- Chapter 17 - Cat Food
That kind of kiss was the trick Su Su usually used to soothe “Little Darling.”
Ever since Ye Qingqing had entered her home, their interaction had been so natural that Su Su never once thought of her Little Darling as an outlier. Earlier, in her haste to leave, she had overlooked the fact that the cat was no longer a simple pet. It was only when she reached the elevator and waited that she remembered the incident on the bus from the day before.
In this age of the internet, things might seem harmonious and beautiful, but at the slightest sign of trouble, the whole nation goes on high alert.
This creature still maintained her primitive animal instincts, making her incompatible with the current world. If the vast community of netizens discovered her strange behavior, her situation would become extremely dangerous.
Su Su didn’t want anything to happen to her.
Ye Qingqing’s body went soft, and she slipped like a silk thread from the girl’s fingertips, transforming into human form and collapsing onto the floor, looking up at her.
“You… you annoying human, why do you always… like to… lick my face so recklessly?”
Su Su hadn’t quite adapted to the human transformation yet. She calmed herself for a second, then knelt down, hesitantly reaching out her hand to rub the girl’s head.
“I’m going to work now. Stay home and be good; don’t go out alone. It’s dangerous outside!”
Ye Qingqing tilted her head to dodge the touch.
Her feline eyes widened significantly, her nose pointed up at the girl as she argued with her in a stutter.
“Don’t you… try to de-deceive me. When has this King… ever been… afraid of danger?”
Hearing this mouthful of awkward human speech, Su Su couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
She once again brought her fingers close and forcibly patted her head.
“Be good. I’ll bring you something delicious when I get back!”
Ye Qingqing let out a “tsk” of pure disdain.
Once the human had truly left, she obediently climbed up from the floor and leaped onto the computer chair in a single bound. Sitting there like a cat, she took out the new phone Su Su had given her yesterday and began to study.
Just as her owner said, the outside world was dangerous. Having come to the human realm with a mission, she was entirely a stranger here. If it weren’t for the guidance of the Heavenly Cat Messenger and Su Su’s shelter and care, she might still be wandering the streets or would have been beaten to death by humans long ago.
Though she did not fear death, as the leader of her tribe, the weight of responsibility on her shoulders was heavy. Saving the Tabby Tribe was the final wish of her Queen Mother before she passed; therefore, no matter what, she had to protect herself and succeed. This was her fate.
Ye Qingqing browsed through various human world tutorials sent by Teacher Heavenly Cat. As noon approached, she felt very hungry. She was about to jump down to eat some cat food from the floor when she suddenly remembered that the human had said she’d bring back something delicious.
Thus, she stared longingly at the door for a while before jumping back onto the chair to continue “cramming.”
Human studies were extremely difficult and obscure. Even for a King as brilliant as herself, many things required a long time to comprehend.
Between the excessive mental strain and the physical hunger, by the time it was nearly 4:00 PM, she could hardly hold on. But thinking that she would get a good meal when Su Su returned, she refused to eat even a single grain of cat food. She stubbornly curled up on the computer chair, waiting and waiting, until she eventually fell asleep.
In the past, her cat body was very resistant to hunger. Sometimes when out on a campaign, she wouldn’t see food for ten days or half a month, yet she would still fight valiantly. Now that she was in the human world, using the biological functions of a cat to sustain a human body was inevitably a struggle.
Su Su had encountered a problem at work today a bug that took from morning until night to fix. She hadn’t even had a chance to eat and finished work very late. Dragging her exhausted body home, she had completely forgotten that there was a human-sized cat waiting for her to feed it.
When she pushed the door open and saw the cat-girl curled up in the chair, clutching her stomach in her sleep, Su Su felt a wave of intense heartache.
When Little Darling was a cat, she had been well-fed and round, like a giant fur-ball. After evolving into a human, it was as if she had been stretched infinitely from both ends she was thin and long. Using a natural bone-shrinking technique to draw her body in, she looked like a tiny, fragile bundle that inspired even more pity.
Su Su used a bit of force when she went to scoop her into her arms, but to her surprise, her hands felt like they had grabbed air.
So light!
When the Cat Tribe utilized their supernatural forms in the human world, although they looked like tall, slender humans, their body weight remained that of an ordinary cat.
Su Su froze for a second, then carried the little creature toward the bed. After a few steps, the girl woke up.
The moment her eyes opened, her nose began to twitch. Upon confirming that there was no scent other than cat food, she began to thrash in Su Su’s arms. Her disappointed feline eyes glared indignantly at those peach-blossom eyes, her heart filled with grievance.
“You didn’t bring any food at all! You were indeed… deceiving this King!”
After a full day of “recharging” her brain, this girl’s human speech was actually much more fluent than before.
Su Su felt deeply sorry for breaking her word. She was exhausted herself, but looking at the “stunning creature” in her arms, her heart somehow found new motivation.
She freed one hand and gave her head a comforting stroke.
“Be good, King of Poop. What do you want to eat? Sister will cook for you.”
Hearing that Su Su was going to cook personally, the dim light in Ye Qingqing’s eyes instantly brightened, but she still turned her head away proudly and let out a “humph.”
Su Su saw through these subtle emotions but deliberately refrained from coaxing her.
When Ye Qingqing didn’t get a response for a long time, she feared the human might take it back. She quickly looked up to argue.
“From now on, you are not allowed to call me King of Poop!”
Su Su gave a perfunctory “Mhm.”
“You are not allowed to touch this King’s head!”
“Mhm!”
“And you are not allowed to always rub your fur against this King!”
“Fine!”
With this back-and-forth, Ye Qingqing’s “fur” was finally smoothed down.
“This King wants to eat chicken breast mixed with boiled egg yolks!”
Su Su dotingly agreed and laid her down on the bed.
Fearing Su Su didn’t understand, Ye Qingqing fumbled for her phone to find a picture, her finger sliding across the screen several times.
“This one!”
She was truly a clever and cute kitty. Su Su couldn’t resist and patted the cat-head again.
With a slight smile on her lips, her peach-blossom eyes curved into crescent moons.
Ye Qingqing turned her head away angrily.
“I said no touching this King’s head!”
When she didn’t get an “Mhm” in response, she peeked back up secretly.
Su Su was completely charmed by this little expression. She leaned down, pressing her soft lips against the mole between the girl’s brows. With a “mwah,” she stood up quickly before the girl could react and scurried off to the kitchen in three steps.
The kitchen door was half-closed, and from time to time, the clattering sounds of pots and pans drifted out. Su Su set a pot of water to boil, put the chicken breast from the fridge into the microwave to defrost, and began dicing potatoes and carrots.
Ye Qingqing lay in the blankets, her stomach cramping with pain. She clutched her stomach with one hand while her other hand unconsciously moved to touch the “Chuan” (川) character pattern on her forehead.
In the Tabby Tribe, the “Chuan” pattern represented the highest status; it was a symbol of the royal nobility’s power, sacred and inviolable. As the only daughter of the late King and Queen, this was especially true for her. Growing up, almost no one could get close to her body, let alone touch her, except for her parents. Now, having been provoked more than once by this human, she felt a sensation in her heart that she couldn’t quite describe.
Soon, a fragrant scent of meat wafted from the room. Ye Qingqing gave a sudden jolt, but she no longer had the strength to switch freely between her human and cat forms.
Gradually, the faint scent of fish soup drifted in. The little creature became so excited she couldn’t contain herself. With a “thump,” two cat ears popped out from her temples. She tilted her head and yelled impatiently toward the kitchen:
“You, Poop-Scooper!”
