The Green Tea Omega Has Turned Bad - Chapter 19
The next morning, Class F was much quieter than usual.
With the big exam approaching, the atmosphere was thick with academic tension. Even the slackers couldn’t help but recite notes and try to guess possible exam questions, desperately clinging to any last-minute “Buddha’s feet” for luck.
Yan Xia finished her final review. Feeling that she had memorized all the key points, she packed her bag and sat at her desk with her eyes closed to rest her mind.
In the eyes of Jiang He, who was sitting beside her, this scene took on a completely different meaning: Yan Xia had finally given up on her “top student” persona and was finally facing the reality that she was about to fail!
As expected, all that talk about studying hard a few days ago was nothing more than a passing whim.
“Now, this looks more like you. Why bother acting like a good student these past few days?” Jiang He tapped Yan Xia’s desk with her index finger, her tone carrying its usual mockery. “If you fail, you fail. Everyone is used to it; no one is going to say anything.”
In the past, when she spoke to Yan Xia like this, the girl would only lower her head and respond submissively.
Thinking of her own decent ranking in the last weekly quiz compared to Yan Xia’s abysmal grades, Jiang He felt a sudden surge of superiority.
At that moment, Yan Xia opened her eyes. “The person who splashed water on me that day… it was you, wasn’t it?”
Jiang He paused.
“What nonsense are you talking about?” She lowered her voice unnaturally, asking with feigned indignation, “Yan Xia, how can you suspect me? Aren’t we friends?”
Yan Xia remained perfectly calm. “When I returned to the classroom that day, I saw rust from the water bucket stained on your fingers.”
Startled, Jiang He covered her index finger and averted her gaze as if trying to flee. She muttered, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Jiang He, this isn’t the first time you’ve done something like this.” The air was humid and heavy, yet Yan Xia’s tone was chilling. “I can’t tolerate you every single time.”
The atmosphere grew heavy. The scent of fruit-flavored pheromones in the air became somewhat aggressive and pungent. Jiang He swallowed hard, refusing to back down. “I told you, I don’t know!”
A look of disappointment gradually washed over Yan Xia’s eyes.
“Actually, I already asked those other girls, and they all said you were there.” She lowered her head, her long eyelashes casting shadows over her eyes. Her voice was soft and dejected. “Like you said, we’re friends. If you were willing to admit it, I would definitely forgive you…”
Seeing this, Jiang He’s heart skipped a beat.
She was still relying on Yan Xia’s wealth and influence to get closer to Shang Wandong. She couldn’t afford to let their relationship break down before she was finished using her.
Jiang He scrambled to explain, “Why would you believe them? They’ve never liked you! We are the real friends here. If it weren’t for me when you were being cyberbullied last time, you would have been beaten half to death.”
Seeing Yan Xia remain silent with her head down, Jiang He thought she was getting through to her and continued persuasively, “Why didn’t you tell me when it happened? I stayed in the classroom after class and didn’t go anywhere. I had no idea you were being bullied in the restroom…”
Yan Xia suddenly looked up, her lips curving into a bright smile. “I never mentioned where I was splashed. How did you know it was in the restroom?”
At the end of the day, she was just a high schooler. No matter how deep her schemes were, she was too young to keep her composure.
This move this was a “Werewolf” self-exposure; she could be voted out of the game now.
The color instantly drained from Jiang He’s face. Her eyes bulged as she stared at Yan Xia, unable to find words for a long time.
Yan Xia pulled her phone out of her desk and flashed the screen at her. It showed a recording icon blinking.
Jiang He was aghast. “Are you threatening me?!”
“I’m not.” Yan Xia’s smile was gentle, showing no sign of intimidation, though a cunning light flickered in her beautiful eyes. “I’m just giving myself a little insurance.”
Jiang He’s lips trembled, but she said nothing.
A bored Zhong Quan turned around from the front seat.
Seeing the two of them staring at each other in a heavy, awkward silence, he couldn’t help but ask, “What are you two doing?!”
Jiang He ignored him and turned her head away with a stiff expression.
Yan Xia smiled. “Nothing.”
Zhong Quan didn’t think much of it. Seeing Yan Xia’s desk empty without a single book in sight, he instinctively remarked, “Have you given up on making the top ten?”
Yan Xia: “…I just finished reviewing.” Why did every single person say the same thing?
Seeing how certain she sounded, Zhong Quan thought to himself: For an ultimate slacker like Yan Xia, last-minute cramming really is useless.
He gave her a look of pity. “I understand. Just do your best.”
You don’t understand squat!
Yan Xia was speechless. “…Um, thank you.”
As 8:00 AM approached, the intercom system crackled to life, urging students to head to their respective examination rooms.
Jiang He left without a word.
Zhong Quan extended a hand toward Yan Xia and asked casually, “I did pretty well on the last weekly quiz. Do you want to rub some of my ‘luck’ off on you?”
Yan Xia shook her head. “No need.”
Zhong Quan didn’t insist. “Alright, then good luck on your own.”
Because the female lead had ranked at the bottom of the grade in the previous monthly exam, her seat for this exam was in the very last testing room which happened to be Class F.
Looking around, the room was mostly filled with the usual Class F crowd, everyone looking sluggish with faces full of numbness.
She picked up her bag to change seats, but a sudden thought struck her. She hurried to the restroom, pulled out her phone, and tapped Shang Wandong’s profile picture.
Sitting in Class A waiting for the exam to start, Shang Wandong felt a vibration in her desk. She opened WeChat.
“Yan Xia” nudged you.
Shang Wandong: “?”
Yan Xia replied instantly: “Top student, let me borrow some of your luck!! What bad intentions could a little kitty have?.jpg”
Shang Wandong: “Borrow it then.”
Yan Xia: “Mua! Cat acting spoiled and cuddling.jpg”
Shang Wandong didn’t understand the slang, but she was greatly shocked.
Shang Wandong: “Mail Delivery Agent?”
Yan Xia: “???”
Shang Wandong: “Isn’t MUA an acronym?”
Yan Xia: “…No, Sister, that’s the sound of a kiss! Are you a caveman?!”
This time, Yan Xia had to wait a moment for Shang Wandong’s reply.
She saw the other girl reply in a very matter-of-fact way: “Oh. Strictly speaking, Upper Cave Men only mastered man-made fire, polished tools, and drilling technology. They did not use smartphones. Your history grades are poor; you must remember this.”
Shang Wandong: “Also, why did you kiss me?”
Yan Xia was left speechless.
