The Host Has Fallen for the Second Female Lead Again - Chapter 31
Su Mian left the Nan family’s company, her mind a chaotic mess.
Many things had spiraled out of her control.
It was clear she could only choose one of the two, and the choice was obvious.
She liked both, but Ji Mingxiao had the Nan family behind her, which would bring Su Mian many more benefits.
Compared to Ji Mingxiao, You Shi was like a stone, completely devoid of any appeal.
She decided to send You Shi abroad.
Ji Mingxiao returned to school after two days at the Nan family’s home.
Although nothing seemed different on the surface, people felt there was an unspoken bitterness beneath her smile. The rumors had already spread throughout the school.
Many things had been distorted by the gossip.
The only things that hadn’t changed were that Ji Mingxiao was a pitiful, innocent little flower, You Shi was a shameless and loathsome mistress, and Su Mian was a scumbag.
The videos and audio recordings were circulating in everyone’s hands, needing only a trigger to ignite.
You Shi had already been fired. Su Mian had no objections and had even spoken to the principal about it.
Su Mian called Ji Mingxiao every day, and she always answered. The calls were always about when they would divorce, though Ji Mingxiao’s voice held a hint of reluctance.
This made Su Mian believe that Ji Mingxiao was saying these things because her heart was broken, and it made her think she still had a chance.
Ji Mingxiao thought she was quite ruthless.
Because Su Mian’s attention was so focused on Ji Mingxiao, she became careless in her work decisions. With Ji Mingxiao and the Nan family fanning the flames from behind, several projects had already been secured in collaboration with the Su family.
When class ended on Friday, Su Mian came to find Ji Mingxiao. She stood in the hallway. People passing by didn’t dare to speak directly but whispered to each other once they were past her.
Su Mian’s expression was ugly. She, of course, knew about the things on the forums. At first, she thought it was related to Ji Mingxiao, but her investigation showed the videos and audio were just accidental captures. This whole situation was because of that idiot, You Shi.
When Ji Mingxiao came out, she saw Su Mian and paused for a moment but didn’t stop, walking straight towards the stairs. Su Mian immediately followed her.
Someone tried to stop Su Mian, but she pushed them aside.
“Nan Yu, can we talk?”
“Will we still get a divorce after we talk?” Ji Mingxiao stood on the stairs, looking back at Su Mian. Her body was backlit, so Su Mian couldn’t see her expression clearly.
Su Mian pursed her lips. “Do you have to divorce me?”
“Yes,” Ji Mingxiao said. “If you still like me after we divorce, I’ll let you pursue me again. But I refuse to be a stand-in and marry you.”
Su Mian was taken aback. Although she still didn’t want a divorce, this was the most positive signal Ji Mingxiao had given her so far.
“Just listen to me explain first.”
“I don’t want to hear it. My brother already found everything and showed me,” Ji Mingxiao said, looking at Su Mian. “I’m still willing to stand here and talk to you, and that’s already pretty good.”
Su Mian opened her mouth but said nothing.
“You should go. Let’s meet at the Civil Affairs Bureau next Monday. I want you to make a new choice,” Ji Mingxiao said, checking the time. “I have a club meeting. Goodbye.”
Ji Mingxiao finished speaking and ran off.
Su Mian rubbed her temples, and her phone rang.
It was You Shi.
She frowned in annoyance, answered the call, and wanted to curse, but she noticed the stares from people around her and held back.
“You Shi, what do you want?”
“I’m on the roof of the apartment building right now. It’s thirty-seven stories high. If I jump, I’ll definitely die, right?” You Shi said.
“Are you crazy?” Su Mian snapped. “I’m divorcing Nan Yu on Monday.”
You Shi was stunned. “You agreed?”
“Yes, I agreed. Just stop causing me trouble!” Su Mian gritted her teeth. “You’ve gotten what you wanted.”
You Shi laughed. “Can we live a good life together from now on, Mian Mian?”
“Yes, we’ll live a good life together. Just don’t make a fuss anymore,” Su Mian took a deep breath, trying to calm her tone. “Come down now. I’ll be there right away.”
“Okay.”
After hanging up on You Shi, Su Mian got back into her car and made another call.
“I’ll be sending You Shi abroad tomorrow, then I’ll find a way to take care of her.” Su Mian’s voice was cold.
“Yes.”
Su Mian hung up and stared ahead.
She had long since lost her patience with You Shi. Now she was trying to use death to threaten her.
This had crossed a line.
Dealing with You Shi didn’t require much thought.
She had never imagined that she and You Shi would end up in such a state.
Su Mian twisted the corner of her lips and looked at Ji Mingxiao’s photo on her phone screen.
She should have done this a long time ago.
She had never thought that being a stand-in was a problem, but now it was clear the gap between them was huge.
When Su Mian arrived, You Shi was sitting on the sofa, looking like she had made an effort to dress up, but the weariness and age on her face couldn’t be hidden.
Although they were the same age, standing together, You Shi looked noticeably older than Su Mian.
“You Shi.”
“Mian Mian, let’s go grocery shopping together tonight.”
“You should go abroad tomorrow.”
You Shi was stunned, staring at Su Mian with wide eyes.
“Go abroad and stay away for a bit,” Su Mian said, leaning back on the sofa. “I’m worried the Nan family will come after you. They’ve already gone to my parents’ place.”
You Shi frowned. “Why are they so shameless? They’ve already agreed to divorce, so why are they still causing trouble?”
“The marriage between the Su and Nan families was a big deal, and so is the divorce. The news has already spread at school, and it’s hard to guarantee that reporters won’t try to ambush you. Go abroad first, and I’ll come to find you in a month.”
Su Mian ruffled You Shi’s hair. “Trust me, okay?”
“Will you really come find me?”
“Yes,” Su Mian said, looking at You Shi. “We’ll live a good life together from now on. When you get abroad, you can start thinking about what kind of wedding dress you like, what kind of house you want to live in, and whether we should get a dog or a cat.”
You Shi’s face lit up with a smile, clearly imagining their wonderful life together.
That night, Su Mian stayed there and talked about the future with You Shi.
You Shi had completely fallen for the beautiful fantasy Su Mian had created for her.
The next morning at 9 AM, Su Mian took You Shi to the airport.
Ji Mingxiao naturally received the news but had no intention of doing anything. Her target was only Su Mian.
She had no opinion on You Shi’s fate, even if she fled abroad.
Ji Mingxiao was quite curious about how Su Mian had convinced You Shi to leave the country.
However, she didn’t care enough to investigate.
She simply sent a message to Xi Ruan.
[Xiao Xiao: Are you still mad?]
[Ruan Ruan: Hmph.]
[Xiao Xiao: This should be an effective scene.]
[Ruan Ruan: You’re sure it’s that simple?]
[Xiao Xiao: Yes, but even something simple can be the final straw that crushes Su Mian. Let’s go out and have some fun tomorrow.]
[Ruan Ruan: No, thanks. It’s better if we see each other less, as I’m supposedly your witness.]
Ji Mingxiao sighed. Why was this person so difficult to talk to inside the system?
[Ruan Ruan: Besides, if Su Mian sees us hanging out, she’ll probably turn it around and blame us.]
[Xiao Xiao: So I can’t even go out with a friend?]
[Ruan Ruan: It’s two people, so it’s not a good idea.]
Ji Mingxiao let out a deep sigh. Life was so hard.
She really wanted to ask Su Mian how she made You Shi so devoted to her.
Even her own people weren’t willing to go out with her.
The struggle was real.
Some were showered with affection, while others were left in the dust.
Ji Mingxiao’s plan was almost complete.
The results of her paper were in, and they had all passed.
She was a bit shocked and felt that it was a waste for Nan Yu. To be able to publish three SCI papers in the first year of graduate school meant a bright future.
Nan Yu loved chemistry. If she had continued her studies and gone into research, she would have been an excellent scientist.
Even though it was a virtual world, Ji Mingxiao still felt it was a shame.
On Monday, Su Mian and Ji Mingxiao went to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get a divorce.
Not many people knew them personally, but their good looks drew a lot of attention.
Su Mian looked at Ji Mingxiao, her eyes full of affection.
Nan Cheng stood expressionlessly between them. “Stay away from my sister.”
“Brother, don’t be like that,” Ji Mingxiao said, tugging on Nan Cheng’s sleeve.
Nan Cheng stepped back but still looked at Su Mian with a wary expression.
After getting their divorce certificates, they left the bureau.
The division of assets was simple since they had a prenuptial agreement.
Su Mian gave Ji Mingxiao an additional 50 million in compensation, two villas in a wealthy neighborhood, and many luxury goods, totaling about 200 million yuan.
Ji Mingxiao wasn’t shy and accepted everything.
“Want to get lunch together?”
“What do you think, Miss Su? Have some shame. If it weren’t for my sister, I’d really…”
“Brother!” Ji Mingxiao said, frowning, and then shook her head at Su Mian. “Let’s save it for another time. We won’t eat together today. My parents are waiting for me at home.”
Su Mian nodded.
Nan Cheng pulled Ji Mingxiao away.
“Brother, seriously, just don’t say anything. She keeps ignoring you, which makes you look awkward.”
Ji Mingxiao leaned back in her seat, a bright smile on her face.
“Done with the act? She hasn’t left yet, you know.”
“She and I have nothing to do with each other anymore. The trap has been set,” Ji Mingxiao said, watching Su Mian still standing there, and a smirk formed on her lips. “I’m going to sell my shares in the Su family to Su Mian’s brother in the next few days.”
“I thought you were going to take over the Su family.”
“I don’t want to,” Ji Mingxiao said calmly. “I prefer to watch them tear each other apart.”
“Host, you’re something else,” System A said. It didn’t know what to make of Ji Mingxiao’s behavior. The mission could have ended, but she insisted on creating more drama.
“We’re not exactly a system for getting revenge on scumbags.”
“It’s close enough,” Ji Mingxiao said, getting out of the car and walking into the school with a confident stride.
Many people knew she had divorced today, and some even congratulated her.
Ji Mingxiao returned a smile to each of them, winning even more hearts.
The next part was her favorite.
However, it would take some time for the projects to show problems.
The immediate result was Xi Ruan complaining to Ji Mingxiao every day after her morning and night shifts.
She was very irritable.
“You’re so young; you should be more zen.”
“I’m not young anymore!” Xi Ruan gritted her teeth. “We’re already divorced. How much longer will this take?”
“Let’s go see a movie tomorrow. My treat.”
Xi Ruan: “…”
“What movie?” Xi Ruan asked, annoyed but helpless.
“There’s a sci-fi film that looks interesting.”
