The Innocent 'Green Tea' Alpha at Home is Actually My Boss - Chapter 9
Watching the car vanish into the night, Lu Lin began walking into the residential compound while dialing a number.
Wan Tianhai, who was currently being cornered in conversation by Fang Wenbin, felt his phone vibrate. He stepped away to a quieter spot and pressed the answer button with utmost respect: “Boss.”
“My car is parked in the Pingyue Hotel parking lot. Find a designated driver to take it to Zhuyizhuang.”
Wan Tianhai was puzzled. “Zhuyizhuang? Haven’t you been staying at Cuiya Garden lately?”
“I won’t be driving for the time being. I’ll be taking the bus and the subway. Currently, I am just a newcomer who has recently debuted and needs to rely on my ‘Brother’.” Lu Lin reminded Wan Tianhai of his persona without changing his expression.
“…Understood. I happen to be at the Pingyue Hotel right now; I’ll help move the car to Zhuyizhuang in a moment.” Hearing the last few words, Wan Tianhai almost failed to find his voice.
“The keys are at the front desk.” Lu Lin sat down on his apartment sofa. Under the bright yellow light, his expression was cold and stern. “Additionally, pull up all the information you have on Fang Wenbin.”
“Fang Wenbin?” Wan Tianhai repeated the name softly, casting a discreet glance toward Fang Wenbin, who was laughing and chatting with the production director not far away.
“Yes. Look into him thoroughly. Investigate what he did to Sang Weilian in the past.”
Upon hearing this, Wan Tianhai understood immediately. “Understood.”
“Boss, I have one more thing to report.”
“Speak.”
“Chairman Lu has found out that you… didn’t personally take office. He is returning to the country next week.”
Lu Lin had long expected that the matter couldn’t be hidden forever, but he hadn’t expected his father, who was across the ocean, to find out so quickly. If he returned now, it would be disastrous if the secret slipped out in front of Sang Weilian.
“Don’t let him go through the trouble of the trip. Book me a flight to the United States for tomorrow. I will go and explain it to him personally.”
“Understood.”
In the dim back seat of the car, Sang Weilian brushed his fingertip against his lower lip, letting out a sharp “hiss” as he drew in a breath.
The skin wasn’t broken, but they had kissed for so long that his lips felt hot and slightly swollen. The scent of Lu Lin’s pheromones still lingered in his mouth, and he suspected the car was likely filled with their blended scents.
For some reason, Sang Weilian looked guiltily at the back of Wang Gu’s head as he focused on driving.
Fortunately, Wang Gu was a Beta and couldn’t smell pheromones; otherwise, Sang Weilian wouldn’t have been able to sit in this car for another second!
The car pulled steadily to a stop downstairs before Sang Weilian broke the silence. “Pick me up tomorrow morning at nine to go to the hospital.”
“To the hospital? What’s wrong?” Wang Gu turned around hastily.
“Tomorrow is the day for my regular check-up.” Sang Weilian arched an eyebrow. “What? Did you forget?”
Wang Gu stared in surprise. “Of course I didn’t forget, but since when have you been so proactive about going to the hospital for a check-up?”
Because the results were abnormal every single time, Sang Weilian usually avoided checking his pheromone levels like the plague. He often used work as an excuse, delaying it for months at a time before finally agreeing to go.
For him to actually follow doctor’s orders and want to go on time and of his own volition—how could Wang Gu not be shocked?
“Is there a problem?” Sang Weilian countered.
“Of course not!” Wang Gu wished he would check up on time more often; after all, health was the most important thing. “I’ll definitely be here to pick you up on time tomorrow!”
Fearing Sang Weilian might back out, he emphasized loudly as the other man pushed the door open to exit: “You better not stand me up!”
The next day, Sang Weilian saw the exact same expression of shock on the doctor’s face that he had seen on Wang Gu the night before.
“Doctor Xu, are you surprised to see me at the hospital too?” Sang Weilian couldn’t help but ask.
“Of course… I’m surprised.” Doctor Xu gave a sheepish smile. Having not seen him for a while, Sang Weilian’s temper actually seemed to have improved. “I’ll take you for the routine tests.”
“Okay.” Sang Weilian stood up and followed Doctor Xu to the private pheromone sampling room.
After the familiar round of tests, the initial lab reports came back.
After printing the report, Doctor Xu sat at his desk for a long time, staring intently at that thin sheet of paper.
Seeing his expression shift between gravity and skepticism without saying a word for ages, Sang Weilian frowned and asked, “Is it the same as before?”
It shouldn’t be. Recently, he hadn’t suffered from insomnia, nor had he experienced dizziness or loss of appetite. There should be some improvement.
Could it be only temporary?
“It’s different,” Doctor Xu finally spoke. “Has something happened recently? Six of your indicators have returned to normal. The pheromone concentration level, in particular, has dropped from over 600 to 300 it’s very close to the normal range of 168 to 242.”
“Do you know what this means? It means that as your indicators gradually normalize, you will no longer be affected by Pheromone Disorder Syndrome! You won’t have such an intense physical rejection of other Alphas anymore!”
“However… the indicators related to your heat period are still roughly the same as before. It’s not that there’s no change, but compared to the others, it’s very insignificant.”
Sang Weilian took the report from his hand. He scanned the data over and over again, finally confirming that this report was completely different from any he had received since birth.
The directness of the data was even more certain than what he had felt himself.
“Could this be temporary?” Sang Weilian, more than anyone, hoped this wasn’t just a fluke. He wanted a definitive answer that his pheromone disorder could be cured.
“That’s why I’m asking what have you done lately? If you’ve been taking special medication, it might just be temporary. Taking excessive suppressants along with certain other drugs can also cause this phenomenon.”
The scene of Sang Weilian leaving the clinic with a double dose of suppressants last time was still fresh in his mind. Doctor Xu didn’t even consider other possibilities, and his expression turned serious.
“I haven’t been taking suppressants,” Sang Weilian denied. After a moment, he added, “I used five doses.”
Those were all taken before his heat. After spending the heat with Lu Lin, he hadn’t used them again.
“Oh, and I used blocking agents twice.”
“Blocking agents? Why would you use those?” Doctor Xu was puzzled. Blocking agents were used to mask the scent of pheromones, something Sang Weilian didn’t usually do.
Sang Weilian pursed his thin lips. After a long pause, he said, “To cover an Alpha’s pheromones. I was in heat half a month ago and stayed with an Alpha. He gave me a temporary mark.”
“This is that Alpha’s hair.”
As he spoke, Sang Weilian pulled a transparent plastic bag from his pocket. Inside was a single, finger-length strand of dark hair.
Doctor Xu’s mouth hung open in shock. “An A-Alpha? You actually found an Alpha?!”
“…It was an accident.” Seeing him so shocked, Sang Weilian was already used to it. “Can you match the pheromones using his hair?”
“Yes. Shall I test the compatibility between this Alpha and you?”
Sang Weilian nodded. “Yes, please.”
“Wait a moment.” Doctor Xu took the small plastic bag containing the hair and walked out of the consulting room.
During the wait, Wang Gu stepped out to take a work call, leaving Sang Weilian alone in the room.
He idly scrolled through fan comments for a while until a notification popped up with a message from Lu Lin.
He thought it would be a routine report, but when he clicked it, it was a photo of an airport waiting lounge.
S_: At the airport?
Lu Lin: [Selfie.jpg]
Two messages appeared in the chat box almost simultaneously.
Sang Weilian clicked on Lu Lin’s selfie. In the shot, the other man had pulled down his black mask, revealing a high, elegant bridge of his nose. His thin lips were curved upward in what looked like a forced, slightly stiff smile. He clearly wasn’t used to taking photos, which gave him a bit of a silly air, yet it didn’t diminish his handsomeness in the slightest.
LLin: Yes, I have to go home for a bit.
LLin: Just four days. I’ll be back very soon.
S_: Okay.
LLin: Does Brother have any plans for these next few days?
S_: Me? Work, sleep.
LLin: [Twiddling fingers.gif]
LLin: Then I wish Brother smooth work and good rest.
LLin: I will also work hard to improve my skills these few days. I’ll definitely be back as soon as possible.
Sang Weilian narrowed his eyes at those two sentences for a while, sensing a slightly different meaning behind them.
Was Lu Lin trying to curry favor with him, his benefactor?
After a moment, he let out a low laugh, his rounded, pale fingertips tapping out a reply.
S_: Is that so? How are you going to improve?
LLin: By watching videos and reading books to learn, supplemented by notes to deepen the memory.
He certainly has a way with words.
Sang Weilian swung his legs slightly.
S_: Practice brings true knowledge.
LLin: [Teardun-eyed.gif][Tearful-eyed.gif]
LLin: I’ll come back quickly.
LLin: Or else, three days!
S_: Why the rush?
LLin: I won’t practice elsewhere. If I am to practice, it will only be when Brother needs me.
LLin: Just as Brother won’t look for anyone else, I won’t look for anyone else either, right? [Well-behaved.jpg]
Sang Weilian suddenly realized. After beating around the bush for so long, it turned out Lu Lin was afraid of falling out of favor.
S_: I’m busy. I don’t want an outsider adding to the mess.
LLin: Exactly. Outsiders aren’t like me. Brother is so good to me, I will definitely consider Brother’s interests in everything [Happy.jpg]
Glittering tongue.
Sang Weilian was teased into a laugh. Coincidentally, Doctor Xu and Wang Gu returned to the room one after the other, so he quickly ended the conversation.
S_: I have things to do. Have a safe trip.
He looked up. “Doctor Xu, how is it?”
“I pulled this person’s pheromone genes from the Alpha database and ran a compatibility test with yours,” Doctor Xu said, then fell silent for a long time.
Sang Weilian frowned. “What? Are the results bad?”
That shouldn’t be the case. When he first met Lu Lin, he was attracted to the point of losing control by the other’s Alpha pheromones. Shouldn’t that physical attraction represent a decent compatibility?
“On the contrary!” Doctor Xu excitedly handed over the compatibility test report.
“The pheromone compatibility between you and this Alpha is as high as 97.99%! You should know that the current authoritative consensus is that a compatibility of 85% is already considered an extremely suitable AO pairing for a lifetime mark.”
“This near-perfect percentage between you two is one in ten thousand. You are simply a match made in heaven!”
Sang Weilian blinked. He didn’t have much of a concept of authoritative data, but 97.99% was indeed a very high number. “Such a coincidence…”
“Yes! This Alpha can definitely help you cure your Pheromone Disorder Syndrome; it’s only a matter of time.” Doctor Xu spoke earnestly. “Of course, putting aside my role as a doctor, I also hope you can cherish this hard-won destiny.”
“Forget about destiny,” Sang Weilian interrupted him. He slowly rolled up the thin report. Before pulling up his mask, he gave a short, light laugh. “I am cold-hearted and fickle. It doesn’t suit me.”
