The Lost Omega Heiress is Pregnant with My Child - Chapter 3
A hint of happiness, what was this feeling?
As a child, Shi Anzhi was often praised for her looks by the caretakers at the orphanage. Combined with the attitudes of the other children, she knew she wasn’t unattractive.
After the orphanage closed down, she lost her shelter, but her face brought her plenty of humiliation.
A disabled Alpha who was somewhat good-looking but posed no threat, it was easy to imagine the kind of filthy insults she’d face when bullied.
Later, she ended up with blood on her hands, and her entire demeanor turned cold. For many years, no one dared to casually comment on her appearance.
Now, suddenly being praised, Shi Anzhi pursed her lips, feeling a little embarrassed.
She changed the subject, responding to only one of the remarks.
“As long as you think it’s delicious.”
The Omega gave a firm “Mm,” her eyes sparkling, and sat back down at the table.
G-11 nutrient supplements could quickly restore one’s condition in a short time. Looking at the Omega’s state, Shi Anzhi could tell the medicine was taking effect.
She was well aware of Teng Ying’s medical skills and pharmaceutical expertise after all, he had saved her from the brink of death. In just a few days, the Omega’s injuries were no longer visible from the outside.
But, even after taking the nutrient supplement, why did the Omega still act like a child? Was this her usual demeanor?
Could she really be, a fool?
Seizing the window while the medicine was still effective, Shi Anzhi asked the Omega, “When I found you, you were lying by the Huai River. Do you remember what happened? Do you know where your home is?”
Hearing this, the Omega blinked.
After thinking for a moment, she pouted unhappily. “Too many.”
“Questions. You.”
Shi Anzhi was taken aback, then laughed. She really had been too impatient.
So she switched to an easier question, starting with something simple. “Do you remember your name?”
The Omega continued to blink. “Xue?”
Her tone suggested she wasn’t even sure herself.
Xue.
Shi Anzhi thought, the Omega really was as pale as snow. On the day they met, she had been wearing a white dress, and even now, she was dressed in a very plain one likely changed into during the surgery performed by Teng Ying.
The Omega thought again, tracing a character shape on the table with her finger, and blurted out, “Nian Nian.”
Shi Anzhi blinked slightly, studying the strokes. “Nian Nian? Is that your nickname?”
Xue. Nian Nian. Shi Anzhi smiled. “Then, for now, I’ll call you Nian Xue, alright? You can tell me your real name when you remember it.”
The Omega gave a firm “Mm” and smiled at Shi Anzhi.
“What about yours?” she asked.
Only then did Shi Anzhi realize she hadn’t told the Omega her name. “I’m Shi Anzhi.”
Mimicking the Omega, she also traced the characters on the table.
The Omega watched Shi Anzhi’s moving fingers intently, then shyly pronounced the words. “Shi Anzhi.”
Shi Anzhi thought the Omega in front of her was so, so well-behaved.
She smiled.
Suddenly, her gaze sharpened as she remembered something.
When she found the Omega by the river, she had been wearing a string of pearls around her neck. Shi Anzhi remembered clearly, the necklace looked incredibly expensive, a stark contrast to her mud-stained white dress.
But now, Nian Xue’s smooth, slender neck was bare.
Shi Anzhi’s heart sank.
She tried to ask as naturally as possible, “A-Xue, where is your necklace?”
Omega tilted her head, her amber eyes filled with confusion as she failed to grasp what Alpha was saying.
She instinctively touched her neck, finding nothing there.
“Necklace?”
She repeated the word, her expression one of pure bewilderment.
“What is that?”
Shi Anzhi observed the Omega’s completely innocent demeanor and reached a conclusion.
The situation wasn’t good.
After taking the G-11 nutrient supplement herself, she could enter combat mode and reach peak mental acuity yet Nian Xue remained just as clueless even after taking it. Unless Nian Xue was naturally simple-minded, she must have been severely injured.
As for the necklace, Teng Ying was the one who had primary contact with the Omega.
She didn’t press further, silently clearing the dishes instead.
That necklace might be the only clue to the Omega’s identity, it seemed she had to get to the bottom of this.
The rain grew heavier, drumming against the roof, and from a corner came the familiar sound of dripping.
Shi Anzhi sighed, placing a plastic basin under the new leak.
Looking at Nian Xue, who knew nothing and simply gazed at her with innocent wide eyes, she clearly felt that what she had brought home was a heavy responsibility, an Omega she needed to protect.
The night had deepened.
Outside, the rain sounded as if it would drown the whole world. The basin quickly collected a shallow layer of water.
After washing the dishes, Shi Anzhi brought out a quilt and pillow from the bedroom and placed them on the living room sofa.
This would be her bed for the night.
The Omega had been sitting quietly nearby, watching Shi Anzhi busy herself.
The effects of the medicine soon wore off, and the Omega grew weary, her eyelids heavy with exhaustion, yet she stubbornly refused to sleep.
Like a small animal afraid of being abandoned by its owner.
“Go to sleep,” Shi Anzhi said, spreading her quilt on the sofa. “My bedroom is inside.”
The Omega stood up but didn’t move, just looked at Shi Anzhi, then at the narrow sofa, and gently shook her head.
“What’s wrong?” Shi Anzhi asked.
The Omega extended a slender finger, pointing first to the bedroom, then to Shi Anzhi, and said softly, word by word, “Your bed.”
Shi Anzhi guessed: Was Ah Xue saying that was her bed, and she shouldn’t sleep on the sofa?
Her heart felt as if something had gently bumped into it, a mix of sourness and warmth.
The feeling was so unfamiliar. She smiled, walked over, and gently ruffled the Omega’s hair, just as she would comfort Bobo.
Ah Xue’s hair was of excellent quality soft and smooth, like fine silk.
“You’re an Omega, and you’re not well right now. I’ve modified the bed in the bedroom to help restore your strength. You need to sleep comfortably,” Shi Anzhi explained patiently. “It’s fine for me to sleep on the sofa, I’m used to it.”
The Omega still seemed reluctant, but Shi Anzhi’s tone, though gentle, was firm. In the end, she didn’t insist further.
“Then, what about clothes?”
The Omega looked down at the loose, plain dress she was wearing, she had no change of clothes.
She was usually very particular about cleanliness and reminded Shi Anzhi, “Bath.”
“Oh!” Shi Anzhi remembered this issue.
She turned and walked into the bedroom, pulling open the wardrobe. The wardrobe was practically empty, with only a few neatly folded T-shirts and pants all simple, durable styles.
She picked out a long cotton T-shirt that looked the softest and cleanest, along with a brand-new towel, and handed them to Nian Xue.
“Make do with these for now. I’ll figure something out tomorrow,” Shi Anzhi said. “The bathroom is inside the bedroom. It’s a bit basic, so please don’t mind.”
The Omega took the clothes and towel, nodding. Holding the items as if they were treasures, she headed to the bathroom.
Soon, the faint sound of running water could be heard.
Listening to the sound, Shi Anzhi rubbed her temples.
She walked to the window and pushed it open a crack. A gust of cold wind immediately rushed in.
Outside, everything was pitch black, except for some unidentified substances swaying in the wind and rain in the distance. Occasional chemical reactions produced faint glows, flickering like will-o’-the-wisps.
Using the cold air to clear her chaotic thoughts, she slowly pieced things together.
Teng Ying.
The name circled in her mind. The Omega’s pearl necklace was almost certainly taken by Teng Ying.
Teng Ying was a woman driven by greed and indifference, obsessed with wealth and devoted to the dark laws of District R. She had saved Shi Anzhi only because her body still held value, and she had saved the Omega only because Shi Anzhi had paid her. Her haste to send the Omega away was likely because she had set her sights on that necklace.
Now, Nian Xue’s necklace was gone.
Shi Anzhi let out a cold laugh. Staring at the ghostly lights outside, she found Teng Ying’s number and dialed.
The phone rang for a long time before it was answered. The background noise was chaotic, as if from a bar or a casino.
“Who is it?” Teng Ying’s voice carried a hint of drunken impatience.
“It’s me, Shi Anzhi.”
“Anzhi…” Teng Ying’s tone softened slightly, laced with amusement. “What’s wrong? Did that little beauty you picked up fall sick again? Need some medicine from me?”
Ignoring her teasing, Shi Anzhi cut straight to the point. “Did you take something extra?”
There was a brief silence on the other end.
Teng Ying’s voice sounded innocent. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“She had a pearl necklace. It’s missing.”
“Oh? So you think I took it?”
Shi Anzhi frowned.
She knew Teng Ying all too well. That kind of rhetorical question was proof enough that the necklace was in her possession.
“Teng Ying, that necklace might be important to her. If you took it, give it back.”
The background noise grew louder, and Teng Ying’s voice became muffled.
“What could an amnesiac fool possibly hold dear? I saved her taking a little payment is only fair. The money you gave me wasn’t even enough to cover the medicine. I saved her as a favor to you.”
With that, the call ended.
Shi Anzhi’s grip on the phone tightened until her knuckles turned white, her expression cold.
This outcome wasn’t entirely unexpected. Since Teng Ying refused to return it willingly, she would have to find another way.
A sound came from the bedroom, the Omega had finished her bath.
She had changed into Shi Anzhi’s clean long T-shirt, her damp hair draped over her shoulders. Her freshly washed skin was pale and translucent, her legs long and straight, glowing softly under the dim, yellowish light.
A faint, sweet fragrance filled the air, mingling with the scent of soap strangely pleasant.
She saw Shi Anzhi standing by the window, seemingly a bit uneasy, and asked softly, ” I’m done washing up.”
Shi Anzhi turned around, the cold and stern aura she had just moments ago instantly receding. She looked at the Omega, her gaze softening.
“Why didn’t you dry your hair? You could catch a cold like this.”
As she spoke, she walked into the bedroom and pulled out an old-fashioned hairdryer.
Shi Anzhi led the Omega to sit on the sofa, plugged in the hairdryer, and a loud roar erupted as warm air blew out.
Standing behind the Omega, she clumsily helped dry her hair. The last time she had done something similar was when she bathed and dried Bobo.
But drying a dog’s fur didn’t make her heart race like this. Shi Anzhi felt her heart acting strangely.
The Omega’s body stiffened slightly, as if unaccustomed to such closeness, but she remained obedient.
The warm air brushed through the Omega’s hair as Shi Anzhi’s slender fingers gently combed through the soft strands. Gradually, the Omega relaxed, tilting her head back slightly like a cat being petted, revealing her slender, delicate neck.
Shi Anzhi’s gaze fell upon Nian Xue’s smooth neck, and she was reminded of the missing pearl necklace. Her eyes darkened for a moment.
The hair dried quickly, becoming fluffy and soft.
“All done.”
Shi Anzhi turned off the hairdryer, and the room instantly fell silent. “Go to sleep now.”
Nian Xue stood up, glanced back at Shi Anzhi, her tea-colored eyes sparkling under the light. After hesitating for a moment, she reached out and gently touched Shi Anzhi’s cheek.
Her fingertips carried the warmth from her bath, soft to the touch. Once again, Shi Anzhi’s heart softened.
“Goodnight,” the Omega whispered.
With that, she turned and walked into the bedroom, closing the door behind her.
Shi Anzhi stood still, touching the spot on her cheek where she had been touched, as if a faint trace of warmth still lingered there.
After a long while, Shi Anzhi smiled belatedly.
No wonder she liked picking things up and bringing them home.
Why did it feel a little bit like happiness.
