The Host Has Fallen for the Second Female Lead Again - Chapter 85
“Half the money has been transferred; we’re just waiting for them to get the job done before we transfer the other half.”
They had thought it would be easy to handle one young girl with five of them, but who knew it would turn out like this? A few of them glanced at Ji Mingxiao, remembering her swift kicks and the stinging pepper spray. They all felt terrible.
Jian Huanhuan watched Ji Mingxiao coldly, “You suspected there was a problem.”
“Isn’t that obvious?” Ji Mingxiao smiled, glancing at Jian Huanhuan. “Didn’t you find it strange that I agreed so readily?”
Jian Huanhuan’s face darkened.
Lawyer Chu walked in, looked at Ji Mingxiao, then at Jian Huanhuan, and quickly led Ji Mingxiao out.
“Oh, by the way, I heard she gave you ten thousand. Could you please transfer it to me? It’s best to pay back the money sooner rather than later,” Ji Mingxiao said, giving a gentle smile to the police officers before following Lawyer Chu out.
Lawyer Chu looked at Ji Mingxiao, “You’re quite calm. Aren’t you afraid of running into danger? I remember you weren’t this reckless before.”
“You have to try sometimes. Fortune favors the bold,” Ji Mingxiao walked beside Lawyer Chu.
Lawyer Chu seemed a bit helpless, “Anyway, don’t do something like this again. What if something happens? Next time, I’ll have your mom take you out. Let’s see how she scolds you.”
“Dad,” Ji Mingxiao tugged on Lawyer Chu’s sleeve and shook it, acting coquettishly without any psychological burden.
Lawyer Chu felt a little helpless.
“Chu Qing.”
Ji Mingxiao looked at Xi Ruan, who was running over, and was taken aback, “Why are you here?”
“Are you okay?” Xi Ruan looked Ji Mingxiao up and down, then bowed to Lawyer Chu and called out, “Uncle.”
Lawyer Chu nodded, “I’ll give you both a ride back. No need to take the subway.”
“Okay, thank you, Uncle,” Xi Ruan showed what she considered her most pleasing smile.
Ji Mingxiao glanced at Xi Ruan, who didn’t look back at her. She felt a bit nervous, especially when Lawyer Chu was looking at her.
She didn’t know why she was so nervous. She had been to her roommate’s house and met her parents here before, but she never had this strange feeling.
Xi Ruan looked out the window. Besides, Lawyer Chu wasn’t Ji Mingxiao’s parent, so why was she so nervous?
Ji Mingxiao saw Xi Ruan and patted the back of her hand, startling the distracted girl.
“What are you thinking about?” Ji Mingxiao lowered her voice.
Xi Ruan pursed her lips, “I wasn’t thinking about anything. I was just spacing out.”
“Why did you rush out to find me? Weren’t you unconcerned about me?” Ji Mingxiao held Xi Ruan’s hand.
Xi Ruan frowned and glanced in Lawyer Chu’s direction.
“It’s fine, you can pretend I’m not here,” Lawyer Chu smiled.
Xi Ruan was stunned and her face immediately turned red. She glared at Ji Mingxiao, pulled her hand away, and hit her.
It was too embarrassing.
Ji Mingxiao couldn’t help but laugh. Xi Ruan took a deep breath and glared at Ji Mingxiao again.
“I can see your expression in the rearview mirror,” Ji Mingxiao said.
Xi Ruan: ???
Xi Ruan looked at the rearview mirror, then quietly moved to the seat behind the front passenger and glared at Ji Mingxiao again.
Ji Mingxiao laughed in a very uncharitable way.
“Qingqing, don’t always bully her.”
“Bully what? How could I possibly bully her? She’s always the one who bullies me. Dad, how can you judge a person based on just one meeting?” Ji Mingxiao said.
Xi Ruan took a deep breath and mumbled softly, “I knew I shouldn’t have come to find you.”
Ji Mingxiao tugged on Xi Ruan’s hand, but Xi Ruan ignored her. Ji Mingxiao didn’t dare to tease her anymore; if she did, she was sure to get hammered as soon as they got out of the car.
Lawyer Chu dropped the two of them off at the school gate and left. It was already past 8 PM.
Xi Ruan looked at Ji Mingxiao, and once Lawyer Chu’s car was out of sight, she raised her hand and hit Ji Mingxiao’s arm a couple of times.
“You just like watching me make a fool of myself.”
“I was just teasing you,” Ji Mingxiao grabbed Xi Ruan’s hands. “It hurts. Don’t hit me anymore. I’m sorry.”
“I won’t do it again,” Ji Mingxiao said, while lowering her head to kiss the back of Xi Ruan’s hand.
Xi Ruan pursed her lips, “Who told you to kiss me?”
“I did. I haven’t had dinner yet. Come have dinner with me,” Ji Mingxiao pulled Xi Ruan’s hand.
“Okay,” Xi Ruan nodded. “I haven’t eaten either.”
“You were that worried about me?”
Xi Ruan: …
The two of them walked along a small path on campus. Although there were streetlights, they were not very bright. Bathed in the hazy light, neither of them spoke for a moment, and the atmosphere became a little ambiguous.
“Ji Mingxiao.”
“Hmm?” Ji Mingxiao was taken aback, noticing she had used her ability. “What’s wrong? Why so serious all of a sudden? And you used points. When did you become so generous?”
“You know I have my memory wiped, right? Whatever happened in this mission location will disappear once I leave. Although it’s said that I can choose to keep the memories, I actually can’t because it also requires points to operate, and so does interrupting the memory recording,” Xi Ruan stopped and looked at her. “And I don’t have that many points.”
“The moment I leave, I will forget everything in this world. Ji Mingxiao, have you thought this through?” Xi Ruan looked at her with a very serious expression. “You’re so good to me in this world, but it’s all in vain. I can’t remember anything.”
Ji Mingxiao smiled, “Since you can’t remember, how do you know I’ve been good to you in every world before?”
Xi Ruan was stunned.
“Even though you don’t remember, you’re still slowly getting to know me. That’s what’s so strange about it,” Ji Mingxiao smiled. She raised her hand and ruffled Xi Ruan’s hair. “It’s okay if you don’t remember. I’m confident that you’ll fall in love with me in every single world.”
Xi Ruan felt a little speechless. What was a very serious matter suddenly made her want to hit Ji Mingxiao again after hearing that sentence.
“Do you want to get your memories back?” Ji Mingxiao looked at Xi Ruan.
Xi Ruan squeezed Ji Mingxiao’s hand, “I want to get all my memories of you back.”
“Then wait until I have enough money to help you get your memories back,” Ji Mingxiao looked into Xi Ruan’s eyes. “So, does this mean you’ve agreed to be with me?”
“No,” Xi Ruan glared at Ji Mingxiao in annoyance. “You haven’t even confessed to me. How could I just casually agree to be with you?”
Ji Mingxiao smiled, “Then, my very favorite junior, Ruan Shaojia, would you be willing to be my girlfriend?”
“That was so casual,” Although she said that, Xi Ruan still smiled. “I’ll reluctantly agree. But I’m warning you, if you’re not good to me, I’ll chop you up.”
“Okay,” Ji Mingxiao nodded. “Tsk, come to think of it, I’ll have to confess to you in every world from now on. When we go back, I’ll confess to you again. Can I kiss you then?”
Xi Ruan was stunned.
“System, remember that Ruan Shaojia said yes,” Ji Mingxiao smiled.
Xi Ruan reacted, “How can you be so shameless?”
“You said yes anyway,” Ji Mingxiao took Xi Ruan’s hand, and intertwined her fingers with Xi Ruan’s, locking their hands together.
Xi Ruan took a deep breath, feeling a mix of nervousness and excitement.
This was the first time she had been in a relationship in so many years.
Xi Ruan glanced at Ji Mingxiao and squinted her eyes, “So, you should probably explain to me why you’re in a ‘Scum Gong System’?”
Ji Mingxiao: …
As expected, what had to come would always come.
“After you left, I looked for you everywhere but couldn’t find you. I missed you so much, so I looked for many people who looked like you, paid them to sit in front of me so I could look at them, or people who sounded like you. Unfortunately, none of it really worked. It’s best to see the real person,” Ji Mingxiao said with a sigh.
“Don’t worry, nothing happened between me and them. It was just a business transaction,” Ji Mingxiao quickly added.
“How long have you liked me?”
“A long time,” Ji Mingxiao squinted. “I used to know how to count, but once I came here, I forgot all the years.”
“Anyway, the only time in my life I didn’t like you was the first fourteen years,” Ji Mingxiao looked at Xi Ruan. “For the rest of my life, I’ve liked you.”
Xi Ruan’s eyes shifted, and her face turned red again.
“Can’t you be a little more subtle?”
“Subtle what? What if you don’t understand me if I’m subtle?”
Xi Ruan: …
Xi Ruan gave Ji Mingxiao an annoyed look, “Why are you looking down on my intelligence even while confessing?”
“No, I’m not. I’m just afraid you might play dumb, so I have to make it clear,” Ji Mingxiao rubbed Xi Ruan’s face.
The two of them ate a bowl of noodles, but to celebrate their first day of being in a relationship, they each bought a small cake.
Ji Mingxiao walked Xi Ruan back to her dorm before she left. Seeing her enter the building, she smiled, suddenly feeling refreshed.
After Xi Ruan went back, she looked at her system. As expected, she had become the protagonist.
She had a feeling that Ji Mingxiao was different from all the other mission takers she had met before.
Ji Mingxiao returned to her dorm with a radiant smile. Her three roommates had heard about what happened and were a bit surprised to see the smile on her face.
“Is Jian Huanhuan going to jail?” Zhou Wang asked.
“Huh?” Ji Mingxiao was stunned, “I don’t think so. Why?”
“Then why are you so happy?”
“Oh, Xi Ruan agreed to be my girlfriend,” Ji Mingxiao put down the cake she was holding.
“My first love hasn’t even happened, and you’re already on your second,” Jiang Yu sighed.
“Give it a rest. That kind of ‘first love’ is better off not happening,” Fang Ai said.
“You’re right,” Jiang Yu clasped her hands together, “I pray to the heavens to grant me a handsome, good-tempered, rich, and doting boyfriend.”
“Wash up and go to sleep early,” Zhou Wang shook his head. “You’ll have everything in your dreams.”
Jiang Yu glared at Zhou Wang.
