- The Ice-Cold Beauty Senior Sister Keeps Falling for Her Own Theories
- Chapter 6 - Leaping Off the Cliff Together
Gongsun Muhan’s vision went black. This Feng Jie’s brain…
As the fragments of the dark blue nameplate scattered little by little at the edge of the cliff, everyone’s eyes turned to Feng Jie, their hearts rising to their throats.
A few seconds later, they discovered, Feng Jie was completely unharmed.
Standing behind and to the side of her, they couldn’t see her expression.
But Gongsun Muhan noticed that Feng Jie’s slightly widened eyes had momentarily frozen, carrying a trace of confusion.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. They should have realized it earlier, how could anyone so easily entrust their life to another? The nameplate must have been fake.
At that moment, Gongsun Muhan thought the same, though she had previously underestimated Feng Jie’s acting skills.
But Feng Jie was genuinely bewildered. The nameplate had shattered, yet she was unharmed and still alive?
Had fate chosen her at this moment?
A little voice in her mind shook its head, how could that be possible?
She had stolen it herself; it couldn’t be fake. That left only one possibility: this nameplate belonged to someone else! The creator must have made a mistake with the name!
Thinking this, a flicker of unease and guilt passed through her heart. Had she inadvertently caused someone else’s death?
But the immediate priority was to convince Gongsun Muhan.
In her urgency, she took a few steps forward. “Eldest Senior Sister, the nameplate might have been a mistake, but my intentions are genuine! I truly want to save you! Come over here, I swear I won’t let you die!”
The more Feng Jie spoke, the weaker her words sounded. Even she felt it was a futile defense.
“Heh!” Gongsun Muhan stared at her expressionlessly.
The nameplate couldn’t be wrong. Each nameplate was created by extracting a disciple’s core spiritual energy and channeling it through a specialized formation, generating the name autonomously. The only way it could be incorrect was if the formation itself was flawed. But that was clearly impossible, the nameplate formation was a closely guarded secret passed down through generations in every immortal sect. How could Feng Jie possibly have the ability to alter it? So, from the very beginning, the nameplate Feng Jie had given her was fake.
As for not letting her die, what a joke. Feng Jie probably didn’t realize that she already knew about her plans to torment and humiliate her.
Feng Jie certainly wouldn’t let her die, only turn her into a human pig, forcing her to live in agony and misery…
She pulled her thoughts back. The twilight ahead was deepening, and she could already make out the figures of those approaching in the distance.
Feng Jie stood to the side, her eyes darting around incessantly. She would never give up.
While muttering incessantly, she stealthily shifted her footing, preparing to resort to force.
If she could just get a little closer, she could seize the moment when the eldest senior sister was distracted, wrap her arms around her waist, and pull her back.
Steeling herself, she continued to plead for trust, trying to hold her attention: “Eldest Senior Sister, I’m really not lying. Why don’t you just take a look at this Memory Pearl?”
She pulled out another one and offered it.
“Eldest Senior Sister, I truly haven’t deceived you. I absolutely, wholeheartedly want to save you! If you don’t believe me, look, to obtain this Memory Pearl, I not only spent all my spirit stones and pawned my sword, but I was also stabbed…”
She wanted to use the wound on her shoulder as proof but realized the eldest senior sister hadn’t even spared her a glance.
Gongsun Muhan’s gaze was fixed intently on the approaching figures, gradually stepping backward.
If she were captured and taken back, it would be a fate worse than death.
Now, she could only gamble. While the effects of the Spirit Burst Pill hadn’t worn off, and with the miasma below the cliff and the jagged crevices on the cliff face for cover, she might just manage to survive.
“Criminal, surrender and accept your punishment!”
With an angry roar, a dazzling surge of purple spiritual energy swept through, ready to snatch Gongsun Muhan away in an instant.
Jump!
The opportunity was fleeting, never to return.
In the blink of an eye, Feng Jie lunged forward, aiming to wrap her arms around the waist of the senior sister.
As the arriving crowd landed, they witnessed Gongsun Muhan swiftly turning and stepping aside while Feng Jie, as if possessed, threw herself forward. The two of them plunged off the cliff together…
“Little, Little Junior Sister!”
“Little Junior Sister!”
One moment, Feng Jie was relieved to have successfully grabbed her senior sister’s waist; the next, she felt a chilling emptiness beneath her feet as her entire body hung in mid-air. She glanced down.
Below her lay a bottomless abyss of miasma.
The howling wind whistled past her ears like sharp blades, stinging her skin with painful intensity.
“Damn it!”
That must be the elders losing their temper.
“Xiao Jie.”
That was probably her senior sisters calling out.
“Little Junior Sister…”
That must be her senior brothers.
“Gongsun Muhan!”
Hmm, it was unexpected that someone still cared about the senior sister. Did that mean the likelihood of her turning dark had decreased a bit? But why did that voice sound so much like Chang Yuru…
Gongsun Muhan paused her struggle. It was Junior Sister Chang.
Seeing this, Feng Jie quickly tightened her arms, firmly locking onto the faint, lingering warmth.
She had already quietly accepted the fact that she and the senior sister were embracing as they fell off the cliff together, even though it was truly an accident.
As their descent accelerated and the height increased, all sounds from the cliff’s edge faded into silence.
“Let go.”
Without a second thought, she replied, “No.”
Afraid her senior sister wouldn’t believe her, she quickly added, “I won’t let go even if you kill me.”
After saying this, Feng Jie felt a cold sensation above her head, no doubt, the senior sister was staring at her.
Gongsun Muhan, while trying to pry off the hands tightly wrapped around her waist, turned her head expressionlessly to glare at Feng Jie, who had buried her face firmly into her shoulder.
That gaze felt like a serpent coiling tightly around her, and Feng Jie couldn’t stand it. She wanted to glare back.
The senior sister was slightly taller, so Feng Jie had to strain to look up, only to see the back of her senior sister’s full head, strands of loose hair occasionally brushing against her face, causing an irritating tickle. She pouted and shook them off forcefully, having forgotten that she was holding her from the side, not the front…
So, she and the senior sister couldn’t exchange glances, let alone glare back face-to-face…
In contrast to Feng Jie’s lively and erratic thoughts, Gongsun Muhan had only one goal in mind: to break free from Feng Jie, shake her off, and ideally use the reaction force to grab onto the nearby cliff wall.
She had no idea where Feng Jie found such determination, the arms wrapped around her waist were like welded iron. Gongsun Muhan felt that if she kept trying to pry them off, her own waist might break before they loosened.
If she tapped into the spiritual energy of the Explosive Spirit Pearl, she could break free, but if she used her energy here, she would have no last resort to save herself in this bottomless abyss.
She had to consider carefully.
Feng Jie, while holding onto her, continued her mental storm. She had made up her mind.
After all, the system had said that if Gongsun Muhan died, she would die too, but if she died, it would only be her own end…
Either way, she was doomed, so she might as well protect Gongsun Muhan. As long as the senior sister survived, there was a chance she could live too.
Besides, maybe there was a lake down below, that’s how it always played out in TV dramas, right?
With that thought, she crossed her legs, tightly wrapping them around Gongsun Muhan’s thighs and sliding downward, while using the leverage to arch her body upward. She wanted to envelop Gongsun Muhan as much as possible, to shield her head as best she could.
This way, even if she herself were to be badly injured upon landing, Gongsun Muhan would still have a chance to survive.
“You!”
Gongsun Muhan was already sweating and uncomfortable from the tight binding around her waist, and her mind was preoccupied with figuring out how to break free and escape. Now, with Feng Jie clinging to her restlessly, arching and rubbing against her, she instantly felt a surge of irritability, her entire body heating up.
She grabbed Feng Jie’s calf firmly. Her fingers were slender and long, almost encircling the calf completely. With considerable strength, she held on so tightly that Feng Jie couldn’t move for a moment.
“What are you doing?”
“Nothing much. I just wanted to shift upward a bit to see if I could use my chest to protect your head.”
Gongsun Muhan felt her vision darken. What on earth was going through Feng Jie’s mind?
“No need.”
“Let go.”
“Release me!”
Gongsun Muhan was already anxious. Although the cliff was deep, they would likely reach the bottom soon. She needed to break free quickly. On top of that, Feng Jie’s actions were making her extremely uncomfortable, and her tone was sharp and severe.
To Feng Jie’s ears, it was as cold and piercing as icicles hanging from eaves in the depths of winter. Yet all she wanted was to protect her, she truly only wanted to protect her!
A wave of grievance washed over her, and tears instantly burst forth, uncontrollable.
“I won’t let go.”
“I just won’t!”
“I already told you I’m trying to save you. Why don’t you believe me? Why? I’ve worked so hard, crawling through dog holes to steal nameplates, staying up all night to go down the mountain searching for Memory Pearls and demons, getting stabbed, helping you gather people. I even wanted to cushion your fall so you could survive! Why won’t you believe me… Waaah…”
Feng Jie’s crying grew louder and more unrestrained, a messy torrent of sobs.
At that moment, Gongsun Muhan wondered if Feng Jie had been possessed by something. Earlier, on the cliff, Feng Jie had openly wept and complained to her in front of everyone.
Large teardrops fell onto Gongsun Muhan’s shoulder, soaking her clothes and seeping in with a chill.
A flicker of clarity passed through Gongsun Muhan’s dark blue eyes. She released Feng Jie’s calf, seized the opportunity, bent her waist, and leaped, breaking free from Feng Jie’s grasp.
Moving against the momentum required immense effort. She was forced to use the last remnants of power from the Explosive Spirit Pill stored in her dantian to successfully propel herself several meters forward, aiming for the protruding stone ledge on the cliff wall.
Feng Jie abruptly shifted from falling vertically to tumbling horizontally. Her tears hadn’t even had time to react, lingering and swirling in her wide-eyed gaze.
“Gongsun Muhan! You black-hearted scoundrel! Attacking by surprise!”
The next second, both of them froze simultaneously.
This situation was completely unexpected.
Just as Gongsun Muhan’s foot touched the edge of the stone ledge, a ripple spread across a faintly shimmering barrier.
Gongsun Muhan was repelled by the barrier.
Feng Jie felt a surge of vindication. Serves you right for not believing me! I offered to cushion your fall, and you refused. Now we’ll both end up as flattened pancakes together.
She mentally cursed with fierce energy, though a trace of regret lingered. Was she really going to die like this? Her parents, her younger brother…
She closed her eyes, thinking that this way, she might see the people she longed for one last time.
The moment Gongsun Muhan was repelled, a wave of bitter resentment surged within her, overwhelming and relentless.
As a child, she was born with a mark on her face. Ignorant people, fearing calamities, saw her as a curse and sought to drown her.
In her youth, she possessed extraordinary talent and formidable spiritual power. The masses viewed her as an aberration, all eager to drag her down from the heights and destroy her.
Now, she endures humiliation merely to survive, yet people grow ever more relentless, bullying and shaming her, wishing to see her suffer a fate worse than death, to become a laughingstock…
Throughout her life, she had never encountered a single trace of genuine, heartfelt kindness, perhaps there was no such thing as goodness in this world.
If it existed at all, it was merely malice in disguise.
Gongsun Muhan turned over, facing Feng Jie directly, and noticed the curve at the corner of her lips.
She was smiling.
Feng Jie.
The name rolled over Gongsun Muhan’s tongue, leaving its imprint, deep and shallow.
The greatest kindness she had ever known in her life came from Feng Jie, yet the one who wounded her most deeply was also Feng Jie.
Plop.
Plop.
Two successive splashes echoed as ripples spread across the surface of the pool at the cliff’s base, the undulations clearing away much of the miasma above.
