The Host Has Fallen for the Second Female Lead Again - Chapter 30
A wave of silence descended upon the room, broken only by the hum of the air conditioner.
Sun Mian’s eyes widened as she stared at her phone, suddenly grateful that she had recorded the conversation.
Su Mian’s fist slammed against the steering wheel. She had been on the phone with Ji Mingxiao, who had remained silent for a long time before finally speaking.
“So, you’re proud of being a mistress, are you?” Ji Mingxiao’s voice was sharp. “Letting go is better for everyone.”
“I really want to hit you, but I can’t,” Ji Mingxiao said, taking a sip of tea. “This is the restraint of the wealthy.”
“What do you mean?” Sun Mian asked.
“I’m mocking you,” Ji Mingxiao sneered. “No matter what happens between her and me, it should be her who comes to me, not you. The fact that you’ve come to me now… does that mean you’re scared because she’s treating me so well?”
“Well? Nanyu, you’re just deceiving yourself,” You Shi’s voice grew louder. “So what if you’re married? She still likes me. We were together for three years! Three years!”
Su Mian felt a headache coming on from You Shi’s rant. People nearby were starting to notice them.
“Are you trying to put Su Mian on the spot and force her to choose?” Ji Mingxiao asked, getting up. “She promised me she wouldn’t see you again. She doesn’t need to choose. I’ll make the choice, but no matter what, I want her to tell me to my face.”
Ji Mingxiao picked up her phone and showed it to You Shi, who saw the name on the screen and her eyes widened. “You bitch!”
Just as You Shi raised her hand to grab Ji Mingxiao’s hair, Su Mian rushed over and pulled her hand away. Ji Mingxiao looked at Su Mian, her eyes red, biting her lip. She looked furious but was holding back.
“Mian Mian,” Ji Mingxiao said.
Someone had recognized them. Ji Mingxiao was too famous not to be recognized.
“You Shi! What are you doing?” Su Mian asked.
“Let’s go somewhere else, not here,” Ji Mingxiao said, pulling her wrist out of Su Mian’s grasp.
“Why not here!” You Shi had already decided to ruin Ji Mingxiao’s reputation. “You’re a mistress, why are you afraid to say it?”
Ji Mingxiao looked at Su Mian, wanting to see what she would do. Would she agree with You Shi, or would she defend her?
“You need to shut up,” Su Mian said to You Shi. “Let’s go somewhere else and talk. Stop making a scene!”
Ji Mingxiao smirked, staring at Su Mian, and tears started to fall. She was crying beautifully.
“You can do this, Su Mian,” Ji Mingxiao said before walking away.
Su Mian tried to follow her, but You Shi grabbed her hand.
Sun Mian’s eyes were wide. Without the recording, everyone would definitely think Ji Mingxiao was the mistress.
The incident had already been posted on a campus forum. Sun Mian quickly posted the full story and the recording. It was her first time doing something like this, but seeing people badmouth Ji Mingxiao infuriated her. She was such a good person, and she was being wronged and slandered.
Some people on the forum who didn’t know the truth were already attacking Ji Mingxiao, as only a short video clip had been leaked. The posts had very catchy titles.
“Nanyu is actually a mistress?”
“Pure school beauty Nanyu, ha ha, how disgusting.”
After seeing Sun Mian’s post, Ji Mingxiao immediately had the people she had arranged start upvoting it. Within half an hour, Sun Mian’s post was the only one left on the front page, and all other posts about Ji Mingxiao had been deleted.
“What the hell? This is a huge scandal!”
“Su Mian is so horrible.”
“Seriously, Su Mian and You Shi should just be together and leave Nanyu alone!”
“Nanyu’s crying breaks my heart.”
“A little birdie told me that You Shi was able to become a counselor at our school because Su Mian donated a building. I wonder if Nanyu knows.”
“You Shi: I’m proud to be a mistress.”
“If Su Mian liked You Shi, she shouldn’t have gotten married. Why did she get a substitute? How disgusting to use Nanyu as a stand-in for You Shi. Does You Shi even deserve it?”
The posts were quickly deleted, but screenshots and the audio had already spread.
Ji Mingxiao was ready with marketing accounts. Instead of returning to her dorm, she went straight to her brother Nan Cheng’s company.
Nan Cheng was shocked to see his sister’s red eyes. Before he could comfort her, she spoke in a calm voice.
“This is the recording of my conversation with You Shi. With the previous things, it should serve as proof of Su Mian’s infidelity,” Ji Mingxiao said, leaning back on the sofa. “The momentum has already started at school. You Shi probably won’t be able to stay there. You can put pressure on the school to get rid of her, and Su Mian will probably take her in.”
“Take her in?” Nan Cheng asked.
“Listen to the recording. There’s also a video. When You Shi called me a mistress, Su Mian didn’t deny it,” Ji Mingxiao said.
Nan Cheng clicked on the recording. As he listened, his face darkened. He took a deep breath and called the president of Ji Mingxiao’s university.
Su Mian took You Shi to her car.
“What exactly are you doing?” Su Mian asked You Shi. “Are you crazy?”
“You still care about me, don’t you?” You Shi said, smiling at Su Mian.
“Do you think the rich care what people outside the circle say? Others may not know, but people in the circle will know! Do you think the Nan family is a pushover?” Su Mian’s voice was firm.
You Shi looked at Su Mian’s slightly raised hand. “You want to hit me? If you had just given me a clear answer, would I have done this? Su Mian, you just don’t want to leave her, do you? She’s pretty, young, rich, and smart and gentle. You think she’s better than me in every way!”
Su Mian looked at You Shi, suddenly unable to recognize her. The You Shi she remembered was sweet, gentle, and never spoke loudly. When did she become like this? Her eyes were filled with undisguised jealousy.
Su Mian didn’t know what to say. She had been trying to call Ji Mingxiao, but her phone was off. She felt annoyed. If only Ji Mingxiao would make a scene like You Shi, she would feel a little better. Instead, Ji Mingxiao was enduring so much and still telling You Shi to quiet down.
“Have you never considered me?” Su Mian asked You Shi.
You Shi was stunned. She was a little scared of Su Mian’s current tone.
“You went and made a scene like this outside. I told you to take it slow, but you didn’t want to. You’re not stupid. You should know this isn’t easy, but you still did it,” Su Mian said, her words deliberate.
“You believed her? She called you, she did it on purpose!” You Shi exclaimed.
“Was it wrong for her to call me?” Su Mian asked. “Why shouldn’t she call me?”
System A came over to watch the drama unfold. Feeling a little emotional, it immediately relayed the details to Ji Mingxiao.
Ji Mingxiao couldn’t help but laugh.
“Su Mian still thinks you’re a good person,” System A said. “My dear, you could write a book.”
Ji Mingxiao leaned on the sofa, watching a show on Nan Cheng’s tablet. Her phone was full of messages and missed calls, mostly from people comforting her.
Nan Cheng kept glancing at Ji Mingxiao. “Aren’t you sad at all?”
“No, I’m not sad. Why would I be sad over a horrible person? I’m not crazy,” Ji Mingxiao said, looking at Nan Cheng.
“Good. The parents found out about it. Su Mian called Dad, and when he asked me about it, I sent him the recording,” Nan Cheng said.
“Oh,” Ji Mingxiao frowned. “Then he’ll probably come looking for you soon.”
Twenty minutes later, Su Mian arrived. Ji Mingxiao was ready. Nan Cheng watched as his sister, who had been laughing a moment ago, started to cry. It wasn’t really crying, just her eyes getting red.
Nan Cheng’s thoughts raced. Are all women this amazing? I’m truly impressed.
“Let me explain,” Su Mian said.
“Explain what? Let’s just get a divorce early. I’ll make space for her,” Ji Mingxiao said, wiping her tears.
“Nanyu!” Su Mian exclaimed.
“When she just called me a mistress, why didn’t you say anything?” Ji Mingxiao asked, wiping her tears. “Tell me!”
Nan Cheng was at a loss for words.
“Who let you in, Su Mian? Do you think the Nan family is easy to bully?” Nan Cheng said, standing in front of Su Mian. “Get out of here.”
“I’ll send You Shi away,” Su Mian said.
“So you can have a secret lover?” Ji Mingxiao’s tears flowed freely this time, but without snot, and at a carefully chosen angle to maintain her beauty. “How can I believe you? Let’s just get a divorce. I won’t pursue this matter anymore.”
“Nanyu?” Nan Cheng frowned.
Su Mian looked at Ji Mingxiao. “Don’t be like this. She was the one who came to me first. I… I couldn’t reject her.”
Ji Mingxiao, System A, and Nan Cheng were all speechless. This was the classic move of a manipulative scumbag.
What the hell did “I couldn’t reject her” even mean?
“Ha, that’s enough, Su Mian. Stop pretending. Get out. My sister is not in a good mood. Can you please stop bothering her?” Nan Cheng said.
Su Mian continued to stare at Ji Mingxiao, completely ignoring Nan Cheng.
“Su Mian!” Nan Cheng stood in front of Su Mian. “I don’t like to hit women, but that doesn’t mean I won’t for my sister.”
“I’ll come back in a few days. I’m sorry, this is my fault,” Su Mian said before leaving.
Ji Mingxiao watched Su Mian leave, a smirk playing on her lips. If Su Mian truly knew she was wrong, her task would be over. What a disgusting piece of garbage.
“You’re not going to fall for her again, are you?” Nan Cheng asked.
“No,” Ji Mingxiao said, leaning back on the sofa, her right leg crossed over her left. “How are the projects going?”
“Huh?” Nan Cheng was a little confused.
“What do you mean, ‘huh’?” Ji Mingxiao asked, looking at him.
Nan Cheng chuckled. “Everything’s going smoothly.” He ruffled Ji Mingxiao’s hair. “My little sister is truly amazing.”
