pavement, most of the familiar neighbors long gone.
Those who remained kept their doors tightly shut due to the weather, leaving the place unusually quiet.
Shi Anzhi arrived at the familiar spot. The fruit shop could no longer be called a shop, it had become a pile of ruins.
The rolling shutter door had been violently smashed, torn open with large gaps, covered in footprints.
Inside, the checkout counter was overturned, the shelves shattered into pieces. Wood splinters mingled with long-rotten fruit, emitting a foul odor.
The second-floor windows were broken, and the wind whistled through the empty frames.
Shi Anzhi stayed on the first floor, afraid that going upstairs would trigger memories of Nian Xue and reopen deeper wounds.
When she first leased the shop, she had just moved out of the basement, using all her savings to paint the walls and assemble the shelves herself, slowly building a home.
This place had once held all her warmth, but now everything was gone.
Shi Anzhi crouched down and picked up a fragment of a terracotta flowerpot from the debris.
It was the pot where she had grown mint Nian Xue loved the scent and would always lean in to smell it.
Dried soil still clung to the fragment. Shi Anzhi gently rubbed it with her fingertips, as if she could still feel the lingering warmth of life.
A dull ache throbbed in her chest.
She thought she had grown numb, that she could look back on the past indifferently. But standing here now, the emotions she had forcibly suppressed surged forth.
Was it regret? Shi Anzhi stared for a long while, comforting herself, it didn’t matter. She would make everyone who had wrecked her home pay the price.
She was still young, still alive, with plenty of opportunities ahead.
Shi Anzhi made a firm resolution: she would have a better life.
By the time she returned to Teng Ying’s villa, the sky had completely darkened.
“You’re back?”
Teng Ying was tinkering with some equipment and glanced up at her. “I thought you were planning to stay there overnight.”
Shi Anzhi didn’t respond, taking a seat on the sofa opposite her.
Teng Ying set down her tools, removed her gloves, and poured herself a glass of fruit wine.
“That Ning Yuyou is like a walking surveillance camera, sticking to us every day. I bet she’s sent by Ji Tianheng to keep an eye on you.”
Shi Anzhi replied, “She is.”
Noticing that Teng Ying had softened her attitude toward Ning Yuyou lately, she added, “You seem to be enjoying it, though?”
“Just playing along,” Teng Ying said, fiddling with her nails. “She’s going to be following us for a while longer. What else can I do?”
After a pause, she sighed softly. “Ah, we really need to earn more money and get neural implants installed in the Special Zone. Then we could talk secretly in our minds let’s see how she monitors that.”
Shi Anzhi chuckled at her words. “Didn’t you just make a fortune from the war? Go ahead and do it.”
“That little bit of money isn’t nearly enough,” Teng Ying lamented. “Neural interface surgeries in the Special Zone are ridiculously expensive now. Besides, I have a lot of people to support.”
She then circled back to Ning Yuyou. “But you know, Ning Yuyou is quite capable. It’s hard to dislike her.”
“Earlier, when I was calibrating this scanner, one of the transmission modules malfunctioned. She pinpointed the problem in no time.”
Teng Ying pointed to the circuit board on the side of the scanner. “She said she minored in precision instrument repair back in the Guard. Her skills are quite professional she just hasn’t done this kind of work in a while. She cut her hand while cleaning the circuit connectors.”
Only then did Shi Anzhi remember that Ning Yuyou had a bandage on her left hand when she returned.
“Was it serious?”
“It’ll heal in about a week. She can’t get it wet,” Teng Ying said, waving a hand dismissively. “It’s fine, I already treated it for her.”
Shi Anzhi felt relieved.
Teng Ying took another sip of her drink and suddenly grew serious. “On to business while you were away, I got word from my informant. The Governor’s Mansion plans to involve the Shen family in District R’s affairs.”
Shi Anzhi’s expression instantly darkened.
“Under the guise of humanitarian aid, the Governor wants the Shen family to establish a large public medical center in District R. They claim it’s to provide basic healthcare, but who knows what they’re really up to.”
Teng Ying sneered. “They’re trying to cut off my revenue stream. The Governor probably can’t sit still with District R in chaos now. Well, we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”
Shi Anzhi lowered her gaze, her mind involuntarily drifting to a certain possibility, though she quickly dismissed it.
Noticing her silence, Teng Ying glanced at her.
“What are you worried about? There’s no way Miss Shen would personally come to this godforsaken place like District R, right?”
“What if she does?” Shi Anzhi said expressionlessly.
She no longer wanted to love Shen Tingxue.
Shen Tingxue’s sports car was incredibly fast. After driving for seven hours, Xiaoyu notified her that she had entered Zone R.
Driving from night into day, she was growing tired and slowed down, rolling down the car window.
The familiar scent of dust brushed against her cheeks, rousing her from drowsiness and evoking a morbid sense of familiarity.
Her subordinate’s report echoed in her mind.
[Miss, we’ve preliminarily confirmed Miss Shi’s location in North City, Zone R, the former Sun family’s wartime evacuation point. It’s now occupied by a doctor named Teng Ying. The site has a defense system, and our stealth drones can’t get close.]
[All the data and location information are here.]
Shi Anzhi was indeed with Teng Ying.
Shen Tingxue let out a sigh of relief, feeling she still understood Shi Anzhi.
A flicker of excitement stirred within her, easing the exhaustion of the past few days. She was about to see Shi Anzhi again.
She couldn’t help but imagine their reunion.
She would throw herself into Shi Anzhi’s arms without a second thought, it had been far too long since she last felt Shi Anzhi’s pheromones.
But then what? Shen Tingxue felt a wave of uncertainty. She wanted to tell Shi Anzhi that the child was real. She wanted to cry, to fuss, to act spoiled, to do anything to soften Shi Anzhi’s heart.
Just as her body was about to give out, Shen Tingxue spotted the villa. Her heart raced as she parked the sports car in the shadows of trees a few hundred meters away and cut the engine.
It was already noon, and the weather was slightly better than the day before.
On the lawn outside the villa, Ning Yuyou sat at a small wooden table, assigned by Teng Ying to peel over a dozen apples for an apple pie and apple-braised pork chops.
A medicinal patch still covered the back of her left hand, and she felt somewhat at a loss, listlessly peeling the apples bit by bit.
That heartless Teng Ying, she’d injured her hand helping out, and now she was stuck with this chore.
Shi Anzhi stepped out of the house, tasked by Teng Ying with drying medicinal herbs. Seeing Ning Yuyou’s displeased expression, she walked over, amused.
Watching Ning Yuyou wastefully peel the apples, Shi Anzhi said, “Let me help.”
Hearing this, Ning Yuyou immediately handed over the apple and the fruit knife, her eyes sparkling. “Sister Anzhi, you used to run a fruit shop, right? You must be really good at peeling apples.”
“Not bad.”
Shi Anzhi took the apple and the knife. Her movements were deft, the blade twirling skillfully between her fingers as thin strips of peel spiraled down in neat coils.
It was a beautiful sight.
Ning Yuyou leaned on the small wooden table, propping her head up to watch in admiration.
This was the scene Shen Tingxue encountered when she arrived.
Her steps faltered abruptly. The Alpha she had longed for day and night was bending over, peeling an apple for an unfamiliar Omega girl.
Instantly, Shen Tingxue felt like crying. Had Shi Anzhi already found someone new and abandoned her?
No wonder she’d been blocked.
Jealousy, anger, the pain of being cast aside, all the suppressed emotions erupted at once. After freezing for a few seconds, Shen Tingxue rushed toward Shi Anzhi, who hadn’t yet noticed her.
Under Ning Yuyou’s astonished gaze, she tightly gripped Shi Anzhi’s wrist, the one still holding the fruit knife.
The knife clattered to the ground.
Shi Anzhi looked up in surprise, meeting Shen Tingxue’s gaze.
“Shi Anzhi…”
After the long journey, Shen Tingxue’s hair was disheveled, her once-clear tea-colored eyes now bloodshot, her face as pale as a ghost’s.
Shen Tingxue’s voice trembled, each word forcibly squeezed from her throat, “Shi Anzhi, please don’t leave me.”
“I’m pregnant. The doctor said our baby misses you so much.”
She felt a bit awkward, unwilling to admit she was the one who missed the other, so she attributed it to the baby missing its other mother.
Shi Anzhi stared blankly at Shen Tingxue, feeling as if the entire world had turned absurd.
Between them, it was clearly Shen Tingxue who had given up on their relationship first. Seeing her again brought nothing but pain.
As if scalded by something, Shi Anzhi forcefully pulled her hand back.
She gazed at Shen Tingxue’s flat abdomen, “You!”
“Pregnant again?”
Shen Tingxue was stunned by her words, even forgetting to cry.
What did Shi Anzhi mean?
The next second, Shi Anzhi’s tone grew even more sarcastic, “Can a cripple even get you pregnant?”
