The Innocent 'Green Tea' Alpha at Home is Actually My Boss - Chapter 24
Two days ago, at the Xicheng Film and Television Base
“Wenbin, there’s a package for you.” Wang Jie held a coffee in one hand and a pile of express deliveries in the other. “Oof, this is exhausting. This place is truly cold and dry.”
“You think I’m not cold?” Fang Wenbin rolled his eyes irritably. Wu Liao was still in custody, and the mysterious big boss behind Guangyue Entertainment hadn’t shown their face at all. Relying solely on himself, without background or power, where was he supposed to get good resources?
“This new behind-the-scenes boss is really a tough nut to crack. I don’t think Wan Tianhai has any intention of letting you meet that person at all,” Wang Jie couldn’t help but complain.
Before Fang Wenbin could speak, the film crew’s makeup artist knocked and entered. He shut his mouth resentfully and buried his head in unpacking the deliveries.
“What is this?”
An envelope that looked completely out of place among the ordinary packages appeared. For some reason, Fang Wenbin felt uneasy just looking at it.
He tore open the seal; inside were only two thin sheets of paper.
“Teacher Fang, I’m ready to help you with your makeup over here.” The makeup artist looked over and saw Fang Wenbin staring fixedly at the document, his face extremely pale. Concerned, she asked, “Teacher Fang, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
“What is it?” Seeing that his state was wrong, Wang Jie leaned over to see for himself.
The moment he saw the contents of the paper clearly, his face suddenly changed as well. He snapped at the makeup artist with a terrible tone, “You, get out first!”
The makeup artist, shouted at for no apparent reason, left feeling very aggrieved.
“Who sent this?” Wang Jie asked while flipping the envelope over. Unfortunately, it was an anonymous piece; even the sender’s address was virtual.
He kicked over a chair in frustration. “Damn it! I told you to take precautions when you were following Wu Liao, but no, you just had to let him mark you!”
“That’s enough! Can I be blamed for being in heat?!” Fang Wenbin roared back, exasperated. In his agitation, his Titan Arum-scented pheromones drifted out uncontrollably.
Wang Jie covered his nose and retreated repeatedly. “Pull in your pheromones. The problem isn’t that anymore; it’s that someone discovered you had your mark removed and twice at that! If this gets out, how are you going to maintain your ‘pure and cute’ persona? You won’t be able to stay in this industry anymore!”
Fang Wenbin’s face turned deathly pale as he yelled back, “Do you think I don’t know that?!”
“Have you offended anyone recently? Otherwise, why would someone specifically dig this up and send it to you?” The more Wang Jie thought about it, the more suspicious it felt. “Clearly, making it public directly would be a devastating blow to you. At the very least, they could have used it to threaten you for hush money, but the other party did nothing.”
“It’s a warning,” Fang Wenbin said with a grim face.
“A warning?”
Fang Wenbin instinctively thought of Sang Weilian. “Besides Sang Weilian, I can’t think of anyone else. I targeted him everywhere before; maybe he already knows that we were the ones who bought the water soldiers to spread rumors and muddy the waters, so he wants to warn me.”
“The outside world has always known you two don’t get along. If something happens to you, public opinion will definitely lean toward saying Sang Weilian intentionally sabotaged you, which would surely affect him. So, warning you not to act rashly is actually quite logical.”
“Wu Liao helped with the mark removals back then. He said he found an agency where an acquaintance of his worked. Do you know what it’s called?”
Wang Jie shook his head repeatedly. “If even you don’t know, how would I? We can only ask him in person.”
“Spend money to find someone to investigate. Find out exactly which detention center he is in now.” Because his biggest secret had been discovered by someone unknown hiding in the shadows, Fang Wenbin was so nervous and terrified that his hands were shaking. He had exerted so much effort to get to where he was today; he could never retreat from the limelight. “No, I need to see Wan Tianhai. Immediately!”
“As long as I tell him I was forced by Wu Liao, won’t that be fine?”
Wang Jie felt this made sense. “Right! We’ll strike first. We can’t wait until the matter is brought into the open to talk to the company by then the PR won’t be in time!”
The two finished their discussion and quickly requested leave from the crew, catching an overnight flight back to Haicheng.
That afternoon, the elevator rose slowly from the underground parking lot.
“In a moment, when you see Acting CEO Wan, don’t just start talking about the mark removal. Transition into it tactfully,” Wang Jie advised. “We’ve had too little contact with Wan Tianhai. To be honest, I still haven’t figured out his personality.”
“And, we have to be prepared for him being unwilling to protect you.” For some reason, Wang Jie had a faint, nagging bad feeling in his heart.
“Why wouldn’t he protect me? I’m an A-lister! He was able to help Sang Weilian wash away so much negative public opinion; I’m not any worse than Sang Weilian, so why wouldn’t he protect me?” Fang Wenbin loathed being looked down upon most of all. What others had, he must have!
Wang Jie repeatedly gestured for him to lower his voice, but he himself was getting anxious, and his tone rose uncontrollably. “I know, but this mark removal thing is much more serious and you did it twice! You know that yourself!”
The two were so caught up in their argument that they didn’t notice the elevator doors opening on the first floor.
Lu Lin was standing outside, having heard only the latter half of Wang Jie’s sentence.
Fang Wenbin caught sight of him from the corner of his eye, and his expression instantly soured even further.
Wang Jie noticed him too and fell silent.
The two were acting like thieves with guilty consciences. They didn’t know how much Lu Lin had heard; they felt that even if he had heard a single word, it would be the death of them.
Lu Lin ignored the panic that was almost overflowing from the two and walked into the elevator with an expressionless face.
He had come today to retrieve the headphones he had forgotten with Wan Tianhai what was his had to remain his—and incidentally, to discuss the arrangements for important work after joining the film crew on Friday.
But the calmer he was, the more panicked the two behind him became, and Fang Wenbin was especially displeased.
Fang Wenbin still remembered the unpleasant encounter at Pingyue Restaurant. Later, even after joining the crew to film, he hadn’t been able to vent that frustration.
Now that they had bumped into each other in the elevator, and his biggest secret might have been exposed, if he asked directly, it would be a dead giveaway. So, he simply gave up on caution and acted calm while speaking with snide sarcasm, trying to divert Lu Lin’s attention elsewhere. “How come I don’t see you following behind your brother today?”
“Teacher Fang seems to care about my brother even more than his fans do.” Lu Lin turned around, his smile not reaching his eyes. “Could it be… that you’re actually a fan of my brother, and you have some anonymous sub-account secretly cheering him on?”
“Hanging out with Sang Weilian really does make one sick!” Fang Wenbin was disgusted by the remark and couldn’t hold his temper at all. He only had sub-accounts used for cursing Sang Weilian!
Lu Lin was still smiling, but a dark shadow flickered in his eyes. His gaze swept over the express delivery bag in Fang Wenbin’s hand, and he quickly realized that what was inside should be the items he had ordered Wan Tianhai to send.
Thus, in a tone that was level yet cold, he said, “Is that so? But as far as I know, something like having a mark removed twice isn’t very honorable.”
Fang Wenbin and Wang Jie felt as if they had fallen into an ice cellar.
He really heard it. He really heard it!
“You’re talking nonsense…” Fang Wenbin instinctively tried to retort, but the elevator doors slowly opened, causing him to fall silent instantly.
Several employees were outside. Fang Wenbin’s expression froze. Sensing the awkward atmosphere, the crowd gave small greetings and filed in silently. Because there were many people, the elevator was suddenly packed, and the three of them were pushed into two separate corners.
The silence inside the elevator was suffocating as people got on and off.
Given the situation, Lu Lin felt that going to the 57th floor would risk exposing his identity. He simply abandoned his original plan and got off early, deciding to head to his acting class instead.
Fang Wenbin gripped the envelope tightly, watching Lu Lin leave with cold palms. However, he belatedly realized that even if he forced the man to stay, an elevator was not a good place for questioning. So, after taking several deep breaths, he still decided to find Wan Tianhai first.
To prevent Lu Lin from disappearing, he specifically instructed Wang Jie, “Find someone to keep an eye on Lu Lin. I want to find him later.”
“Understood. He obviously heard it; we can’t let him go around talking.” Wang Jie certainly understood and immediately made a phone call to arrange for someone.
Half an hour later, a red-eyed Fang Wenbin emerged from Wan Tianhai’s office, looking completely as if he had suffered a great grievance. Once inside the elevator, his expression changed again, looking as if he hadn’t cried at all.
“What exactly did Wan Tianhai mean by that?” Fang Wenbin frowned in dissatisfaction. “What does ‘will appropriately intervene as long as the artist contract is not violated’ mean?”
“Forget it. Only I, you, and Wu Liao know the inside story of the mark removals. Wu Liao is being held by the police and we can’t see him; Wan Tianhai certainly can’t either. If we bite down hard on our story, who will know the truth? How will they say we violated the artist contract then?” Wang Jie patted him. “For now, let’s leave it at that. I’ll destroy this envelope as soon as we get back!”
“Where’s Lu Lin?”
“He’s in acting class. It ends in five minutes.” Wang Jie checked the message sent by his informant on his phone.
Fang Wenbin narrowed his eyes. “Bring him to my lounge.”
Lu Lin had anticipated that Fang Wenbin would definitely come looking for trouble. He wasn’t surprised by Wang Jie’s behavior of cornering him at the door of the acting classroom, and naturally, he didn’t refuse.
However, as they reached the outside of Fang Wenbin’s lounge, he stopped. “It’s not appropriate for an Alpha like me to enter an Omega’s lounge. If Teacher Fang wants to see me, please change the location.”
Fang Wenbin, who was suppressing a belly full of rage because of Wan Tianhai’s ambiguous guarantee, stood up irritably. He signaled Wang Jie to push him in.
Wang Jie didn’t think much of it and reached out to push Lu Lin’s back, but Lu Lin didn’t budge an inch.
His height of just over 170cm was nothing in front of the 189cm Lu Lin. Especially when meeting Lu Lin’s cold gaze, his hand froze mid-air, and he suddenly felt a sense of terror as if a knife were being held to his throat.
Lu Lin didn’t release even a hint of pheromones; he relied solely on his own aura to make Fang Wenbin, standing inside the lounge, freeze in his tracks.
Fang Wenbin felt fear. This was an Alpha. Even if he was just an undebuted rookie actor, it didn’t change the fact that Lu Lin was an Alpha.
The three of them fell into a stalemate, the temperature dropping to freezing point, until the elevator doors opened and the sound of footsteps broke the silence.
The newcomer was walking very fast. The person following behind was almost at a trot, panting while running, “Slow down, walk slower!”
Lu Lin’s ears twitched. His feet stumbled, and his whole body lunged forward in a massive stagger, falling straight into Fang Wenbin’s lounge and landing right at his feet.
Fang Wenbin looked terrified, and Wang Jie was even more shocked.
“I… I didn’t push him!”
At the corner of the corridor, Sang Weilian saw Lu Lin fall. With a dark face, he walked over quickly, pushed aside Wang Jie who was blocking the door, and knelt down to check on Lu Lin’s condition.
Lu Lin used his right hand to brace himself and slowly sat up, showing Sang Weilian his hand, which was still properly wrapped in gauze.
“Brother, my hand is fine.”
“I just didn’t stand firmly. Teacher Fang’s manager definitely didn’t push me. I’m okay.”
His eyes were slightly downcast, the eagle-like sharpness gone, his eyes red, and there was a red mark on his forehead from the impact.
Sang Weilian’s lips were pulled into a tight line. He helped him up and looked at Wang Jie with a cold sneer before turning his gaze to Fang Wenbin. “Teacher Fang certainly puts on a grand display of authority. If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were engaging in workplace bullying.”
