- Chapter 8 - Make Him Get Back Here
A sense of foreboding washed over Cen Li, and it was quickly confirmed.
“He was taken away by the members of the Male Insect Protection Association.”
Admiral Derek continued, “Asher put you in danger; he must receive the punishment he deserves.”
“What?!”
The Male Insect Protection Association was an organization specifically established by the Empire to protect males. They were notoriously biased toward males; any military female who committed an error and was sent to the Disciplinary Center would, without exception, meet a grim end.
Cen Li felt a massive headache coming on and rubbed the bridge of his nose. In Admiral Derek’s eyes, this gesture suggested that Cen Li was feeling unwell again.
The Admiral’s expression darkened. “I will make sure they punish Asher thoroughly. As a female attendant, how could he allow his Master to get hurt?!”
Cen Li’s movements stiffened. Facing Admiral Derek’s blatant favoritism, he felt like crying but had no tears. He emphasized, “Asher really did not do anything to me.”
“Father, please let him come back.”
Admiral Derek looked at Cen Li with suspicion, as if weighing the truth of his words and wondering if Asher would harm Cen Li again. In his heart, he was already certain that Cen Li’s accident was Asher’s fault.
Under a reminder from the System, Cen Li realized he was deviating from his character setting. Consequently, in the next second, he spoke with a low, sullen voice.
“Make him crawl back here!”
“I want to punish him personally.”
This gloomy tone instantly put Admiral Derek at ease. Excellent—his little Li was still the same little Li as before; he had not suffered any mental shock.
Admiral Derek relented, “I will tell them to send him back.”
He agreed very readily, wishing he could deliver the insect to Cen Li this instant to let him vent his anger.
Cen Li: “…”
Halfway through, Admiral Derek received a notice from the military headquarters and left first. Soon, only Cen Li and Xi Ya remained in the room. Xi Ya shrunk into the corner, looking as though he did not want to be noticed by Cen Li.
Cen Li lay bored on the hospital bed. After playing dead for nearly an hour, he suddenly threw off the covers and spoke up.
“I am discharging myself!”
Xi Ya’s body shook with terror. “Master, the doctor said you still need to be observed for a few more days.”
Furthermore, Admiral Derek had instructed him to take good care of Cen Li. If the Admiral found out Cen Li had been discharged early, he might blame him.
Cen Li narrowed his eyes threateningly: “Do not make me say it twice.”
Xi Ya nearly fell to his knees. His face was a mask of hesitation and conflict, but in the end, unable to withstand Cen Li’s pressure, he briskly went to handle the discharge procedures.
During the process, the doctors heard that Cen Li wanted to leave just after waking up and rushed over to persuade him otherwise. However, Cen Li remained firm, and they were left helpless.
Thus, Cen Li successfully left the hospital.
On the aircraft, Cen Li noticed Xi Ya secretly glancing at him several times from the opposite side. Though puzzled, Cen Li looked at Xi Ya with feigned displeasure.
“What are you looking at?”
Xi Ya pulled his neck back and instantly retracted his gaze. “No, nothing, Master.”
His face turned pale; he had almost forgotten that his Master hated being stared at the most.
Cen Li felt something was off. He said with certainty, “You were looking at my face.”
“Why?”
“Is there something on my face?”
Cen Li found it strange. Did the original owner not always have a face full of black spots? What did Xi Ya mean by constantly peeking at him now? Could it be that his face was stained with something dirty?
Cen Li instinctively reached out to touch his face.
Xi Ya was startled by Cen Li’s movement. He knew he could not avoid this interrogation. He looked over subtly and said cautiously, “Your face, it seems a bit different.”
Xi Ya spoke with extreme care, avoiding words that might trigger Cen Li. He tentatively handed over a mirror, then suddenly remembered the male’s aversion to mirrors.
Xi Ya hurried to pull his hand back, but the mirror reached the male’s hand first.
Xi Ya’s heart skipped a beat. Seeing the male look into the mirror, his internal fear became more apparent. He prayed the male would simply smash the mirror on the floor.
However, his wish was not granted. Cen Li looked into the mirror very carefully and seriously.
Good. He was still sporting a face full of dark, heavy blotches.
But, the narrow eyes in the mirror gradually narrowed further. Cen Li frowned and poked 007 in his mind: “System, why do I feel like the spots on my face have faded a bit?”
In the past, his face was almost entirely covered by large black spots. Now, they looked much lighter, faintly revealing a complexion that was pale from a lack of sunlight.
Cen Li’s heart stirred, and he tried to move his habitually weak left leg. Unfortunately, the left leg remained as motionless as ever.
Seeing that Cen Li was finally talking to it again, 007 suppressed its internal excitement and spoke in a tone of seeking credit: “It must be the electric current that catalyzed your recovery process! An electric shock bestowed by the Lord God is a rare opportunity.”
Cen Li was stunned, then gave a cold laugh.
“Heh.”
“Sounds like a great honor. How about I give this blessing to you instead? Do you want it?”
007 choked, crying inwardly. The host was so mean.
The fact that the recovery process had sped up was a good thing. After being shocked twice in a row, Cen Li’s sense of frustration at being forced to do tasks was deeper than ever. He could not muster any thoughts of rebellion now.
To put it simply: he was terrified of the shocks.
Cen Li thought that if there were another plotline involving a flower planted in cow dung next time, he might actually compromise.
Xi Ya waited and waited but did not see the Master smash the mirror. Instead, he saw him reveal a smile that could only be described as eerie.
Xi Ya: “…”
His heart panicked; he was even more terrified now, shrinking into the corner to try and lower his presence. At the same time, he searched his mind desperately: Where did it go wrong?
Although the male had not taken the potion provided by that person over the past few days, the toxins accumulated in his body should not have dissipated for no reason. Xi Ya was completely baffled.
The fading spots on Cen Li’s face looked like a signal that he was about to recover. Xi Ya pinched his fingertips, suppressing his unease. He had to report this to that person; otherwise, when they discovered it themselves, they certainly would not be lenient.
Cen Li was unaware of Xi Ya’s complex inner monologue. He casually tossed the mirror aside.
Just then, the aircraft stopped. The hatch was lowered. Cen Li operated his wheelchair to get off the aircraft, with Xi Ya following silently behind him.
When Xi Ya first became Cen Li’s female attendant, in order to gain the male’s favor, he had thought about helping push the wheelchair and showing initiative. However, he was stopped by the male’s violent reaction. That day, Xi Ya was not only harshly scolded but also forced to kneel for an entire night.
The next day, his legs had no feeling. Xi Ya almost thought he would need an amputation and would live his life tied to a wheelchair just like Cen Li. Fortunately, it was not as bad as he thought. From then on, Xi Ya treated Cen Li with even more caution, fearing he might annoy him again.
Just as Cen Li got off the aircraft, he saw an insect kneeling at the entrance.
It was Asher.
He did not know how Asher had gotten news of his discharge, or how long he had been kneeling there.
