- Chapter 40 - Asher’s Mental Riot
Seeing that Cen Li was about to turn and leave, Admiral Derek reached out an arm to stop him. He spoke up in dissuasion.
“You are not going to find Asher, are you?”
“It has only been three days; nothing will happen to him. The highest record for a military insect going without food or water is seven days.”
Hearing this, Cen Li’s heart did not feel any lighter. Asher should not have been subjected to this punishment. Sleeping in his room was a result that Cen Li had tacitly allowed. He just had not expected Mikhail and Duke Yolai to interfere.
Duke Yolai might have wanted to help him establish authority, but Cen Li was repulsed by this kind of meddling.
Seeing that Cen Li was not listening at all, Derek became anxious. “Do not go against your male father! It is nothing for a female concubine like Asher to take a little punishment.”
“It is just solitary confinement; a military insect will not get hurt.”
Cen Li moved Derek’s hand away and said in a heavy voice, “I know what I am doing, female father.”
Derek watched the direction Cen Li left, pacing back and forth anxiously. This cub was truly different from before; was he not caring a bit too much about Asher now?
The dark basement was cramped and damp, smelling strongly of rust. The humid air was thick with a nauseating scent of blood. Prison cells lined both sides of the hallway. The environment was crude and tiny. Not knowing which room Asher was in, Cen Li had to search them one by one.
As he drew closer to the end, faint voices reached his ears. It sounded like more than one insect. Who else was here? Cen Li’s brow furrowed, and his pace quickened.
Suddenly, a flurry of chaotic footsteps came from ahead, accompanied by panicked screams.
“This is bad! He is having a mental riot!”
“Run!”
“This place cannot hold him at all! Once an S-rank military insect has a mental riot, this whole area will turn into ruins!”
“Quickly, cover the Lord so he can escape!”
If Cen Li remembered correctly, Asher’s rank was S-rank. It could not be such a coincidence, could it?
Cen Li practically ran to the scene. The situation was too urgent for much thought; he only wanted to confirm if it was Asher.
“Help!”
“Ugh”
A familiar voice.
When Cen Li arrived, a blood-covered Asher was choking Mikhail by the neck, the veins on the back of his hand bulging. The male insect’s face was flushed red, his legs kicking wildly, and his eyes were nearly rolling back into his head.
Attendant insects lay scattered all over the ground. The arrogant and overbearing male was now reduced to a rag doll that could be easily torn apart in Asher’s hands.
Asher was having a mental riot!
Logically, the mental therapy from last time should have soothed the female’s mental power and kept it within a normal level. There was only one possibility for Asher to have a mental riot now: he had been severely provoked!
The military insect’s eyes were bloodshot, and his reason was completely gone. The important thing now was to call back his sanity, otherwise, Asher’s consciousness would slowly fade until he became a mindless monster. If that happened, the only fate awaiting him was to be executed by his own kind.
Cen Li naturally could not watch such a thing happen. The moment he reacted, he rushed in front of Asher. His mental power, condensed into the shape of a sharp sword, carved a gap through the rampaging energy surrounding the military insect.
The process went smoothly because the mental powers of the two insects had blended not long ago. Asher’s perception of Cen Li’s mental power remained at a gentle and harmless level.
To Asher, Cen Li’s sudden intrusion into his vision was nothing less than a provocation. Mikhail, sensing something in his near-death state, let out broken syllables from his throat.
“Save, save me”
Cen Li took advantage of Asher’s attention shifting to him and snatched Mikhail away. Then, he tossed him aside like a piece of trash. With a dull thud, the heavy object hit the ground. Mikhail’s eyes closed, and he fell completely unconscious.
Cen Li did not pay him much attention; if he had to say, Mikhail had brought this on himself. But he could not die now. At least, he could not die at Asher’s hands, or else Asher would be taken away by the Imperial legal department and subjected to eighteen kinds of capital punishment.
A second later, and Mikhail might have been strangled to death.
“Asher!”
“Calm down!”
Cen Li grabbed Asher’s shoulders with both hands, forcing him to look directly at him, hoping he would remember something. But it was clearly useless for a military insect in the middle of a mental riot.
Asher, with his eyes crimson, even launched an attack on Cen Li!
Sharp mental spikes struck head-on, slicing through the air with a buzzing hum. The two insects were too close for Cen Li to dodge, and he had never imagined Asher would attack him. This was an attack from an S-rank military insect with rich combat experience!
Without surprise, Cen Li was injured. This was the result even after he tried to dodge. A thin cut appeared on his cheek, and a string of blood droplets fell immediately.
Pheromones began to drift out. Asher’s pupils narrowed into vertical slits like needles, and his footsteps slowed for a moment.
“So fragrant”
Cen Li’s eyes flickered, realizing something. He immediately released more pheromones, surrounding Asher. At the same time, he seized the opportunity to pour out several mental pillars, firmly binding Asher’s upper body.
Cen Li was not sure if the other party could break free. Asher struggled hard twice, looking as if he might snap the mental threads at any moment, making Cen Li’s eyelids twitch.
Soon, Asher stopped moving and clutched his head, his face showing pain. Cen Li guessed that the pheromones were working and the other’s consciousness was reviving.
“Asher, are you all right?”
Cen Li took a few steps forward, maintaining a safe distance. If Asher wanted to, he could certainly break the shackles of his mental power.
“Master?”
A tearing pain filled Asher’s brain, as if a rod were stirring violently, giving him a splitting headache. Suddenly, he smelled a familiar scent of pheromones. It was the Master. The figure of a silver-haired, blue-eyed male suddenly appeared before Asher’s eyes.
As soon as Cen Li’s eyes met Asher’s, he heard the other shout, “Master, leave quickly! I am very likely to hurt you!”
Asher had regained clarity, but the triggered mental riot had not subsided. Seeing Asher’s suffering, Cen Li frowned. “If I leave, what about you?”
Asher gritted his teeth. “You do not need to worry about me.”
The military insect was afraid of hurting Cen Li and even hid himself in a corner. When the pain reached its peak, he would violently punch the wall, leaving behind several deep pits.
Leaving now was impossible. Cen Li stared at Asher’s bleeding hand, where the bone was almost visible, and his tone gradually turned cold.
“Are you going to smash your hand to pieces?”
Asher watched the Master walk toward him step by step and took a step back. He was already soaked in cold sweat. “I really will hurt you.”
