- The Junior Sister Isn't Flirtatious At All; It's All Their Fault for Being Too Seductive
- Chapter 61 - A Prince’s Study Companion?
Jiang Luoxing’s movements were severely restricted. This white tiger possessed the dual powers of lightning and ice—both exceptionally aggressive elements. At this stage, Jiang Luoxing could only barely manage to hold his ground.
He swung his sword to deflect the white tiger’s pouncing strikes. Seizing a moment when the beast showed signs of fatigue, he bit his fingertip and smeared his blood across the blade. Channeling every drop of his spiritual energy, he delivered a decisive, fatal blow.
The white tiger was thrown back. Realizing it was no match for Jiang Luoxing, it retreated into its cave. The trial for this layer was officially complete.
“I’m finished. You two certainly gathered quite a lot of herbs,” Jiang Luoxing remarked, his eyes landing on Lin Xi’s hands, which were overflowing with spiritual flora.
Lin Xi was busy stuffing the plants into his storage pouch. “Not bad. You were much faster than I expected.”
“Did the tiger leave an inner core for you?” Lin Xi asked.
Jiang Luoxing frowned. He had indeed seen a glowing orb where the white tiger had been standing. However, the tiger hadn’t died; why would it leave its core behind? It wasn’t as if every person who passed the trial could just take one. Where would the tiger get so many?
“To be precise, this isn’t the life-bound core of a demon. It’s a condensation of fifty years of cultivation and spiritual power,” Lin Xi explained. “But one mustn’t be too greedy. You need to refine it slowly, or you risk your body exploding from the surge of power.”
“I see.” Jiang Luoxing understood now. Lin Xi had intentionally let him face the tiger so he could have the core.
“My thanks to the Demon King,” Jiang Luoxing said, clasping his hands in a formal salute.
“Think nothing of it. We’re all family now,” Lin Xi said with a casual wave of his hand.
Jiang Luoxing felt a surge of warmth. This was exactly why he would squabble with other men for Jiang Luoyue’s favor, yet still listen to Yue Wenqiu’s advice. Deep down, the men around his sister looked out for him—they treated one another like family.
“The Great Demon of the next floor is at the Soul Transformation stage. I’ll handle that one,” Lin Xi said.
“And I’ll help,” Jiang Luoyue added with a smile.
It made sense now. Every time a Great Demon was defeated, it yielded a core. Likely very few people in the cultivation world could pass all three layers of the Demon Tribe’s Secret Realm to reach the Divine Beast Ruins.
The Great Demon of the second layer was a colossal falcon. When its wings unfurled, they practically blotted out the sun.
“What a powerful aura,” Jiang Luoyue couldn’t help but marvel. No one could resist the allure of such a mighty creature. “It’s a pity it has fallen. If this falcon were still alive, the Immortal Sects and the Demonic Tribe would certainly fear the Demon Tribe a bit more.”
Lin Xi let out a light laugh and transformed. He was no longer a small, cute fox, but a massive Nine-Tailed Fox, radiating an overwhelming pressure.
“Sister, go help him. I’ll dig up the spiritual herbs nearby so I won’t get in your way,” Jiang Luoxing said.
Jiang Luoyue laughed at the sight of him obediently holding his trowel. “Alright.”
While Jiang Luoxing gathered spiritual plants, he also found spiritual ores and remains of magical insects, such as the Cold Spirit Beetle shells, which could be used for forging equipment. He collected everything he saw, determined to pack his storage pouch to the brim.
The Great Falcon was not pleased. It let out a piercing shriek and dove toward Jiang Luoxing.
“Not good! Those shiny things are treasures the falcon collected when it was alive!” Lin Xi’s internal alarm bells rang.
Lin Xi moved with lightning speed, leaping in front of Jiang Luoxing to intercept the attack. Jiang Luoxing, however, was no fool; he quickly deployed a defensive artifact.
“I don’t know whether to praise your eye for treasure or not, but you certainly picked the best ones,” Lin Xi noted, glancing at the hoard in the boy’s arms.
Jiang Luoxing snorted. “If I’m taking things, of course I’m taking the best.”
Jiang Luoyue tossed the Green Infant Sword to Jiang Luoxing. “Hold onto this.”
As her cultivation had risen, her control over spiritual energy and her comprehension of sword intent had surpassed most. She raised her hand, and spiritual energy condensed into a blade of pure light in her palm. She slashed toward the falcon.
Lin Xi had never seen this technique before; she was even more formidable than he had imagined. He leaped into the air, and the two of them began a coordinated assault.
The falcon beat its wings, sending out a barrage of wind blades. They wove through the attacks with agile precision. Since the falcon was only at the early stage of Soul Transformation—and both Jiang Luoyue and Lin Xi were at the same level—dealing with it wasn’t overly difficult.
Eventually, the falcon was dissipated. Though it was only a remnant of divine sense left in the illusion, its defeat signaled they had passed the trial. A deep blue inner core appeared where it had vanished.
“Luoyue, this is for you,” Lin Xi said, offering the core to her.
“Aren’t you going to use it?” Jiang Luoyue felt a bit hesitant, as Lin Xi had done most of the heavy lifting.
“I suspect you want to become stronger even more than I do,” Lin Xi said with a smile. “Yue Wenqiu isn’t just being generous; he wants more people to protect you. But having the ability to protect yourself is more important. We can’t be by your side every second.”
Jiang Luoyue didn’t refuse further. “You’re right.”
“However, that means Luoyue will have to protect us more in the future,” Lin Xi teased, blinking his beautiful fox eyes.
Jiang Luoyue laughed and pinched his soft fox ear. “Mhm. No one shall harm my little fox.”
Jiang Luoxing tied his storage bag and stepped between them. “Sister, let’s go to the next layer. The little turtle is burning up.”
“Right.” Jiang Luoyue nodded. She knew Luoxing was just trying to interrupt them, but she was genuinely worried about the turtle.
If the falcon on the second layer was a Soul Transformation demon, the power on the third layer would be immense.
“How did you get through before?” Jiang Luoyue asked Lin Xi.
“I brought Wenwu with me. Both Wenwu and Wenqing were my father’s trusted men; their abilities are naturally top-tier,” Lin Xi explained.
“Ah, I thought they were your… well, like a Prince’s study companions,” Jiang Luoyue said in surprise. Recalling their appearance, they did look older than Lin Xi. If Lin Xi looked like he was in his early twenties, Wenwu and Wenqing looked closer to thirty.
They certainly carried the weary aura of experienced attendants.
“Pfft. If anything, they were more like the Prince’s Imperial Tutors,” Lin Xi joked.
“Can the three of us win?” Jiang Luoyue asked.
Lin Xi was silent for a few seconds. “The third Great Demon is at the mid-stage of Soul Transformation. If we give it our all, we should be able to do it.”
There was a significant gap between the early and mid-stages of Soul Transformation—much larger than the gap between Foundation Establishment and Golden Core.
As they entered the third layer, the Great Demon had yet to appear, but they were immediately enveloped in a thick, heavy demonic mist. The pressure was staggering.
In Jiang Luoyue’s arms, even the little turtle began to tremble.
