The Lost Omega Heiress is Pregnant with My Child - Chapter 1
Shi Anzhi was twenty-five years old, born with smiling eyes and a pleasant appearance. In her childhood, she was especially adorable, and the aunties at the orphanage loved to dote on her.
They would buy her delicious snacks and fun toys, and because they pitied her weak constitution, they would often sneak an extra egg into her bowl. They would braid her hair and stroke her head affectionately, sighing with sympathy:
“Ah, such a well-behaved child. How could her gland be damaged?”
Unfortunately, Shi Anzhi was an Alpha with a damaged gland.
Her pheromones were extremely faint, almost undetectable, and she could hardly sense others’ pheromones either.
In other words, in this world, she was considered disabled.
Children around her age didn’t mind this and were happy to play with her. She didn’t have sensitive periods or sudden ruts, and her temperament was as mild and harmless as a cup of plain water. The young Omegas loved to gather around her.
But as they grew older, things changed.
The aunties all said she was pretty and sensible, and the orphanage director often recommended her as a priority for adoption. Yet, no one ever adopted her. If she were a Beta, many families would have been willing to take her in, but she was, unfortunately, a disabled Alpha.
One by one, her childhood playmates found new homes and left the orphanage. By the time the last child left, Shi Anzhi was in her second year of high school.
She thought it didn’t matter. If no one wanted her, she could build her own life. Besides, she was doing fine at the orphanage and could even stay there forever if needed.
Later, the only orphanage in District R shut down. All the staff withdrew from the area, and from then on, there was no place in the slums that could take in orphans.
On the day they were forced to part, the director cried, feeling she had failed Shi Anzhi and the Omega lady who had entrusted the child to her care, leaving her alone in this place.
Shi Anzhi smiled and comforted the director, saying it was alright, she would strive to survive on her own.
District R was located on the fringes of the empire, a place filled with abandoned old battlefields and countless garbage landfills. The area was plagued by severe radiation and the constant threat of acid rain, with social order in utter chaos.
Shi Anzhi lived in the lowest level of the slums in District R.
Decent jobs in the slums were scarce. At her worst, Shi Anzhi resorted to scavenging the most useless trash to survive. She was robbed of the rare metals she had painstakingly collected by local thugs, beaten up, and returned home injured, only to find an old man stealing the plastic bottles she had gathered to sell for money.
By then, she no longer had the strength to fight the old man. Clutching her wounds, she collapsed at the doorway, watching helplessly as the gaunt old man rummaged through her things. In the end, he dragged a sack away, stepping over her body without a hint of fear.
She truly had no strength left. In the darkness, she listened to the clattering sound of bottles scraping against the ground and let out a bitter laugh.
It was almost laughable this was what her life had become.
She lost consciousness, thinking she was going to die. In District R, countless people died silently every day.
But when she woke up again, she found herself in a pitch-black dental clinic, the air thick with the smell of blood and disinfectant.
Shi Anzhi was still conscious enough to recognize it as the dental clinic near the basement she rented. The dentist was a mysterious Beta, one of the few doctors in the slums.
When she looked over, dentist Teng Ying was scanning her body with an instrument and muttering, “Three broken ribs, an abdominal puncture wound. Huh, you actually managed to hold on for over ten hours.”
Before administering anesthesia, Dr. Teng Ying stared at her for a long time and asked, “Do you want to live? You know I only have a dentist’s license, right? Aren’t you afraid I might kill you during treatment?”
“Yes,” Shi Anzhi squeezed the word out through gritted teeth.
“Alright then.”
“Anyway, your life isn’t worth much. No one would know if I killed you during treatment. If you survive, you can help me dispose of waste from now on.”
“After all, you used to be a garbage picker your life is cheap anyway.”
Shi Anzhi slowly closed her eyes.
Teng Ying wasn’t a professional anesthesiologist after all. Midway through, Shi Anzhi woke up, feeling intense pain throughout her body. She heard Teng Ying muttering to himself, “Oh wow, this heart could probably fetch a good price.”
“Someone would probably want these corneas too.”
“Oh, this face is really nice. Wonder if it could be made into a human skin mask?”
“Too bad she’s crippled. Tch, forget it.”
In the end, the surgery was successful. Shi Anzhi kept her promise and began helping Teng Ying by soliciting clients, driving, selling medical equipment, and handling shady medical waste.
She earned some money working for Teng Ying and finally moved out of the basement, getting to see sunlight again.
Many of Teng Ying’s clients were dangerous characters. Through her close association with Teng Ying, Shi Anzhi befriended a retired underground boxer. She traded countless cans of fruit for combat skills that would ensure her survival in District R.
Over half a year later, as Shi Anzhi’s health improved, the first thing she did was track down the old man who had robbed her. She used everything she’d learned from the boxer on him, then went looking for the local gang leader who had since left the area.
She didn’t believe she needed to become highly skilled or professional before starting her revenge. In fact, no one in the slums would wait for her to grow stronger. If you wanted to do something, you had to do it while you were still healthy, because you never knew when you might be killed. This was a slum without regulation or justice, where people disappeared every day.
Just like now, she spent two months scavenging in the crash zone full of aircraft wreckage until she found a high-strength alloy pipe. She reweighted the pipe and polished it carefully with a cutter before going to confront the gang leader who had humiliated her.
She returned every injury she had suffered.
The gang leader screamed and wailed beneath her. She swung the folded alloy pipe forcefully, blood splattering everywhere until the body beneath her became an unrecognizable mass of flesh, all without dirtying her hands.
Only when the person beneath her was barely breathing did Shi Anzhi feel satisfied. She turned and left.
After that, no one dared to bully her easily anymore.
After saving up some money, Shi Anzhi opened a fruit shop and adopted a small yellow dog. Her life over the next few years was peaceful and ordinary. Business at the shop was mediocre after all, this was a slum where people struggled to even afford food. Shi Anzhi didn’t mind; as long as she could support herself, it was enough.
But she just couldn’t stop picking things up.
Even if she wasn’t collecting garbage, she’d collect something else.
Chasing cats and teasing dogs was one thing when she picked up animals she couldn’t keep, she’d pawn them off on Teng Ying or his clients. But she also loved rescuing people, bringing injured humans to Teng Ying and paying for their treatment.
On a late autumn night, she found a beautiful Omega by the river.
The woman had likely been wearing a white dress, but now it was so stained with blood and mud that its original color was barely recognizable. Lying by the riverside, she resembled an expensive doll carelessly discarded, her face deathly pale, her entire form in the darkness like a female ghost that devoured souls.
Around her neck was a string of pearls, the clasp adorned with an exquisite iris pattern that shimmered brilliantly even in the deep night.
It looked quite unique. Shi Anzhi pondered its material for a moment, it didn’t seem like something that could be found in District R.
Shi Anzhi patted the Omega, checking her breathing. It was faint, but she was still alive.
Shi Anzhi carried the barely conscious woman on her back to Teng Ying’s clinic and, as usual, paid to have her treated.
Three days later, Teng Ying called her, his tone irritable, demanding that she come quickly to take the troublesome Omega away.
Puzzled, Shi Anzhi hurried over. As soon as she reached the clinic entrance, the Omega, spotting her from afar, rushed over and clung tightly to her, trembling uncontrollably.
Shi Anzhi froze at the sudden intimate contact. Though she was naturally insensitive to others’ pheromones, even she could now detect the Omega’s scent, a mix of medicinal odors and the sweet, crisp fragrance of snow pears.
If even she could smell it, the air must be saturated with the scent. This Omega was likely either on the verge of estrus or in an extremely fragile state.
She simply couldn’t control the overflow of her pheromones.
Gently loosening the Omega’s grip, Shi Anzhi exchanged a glance with Teng Ying at the door. “What did you do to her?”
Teng Ying, a Beta who couldn’t detect pheromones, snapped angrily, “What do you mean, what did I do to her?”
“Let me tell you, this woman seems like an idiot, she’s lost her memory, can’t even speak clearly, doesn’t know her own name or where she lives.”
“When I asked her, she just cried. So annoying!”
“Could she be mute?”
“I’m telling you, you’ve really picked up trouble this time. I’m done with this. Take her back to wherever you found her!”
Hearing this, the Omega clung even tighter to Shi Anzhi, her tears soaking into Shi Anzhi’s clothes.
Shi Anzhi softly wrapped her arms around the Omega’s shoulders, paused for a moment, and then asked for her opinion.
“My home is very small.”
Before she could finish, the Omega in her arms looked up and nodded vigorously.
Teng Ying snorted dismissively upon hearing this. “You’re thinking of taking her home? You can barely support yourself.”
At his words, the Omega shrank further into Shi Anzhi’s embrace, her tea-colored eyes gazing at her with a mix of fear and hope.
She looked utterly pitiful.
Shi Anzhi felt the weight in the Omega’s gaze and sighed.
If she didn’t take her home, where else could the Omega go? As an Alpha, Shi Anzhi already struggled to survive in this slum. How many days could such a fragile Omega last on her own?
This was a place where even death didn’t guarantee a whole body.
Shi Anzhi decided not to discuss it further with Teng Ying. She resolved to take the Omega home first, opening the car door and letting her sit in the passenger seat.
Teng Ying watched their movements, unsurprised by Shi Anzhi’s decision. This person was always like this overflowing with compassion.
Leaning against the clinic entrance, he teased, “Don’t go picking up random things in the future. This time, you’ve really landed yourself a big trouble.”
“But I see you’ve picked up this O and can’t afford anything else. Who knows, maybe one day you’ll show up half-dead at my place again.”
Shi Anzhi showed no reaction to these words, but the Omega cautiously glanced at the Alpha after hearing them.
Sensing the woman’s gaze, Shi Anzhi offered a reassuring smile. “Don’t listen to her.”
She stepped on the gas pedal of the small truck and drove the Omega home.
The road alternated between paved cement and unfinished gravel paths. When they hit the loose stones, the vehicle swayed unsteadily, and the protective charm dangling from the mirror swung in the air.
Shi Anzhi watched the road absentmindedly, preoccupied with more pressing matters.
The rumble of thunder signaled an approaching storm. The air carried the earthy scent of impending rain. In the severely deteriorated environment of District R, acid rain fell intermittently corrosive and illness-inducing if one was caught in it.
To make matters worse, part of her current home was leaking. Bringing an Omega back in such dire circumstances seemed almost insane.
The Omega was in such a fragile state that Shi Anzhi would need to buy expensive nutritional supplements to help her recover. She could no longer get by with haphazard meals, skipping some and barely managing others.
Since she had brought this person home, she had to ensure she was properly cared for.
Shi Anzhi frowned slightly as a more critical issue came to mind her home had only one bed and a small sofa to sleep on.
Although she was a disabled Alpha who had never experienced a heat cycle and was largely unaffected by others’ pheromones, she and the Omega were still physiologically different. The bed would definitely have to be given to the Omega.
Her thoughts drifted, wandering through many memories.
She had once taken in a frail calico cat, but the kitten was too weak and died within days. Later, she adopted a yellow dog for companionship.
Her current vehicle was old and small, barely sufficient for deliveries and occasional trips. Not long ago, she had saved up some money to replace it, but now it seemed that money would have to be spent elsewhere.
Her feelings were complicated, yet there was a subtle sense of joy.
Cats and dogs were, after all, just animals. They could offer companionship but couldn’t speak. This Omega, though referred to by Teng Ying as an amnesiac mute fool, was a real human being.
It felt like returning to the days in the orphanage, having someone to keep her company.
Shi Anzhi smiled to herself, but suddenly, her right shoulder stiffened.
The Omega in the passenger seat had reached over and touched her hand on the steering wheel. Like a small animal, the Omega’s slender fingers gently traced the back of Shi Anzhi’s hand, her expression curious, as if simply trying to capture Shi Anzhi’s attention.
Shi Anzhi froze, a fleeting itch spreading across her hand and heart. She looked over, puzzled.
Noticing her gaze, the Omega smiled sheepishly but said nothing.
Ahead lay the red-light district, where the roads grew more chaotic. Shi Anzhi turned her attention back to the front, her heart inexplicably beating faster.
The truck was about to enter a privately controlled area with a complex network of relationships, a place teeming with all sorts of people, where bloody disputes frequently erupted. As she navigated the winding roads, worrying about the conditions, she heard a faint voice in the vehicle.
“…Home.”
Shi Anzhi thought she must be hearing things.
She kept a wary eye on her surroundings, hoping the loan-shark Alpha she had a grudge against wouldn’t show up today. Just as her nerves were on edge, she heard a voice again and felt a sudden touch on her thigh.
A hand had come to rest on her leg once more.
The Omega’s warmth seeped through the thin fabric of her work pants, unmistakably clear.
Noticing she had finally caught Shi Anzhi’s attention, the Omega curled her lips into a pleased smile. Completely unaware of the danger they were in, she repeated to Shi Anzhi, “Let’s go home.”
Shi Anzhi froze.
So, this Omega could speak after all.
And her voice was incredibly pleasant.
