The Innocent 'Green Tea' Alpha at Home is Actually My Boss - Chapter 11
“Teacher Sang, good morning.” He Ming was about the same height as Wang Gu and was also a Beta. Wearing a well-pressed suit paired with an overly neat bowl cut, he didn’t look like a director; instead, he looked more like an insurance salesman.
Sang Weilian shook his hand politely and sat down across from him.
“This is the lead actor’s contract for Blind. I personally oversaw this copy for you, Teacher Sang, and all the investors have reviewed it. Please take a look.” He Ming seemed a bit nervous. “If you feel any of the terms are inappropriate, including the salary, just bring it up, and I will discuss it with the investors again.”
Sang Weilian took it but did not flip through it. Instead, he asked, “Director He, giving me this much autonomy do you have any other requirements?”
Although the line of people wanting to cast him could stretch from the eastern to the western side of China, according to his understanding, He Ming hadn’t been this easy to talk to in the past. At the very least, he wasn’t someone who enjoyed dealing with investors much.
The smile on He Ming’s face stiffened, seemingly unsure of how to explain.
“Speak plainly; I don’t like beating around the bush.” Sang Weilian handed the contract to Wang Gu to check, intending to hear He Ming’s thoughts himself. “Director He, your transition this time is quite a surprise to me. After all, having directed comedies until now, you’ve been nominated for the Golden Feather Best Director Award for five consecutive years.”
“Teacher Sang also knows it was only nominations.” He Ming’s face showed regret. “I don’t want to accept my fate. I want to win the award, even if it’s just once.”
“But period films… achieving success in that genre is much harder than in comedies.” He Ming wasn’t a fool; he shouldn’t have failed to consider this.
“I know this move is a gamble, but making movies is a high-stakes bet every time. Who can be certain that following a trend and filming a popular subject will definitely lead to a box office hit?”
Sang Weilian leaned back against his chair, feeling that these words were only half-true. “Director He, as you know, it has always been my place to pick the crew. If you don’t tell the truth, then no matter how good the script is, I feel it will be difficult for our cooperation to proceed.”
He Ming choked up. Before he could speak, Wang Gu, who was flipping through the contract, spoke up.
“The lead investor is Yuanlu International Group.”
Sang Weilian arched an eyebrow. Yuanlu International Group was a top-tier family enterprise in China, with industries spanning half the country’s sky. For nearly a century, no one had been able to surpass them. Market capitalization measured in the hundreds of billions was considered small for them. The group’s chairman, Lu Yuguo, was a celebrity who perennialy appeared at the top of global billionaire lists. Coincidentally, Sang Weilian’s current agency, Guangyue Entertainment, was also a branch under the group.
He Ming gave a sheepish smile. “Ye-yes. Actually, the script was provided by them as well. It’s an ‘Outstanding Work of the Year’ selected by Yuanjiang Reading, a subsidiary of their group in charge of the fiction market.”
“It looks like they invested a lot of money,” Sang Weilian realized.
“Not that much, just… this amount.” He Ming held up a hand and gestured the number “eight.”
If it were eight million, it would be truly insignificant alongside Yuanlu International. Therefore
“Eighty million!?” Wang Gu shouted out, his face full of shock.
“Yes.” He Ming scratched his head. “Yuanlu International didn’t openly select people this time. It’s said I was sent up on an internal recommendation list along with several other directors. I don’t know if the others either couldn’t fit it into their schedules or thought a period piece was destined to flop and were afraid of ruining their reputations, so none of them took it. Eventually, it fell to me.”
“I did hesitate at first, but they simply gave too much!”
Where else could one find such a massive investment these days?
“But… but! What I said earlier is indeed true. I’ve been a runner-up for the Best Director award for five years; I truly want to change paths to find a glimmer of hope. So, I want to try.” He Ming attempted to struggle, trying to salvage his image.
Wang Gu looked at Sang Weilian with some difficulty. “Weilian, you decide. Do you want to take this movie or not?”
Just as He Ming said, one careless move and it would be a dirty job that ruined a reputation.
“I’ll take it.” Sang Weilian snatched the contract and signed his name on the final page. “No one turns away money, and besides, this script isn’t bad.”
Businessmen are the most selfish and have the sharpest eyes. Furthermore, Yuanjiang Reading was China’s number one female-oriented fiction website; an “Outstanding Work of the Year” would definitely not be bad. Yuanlu would never do something as stupid and thankless as shooting themselves in the foot.
He Ming happily took back the contract. “Then I welcome Teacher Sang to the crew. I believe with you here, I won’t worry about the box office at all. As for the food and housing after joining the crew, it will all be top-tier. You can also bring up any special requirements.”
“Have the other actors been decided?” Sang Weilian asked.
He Ming was curious. “Most of them are set, but the role of Luo Tu hasn’t been decided yet. Does Teacher Sang have a candidate to recommend?”
Wang Gu’s expression changed, fearing Sang Weilian would recommend Lu Lin; his heart leaped into his throat.
Sang Weilian’s tone was flat. “No, I was just curious, since Luo Tu is the character I have the most scenes with.”
“Shall I pull you into the crew’s group chat? It will be easier to notify everyone of anything in the group. Once the role of Luo Tu is decided, it will be convenient for you to add that teacher as a friend.”
“Mm.”
As soon as Sang Weilian entered the group chat, a crowd of people lined up to welcome him. He gave a polite greeting and then stopped looking.
He chatted with He Ming for a while longer about other matters regarding joining the production, and then they walked together toward the underground parking garage.
“Teacher Sang, I’ll be heading out first. Hard work to both of you today. See you in March.”
Once He Ming drove away, Sang Weilian said, “You go back too.”
Wang Gu was startled. “I don’t need to drop you off?”
“No need. I’m going to the airport to pick someone up. I’m afraid you’d be scared to death if you saw Lu Lin later.”
Wang Gu gave an awkward laugh. “Wasn’t I just afraid you’d actually get hot-headed and recommend Lu Lin to play your rival? As expected, you’re still the Teacher Sang I know, whose career-mindedness is number one in the world!”
Sang Weilian didn’t bother to respond and walked straight to his car parked at the company, soon driving toward the airport.
Wang Gu hummed a song while calculating Lu Lin’s itinerary for the next half month, and plugged in his car key.
When he looked up again, he saw a figure flash by. He turned his head and looked around strangely, but saw nothing except the fire hydrant box and a few cars.
The sound of the car leaving the underground parking garage faded away. A figure crouching behind a black van straightened up and let out a guilty sigh of relief.
“What are you doing skulking around here?!” A security guard walked over, gripping a baton.
Fully disguised, Liu Yingguang was startled. He quickly turned his body sideways and pointed at a nearby car. “I-I’m an artist’s assistant, a newcomer, waiting here for our teacher.”
The security guard looked at him suspiciously a few times, then looked at the car. “Oh, Teacher Fang’s assistant. Don’t be so sneaky; someone who didn’t know better would think you were here to steal something.”
“Yes, yes, sorry for the misunderstanding. I’ll take these things up to find Teacher Fang right now.” Liu Yingguang smiled apologetically, gripped his bag tightly, and trotted into the elevator.
The guard looked several more times, but eventually left, completely puzzled.
Lu Lin’s flight was delayed by half an hour. By the time Sang Weilian arrived at the airport, he had just landed.
The car door was pulled open, and Sang Weilian immediately saw the bump on his forehead. A day had passed, and the bruising was very obvious.
“Does it hurt?” His brow furrowed deeply.
“It hurts quite a bit. I didn’t feel it much yesterday, but maybe because it’s swollen today, it hurts,” Lu Lin said pitifully.
Sang Weilian leaned over, brushed aside the bangs on his forehead, and looked closely. “Have you seen a doctor at the hospital?”
It didn’t look like much, but since the injury was on the temple, he feared an accident.
“I’ve been. It’s no trouble.” The family doctor had already checked him; he was just in a hurry to come back and earn some sympathy.
“Really?” Sang Weilian lowered his eyes to meet his gaze.
The two were extremely close at this moment, their noses almost touching, their lips less than half an inch apart. Their breathing carried each other’s scent.
Lu Lin’s dark eyes were bright. When he spoke, his voice was low and hoarse. “Really. It just hurts a little. If Gege kisses me once, it will definitely feel better.”
A sweet and chilly mountain spring pheromone was gradually released, wrapping around Sang Weilian like invisible large hands, stroking every inch of his soft skin.
Having not seen each other for just a few days, Sang Weilian shouldn’t have succumbed, but Lu Lin’s pheromones smelled too good. Even perceiving just a little bit made him unable to stop himself.
The wild rose pheromones slipping out from every pore were even more indicative of the owner’s suppressed longing.
He lowered his head slightly and his lips touched Lu Lin’s.
But it was only for a brief moment before he separated from him again.
The corners of Lu Lin’s eyes were slightly red. His hands at his sides were clenched into fists, desperately restraining his urge to pull Sang Weilian into his arms. He said hoarsely, “Thanks, Ge. It’s much better now, doesn’t hurt as much.”
After saying that, he suddenly turned his head away, deliberately avoiding Sang Weilian’s gaze, and the distance between their tangled breath widened.
Sang Weilian was slightly stunned. His gaze fell on the other’s bright red earlobes and the corners of his eyes. After a short laugh, his finger pressed a button on the side.
The passenger seat suddenly reclined. Lu Lin seemed completely caught off guard, a look of shock on his face. His hand instinctively grabbed Sang Weilian’s arm, but his body actually fell back steadily, not letting Sang Weilian see any flaw.
Sang Weilian was pulled along and happened to fall on top of him. He simply straddled to the other side and changed to a comfortable position, sitting directly on top of him.
His long, slender white fingers followed the rolling of the other’s Adam’s apple downward, sliding all the way to the collarbone, then lingering below his thin lips. His breath puffed against his neck: “You didn’t hit anything, did you?”
“No.” Lu Lin shook his head, one hand resting on his thigh, his voice becoming even raspier. “Ge, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have pulled you just now…”
The rest of the words were entirely blocked in his throat. Sang Weilian pried open his teeth and entered directly.
After a moment, Lu Lin turned from defense to offense. One hand pressed against Sang Weilian’s waist, the other gripped the back of his fair neck, their lips and tongues entangling amidst their gasps.
Feeling a hint of something different, Lu Lin expertly reached his hand down.
Sang Weilian made a move to stop him. “We are in the car!”
“Ge, I learned some new techniques; I can help you.” Lu Lin snatched another kiss from his lips. “Don’t worry, I’ll clean it up.”
Ten minutes later, a low groan escaped Sang Weilian’s throat. He panted and arched his legs to recover for a moment, still sitting on Lu Lin, his gaze falling downward to the bulge in the other’s pants.
Just as he was considering whether to return the favor, the person beneath him propped himself up with one hand on the seat, meticulously cleaned up the mess with a wet wipe, and then thoughtfully tidied his messy collar, carefully buttoning every single button.
Throughout the process, aside from a flushed face, he didn’t say a word. If it weren’t for the tension at the corners of his mouth and the veins bulging on his neck from holding back and the thick mountain spring scent in the car Sang Weilian would have almost thought Lu Lin had no sexual interest in him.
“So well-behaved?” Sang Weilian lifted his chin. “Truly don’t need help?”
Lu Lin shook his head. “We are in the car; I can’t let Ge be wronged.”
This kid!
“Does helping me make you feel wronged?” Sang Weilian’s tone rose.
“Of course not!” Lu Lin said urgently. “Helping Ge is my good fortune, but in such a small place, it’s too much of a grievance for Ge. I… I can’t bear it.”
Slick-tongued!
Sang Weilian laughed out loud, realizing for the first time that he had a bit of a wicked sense of humor.
He climbed back into the driver’s seat, immersing himself in the overflowing mountain spring fragrance. He curled his lips and started the car. “Then bear with it. I’ll boil an egg for you when we get home.”
