- The Junior Sister Isn't Flirtatious At All; It's All Their Fault for Being Too Seductive
- Chapter 76 - The Demon Sovereign
Jiang Luoyue didn’t dare drink a potion of unknown origin.
However, the puppet refused to let her be. It followed her closely, insistently hovering until she took the medicine. Knowing that puppets were impossible to reason with, Jiang Luoyue decided to wait for Li Changting to wake up and see if he could identify the brew.
She sat by Li Changting’s side, the puppet standing stubbornly next to her like a silent sentinel. Not knowing how long the wait would be, she eventually leaned against Li Changting to rest and fell asleep shortly after.
When Li Changting finally stirred, he felt a weight on his chest. His first instinct was to push it away, but his hand brushed against something soft. Opening his eyes, he found Jiang Luoyue fast asleep on top of him.
This was the key difference between Li Changting and the other men; the others could tell it was Jiang Luoyue even with their eyes closed, naturally pulling her into their arms the moment they felt her nearby. Li Changting, however, was immediately startled.
He looked up and saw the expressionless woman holding the tray, staring directly at them. He jolted in shock, his body trembling, which woke Jiang Luoyue instantly.
“Senior Brother Li, you’re awake?” Jiang Luoyue said, rubbing her eyes.
Noticing his wary gaze, she smiled. “That’s a puppet. It’s been trying to give us medicine, but I didn’t know if it was safe to drink.”
Li Changting nodded. “It’s good to be cautious. Let me see.”
He took the bowl and wafted the scent toward his nose. “This medicine is extremely effective for my injuries.” He then checked the second bowl. “Harmless. Junior Sister, you can drink it.”
It was only then that Li Changting fully realized his body had almost completely healed. His cultivation, which had barely reached the early Nascent Soul stage, had not only stabilized but showed signs of an imminent breakthrough.
Jiang Luoyue gave him a knowing wink. Understanding they couldn’t speak freely in front of the puppet, Li Changting gave a silent nod of comprehension. Once they finished the medicine, the puppet finally turned and left the room.
“Junior Sister… I will… no, wait. Junior Sister, you have to take responsibility for me.”
Li Changting knew Jiang Luoyue had no shortage of companions; it wasn’t his place to “take responsibility” for her, so the only option left was to beg her to take responsibility for him.
Jiang Luoyue burst out laughing. “Of course I’ll take responsibility! Since when have I ever stolen someone’s innocence and just walked away? I will treat every one of you very well.”
Li Changting lowered his head, his ears turning bright red. Jiang Luoyue tilted her head to look at him. “Senior Brother~” She leaned in and pecked the corner of his mouth.
He was not an assertive man. If he hadn’t been on the verge of death, he likely would have kept his feelings buried forever. He felt far too ordinary compared to the other men around her—so ordinary he feared he would never catch her eye. Naturally, he hadn’t dared to try.
Jiang Luoyue chuckled. “Now that you know my secret, you’re stuck being my little Alchemist forever.”
Li Changting nodded, then grew serious. “Is it because dual cultivating with you boosts power? Your essence blood, your body… every part of you seems to have such utility.” He looked up sharply. “You must never let the Demon race find out. Otherwise, they will do everything in their power to capture you. Refining you into a pill would be the most wasteful way to use your value.”
Jiang Luoyue’s expression turned solemn. As long as they kept their mouths shut, she should be safe. However, she wondered if Li Changting’s miraculous recovery had already drawn the attention of whoever saved them.
Before long, the puppet returned and knocked on the door.
“Fellow Daoists, my Master requests an audience.” The puppet’s voice was dry and perfunctory, but the tone brooked no refusal.
Jiang Luoyue and Li Changting exchanged a look, straightened their clothes, and followed the puppet out.
After navigating a labyrinth of corridors, the puppet pushed open a set of heavy, ornate doors. A man sat upon a high dais, sipping wine and ignoring their entry.
“Master, the people have been brought,” the puppet announced before departing.
The man wore a black robe embroidered with complex patterns in gold thread, a belt accentuating his lean waist. He held a book in one hand and a wine cup in the other. Only after finishing his wine did he look up from his reading.
He set the book down and studied them. “How did you get here?”
“What?” Li Changting and Jiang Luoyue looked at each other, their confused expressions appearing genuine.
The man looked at them with slight disdain. “This is the Nether Abyss. Even the four City Lords require my permission to enter. I change the entrance location every time; even they don’t know how to find me. How did two disciples from the immortal sects find their way here?”
Hearing “Nether Abyss,” the realization hit them—the man before them was the Demon Sovereign.
“We accidentally entered an illusion and were heavily injured,” Jiang Luoyue explained. “When we woke up, we were here. We have no idea how it happened.”
The Demon Sovereign, Yun Jian, frowned at her. “Though you don’t look particularly bright, I still cannot take your word for it.”
As soon as he finished speaking, he raised his hand. Jiang Luoyue was seized by an invisible force at her throat and hoisted into the air.
“Lord Demon Sovereign! We have told no lies! Please spare my Junior Sister!” Li Changting knelt in a panic.
Yun Jian ignored him and initiated a Soul Search to view her memories—the most direct way to see if someone was lying. Usually, a Soul Search depends on the target’s resistance; if they fight it, their body suffers damage. Most people instinctively resist having their private memories invaded.
Fortunately, Luan Yao warned her in time. Jiang Luoyue didn’t resist at all. However, right before arriving at the Nether Abyss, she and Li Changting had… enjoyed a round of “recovery.”
As long as she wasn’t embarrassed, the embarrassment belonged to the person watching the memory.
As Yun Jian watched the chaotic, intimate scenes in her mind, his ears began to turn hot. Out of sheer awkwardness, he missed the fact that Li Changting’s body had recovered unnaturally fast.
He released Jiang Luoyue and cleared his throat awkwardly. “Fine. You weren’t lying.”
“I haven’t interacted with immortal cultivators in a long time,” Yun Jian added. “You two shall stay here and keep me company for a while.”
His tone sounded less like an invitation and more like: “I haven’t had a pet in ages; you two can be my pets for a bit.”
Jiang Luoyue and Li Changting exchanged a glance. They still needed to investigate the missing cultivators; staying by the Sovereign’s side might yield some clues. They both accepted.
“You, come here and grind ink for me,” Yun Jian pointed at Jiang Luoyue. Then he looked at Li Changting. “I am going to refine an artifact; you shall stand guard for me.”
The Demon Sovereign is an Artifact Refiner? Jiang Luoyue was surprised.
Yun Jian had lived for many, many years. In the boredom of the Nether Abyss, he had run out of things to do. Once he reached the Great Transformation stage, he felt he was strong enough, so he picked up artifact refining as a hobby, alongside calligraphy and reading. To him, refining was as amusing as a mortal craftsman making trinkets.
