The Host Has Fallen for the Second Female Lead Again - Chapter 84
Ji Mingxiao’s actions left Xi Ruan feeling a bit speechless.
【Xi Ruan: Look at how you scared that girl.】
【Chu Qing: A clear conscience fears no ghosts. She deserves to be scared.】
【Xi Ruan: What do you think she’ll do next? Hire a Taoist priest?】
【Chu Qing: She has money for a priest but not to pay me back?】
Xi Ruan was a little exasperated.
【Xi Ruan: There are cheaper ways to catch ghosts, like throwing some glutinous rice or using some garlic.】
【Chu Qing: She might be an idiot, but she couldn’t be that brainless, right?】
However, the facts proved that there really were people that brainless.
When Ji Mingxiao returned to her dorm, she saw a layer of glutinous rice scattered at the entrance. Her roommate, Jiang Yu, was already out with a broom. “I don’t know who the shameless person is who left this here,” she said.
“What kind of rice is this?” Zhou Wang asked.
“Glutinous rice,” Ji Mingxiao said with a quick glance.
“How can you even tell?”
Ji Mingxiao gave him a look. “Tsk, isn’t glutinous rice for warding off ghosts? Maybe she did something wrong and wants to get rid of me.”
The other three roommates exchanged glances.
“Did Jian Huanhuan do this?”
“She’s sick.”
“Is she going to lose her mind at this rate?”
“Who knows.” Ji Mingxiao rubbed her neck. “I have no idea what other ridiculous things she’ll do.”
That evening, the chat group that had been a hot topic was back in the news. A few people were arrested for inciting suicide, but Jian Huanhuan was not among them. The next day, however, her disciplinary action was officially announced: a major demerit, a public reprimand, and academic probation.
“I thought she’d be expelled,” Xi Ruan sighed when he found out. “Now we’ll still have to see her.”
“That was big news, and she still didn’t get expelled?”
The others expressed the same doubts.
Jian Huanhuan, on the other hand, wished she had just been expelled. At least then she could leave the school and not be stared at by so many people.
She knew that in everyone’s eyes, she was now a fool who had tried to scam Ji Mingxiao and her friends, only to be played instead.
She’d scattered glutinous rice for days, but nothing happened to Ji Mingxiao, which only further proved she was an idiot. If Ji Mingxiao were truly possessed, that would be great, but she wasn’t. Jian Huanhuan suspected that in Ji Mingxiao’s eyes, she was nothing more than a clown.
Maybe Ji Mingxiao had done all this on purpose, just to get that mental distress compensation fee.
Her family was still unwilling to pay the money, and Jian Huanhuan was becoming increasingly frustrated. How could she quickly earn over 100,000 yuan?
Her phone vibrated. A new message had arrived, and someone had added her as a friend.
She was about to reject it but tapped “Accept” instead.
【…: I can help you pay that money.】
Jian Huanhuan was startled. She frowned.
【Jian Huanhuan: What do you want me to do?】
【…: Just like you, I also really hate Chu Qing.】
【Jian Huanhuan: So?】
【…: If you can find a way to get Chu Qing to this place next Saturday, I will transfer the money to you. 140,000, right?】
Jian Huanhuan looked at the location the person had sent: a KTV in another district, very far from the school.
【Jian Huanhuan: I’ll try.】
Jian Huanhuan pursed her lips. She knew this was a huge risk, but what choice did she have? If she couldn’t pay within a month, Ji Mingxiao would absolutely not let her go.
She clenched her fists. What happened to Ji Mingxiao after she got there had nothing to do with her.
Jian Huanhuan smiled faintly. She hoped something bad would happen to that person. She desperately wanted to see Ji Mingxiao suffer.
【Jian Huanhuan: Who are you?】
【…: Why should I tell you?】
【Jian Huanhuan: What if I get her there and you don’t give me the money?】
The person didn’t reply. Five minutes later, they transferred 10,000 yuan to her.
Jian Huanhuan was stunned and closed her phone. She felt reassured now and took a deep breath.
She had five days until Saturday to come up with a reason to lure Ji Mingxiao there.
“Qingqing, what lipstick shade are you wearing today? It looks so beautiful.”
Jian Huanhuan looked up and saw Ji Mingxiao not far away, surrounded by people.
Ever since she broke up with Jian Huanhuan, Ji Mingxiao’s popularity had skyrocketed, and she was always surrounded by a crowd.
When Ji Mingxiao’s friends saw Jian Huanhuan, they instinctively formed a shield around her.
Jian Huanhuan could still hear their whispers.
“Watch out for that lunatic.”
“Why is she staring at us? Is she going to rush over again?”
…
Jian Huanhuan frowned and forced a smile. Their eyes met, and for some reason, Jian Huanhuan felt a pang of fear.
Ji Mingxiao’s lips curled into a slight smile, her eyes narrowing. The warning was clear.
Jian Huanhuan suddenly felt like she had been completely seen through. She feigned calmness, took a deep breath, and turned to leave.
“Host, Jian Huanhuan looks like she’s up to something bad,” System A said.
“Even you can tell. Jian Huanhuan is just that stupid,” Ji Mingxiao said, still laughing and chatting with her friends as if nothing was wrong.
System A: ???
“Host, can’t you say something nice for once?” System A quietly closed its mouth, feeling a little tired. It felt that compared to other systems, it was a very kind and approachable one, yet it was still so disliked. It was heartbreaking.
Ji Mingxiao told Xi Ruan about Jian Huanhuan’s odd behavior. Although Xi Ruan didn’t remember the past, he felt like this kind of thing happened a lot.
【Xi Ruan: You won’t let me out again?】
【Chu Qing: Why ‘again’?】
【Xi Ruan: I don’t know.】
【Chu Qing: So you still have some impression of what happened before.】
【Xi Ruan: Does this happen often?】
【Chu Qing: Pretty much. This time it’s not bad enough that I need to stop. She’s just a college student. But to prevent a cornered dog from jumping a wall, you should stick with other people for now, although I think the target will be me.】
【Xi Ruan: Okay, that’s good.】
【Chu Qing: ???】
【Xi Ruan: You be careful. I’m fine.】
Ji Mingxiao’s lips twitched slightly in exasperation, and she rubbed her neck.
System A unceremoniously laughed.
The next afternoon, Jian Huanhuan contacted her.
Ji Mingxiao had originally wanted to block her, but the girl still hadn’t paid her back.
【Chu Qing: Something wrong?】
【Jian Huanhuan: I want to meet with you.】
【Chu Qing: Okay. When?】
Jian Huanhuan stared at her phone screen in silence.
She hadn’t even given a reason, so why had this person agreed so quickly?
Ji Mingxiao’s fast response made Jian Huanhuan feel a little scared.
【Jian Huanhuan: You just agreed?】
【Chu Qing: Why wouldn’t I? Even if I didn’t agree, you’d still find a way to make me agree, wouldn’t you?】
【Jian Huanhuan: Fine. Saturday at 6 PM. Meet at this place.】
【Chu Qing: A KTV?】
【Jian Huanhuan: Yeah, it’s a good place to talk privately.】
【Chu Qing: Okay.】
Jian Huanhuan looked at her pathetic excuse and couldn’t understand why Ji Mingxiao would believe it.
She sat in her chair, doubting herself and worrying that Ji Mingxiao had some sort of conspiracy planned.
Jian Huanhuan’s earlier suspicion that Ji Mingxiao was possessed suddenly seemed very plausible again. Maybe she really was, and she was just so powerful that she was immune to the glutinous rice.
Otherwise, why would she dare to go?
【Jian Huanhuan: Come alone. I want to talk to you by yourself.】
【Chu Qing: Okay.】
Jian Huanhuan stared at the screen, took a deep breath, and began to seriously consider hiring a Taoist priest.
Some things that seem absurd can start to make perfect sense once you overthink them, and everything around you starts to feel like proof.
Like the sudden closing of her dorm’s doors and windows, or a gnawed-on chicken leg appearing outside her dorm.
System A quietly watched Jian Huanhuan, convinced that the girl was probably not far from a complete breakdown.
On Saturday, at exactly 6 PM, Ji Mingxiao arrived at the KTV.
Jian Huanhuan was standing not far away, and she took a picture of Ji Mingxiao and sent it to the other person.
【Jian Huanhuan: She’s at the entrance.】
【…: Tell her to go to KTV Room 351.】
【Jian Huanhuan: Okay.】
Ji Mingxiao received Jian Huanhuan’s message and went inside.
She was wearing comfortable clothes she could move around in and had pepper spray and a taser on her.
Ji Mingxiao had a waiter lead her to the private room. When they reached the door, she smiled at the waiter. “Can you open the door for me?”
The waiter was stunned for a moment but opened it anyway.
As soon as the door opened, a person reached out, hooked the waiter’s neck, and tried to pull him inside.
Ji Mingxiao immediately kicked the person in the stomach and pulled the waiter out. “Call the police!”
The waiter glanced at Ji Mingxiao. He had been worried, but seeing her kick another person to the ground, he immediately turned and ran.
There were four or five people in the room, all men.
Ji Mingxiao sneered.
“I knew this was a bad idea.” She pulled out her pepper spray and started spraying.
The police arrived quickly. Ji Mingxiao went to the police station to assist with the investigation. When Jian Huanhuan was brought in, she saw four or five men crouching on the floor and then looked at Ji Mingxiao sitting calmly at a table.
She took a deep breath. She knew it wasn’t going to be easy to take down Ji Mingxiao.
“Someone told me to lure her here. I don’t know what they were going to do. What does this have to do with me?” Jian Huanhuan said, her voice sounding frantic.
“Who was the person who contacted you?”
“I don’t know,” Jian Huanhuan said, handing over her phone. “She said she’d give me 140,000 yuan if I could get Chu Qing there, but she’s already deleted me and only gave me 10,000.”
The police began their investigation. According to the five men who were arrested, someone had paid them to take indecent photos of Ji Mingxiao.
