- The Little Jealous Cat Who Transmigrated into a Delicate Beauty
- Chapter 9 - Showing Off
Ye Qingqing’s pink, plum-blossom-shaped paws stepped down heavily a few times, leaving behind three or four scattered cat prints.
“Presumptuous human, how dare you spray this King!”
Susu looked on with a face full of confusion, completely unable to understand what she was muttering about.
Ye Qingqing felt that her regal aura was diminishing slightly, so she increased her strength and stepped a few more times, tilting her head back and howling.
“Apologize to this King at once!”
The cat’s owner remained unmoved. In fact, she felt her eyes growing tired from the long stare-down, so she gently closed her eyelids.
Ye Qingqing: !!!
With a whoosh, she leapt onto the bed and slapped her paw right onto the girl’s chest.
As a result, the girl simply lay there resigned to her fate, not even lifting an eyelid for a long while.
Ye Qingqing was furious. She tried to use human language to intimidate her, struggling to practice the mouth shapes, but before she could utter half a word, she was cut off by the electronic voice of the Sky Cat Teacher.
“Great King, you mustn’t! The little master’s body is weak; she cannot withstand any fright right now!”
She took a look at the girl lying beside her and forced herself to swallow the human words she had so painstakingly organized.
A few seconds of silence hung in the air. Seeing that the creature had stopped its movements, the cat owner curiously opened her eyes to look.
She discovered the cat sitting upright, shaking its whiskers indignantly and pouting its mouth—looking exactly like how Xiao Qinqin acted when she was angry and ignoring people.
Imperceptibly, a trace of a weak smile squeezed out from the corners of her mouth.
Ye Qingqing: ?! You actually dare to mock this King!
Just as she was about to explode, the phone on the computer desk rang.
Their gazes locked and then froze; person and cat simultaneously looked toward the source of the sound.
The phone continued to buzz and hum. The girl struggled for a moment but simply didn’t have the strength to climb up.
Only then did Ye Qingqing’s heart feel a bit more balanced. She pointed her nostrils at the human, her short tail swaying left, right, up, and down, as if using a series of body movements to signal her arrogance to the human.
Beg this King!
Susu was well-accustomed to Xiao Qinqin’s smug behavior. She glanced at the still-vibrating phone screen.
Forget it. A phone call on a big weekend probably isn’t anything good anyway. Even if there was an urgent bug at the company that needed handling, she couldn’t crawl out of bed to work overtime in her current state, so she simply chose to “lie flat.”
Seeing her give up the struggle, Ye Qingqing’s third eyelid contracted downward while her eyeballs tilted upward, giving the human a fierce eye-roll.
It was the first time she’d seen a cat roll its eyes, and Susu laughed out loud.
Ye Qingqing bared her little tiger teeth and, with a thud, jumped off the bed. Her round body ran toward the vibrating phone, her short tail swaying gracefully with her feline steps.
She stopped half a meter from the desk, kicked off with her hind legs, and leaped upward, landing steadily on the tabletop. The contact was so light that the desk didn’t even wobble.
Her cat paw reached for the vibrating phone, and she let out a provocative meow at Susu on the bed.
Seeing no reaction, she bit the phone in her mouth and leaped straight toward the opposite bed.
Seeing her approach, the cat owner instinctively covered her chest.
The phone in Ye Qingqing’s mouth was still buzzing. She dropped it in front of the owner and bit the corner of the quilt covering the girl, her short tail wagging every which way as if she were claiming credit.
Having twice witnessed this cat transform into a human, Susu was still somewhat afraid of the creature before her, yet she couldn’t resist wanting to pet its little head.
She reached out tremblingly, wanting to touch it but not quite daring to.
Ye Qingqing recalled the images of Xiao Qinqin enjoying herself in her memories and stretched her neck forward as far as possible.
One second, two seconds, three seconds…
Susu finally tapped the cat’s head lightly.
Having received her reward, Ye Qingqing flopped onto the bed, exposing her snowy-white belly, while a rhythmic, “sutra-chanting” purr vibrated in her throat.
A cat is a cat, after all; that look of enjoyment made her look even happier than if she had eaten a tin of cat food.
Susu ignored her after that. She glanced at the caller ID on the screen, and her expression cooled perceptibly.
But when the call was answered, her voice was still sweet and obedient.
“Hello, Mom!”
“Baby! Mom has something I want to discuss with you. Are you free right now?”
The background on the other end was a bit noisy. Judging by the familiar sounds of talking and laughing, several relatives were likely gathered at her maternal grandfather’s house discussing gossip again.
She didn’t place much hope in that endearment “Baby,” but merely replied in a delicate, soft tone.
“I’m free. What is it, Mom?”
The middle-aged woman on the other end became even more fawning and formal.
“Oh, it’s like this. I heard from your aunt that your uncle has a colleague at work with a son the same age as you, and he’s working in your city too…”
Halfway through the woman’s sentence, for some unknown reason, Ye Qingqing swung her tail and swiped the device right out of her owner’s hand. The call was accidentally disconnected when the screen was touched.
Susu glanced at the cat, who was staring at her like a little tiger with its head tilted. She calmly picked up the phone from the sheets and was about to call back when her aunt’s voice message blasted through.
Only at times like this did the coordination between these two women become so seamless.
She connected the call, and before she could speak, another gentle and virtuous woman took over the negotiation. The aunt didn’t speak as fawningly as the mother, but her words were constantly laced with caution.
“Susu, just now…”
“Auntie, my hand slipped just now and I accidentally hung up. Is everyone there? It’s really lively at home today!”
The girl squeezed out a weak smile, her mouth stiff from the effort, but she was forever the “good and sensible” one.
It wasn’t that she didn’t know the significance of these people taking turns to call her!
“Susu, your mom doesn’t mean to rush you. She’s just asking; don’t overthink it!”
“I know, Auntie. You, Dad, Mom, Uncle, and my other aunt… I know you’re all doing this for my own good!”
Susu laughed until tears were almost squeezed out. Ye Qingqing, unable to stand it any longer, let out a loud meow.
There was a brief silence on both ends of the line.
It wasn’t surprising that the family was pushing. By all accounts, at twenty-seven years old and having been single since birth, it was time for her to find a partner. But she didn’t want to start a family at all. She knew that once you touched marriage, you could never escape. She accepted the responsibilities and obligations she was born with, but for the future, she only wanted to live lightly and easily on her own. She didn’t want to marry or have children, nor did she want to be burdened by another family.
But given the current situation…
“Auntie, I actually wanted to find someone who lives close to home but works in the same city as me. What does your uncle’s colleague’s son do? Why don’t you have Uncle set it up? I’d like to meet him!”
A three-hundred-and-sixty-degree turn. It was as if the girl had suddenly seen the light; her tone was even more positive and cheerful than before.
But for some reason, Ye Qingqing felt that she wasn’t happy that she was, in fact, barely holding on.
Hearing this answer, the old mother was suddenly overjoyed. She snatched the phone from the aunt’s hand and rattled off a bunch of introductions into the receiver, saying how good the guy was, that his elders worked in government institutions, and that if it worked out, he could even help out the relatives…
After the call ended, Susu could practically feel the two women high-fiving in celebration through the screen.
Not a minute later, she received a friend request from someone named “Gazing at the Starry Sky.”
She was so exhausted she didn’t even have the strength to roll over. With great effort, she picked up the phone, but just as she was about to reply, the cat suddenly pounced and kicked the phone into a corner.
“What are you doing! Is there no end to this?”
Perhaps because she had suppressed her feelings for too long, she forgot the fact that this creature was a monster and shouted at it, her voice cracking.
Ye Qingqing was not to be outdone. She crouched at the edge of the bed, her cat eyes bulging, looking ready to strike and fight to the death.
In the next second, the tears at the corners of the girl’s eyes fell like raindrops from a roof. Her body convulsed, and she began to gasp for breath in large gulps.
The cat king, who had been ready to attack, suddenly jerked: Not good, these are signs that her life is in danger!
Without a second thought, she leaped and transformed in mid-air into her human form. She lunged over, took a deep breath, tilted the girl’s chin up, and pressed her lips firmly against the girl’s mouth…
