The Heartless Alpha Just Wants to Follow the Plot - Chapter 29
“I said my body wasn’t up to it,” Su Mo said. “That I failed to mark Qiu Fu.”
Pu Ying: “……”
She was genuinely so exasperated she almost laughed.
What kind of excuse was that?
Besides, whether Su Mo’s health was good or not, did she really think Old Master Su, who had always kept a close eye on his granddaughter, wouldn’t know?
Pu Ying truly couldn’t understand how Su M had come up with such an absurd reason. It was practically a public declaration that she was lying.
Rubbing her forehead, Pu Ying felt, for the first time, a surge of concern over Su Mo’s intelligence.
“You could’ve picked literally any better excuse,” she said. “Why did it have to be this one?”
Su Mo didn’t know either. Somehow, her brain had short-circuited in the moment. And now that the words were already out, there was no taking them back.
“Anyway, that’s where things stand now,” she said. “Grandpa wants me to give up on Qiu Fu and go on blind dates. He even said.”
Thinking of Old Master Su’s words, if others don’t work out, then Pu Ying would do, Su Mo found herself unable to finish the sentence.
Seeing her hesitate, Pu Ying guessed that the rest probably involved her. Her heartbeat jumped involuntarily, but she masked it, prompting casually, “He said what?”
How was she supposed to say it?
That Grandpa favored you more?
Or that Grandpa actually wanted you to lead the Su family toward glory?
Su Mo cleared her throat and decisively changed the subject.
“Even though I said that, the truth is, I did mark her successfully. The medication in Qiu Fu’s system has been neutralized.”
Pu Ying, of course, already knew that. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have reacted so strongly when she saw Qiu Fu earlier that day.
Seeing that Su Mo clearly didn’t want to continue the topic, Pu Ying didn’t push further and followed her lead instead.
“I know. That’s why I arranged work for her.”
“Still, since it was her first marking, the scent of your pheromones on her is far too strong. She’ll probably need to wear a suppressor ring.”
Otherwise, her public image and her work wouldn’t be sustainable.
Su Mo pinched the bridge of her nose. “Mm. You handle it as you see fit.”
The moment work was mentioned, Pu Ying snapped back into her professional mode—serious, composed, and sharp.
“We’re at the hospital,” she said. “From now on, if you plan to do anything, you must inform me first. Wait for my decision before acting.”
Su Mo nodded. “Understood.”
The two got off the aircraft and stopped outside a hospital room. Su Mo had on sunglasses and a mask. Pu Ying knocked lightly.
“Who is it?” came a voice from inside.
Pu Ying replied, “We’re the ones who saved you. May we come in?”
“Please come in.”
The voice was hoarse, so raspy it sounded like the throat itself had been injured.
Pu Ying paused briefly before pushing the door open. “We’re coming in.”
Although Pu Ying opened the door, Su Mo entered first.
Her long, straight legs were striking, dressed in light-colored jeans that accentuated their strength and length perfectly. She wore a fuzzy knit sweater that was slightly oversized, slipping just enough to reveal half of her smooth, rounded shoulder.
She sat down on the chair beside the bed, crossing one long leg over the other. Removing her sunglasses and mask, her stunningly refined features came fully into view.
The impact she had on Tan Ya was no less overwhelming than the first unexpected kindness she’d once received from the housemaid.
“Hello,” Su Mo said calmly. “I’m Su Mo.”
Maintaining her aloof, arrogant persona, she didn’t extend a hand only gave a slight nod.
Pu Ying closed the door and stood behind her, her expression neutral.
“My name is Pu Ying. I’m Su Mo’s agent.”
Tan Ya snapped out of her daze, shifting her gaze to Pu Ying. The feeling this person gave her was one of vigilance laced with subtle coldness.
It was as if Pu Ying feared she might cause trouble for the person in front of her—a kind of guarded distance Tan Ya knew all too well.
“My name is.”
Her voice was hoarse, like sand scraping against her throat. “Tan Ya.”
“Tan Ya,” Su Mo repeated, nodding. “A good name.”
Then she got straight to the point.
“Do you want me to report this to the police? The place they chose was remote, but not completely deserted. Hidden cameras still captured some footage. With facial and body recognition systems, if we put in enough effort, we can find them.”
Tan Ya stared at Su Mo’s expression—one that clearly said I don’t mind either way. After a moment, she asked quietly:
“Why are you helping me?”
Her body still hadn’t fully recovered. After being imprisoned for so many years, merely surviving was already a miracle.
Her parents’ sudden deaths had dealt her a devastating blow. Her mind had been in chaos, and soon after, her family estate was entirely seized by her uncle’s household. Not long after that, she was imprisoned outright, kept like a dog.
If not for the fear that outsiders might investigate Tan Ya’s situation, Tan Xing would’ve killed his niece long ago.
Unfortunately for him, no matter how brutally she was abused, Tan Ya’s life was stubbornly resilient.
That was why he’d finally decided to kill her.
According to his plan, the area near the wealthy villa district was filled with unused natural forest—remote, isolated. Everyone traveled by aircraft; no one would ever notice a person lying there.
Tan Ya was gravely injured. Whether she’d even regain consciousness was uncertain, let alone crawl far enough to seek help.
Wait a few days. If no one found her, she’d die naturally.
Then they’d release a statement saying Tan Ya had suffered a sudden illness and escaped from the sanatorium. By the time anyone discovered her body, there’d be no evidence left.
Even if someone found it suspicious, without proof—who could overturn the case?
No one had expected a variable.
Someone had intervened.
And saved her.
Tan Xing’s expression darkened as he listened to his subordinates’ report. He touched the pocket watch on his wrist.
This wouldn’t do.
If she was discovered, everything he had worked for would collapse. Everything he’d finally obtained—handed right back.
He’d barely enjoyed it.
How could he possibly let that happen?
“Go,” he ordered coldly. “Find out who rescued her.”
“With injuries like hers, if she’s alive, she must be in a hospital. Dispatch several teams, investigate separately. Do not draw attention.”
A flash of vicious intent crossed his eyes.
“Keeping her alive back then was a mistake. I was too soft-hearted. This time, she must die.”
“I don’t need to explain how this should be handled,” he added.
The subordinate who had followed Tan Xing for years and done more than enough dirty work nodded immediately.
“Understood. I’ll arrange everything right away. I guarantee it’ll be handled cleanly.”
Tan Xing said flatly, “Failure is not an option.”
“No matter who saved her, we have to find a way to kill them.”
Ideally, the person who rescued Tan Ya would be an ordinary wealthy individual or someone inconspicuous within a prominent family. That way, to maintain appearances and protect their reputation, the family would almost certainly offer a hefty payoff to keep quiet.
At the thought of this, Tan Xing grinned. He knew these elite families inside out.
Receiving a message from his subordinate stationed nearby, Su Ying’s brows knitted tightly. Tan Xing was truly audacious. At a time like this, he could have simply slipped away but instead, he was thinking of extorting money. Greedy to the end, as usual.
She nudged Su Mo and showed her the message. Su Mo’s brow furrowed. “He’s really fearless and now he’s trying to extort me too.”
“If he wants money that badly, then give it to him, make it a large sum.”
A cold smirk curved Su Mo’s lips. She wasn’t skilled in business warfare, but she had people who were.
To destroy someone doesn’t always require your own hands. Assign it to professionals. They could make the target suffer far more than you ever could imagine.
Adjusting her glasses, Pu Ying immediately understood. “Got it.”
“People like him care about nothing more than money and face. Anyone clutching ill-gotten wealth like this deserves to have their hands cut off.”
With that, she issued orders, and her team sprang into action.
Before proceeding, she asked Tan Ya, “Are you sure you don’t want to call the police and recover your property through legal means?”
Tan Ya lowered her head, lost in thought, and didn’t answer.
Su Mo lifted her chin, forcing her to meet her gaze, and instructed authoritatively, “Be someone who lifts their chin, not someone who cowers and dares nothing.”
Tan Ya’s eyes were filled with confusion, reflecting insecurity and fear.
Seeing her like this, Su Mo could hardly imagine that this young girl would one day avenge her lover, send the original owner to prison, drive them to madness, and even bring a powerful family like the Su family to ruin—leaving no stone unturned, exacting revenge down to the ashes.
Su Mo wanted to ask the system if it had made a mistake. This girl looked like a lost little fawn—so innocent and adorable.
But at eighteen, just entering the differentiation period, she really was still very young.
Sensing Su Mo’s thoughts, the system quietly poked its head in to warn, [Host, be careful, don’t underestimate her!]
Su Mo replied, [But she really does look pitiful.]
System: [Once she’s up and running, your own end will be pitiful too.]
Su Mo: “…”
True, the system was right. But it had sent her to rescue this girl, yet forbade her from getting close or clinging to her leg, it was very contradictory.
The system lectured patiently: [Host, calm down. Just because someone is cute doesn’t mean you start scheming. We must stick to the storyline alone, not turn this into a harem story!]
Su Mo blinked. Harem story? She’d never written one. She was just following her character, doing what her role required!
System: [That’s not a harem, that’s wanting to give every pretty sister a home, you illiterate fool.]
Su Mo: [Pfft.]
Meanwhile, Tan Ya’s once-dead heart began stirring, captivated by the reflection of Su Mo in her proud, clear eyes.
Noticing the subtle shift in Tan Ya’s gaze, Pu Ying frowned and quickly pulled Su Mo’s hand back. This girl was unpredictable, what if she lunged and bit her? Something about her seemed off, strange.
Watching Pu Ying protect Su Mo so fiercely, a deeper fire ignited in Tan Ya’s eyes.
These two clearly had a unique connection.
And yet.
She liked it.
