- Chapter 21 - Softening
The weekend arrived quickly.
Ye Qingqing had been counting on her fingers, waiting for several days. Finally, she caught a day when her Master didn’t have to go out very early and return very late.
She woke up according to her usual alarm clock, but when she found that the human beside her showed no movement, she felt rather nervous. Her small body shifted out, crouching by her Master’s pillow, sniffing little by little with the tip of her nose.
“Shovel-shifter? Shovel-shifter, wake up quickly!”
Susu was tickled by her uneven breathing. She rubbed the tip of her nose and coaxed in a muffled voice.
“Shit King, be good… let Sister sleep a little longer. Sister is tired!”
Receiving a response, Ye Qingqing was suddenly overjoyed. She lunged onto the person, raising her hands to slap the little Master’s face.
“You human, get up quickly! This King has been awake for a long time!”
She didn’t have much strength. Although she had a pair of human hands, the feeling of them landing on the face was still like that of a little kitten deliberately retracting its claws, revealing the furry, pink plum-blossom pads.
“Oh, Shit King…”
Susu was somewhat annoyed by being scratched with such force. She twisted her body, moved half an inch to the side, and continued to sleep.
Ye Qingqing sat on the soft part of the woman’s chest, grabbing her shoulders and shaking them hard.
“Get up! Get up! This King has been up for a long time!”
On this big weekend, the shovel-shifter’s bit of “rising temper” was completely awakened. She grabbed a bolster from the bedside, smashed it against the girl, covered her head, and went back to sleep.
Ye Qingqing was no pushover. She flipped the quilt open, crawled up, aimed at her cheek, and bit down directly.
Susu gasped in pain, sat up abruptly, and glared at her furiously.
“Are you a dog?! Is a person not allowed to sleep on a weekend?!”
She was rarely this fierce. Right now, her hair was a mess, and her beautiful straight brows were knitted in the middle, looking quite severe.
Ye Qingqing was a bit dazed by the intimidation, staring blankly into the other’s eyes.
Susu’s “parental mode” was activated, and she kept a long face, locked in a stalemate with her.
Ye Qingqing suddenly remembered something she had read in a post before.
When humans are extremely depressed, appropriately satisfying some of their physiological needs might make them feel better. For example… a French kiss.
Intertwine like snakes, blend together naturally, and then rub inward…
She slowly crawled up, circled her hands around the woman’s neck, and pressed her soft lips against hers. Relying on the knowledge learned from the post, she began to explore inward bit by bit.
Susu was a bit slow to react. Once she realized what was happening, she hurriedly grabbed the hair on the back of the girl’s head and pulled, creating some distance.
“What are you doing? You silly cat!”
Ye Qingqing felt a bit aggrieved. Her round, glass-ball-like eyes stared at the woman, her voice carrying a hint of innocence.
“Can’t you see this King is currently coaxing you? You human, you really don’t know how to appreciate kindness!”
Susu: “…”
This time, she was completely awake clearer than she had ever been.
In the afternoon, there was an appointment to keep. She got out of bed, brushed her teeth, washed her face, and tidied the room.
Ye Qingqing wore her slippers backward, following behind her.
Since the other person ignored her, she didn’t dare speak.
She only cursed that old fogey from “T-Mall” a thousand times in her heart what kind of rotten ideas were those? They only served to make this King lose face in front of a human!
At noon, Susu cooked a light crucian carp soup for her, but she didn’t pamper her by feeding her as she used to.
Ye Qingqing found it even harder to read this human’s emotions. The “cat” sat there absentmindedly scooping the soup in the bowl, having no appetite at all.
“Eat quickly, I have something to do and need to go out this afternoon!”
Because of the date with her blind date, Susu had to urge her. This was the first sentence she had spoken to her since their lips touched.
Ye Qingqing was thrilled. She picked up the soup bowl, downed it in one gulp, and slammed the bowl onto the table with a clack.
To get the human’s attention, she even pointed her nostrils at her and gave a light huff.
Susu: “…”
What a cute little kitten. If only she could stay with me like this forever, it would be wonderful!
She picked up the bowls and went to the kitchen.
Ye Qingqing quickly followed her in, hovering around her Master.
The Master put the washed bowls aside and took a plastic brush to clean the charred yellow bits from the bottom of the pan where the fish had been fried.
Since the heat had been a bit too high earlier, the marks were hard to clean. As a programmer with a slight obsession with cleanliness, she used quite a bit of force when swinging the brush, scrubbing up, down, left, and right, faster and faster.
Ye Qingqing stood behind her, her eyes fixed on the movement of her hand, her head bobbing back and forth like a Roly Poly toy.
Susu scrubbed for a while until her wrist felt a bit sore. When her movements slowed down slightly, Ye Qingqing’s entire “cat” being became alert. Her human-shaped ears seemed to pin back against her head, looking ready to pounce and attack.
In the next second, with a swish, she lunged forward. Her two hands pinned down the brush in her Master’s hand.
Susu helplessly let go of the object, glancing at the cat out of the corner of her eye.
Ye Qingqing was so happy she couldn’t contain herself, her throat even emitting a “purring” sound like chanting sutras. She tilted her head, her beautiful feline pupils full of smugness.
“Heh, this King has finally caught you!”
Susu: “…”
She really is a cat, after all!
She remembered when Qinqin was little. Every time she opened her computer to write code, that fellow would crouch beside her, staring without blinking. When her hand movements slowed down a bit, the cat would suddenly pounce, grabbing the back of her hand and biting. With “airplane ears” pinned back and her short tail swishing left and right, she looked just as smug as she did now.
Sometimes, a program she was halfway through writing would be completely ruined. The despair she felt then made her really want to pick the cat up and give it a beating, yet she couldn’t bear to…
It was just such a little kitten that had accompanied her for so long, bringing joy at every moment.
She spent nearly an hour struggling with a single pot. By the time she finished cleaning, it was almost two o’clock. She had an appointment for afternoon tea/dinner at four; for a first meeting, she had to dress formally. This was the routine for all blind dates.
She began to wash up and get ready.
Ye Qingqing followed her back and forth. Having been ignored for most of the day, she felt a bit stifled in her heart.
Susu held an eyebrow pencil, drawing her brows.
Ye Qingqing held a teardrop-shaped makeup sponge, tossing it around in her hands.
“Hey, I’m talking to you, Shovel-shifter. You’re dressing up so flamboyantly are you going out to seduce some human?”
Still no response.
Slap!
The little thing slammed the makeup sponge onto the table, looking at her aggressively.
“This King is asking you a question!”
Susu looked up, her beautiful peach-blossom eyes meeting hers.
Ye Qingqing’s expectant little gaze didn’t get an answer; instead, she got a roll of the eyes.
She retracted her third eyelid slightly and shifted her pupils upward, giving a roll of the eyes right back.
“You human, you really are outrageous!”
Susu finished her makeup, grabbed her bag, and headed for the door.
Suddenly, the girl lunged over, her two arms spread out like a little angel, blocking the doorway.
“Not allowed to go out!”
Susu folded the girl’s “little wings” to one side, trying to brush past her.
“I have business!”
The girl suddenly grabbed her arm, tilting her head up and questioning fiercely.
“What business? Tell this King first!”
This “matter-of-fact” attitude was truly infuriating. Susu raised her palm, wanting to smack her head.
“You Shit King, don’t think I don’t dare hit you!”
Ye Qingqing stretched her head forward, squinting her eyes with an air of “generous martyrdom.”
“If you have the guts, then hit me. Let’s see what you can actually do to this King!”
Ring a ring a ring, ring a ring a ring…
The cheerful phone ringtone sounded. She did a “cat-squat” on the floor, wrapping both arms around Susu’s right leg, hanging her entire body weight on it.
“Not allowed to go! Not allowed to go see that foxy vixen!”
