The Host Has Fallen for the Second Female Lead Again - Chapter 22
“It’s good that it’s an effective scene. An ineffective one would only give you an extra hundred at most,” Xi Ruan said, finding a place to queue. She counted on her fingers. “I don’t know when I’ll be able to stop taking missions. There’s still such a long way to go.”
“We can only rest for a maximum of ten days after each mission.”
Ji Mingxiao frowned. “That’s a lot of rest time for us.”
“That’s because your missions are heavy and you stay in the mission world for a long time,” Xi Ruan shrugged. “We generally only need to stay for about ten days or so.”
“True. The last world I was in was about two years,” Ji Mingxiao said, looking at Xi Ruan. She’d never seen her counting before, because there was no need; she wasn’t short on money and never would be. “Did you cry when you first got here?”
Xi Ruan pursed her lips. “Of course I did. I thought I had died, but then suddenly came back to life somewhere else. How terrifying is that? Weren’t you scared?”
“No. Maybe I’m just naturally more brave.”
It was almost Xi Ruan’s turn.
The screen was only visible to the person using it, so Ji Mingxiao couldn’t see what she was choosing. Watching her practiced movements, she felt a pang of sympathy. A little princess should be held and cherished, not doing things like this.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Xi Ruan asked, seeing Ji Mingxiao’s expression after she had finished selecting her mission.
“You’ve changed a lot.”
Xi Ruan pursed her lips. “Are you trying to say I’ve matured? It’s impossible not to here; it’s full of schemes and you can be tricked in a heartbeat.”
“You’re not alone anymore.”
Xi Ruan looked at Ji Mingxiao. “Aren’t you afraid I’m a bad person?”
“You’re so silly, so probably not. Even if you mature, your intelligence won’t change.”
Xi Ruan raised her hand again and patted Ji Mingxiao’s back. “Looks like I really used to pat you a lot; I can’t seem to stop myself.”
Ji Mingxiao laughed and put an arm around Xi Ruan’s neck. “It’s fine, it’s good to be a little silly. I’ll protect you.”
“Tsk, you’d better protect yourself. I’m the senior here.”
“I’m five years older than you,” Ji Mingxiao said, patting Xi Ruan’s head. “Call me ‘Jie-jie.’ I’ve always wanted you to call me that, and now I finally have a legitimate reason.”
“No way,” Xi Ruan yawned. “I’m going back to sleep. And as a heads-up, there’s no need to upgrade your room.”
“So you’ve upgraded?”
“Nope. I guess I didn’t have enough points when I first wanted to, and by the time I did, I didn’t feel like it anymore.”
“Okay.”
The two of them went back to their respective rooms.
Ji Mingxiao didn’t really feel like sleeping. After taking a shower, she opened her wristband and continued to research.
It had everything from TV shows to movies, as well as plenty of e-books, and over eight thousand languages. She had no idea how many races there were in this place.
The wristband also came with its own forum for mission takers to communicate. There were a lot of people selling things on it, all sorts of bizarre items, and she had no idea where they came from.
Ji Mingxiao took a quick look, but didn’t find any useful information.
She then opened the mall.
“Sweetie, the mall can be opened at any time, so you can wait until you’re in the mission world to buy some things.”
“I just want to see what’s here first.” Ji Mingxiao glanced over the items. The cheapest thing was a toothpick, one point per toothpick. She was speechless. “They can sell these by the piece?”
“They’re reusable toothpicks, not disposable ones. After you use them, you put them back in your wristband’s backpack, and they get sanitized automatically! They’re a must-have for home and travel!” System A said.
Ji Mingxiao didn’t want to say anything. The next cheapest thing after the toothpicks was five hundred points, for various props and daily necessities.
Under these circumstances, to save five million, it was best not to rest. Even with half a year’s time, what good was it if she had no money on her?
She put the wristband away.
“Host, you don’t have to wait for Xi Ruan.”
“You’re right, let’s just start.” After letting Xi Ruan know, Ji Mingxiao went straight into the next world.
In times like these, it was better to work more.
She hoped for an S-class world; that would be ten thousand points.
“Host, I hope you can respect the original character’s persona. The more you align with it, the more bonus points you’ll receive. Don’t try to break the world’s plot. If the world collapses, you’ll be erased, and everyone else in it will be affected.”
“Got it,” Ji Mingxiao nodded.
System A sounded a little helpless. “I’m really worried sick about you.”
Ji Mingxiao: …
She lay on the bed and yawned.
The system began the transfer.
Ji Mingxiao closed her eyes.
When Ji Mingxiao opened her eyes again, she was in a different space.
It was a very large room. You could tell from the decor that it belonged to a wealthy family.
She briefly learned about the new world. It was largely no different from the last one, but it was much more progressive, and same-sex marriage was now recognized.
In this world, her name was Nanyu, a gentle young lady from a prominent family. She was still in school, and her daily life consisted of attending classes, doing experiments, and chatting with her friends.
Two years ago, she married the eldest daughter of the Su family, Su Mian, who was the current CEO of Su Corporation.
Nanyu and Su Mian’s marriage was an arranged one. They were in a state of mutual respect but rarely interacted or spoke to each other.
It was Su Mian who had originally proposed the marriage, saying she would be good to Nanyu, but after she was brought home, she was basically left to the side.
Later, Nanyu discovered that Su Mian had only married her because she looked like Su Mian’s first love. When the first love returned, Su Mian took action against the Nan family, framed Nanyu for cheating, and kicked her out of the Su family.
Nanyu had no feelings for Su Mian, but what she hated was that Su Mian had done something wrong yet still wanted to stand on the moral high ground.
Nanyu was slandered and forced to leave Su Mian, while Su Mian became the victim. She then joined forces with her first love to attack the Nan family, and no one else would think anything of it.
Ji Mingxiao frowned. “System, that’s what you call a scumbag.”
System A: …
“I know,” System A said. “You don’t need to emphasize it.”
“You don’t know what I’ve done?”
“I do. You change girlfriends like you change clothes, with no gap in between.”
Ji Mingxiao was a bit speechless. “I’m very curious about your statistics. They say I have twenty-seven girlfriends a year, but I’ve barely had any girlfriends at all.”
“Oh, so you were just playing around? That’s why you’re a scumbag,” System A said thoughtfully.
“I just looked for people who resembled Ruan Ruan, and had them sit there for me to look at! We barely even talked, and I paid them! How am I a scumbag?! I barely even touched a girl’s hand!”
System A: …
“What exactly is your definition of a girlfriend?”
System A fell silent again. “Should I ask the higher-ups for you?”
“No need, thanks. Just leave it,” Ji Mingxiao said, feeling a bit helpless. “If you hadn’t miscalculated, I probably wouldn’t have ended up here in the first place.”
Ji Mingxiao got out of bed and went to look in the mirror.
Nanyu herself had a very gentle appearance. Without makeup, she looked quite meek.
But the person in the body was Ji Mingxiao, and her eyes held a hint of sharpness.
She decided to act according to the persona this time and become a pure, saintly white lotus.
With this appearance, it would be a waste not to make good use of it.
Besides, she was in a vulnerable position right now, so it was better to be cautious.
Ji Mingxiao still preferred being a domineering CEO; the gentle approach didn’t suit her.
She touched her face again, brushed her teeth, washed her face, and then put on a pure ‘little white flower’ makeup look before leaving the room.
