The Host Has Fallen for the Second Female Lead Again - Chapter 67
“Good then,” Ji Mingxiao nodded, glancing at the Demon Lord. “We’ll let you go once we reach the Immortal Realm.”
The Demon Lord was speechless.
He felt more humiliated than he had in all his years of life.
“Immortal Wuyin, isn’t this a bit improper?”
“Isn’t the Demon Realm all about strength? If you can’t beat me, don’t make ridiculous demands.” Ji Mingxiao’s face was devoid of expression. With one hand, she held Xi Ruan, and with the other, she gripped the Demon Lord’s collar, dragging him across the Demon Realm.
When they arrived at the barrier between the Immortal and Demon Realms, they saw a crowd of people waiting. Their gazes toward Ji Mingxiao were filled with a strange mix of emotions.
Xu Cu stood in the crowd, her mind in turmoil.
She was very curious if Ji Mingxiao would have come to save her in the same way if she had been the one captured by the demons today.
She didn’t understand why she was even having such a thought.
Xu Cu glanced at Xi Ruan. This person’s presence made her feel a strong sense of danger.
“This person really intends to go to war with the Immortal Realm. You all can deal with it yourselves.” Ji Mingxiao threw the Demon Lord toward a few high-ranking Immortals, then prepared to leave.
Immortal Feihe’s mouth twitched slightly. He never expected that Ji Mingxiao would actually storm into the Demon Realm and capture the Demon Lord to throw him out like this.
Looking at the Demon Lord on the ground, the scene became eerily silent.
“Immortal Wuyin, are you just leaving like that?” Immortal Canglan called out.
“Otherwise?” Ji Mingxiao looked at him expressionlessly. “I’ve found my apprentice, and I’ve found out what the Demon Realm is planning. As for anything else, whether he wants to continue the war is for you to discuss with him. I have no interest. Just call me when the war starts.”
Xi Ruan looked thoughtfully at Ji Mingxiao’s profile, then tilted her head and saw Xu Cu standing not far away.
The look in her eyes was a bit unsettling.
Xi Ruan moved to hide behind Ji Mingxiao. This person’s gaze was making her uncomfortable.
Noticing Xi Ruan’s action, Xu Cu’s eyes narrowed slightly, and she clenched her hands tightly.
“Immortal Wuyin, why don’t you just kill me?” The Demon Lord looked at Ji Mingxiao. “Have you heard the saying, ‘letting the tiger return to its mountain’?”
Ji Mingxiao stared at the Demon Lord for a moment, then raised an eyebrow. “You consider yourself a tiger?”
The surrounding area fell into complete silence.
The Demon Lord’s expression stiffened. He clearly hadn’t expected Ji Mingxiao to mock him.
Everyone else was also surprised, as the old Immortal Wuyin was a person of few words, let alone one who would so directly ridicule someone.
Ji Mingxiao curled the corner of her lips. “One humiliating moment is enough. If the Demon Lord ever provokes me again, I will hang you on my sword and parade you through the Six Realms.”
“Is there anything else? If not, I will be taking my leave.” Ji Mingxiao paused, glanced at Xu Cu, and said, “You come, too.”
Xu Cu pursed her lips and followed behind Ji Mingxiao.
The group of three soon disappeared.
Xu Cu stared at Ji Mingxiao’s back and at Xi Ruan, who was standing beside her.
“How did you get out?” Ji Mingxiao asked.
Xu Cu was stunned for a moment, then pursed her lips. “Master?”
“Looks like the protective barrier needs to be strengthened.”
Xu Cu froze, looking at Ji Mingxiao. “Master, I only came out because I was worried about my junior sister.”
Ji Mingxiao glanced at Xu Cu. “You know what’s in your own heart.”
After returning, Xi Ruan noticed that Ji Mingxiao was clearly stricter with her. She also gave lessons to Xu Cu, but only once a month. After the lesson, Xu Cu was to go back and cultivate on her own.
“Master, do you hate me?” At the end of a lesson, Xu Cu suddenly stepped forward and grabbed Ji Mingxiao’s hand, sitting down in front of her.
Ji Mingxiao pulled her hand away. “What are you talking about?”
“Master, did I do something wrong?” Xu Cu bit her lip, tears streaming down her cheeks. “You’ve become more and more distant with me. I… I don’t know what I did, Master.”
“Then how do you think I should be? I’m distant with everyone.” Ji Mingxiao looked at her. “I’ve taught you what needs to be taught. What else do you want?”
Xu Cu looked at Ji Mingxiao, opening her mouth to speak. “Before, we would go admire flowers and scenery together, and you would let me comb your hair, I…”
“Is now the same as before?” Ji Mingxiao looked at her expressionlessly. “The Demon Lord has returned. The war will likely break out. Tell me, in this state, how are you to go to the battlefield? Or rather, how are you to protect yourself?”
“You complete the tasks I give you, but you gain no insight from them. What am I supposed to do with you?”
“Do you think you have time for such things now?”
Ji Mingxiao’s words were rapid and harsh.
Immortal Wuyin rarely communicated with others. Xu Cu, who was with Immortal Wuyin, was only slightly better but no match for a seasoned debater like Ji Mingxiao. Within a few minutes, Xu Cu was completely flustered.
“I understand, Master,” Xu Cu smiled, wiping away her tears, and let out a sigh of relief. “As long as Master still cares about me, it’s okay.”
Xi Ruan had been standing outside the door the whole time. She didn’t go in. Hearing Xu Cu’s words, she shook her head and glanced at Ji Mingxiao. This person was truly terrible.
Although she knew Xu Cu wasn’t a good person, she couldn’t help but feel that Ji Mingxiao was a bit of a jerk.
That ambiguous attitude was always the most lethal.
When Xu Cu came out, she looked at Xi Ruan, and her eyes held a hint of pride and a desire to show off.
Xi Ruan: This person seems to be a little bit dumb.
“Hello, senior sister,” Xi Ruan pretended not to understand Xu Cu’s meaning and gave her a pure and innocent smile.
“Mhm.” Xu Cu looked at Xi Ruan and nodded, the hostility in her eyes lessening by a couple of points.
Xi Ruan knew from the change in Xu Cu’s expression that this person probably thought she was an idiot.
Thinking this, the smile on Xi Ruan’s face became two points more genuine.
“You should go in now. Master is waiting for you inside.”
“Okay,” Xi Ruan nodded and ran inside.
Xu Cu glanced over her shoulder, noting that Ji Mingxiao’s expression remained unchanged, which relieved her and made her feel much more secure.
Once Xu Cu was out of the courtyard, Ji Mingxiao flopped down in her chair. “Did you learn the sword technique I taught you yesterday?”
Xi Ruan was exhausted.
“Don’t we talk first?” Xi Ruan felt a little weary.
When she first started learning the sword technique, she had fantasized that she would be able to split mountains with a single strike, just like in the fantasy novels. Now, she only hoped to complete Ji Mingxiao’s tasks without her arms aching. And what’s more, Ji Mingxiao wouldn’t even use a recovery spell on her, only telling her to learn one herself.
She had only learned about 30% of it, enough to make her arms feel a little better.
“Talk about what?”
Xi Ruan propped her chin up, a little disgruntled. “You inherited all of Immortal Wuyin’s skills when you came here, so you can be lazy. That’s so nice.”
“It’s true. But I’m even more skilled than Immortal Wuyin now. Normally, Immortal Wuyin and the Demon Lord would be evenly matched,” Ji Mingxiao rubbed Xi Ruan’s head. “I also learned a lot of new spells. Immortal Wuyin had no interest in small spells and was only focused on increasing her cultivation.”
Xi Ruan sighed. “How can you be so studious?”
“There’s nothing else to do. Besides, it never hurts to learn more. So, you, go practice your sword.” Ji Mingxiao pointed toward the door.
Xi Ruan sighed, grabbed her sword, and went to the courtyard.
Ji Mingxiao set up a table and a chair at the entrance, with tea and pastries, looking like she was ready to watch a show, with a book on hand.
She only regretted that there were no cameras in this world. Otherwise, she could have taken a picture of Xi Ruan practicing her sword.
Ji Mingxiao rested her chin in her hand, watching her. Although Xi Ruan was lazy, she would practice diligently when she needed to.
Whenever Xi Ruan caught a glimpse of Ji Mingxiao’s expression, she knew that this person was secretly mocking her. She frowned, already planning that when she became powerful, she would have a proper fight with Ji Mingxiao.
“What, are you thinking about how to defeat me?”
Xi Ruan: …
“I’m not.”
“Your expression is too obvious.” Ji Mingxiao drew her sword, her feet lightly touching the ground as she landed in front of Xi Ruan. “Come on, want to try?”
Xi Ruan stared at Ji Mingxiao, sizing her up. “Come on!”
“Should I go easy on you?”
Xi Ruan squinted her eyes. “You decide that for yourself! Don’t ask me!” It would be too embarrassing to say it out loud.
“Then I won’t go easy on you.”
Xi Ruan: !!!
Ji Mingxiao had also been practicing her sword recently. Although she had inherited the memories, they weren’t her own. During her fight with the Demon Lord, she had mostly relied on the skills she learned in the interstellar world.
She felt that after journeying through so many worlds, she could become a woman who was both intellectual and skilled in combat.
Xi Ruan was still too weak. After two moves, her sword flew out of her hand, and as she fell, Ji Mingxiao caught her around the waist.
System A: This person is definitely doing it on purpose.
Xi Ruan was startled, looking at Ji Mingxiao, her ears and face turning red.
Ji Mingxiao laughed softly, pinching Xi Ruan’s ear, and sighed in relief. “Tsk, you probably fell toward me on purpose.”
“I didn’t!”
“Whatever you say.” Ji Mingxiao put away her sword. “Next time, stand steady. Don’t fall again.”
Xi Ruan gritted her teeth, looked at Ji Mingxiao, and felt that this person’s shamelessness was far greater than she had estimated. She rubbed her waist. The place where Ji Mingxiao had held her still felt as if her warmth lingered.
She looked at Ji Mingxiao again and continued to practice her sword.
Ji Mingxiao smiled. That afternoon, Xi Ruan practiced her sword for twice as long as usual.
“Not bad,” Ji Mingxiao nodded.
Xi Ruan looked around. “It’s already dark.”
“If fighting me will make you diligent and motivated, we can fight every day,” Ji Mingxiao said, propping her chin up.
Xi Ruan snorted lightly. “I’m just motivating myself. I don’t want to fight with you.”
She rubbed her arm, cast a small spell, and looked at Ji Mingxiao again. “By the way, what are you going to do next? You’re not going to just stay here, are you? I feel like things haven’t progressed at all.”
“They will.” Ji Mingxiao took a sip of her tea. “And soon.”
“I’ve noticed you’ve become even more mystical since we came to this world,” Xi Ruan put her sword away and rubbed her neck. “I’m going back now.”
“Okay.”
