- The Honest Man Was Targeted by His Ex-Boyfriend's Alpha Brother
- Chapter 22 - Dinner: No Time to Hide
Hua Jingchen’s expression turned hideously dark. He lunged forward, reaching for Hua Yunlian’s collar. However, before he could get close, a powerful wall of oppressive pheromones surged between them, making it impossible for him to advance. This was a natural suppression of the food chain, a sign of the purer Alpha bloodline within the Hua family.
For over a decade, the eldest son of the Hua family had looked down on his illegitimate younger brother. Now, that brother mockingly held his ex-boyfriend’s slender waist, watching Hua Jingchen struggle in his pathetic state.
A faint, mocking smile played on Hua Yunlian’s lips. His cold eyes were like amber, a substance that could trap a biological corpse for tens of thousands of years without decay. He was beautiful yet deathly still, sending shivers down one’s spine.
“Big Brother,” he spoke with a tone of mock respect, “if you cannot hold yourself up, just kneel.”
The taste of iron rose in Hua Jingchen’s throat, and his glands throbbed with intense pain. He remembered when this brother was first brought back from the slum zoo. His behavior had been no different from a wild beast. He crawled on all fours and bared his teeth at anyone he saw. He could not speak human language, did not know how to use chopsticks, and refused to step into the sunlight.
That version of him was a far cry from the first time Hua Jingchen saw him. He had even suspected this lowly illegitimate child had rabies and secretly ordered servants to seize him and beat him to death in the plebeian market. On that day, the young Hua Jingchen witnessed a scene from behind a door that he would never forget.
A beast resembling a leopard opened its massive maw and, with very little effort, bit through the waist of a servant holding a weapon. The other servants, who had intended to attack, were so terrified they soiled themselves and forgot how to run. In an instant, they became toys for the monster. He bit them to death with ease, pinning them under his paws, stepping on them, or tossing them into the air. The mixture of thick blood and piercing screams became Hua Jingchen’s nightmare.
This illegitimate son was not just a low-born wretch. He was a monster! He heard from his father that this was a hallmark of the Hua family’s pure bloodline. But why had he not experienced this atavism?
Later, Hua Yunlian’s condition improved slightly. He could manage basic communication and began attending the elite high school where Hua Jingchen was a student. Hua Jingchen did not give up easily; he continued to instigate his classmates to bully him. Since Hua Jingchen had always excelled academically and was seen as gentle and generous, both the well-behaved and rebellious students liked him. They pitied him for having a brother appear out of nowhere. Naturally, they began to target Hua Yunlian, the son of a prostitute.
But the outcome was always the same. Physical force could not suppress Hua Yunlian. Every classmate who cornered him, hoping to teach him a lesson, ended up running out of the alleyways bruised, swollen, and crying.
In their senior year of high school, Hua Jingchen even tried to stop Chen Wang from interacting with Hua Yunlian. He did not expect that many years later, they would still be entangled. Hua Jingchen knew his father’s nature; he valued bloodline and strength above all. He had already sensed his declining status within the Hua family. Therefore, he was even more unwilling to let go.
That was why he chose Ye Chengruo as his fiancé. Beyond the powerful business alliance, their pheromone compatibility was higher. Ye Chengruo was healthy and strong; they were bound to produce a high-level young Alpha first!
Thinking of this, Hua Jingchen stopped fighting with Hua Yunlian. He gave him a cold look and turned to leave the room to check on his fiancé. A crowd had gathered by the roadside to watch the commotion, but no one dared to step forward to help.
The moment the door opened, Ye Chengruo’s agonizing scream pierced through. It was a sound like nails scratching a blackboard, grating harshly against the eardrums. Chen Wang flinched, his skin crawling. His instinct as a doctor made him move toward the noise to help.
“Hey,” a hand gripped his wrist. He turned to meet Hua Yunlian’s displeased, cold face. “Where is the Male Bodhisattva going now?”
Chen Wang’s tendency to forget the pain as soon as the wound healed was infuriating. Hua Yunlian dragged him out of the cafe regardless of his protests. He let others clean up the mess; he was only responsible for lighting the fire, never for the consequences.
The sky gradually darkened. The figure walking in front was nearly one hundred ninety centimeters tall. He had long legs and a cold, sharp aura. Combined with his breathtakingly handsome, exotic features, he drew a lot of attention as they walked through the commercial street.
Chen Wang felt conflicted. He always instinctively felt that Hua Yunlian was a few years younger than him, in the same generation as his sister, Chen Yuxi, making them both children. When he spoke or acted around him, he unconsciously adopted the role of an older brother. He felt he should be indulgent, provide guidance, and even be a bit doting.
However, as he gazed at this tall, muscular figure and thought about how he vented his desires on him without restraint, backing him into a corner, he realized he could no longer view him as a child.
Chen Wang stared at the hand that had just let go of him and suddenly asked, “Were you defending me just now? It was too much. You should not have broken his leg,” he advised calmly.
This made Hua Yunlian laugh. He turned back to look at him with surprise. “Brother, you are sometimes so directly narcissistic. Do not forget that I was in that cold storage too. If he had frozen me to death, I would have made the entire Ye family pay with their lives.”
His desire for revenge was strong. Just thinking about Ye Chengruo’s nonchalant attitude when apologizing made the veins on his forehead pulse. “If that Omega did not have some business dealings with the group, he would be dead already.”
Chen Wang was momentarily silenced by his brutality. Hua Yunlian’s gaze swept over him quickly, and he mocked him with a smirk. “You are twenty-seven. Stop reading so many romance stories.”
Chen Wang said nothing more. He was not good at arguing or bickering, nor was he good at flirting or playing ambiguous games. Over the years, besides studying, Chen Wang had focused on scientific research. He did not even have the energy to waste on sentimentality, which was very different from Hua Yunlian.
The young Master Hua knew there was a bar street nearby. Since he did not plan to work tonight, he figured he might as well enjoy some fine wine as the neon lights began to shine. Then, he would have a few rounds with his brother.
Unexpectedly, Chen Wang fiddled with his phone, consolidating his balance into one card and calculating the taxi shift rotation times. He said to him, “Are you hungry? I will take you to get something to eat.”
Hua Yunlian curled his lips reluctantly, but the faint spark in his eyes betrayed him. “You are treating me to dinner?”
Chen Wang replied, “Yeah, stop complaining.”
A moment later, the young master in his casual luxury suit stood in a noisy, old-fashioned noodle shop, frowning in disbelief at everything. The heat in the room hit his face, mixed with the simple aroma of meat and noodles.
“My god,” he muttered.
He stood there like a towering pillar, lacking any situational awareness and getting in the way of the waiters. Chen Wang grabbed him and pulled him toward a crowded table. “Come on, it is hard to find an empty table.”
Hua Yunlian stood still, his brow furrowed, glancing disdainfully at the chairs and table covered in a layer of old grease. He arrogantly lifted his chin. “No.”
A pampered young master was indeed hard to please. Chen Wang rolled his eyes, took out a wet wipe, and meticulously cleaned the table and chairs. Hua Yunlian finally sat down with a flourish of his long legs.
Chen Wang ordered two bowls of Zhajiangmian. The person across from him did not object, claiming he was not a picky eater. During the short wait for the food, Chen Wang truly felt he was more difficult to serve than an Omega; he was either thirsty or hot. When offered a bottle of mineral water from the shop that cost only two yuan, the young master’s nose went practically into the sky.
Out of consideration for the fact that Hua Yunlian was carrying his debt, Chen Wang pressed his throbbing temples and told him to wait. He went to a twenty-four-hour convenience store on the street to buy the specific brand of water Hua Yunlian demanded.
However, when he returned, Chen Wang saw the picky Alpha take a breakfast wheat milk worth one yuan from the freezer. Back at the seat, he inserted the straw and finished it in a few gulps.
The way he drank so greedily made Chen Wang knit his brows. For a moment, it felt strangely familiar. “Young Master,” Chen Wang slapped the twenty-yuan bottle of water on the table in annoyance, “if you wanted to drink that, you should have said so. I have never bought such expensive mineral water before.”
Hua Yunlian had chewed the straw in his mouth into a mess. The drink had nothing to do with wheat and even less to do with milk; it was purely a low-quality beverage concocted with various artificial flavors. Seeing that Chen Wang had no memory of it at all, Hua Yunlian’s light-colored eyelashes trembled as he looked down. He let out a cold snort and said nothing.
The small restaurant was filled with the atmosphere of everyday life. As Chen Wang ate, he noticed groups of diners, many of whom were families or young couples. A secret sense of envy rose in his heart. The more one lacks something, the more one spends a lifetime pursuing it. He actually really wanted a home. A place where he no longer had to painstakingly package himself, but could be his most authentic and ordinary self.
Chopsticks flicked across the rim of his bowl. Chen Wang looked closer and saw Hua Yunlian frowning as he dumped all his green onions and cilantro into Chen Wang’s bowl.
Fine. This monster, who only knew how to perform, was a total mood killer. Just looking at him made Chen Wang’s waist ache.
Hua Yunlian’s patience was decent today. A person who had no habit of eating dinner at all had accompanied Chen Wang to eat in a place like this. Now, he could finally do what he wanted, right?
Unexpectedly, Chen Wang paid the bill and walked away toward another direction. “I am going to get my car for the night shift. Bye-bye.”
Hua Yunlian, with his hands in his pockets, was left standing at the entrance of the noodle shop. He was stunned.
An old man and woman walking their dog whispered as they passed by. “Hey, look at that silly foreigner!”
“Do not call him silly. What if he understands Chinese?”
“Impossible! Wearing a suit to eat Zhajiangmian? He must be a silly foreigner!”
Hua Yunlian was speechless.
Over the weekend, in the city library, Chen Wang took off his glasses and gently massaged his pressure points. The table was covered with a mountain of research materials on glandular genes, and his laptop was open to a paper written entirely in English. He pulled a business card out of his pocket, looking longingly at the gold-embossed logo.
This was the card Hua Jingchen had handed him that day. He had secretly kept it. He was still very passionate about genetic research. According to Chen Wang’s original plan, he would have entered either the Federal General Hospital or a genetic research institute. If he had not had a conflict with the governor’s son at graduation, resulting in a plagiarism scandal involving his graduation project and allegations of academic misconduct, he would not be restricted by the industry.
A phone call rang abruptly, interrupting his thoughts. Chen Wang rushed to the underground parking lot of the Hua Group headquarters. He did not know what was so urgent that Hua Yunlian had called him there. As he reached the driver’s side, before he could walk around to the passenger side, the door opened.
Hua Yunlian grabbed him and pulled him onto his lap, then shut the door. The spacious driver’s seat still felt a bit cramped with two grown men. The Alpha’s burning kisses fell recklessly on his neck.
“Brother, I missed you so much.”
Chen Wang sat astride him, propping himself up slightly, his earlobes turning a deep red. “So, you said there was a major issue. Is this it?”
“Is this not a major issue?” Hua Yunlian grabbed his hand and pressed it against his burning heat.
Chen Wang withdrew his hand as if he had been shocked, glaring at the willful young master with a flushed face. Hua Yunlian opened a compartment, tossed a condom to him, and lazily released his mating pheromones. “Be good. Put it on for me.”
“Someone could come into the parking lot at any moment,” Chen Wang’s heart pounded like a drum.
Seeing him holding it without moving, Hua Yunlian’s patience lasted less than three seconds. He snatched the condom from his hand and threw it aside. “It is better not to wear it. I will be more comfortable. Besides, a Beta cannot get pregnant anyway.”
He had truly overestimated Chen Wang’s courage. It was just a parking lot, but Chen Wang was so terrified he was even afraid to kiss. Hua Yunlian let out a raspy laugh, feeling as though he had kidnapped a star student for an affair. He forcefully turned Chen Wang’s burning face toward him and kissed him fiercely, his eyes slightly open as he watched the other man’s evasive expression.
He lost himself, his expression looking pitiful. He did not even notice the saliva trickling from the corner of his mouth. At that moment, he clearly saw two people walking toward the adjacent parking spot through the car window. One was a female Omega and the other was a female Alpha. They looked incredibly familiar.
Hua Yunlian saw them too and said with a husky laugh, “That little Omega is named Qiao Yuan. She is my nominal fiancée, the one your sister marked temporarily.”
Qiao Yuan’s car was parked right next to them. Chen Yuxi followed behind her, frowning. “Where has my brother gone lately? That bastard Hua Yunlian has not sold him off, has he?”
Chen Wang’s eyes widened. Discovering his sister was there, he was terrified, but there was no time to hide. Hua Yunlian took advantage of his distraction and entered him directly.
A surge of sharp pain and a strange sensation hit him. Chen Wang’s thin back arched instantly. He even forgot to scream, propping himself up on the man’s chest while trembling all over.
