- Chapter 22 - The Blind Date
In the end, Ye Qingqing turned into a chubby cat and was stuffed into a cat carrier to be carried along on a blind date.
At that moment, Susu’s heart was filled with resistance. However, remembering the embarrassing scene that had occurred on the bus earlier, she decided to bring her along anyway to prevent the cat from running around everywhere and getting itself lost.
Traveling with a pet brought many inconveniences. She had originally planned to take the subway, but ultimately switched to hailing a taxi.
This area belonged to a bustling commercial street and was very congested on weekends; she arrived nearly half an hour later than the previously appointed time.
The other party was already waiting at the entrance of Starbucks. With black hair brushing his forehead and a scarf loosely wrapped around him, he stood in the wind dressed in pink and white, looking like a young lad.
Susu had seen his photo, but she couldn’t be certain.
Just as she took out her phone to send a message and ask, Su Bing recognized her first.
“Hi, look over here!”
He raised his phone high and waved it above his head. He possessed the same pair of peach-blossom eyes; when he smiled, they were bright and clear, reflecting a sunshine and humor rare for someone of his age.
Susu adjusted the shoulder strap of the cat carrier, feeling a bit embarrassed.
“Ah, is it really you?”
“Of course it’s really me, it can’t be a fake!”
His gaze landed on the cat carrier behind her.
“Wow, you actually brought a little kitten! I love cats the most!”
Susu took the carrier off and held it in her arms.
The young man stepped forward, teasing through the ventilation holes.
“So cute!”
Ye Qingqing gave a low growl and bared her teeth at those peach-blossom eyes outside.
“You’re the one who’s cute, your whole family is cute!”
Listening to her hostile huffing, Susu found it somewhat funny. She unzipped the bag and lifted her out by the scruff of her neck.
Su Bing took the initiative to help carry the cat carrier.
She held the cat in her arms, supporting her with one hand while “revenge-petting” her belly with the other.
Ye Qingqing’s body went limp from the rubbing, and she slumped entirely into the person’s palm, her throat uncontrollably letting out a “purr-purr” sound.
Seeing the kitten looking so blissful, Su Bing tentatively reached out his own “paw” to stroke her, but he was startled back by a single glare from Ye Qingqing.
“It’s quite fierce!”
Susu looked into those feline pupils and curled her lips mischievously.
“She is a bit fierce. Not only is she fierce, but she also always poops outside. I call her the Poop King.”
Su Bing burst into laughter.
“Poop King, what a unique name!”
Ye Qingqing: !!!
Pets were not allowed in the coffee shop, but Su Bing was skilled at socializing. He ran over to chat with the manager for a bit, and Ye Qingqing was actually allowed inside.
Su Bing went to the front counter to order coffee.
Susu sat in her seat, playing with the rolls of fat on Ye Qingqing’s belly, pinching them every now and then.
Ye Qingqing twisted her body in anger.
“Meow!” You human, stop pulling this King’s fur!
Susu put her index finger to her lips.
“Shh, you can’t cry out!”
She looked at the staff members busy at the front counter, signaling with her eyes.
Ye Qingqing shut her cat mouth.
At that moment, Su Bing personally walked over carrying a cup of coffee shaped like a cat’s paw.
He placed the cat-paw cup, which was printed with a cherry blossom pattern on the outside, onto the table.
Ye Qingqing could not stand the hormones emanating from this human and looked away, ignoring him while using her two small paws to play with the drawstring of Susu’s hoodie.
Susu gave a light smile and looked mischievously at Ye Qingqing in her arms.
“Mr. Su, you also have quite a bit of research into these viral trending items? I remember when this cat-paw cup was released for pre-order, our company’s servers crashed several times in one day!”
Her point wasn’t the server crash, but simply wanting to emphasize this cat-paw cup!
Upon hearing this, Ye Qingqing glanced back. Seeing that pink, fleshy “plum blossom” paw pad, her cat pupils instantly widened into circles.
You humans are truly outrageous!
Su Bing took a seat opposite her, joking with a smile.
“It’s relevant to my profession, so I paid a little attention to it. I forgot you work at a major tech firm. For this kind of internet marketing, the most miserable people are probably you hard-working programmers who work overtime and us planners who do frantic brainstorming, right?”
Susu smiled without speaking.
He pushed that pink plum blossom paw a bit closer to her side of the table.
“I camped out in a tent overnight to grab this. Want a taste?”
A few years ago, Starbucks’ cat-paw cup triggered a “Holy Grail War” on the internet; short-form video “pet economies” joined forces to rake in money. Three thousand “paws” were gone in a second, and many netizens joked about camping in tents overnight to snatch a cup.
Just as Susu was about to reach for it, with a “clatter,” Ye Qingqing knocked over that cute plum blossom paw, causing the coffee inside to spill all over the place.
“Meow!”
Susu let out a small shriek of surprise. Su Bing hurried to grab tissues to help her wipe the stains off her clothes.
“Waiter!”
He called a waiter over to help.
Ye Qingqing was lifted by her owner and put back into the cat carrier. Through the ventilation holes, she watched the staff bustling about in front of her. She wanted to cry out but didn’t dare; her heart was filled with extreme grievance.
The first meeting had resulted in such an awkward blunder, yet it did not affect the second half of the date for these two social experts at all.
They joked around just as they did online, occasionally chatting about work matters, looking like a pair of lovers who had known each other for a long time they were strangely well-matched.
Locked in the cat carrier, Ye Qingqing listened sourly to the laughter that occasionally drifted from the two of them, her whiskers twitching in rage.
Leaving the coffee shop, Su Bing invited her to a movie.
Susu didn’t want to go. She pulled the kitten out of the bag to use her as a shield against the romantic advances.
“Next time. I’ve been out a bit too long today, it’s time for the Poop King to go!”
Su Bing reached out with a large hand, fearfully wanting to pat Ye Qingqing’s head, only to be met with a mouthful of bared fangs.
To save face, he also held his hands on both sides of his chin, mimicking the tooth-baring action Ye Qingqing had just made.
“Raooow, you’re so fierce!”
The corners of Susu’s lips curled into a smile as her spring-water-like peach-blossom eyes gazed at the man and the cat before her.
“Would Mr. Su like to take a photo with the cat?”
Su Bing tucked away his cute smile, looking somewhat flattered.
“Is that okay?”
“Of course it is!”
She pulled Ye Qingqing a little closer into her arms, opened a beauty camera app, and selected a “cat head” photo frame.
Su Bing leaned his face in.
With a click, three cat heads were frozen in time.
Two pairs of peach-blossom eyes one pair clear, one pair gentle with the little kitten decorating the middle; they looked even more like a “destined couple.”
Ye Qingqing stared at the Mr. Su on the phone screen, her “airplane ears” flattened and her mouth twitching back toward the base of her skull.
Just wait until this King gets back, I will definitely smash your head to pieces!
On the taxi ride back, Susu changed that photo to her lock screen wallpaper and very high-profilely showed it off on her social feed.
“The first day taking my Poop King out on a date…”
She deleted the post very quickly after sending it, in less than a minute.
The phone kept ringing and buzzing incessantly. She turned off the screen, leaned back against the rear seat to rest with her eyes closed, and naturally reached a hand into the cat carrier.
Ye Qingqing was still angry; her chubby body shrunk to one side, dodging to avoid being touched.
In the next second, the phone in her pocket vibrated frantically. Her hand teasing the cat paused for a second, then she slowly pulled it out and answered the call.
