The Lost Omega Heiress is Pregnant with My Child - Chapter 40
Severing Past Ties.
At twenty-five years old, Shi Anzhi’s life underwent earth-shattering changes.
She had experienced the most intense joy, only to be brutally cast into an abyss of eternal suffering.
The aircraft door closed automatically. The design of the Ji family’s aircraft seemed far superior to the Shen family’s once the door shut, all noise was sealed outside.
It was too quiet. Shi Anzhi could hear her own heartbeat, along with the sound of her and Ji Tianheng’s breathing.
The presence of another person reminded her that she was alive, that all of this was truly happening.
Shi Anzhi felt lost about her current situation, equally clueless about where she was headed. Not long ago, the woman before her had invited her to work at Tianheng Industries. Now, this same woman had ruthlessly revealed the truth and taken her away.
And then…?
In the enclosed space, the two remained silent.
For now, Shi Anzhi had no intention of asking anything. She did have many questions, but at this moment, nothing else seemed to matter.
Overwhelmed by pain, all she could manage was to lean her head against the window, watching the Shen family’s laboratory grow smaller and smaller.
Until it disappeared from sight.
She could no longer see Shen Tingxue.
She had come to the Special Zone to cure Ah Xue’s illness. They had promised forever.
The child was fake, the love was fake, it seemed she had nothing left.
Her home in District R was gone, the fruit shop was gone, the mint and saxifrage she had planted with her own hands, along with all the potted plants, had probably long since withered.
Bobo, she only had Bobo left.
She closed her eyes, feeling like a speck of dust floating in boundless darkness, devoid of any concept of time or space, a void.
Even thinking had become a burden.
If she were to fall asleep forever like this, would the pain finally stop?
She allowed herself to sink into the emptiness. It was quiet here no pain, no futile expectations, just tranquility.
Just fall asleep.
After a while, she seemed to feel something touching her shoulder, and then the shaking grew so intense it felt noisy.
She didn’t want to open her eyes.
A long time later, the sense of commotion completely vanished, and she slipped into absolute stillness as she wished.
When she opened her eyes again, everything was blurry at first. Soft, glowing white circles swayed before her. The surrounding lights seemed dim. As her senses returned, she heard the sound of medical equipment.
So, she was in a hospital.
“You’re awake.”
A familiar woman’s voice sounded beside her.
Shi Anzhi blinked, taking a moment to react before turning her head.
Ji Tianheng had been sitting on a sofa not far from the hospital bed, still wearing the same clothes from the incident. Her posture appeared casual, but the slow, subconscious movement of wanting to stand up betrayed her tension.
She was only in her forties, accustomed to a life of privilege, with little trace of age showing.
Yet, she easily made others feel pressured.
Shi Anzhi looked at Ji Tianheng, and all her memories came flooding back.
She wished she could remember nothing, the pain was too much to bear.
Glancing at the IV tube in the back of her hand, she tried to sit up but found it difficult.
“Did I faint?”
“…Don’t move just yet.”
Ji Tianheng quickly stood and walked to the bedside.
She pressed lightly on Shi Anzhi’s shoulder, signaling for her to lie back, then released her grip almost immediately. “Yes. This is the Ji family’s private hospital.”
To protect certain privacies, the Ji family and key employees of the company would seek medical care at their private hospital. Even if the overall medical standards were not as advanced as the Shen family’s, it was better than having their confidential health information recorded.
She personally poured warm water for Shi Anzhi and placed it on the automatically adjustable bedside table. “The doctor said your body is fine, but your mind has suffered a severe shock. Combined with the frequent physical injuries lately, you need to rest and recuperate for a while.”
Hearing the words “mental shock”. Shi Anzhi felt a bitter ache in her heart.
After waking from the void, she realized her heartache had lessened somewhat. Perhaps it was because pain, when endured too often, would eventually numb and desensitize her.
She was going to leave Shen Tingxue completely, and then she would never feel heartache again.
Shi Anzhi didn’t even glance at the cup of water. Instead, she looked directly at Ji Tianheng, her gaze wary.
“What do you want from me?” she asked.
She had never trusted anyone. Life in the slums had turned her into a cold stone, indifferent to the outside world, and her heart naturally wouldn’t be easily wounded.
It was Shen Tingxue who had melted her, only to hurt her afterward.
Now, having sobered up, she simply couldn’t believe that this arms magnate had gone to such lengths just because she disapproved of the Shen family’s methods.
Seeing Shi Anzhi’s guarded expression, Ji Tianheng felt a pang of sorrow.
Shi Anzhi was good-looking, but she didn’t resemble her much, nor did she look much like Su Lian. Only upon closer inspection could one notice the similarity in their lips.
She had never imagined she would have a child with Su Lian. When she first met Shi Anzhi, she hadn’t given her a second thought.
Back then, she regarded Shi Anzhi as nothing more than a blade of grass, a young Alpha arranged by her subordinates as a performer in a boxing match for her entertainment.
Yet this person turned out to be her daughter.
That feeling of apprehension, like approaching one’s hometown after a long absence, grew stronger and stronger.
When Shi Anzhi fainted, Ji Tianheng experienced a rare moment of panic.
She admitted she had acted somewhat impulsively.
Suddenly learning she had a child, she was not only shocked but also thrown back into the traumatic moments of her youth. During the political turmoil that swept the capital, she had heard the news of Su Lian’s disappearance, and everything she did felt futile.
Overwhelmed by a sense of powerlessness, she harbored resentment for her own helplessness back then, as well as for the Shen family’s appropriation of Su Lian’s patents.
It was only when Shi Anzhi fainted that she realized she was afraid to face her, unable to imagine how they would interact as mother and daughter in the future.
Meeting Shi Anzhi’s gaze, Ji Tianheng, after a long pause, chose a more cautious approach.
She said calmly, “It seems you have some misunderstanding about me.”
“I told you, I admire you.”
“Your performance in the Crucible was outstanding and demonstrated all the qualities I value calm judgment and sharp intuition.”
“The Ji family needs talents like you.”
As she spoke, her demeanor suggested she was genuinely impressed by a rare talent.
Only she knew the complexity of her own emotions.
Listening to her, Shi Anzhi felt that Ji Tianheng was hiding something.
Still, being praised by someone powerful always brought a sense of satisfaction.
Ji Tianheng continued, “So, I hope you’ll stay and join my guard. I want to entrust you with partial command of the guard.”
“You haven’t been in the Special Zone for long and aren’t familiar with it. To help you adapt quickly, I’d like to personally mentor you. Have you ever wondered how the empire’s power games are truly played?”
Ji Tianheng deliberately dangled a hook, hoping to pique Shi Anzhi’s interest before presenting an offer that would be hard for anyone to refuse.
“As long as you wish, money, status, the finest cybernetics, the most powerful weapons, you will have it all. No one will ever humiliate you again.”
“So? You can tell me any need you have.”
These things, unattainable desires for others, were fated for Shi Anzhi.
From the day Ji Tianheng learned of Shi Anzhi’s identity, she knew that Shi Anzhi was destined to inherit everything from the Ji family.
What she needed to do now was to nurture her as much as possible before handing everything over to the heir.
Shi Anzhi listened quietly, her heart stirring slightly.
Of course, these things were tempting.
As she looked at the woman of immense power before her and heard the alluring conditions, she couldn’t help but think of another person.
Shen Tingxue…
How was she now? Was she hurt?
With the laboratory destroyed, she must be heartbroken.
The moment this thought surfaced, Shi Anzhi’s heart began to ache with a dull, throbbing pain.
Even if she didn’t fully understand the political situation in the Special Zone, she had already witnessed the fierce rivalry between the Ji and Shen families.
She no longer loved Shen Tingxue, but the idea of joining the Ji family and attacking the Shen family in the future was something Shi Anzhi couldn’t fully accept just yet.
Besides, she didn’t belong to the Special Zone in the first place.
Shi Anzhi remained silent for a long time, and during this pause, Ji Tianheng waited anxiously for a response.
After what felt like an eternity, Shi Anzhi lifted her gaze.
Ji Tianheng sensed that things weren’t going well.
Sure enough, Shi Anzhi pressed her lips together and said, “Director Ji, thank you for your kindness.”
“But I need some time to think it over.”
Hearing Shi Anzhi address her so formally, Ji Tianheng felt the impulse she had just suppressed flare up again.
She couldn’t imagine Shi Anzhi calling her “Mother,” but she also couldn’t accept the distant formality of “Director Ji.”
Yet, she didn’t let her emotions show.
Their relationship needed time to develop; it couldn’t be rushed.
Ji Tianheng smiled gently. “It’s alright.”
“Take it easy. There’s no need to rush.”
“What you need most right now is to recover your health. Everything else can be discussed later.”
Shi Anzhi looked at Ji Tianheng and gave a slight nod.
The two of them were still strangers. For a moment, silence hung between them.
Ji Tianheng stood awkwardly for a while. There was no point in staying longer; she needed to go somewhere to calm down and think about what to do next.
She turned to leave, gently closing the door behind her and softening her voice as she said, “I’ll go now. Rest well.”
Seeing Ji Tianheng about to leave, Shi Anzhi relaxed her previously tense body.
The door clicked shut softly.
Outside, an assistant immediately approached anxiously and reported, “Director Ji, the Shen family has already filed complaints against us with the Governor’s Office and the Council of Elders. The news media has also broadcast scenes of the aftermath of the guards’ explosion.”
“They’re probably trying to paint us as terrorists.”
Ji Tianheng replied coldly, “Ignore the Governor’s Office and the Council of Elders.”
“As for the news, let’s broadcast more about the Shen family’s own affairs. Let everyone see what the Shen family has been up to all along. How dare they play the victim in front of the public.”
“Yes.”
Ji Tianheng took a deep breath. When her mind couldn’t calm down, she would go to a particular place. Now, she boarded a flying craft and departed.
In the Special Zone’s Rose Park, thousands of rose varieties once bloomed. Thirty years ago, this had been a beloved suburban park for the citizens of the Special Zone. Unfortunately, most of the roses vanished amid the flames of war during the turmoil.
After the unrest subsided, Ji Tianheng took over Rose Park and worked tirelessly to restore its original ecosystem.
In the most scenic spot, she built a tomb for Su Lian, no epitaph, no cenotaph, not even a single character carved on the tombstone.
Su Lian had disappeared, and not even her remains were ever found.
Yet, Ji Tianheng desperately needed a place to speak with Su Lian. Countless cold nights had passed with her alone.
Standing solitary before the tombstone, she gazed at the sea-blue roses, still fresh with dew. The wind rustled past, lifting a few fallen leaves and the hem of her coat, casting a desolate atmosphere over the scene.
After a long while, she reached out and gently stroked the tombstone, as if caressing a lover’s cheek.
“Ah Lian, I miss you so much.”
Her voice trembled with emotion as she spoke. “Were you scared when you found out you were pregnant?”
“I can’t bear to imagine what you went through all alone. Our daughter is alive. She’s grown up now resilient, stubborn, and a little foolish.”
A bitter smile touched her lips. “It’s a shame, though. Only her mouth resembles yours. Her looks don’t really favor me, nor anyone in my family.”
“Maybe she takes after your side of the family? I never had the chance to meet them.”
As she spoke, her throat grew tighter.
“A’Lian, tell me, what should I do now?”
“No one ever taught me how to be a mother. I’m afraid to tell her the truth about her origins, worried she might resent me.”
Resting her forehead against the cold stone, the woman who stirred storms in the Special Zone now seemed vulnerable, gently rubbing the tombstone. “I really miss you. Could you please visit me in my dreams?”
Closing her eyes, she drifted back to her youth.
An afternoon long ago Su Lian leaning against her, flipping through a thick genetic atlas. Sunlight spilled over Su Lian’s soft hair, tickling her slightly.
Those were the happiest days of Ji Tianheng’s life.
Su Lian had been a far nobler and more precious soul than she.
Disgusted by oppression, Su Lian believed the Empire’s existing system was rotten to the core and had always sought to change it. She went missing while protecting Omega equality data.
After her death, the Omega rights movement never regained its momentum.
Ji Tianheng knew she was selfish at heart. She loved Su Lian but lacked her compassionate nature, prioritizing only the interests of her family and social class.
If the stakes were high enough, she could even sacrifice something like when Shen Hong begged her to find his daughter. Despite the feud between their families, driven by substantial gain, she helped locate Shen Tingxue.
And so, fate began to turn.
A long time later, Ji Tianheng finally straightened up. Watching the sea-blue roses sway gently in the breeze, she suddenly spoke.
Anyone hearing her words would have been astonished.
Shedding all traces of her earlier uncertainty, her tone now carried a hint of excitement. “Ah Lian, if our daughter becomes the next Governor, would that make you happy?”
“She’s already more suited for the role than many of the so-called prodigies in the Empire.”
