- The Gentle, Sickly Beauty Is Won Over By The Loyal Big Shot
- Chapter 37 - Qi Ran’s Mental Illness is Getting Better
Qi Ran wanted to get out of bed, but Gu Han stopped him: “Baby, lie down for a little longer. I’ll just bring the sandwich over for you to eat. Ranran is still sick, getting out of bed to walk is very tiring.”
Gu Han got up and opened the door. He originally intended to thank Yu Shen first before bringing the food up to Qi Ran. He saw Yu Shen standing there with a tray containing two steaming sandwiches: “Did you and Qi Ran sleep well last night?”
“Yes,” Gu Han took the tray. “How about you?”
Yu Shen smiled: “It felt pretty much like being at home. It was quite good.”
Having finished the small talk, Yu Shen prepared to return to his room. Since it was a typhoon day, everyone was resting. Yu Shen had no reason to insist on working overtime, he planned to take a nap and then head to the gaming room in the evening to relax for a few days.
“Wait a moment,” Gu Han stopped Yu Shen as he was leaving, pointing at the dress shirt and trousers he was wearing. “Did you sleep in that yesterday?”
Yu Shen nodded: “Yeah.”
“My fault, my fault. I forgot to find you a pair of pajamas. Wait here.”
Gu Han took the tray into the bedroom and rummaged through the wardrobe, finding a brand-new, unopened set of dark red silk pajamas. He handed them to Yu Shen: “These are brand new, I’ve never worn them. Throw them in the washing machine and dry them, you can wear them tonight. It’s really my bad, sleeping in a dress shirt is so uncomfortable.”
Yu Shen took the clothes and nodded: “Thank you.”
“What time is it now?” Gu Han checked his watch. “Three-thirty. We’ll have hot pot at five. Yesterday Ranran wanted a chicken soup base, he just loves drinking soup. It was too late yesterday, so we’ll have it today. Do you want something spicy? I have a split pot, so we can have two different bases.”
“Sure, I like spicy food,” Yu Shen looked Gu Han up and down, raising an eyebrow. “Wait a minute, Gu Han, you know how to cook now? People in love really are all-rounders. Those muscle building, fat reducing meals you used to eat… even a puppy wouldn’t want to sniff them.”
“Qi Ran can’t eat those things, they taste terrible.” Whenever someone mentioned Qi Ran or alluded to this relationship, Gu Han felt especially proud and happy. “I’ve set a small goal: first, nourish Ranran so he gains some weight and improves his health. Of course, I have to put effort into the cooking.”
“That’s great,” Yu Shen patted Gu Han on the shoulder and said with a smile, “I wish you success.”
After this conversation, Yu Shen finally headed back to his room to wait for dinner. Before leaving, he reminded Gu Han: “If you want coffee, there’s exactly one cup’s worth left in the coffee machine in the kitchen downstairs.”
Gu Han turned back and gave an “OK” gesture.
“Baby, get up and eat your sandwich. I won’t start preparing the hot pot until five. Ranran needs to eat something to line his stomach.” Gu Han leaned down, lifted Qi Ran from the bed, and sniffed the air. “My Ranran is always sweet and fragrant. This sandwich must be the thing that smells a bit ‘stinky’ it probably has cheese in it. Does Ranran like cheese?”
Qi Ran nodded: “I like it, Hubby.”
Just as Gu Han was about to give him the food, Qi Ran suddenly hugged Gu Han’s waist and asked coquettishly, “Hubby, why can’t the ‘stinky’ one be me?”
“How is that possible?” Gu Han pulled Qi Ran down onto the bed, sniffing his neck, grabbing his hand to smell it, and even lifting his pajama top to carefully sniff his snow-white belly. As he sniffed, he could no longer restrain himself, his tongue darted out to lick and kiss Qi Ran’s delicate skin. “Wife is so fragrant and sweet. If there’s a bad smell in the room, I’d rather suspect something is wrong with my nose than think it’s my wife.”
“Hubby-baby, why are you so silly? But my hubby is fragrant too, I like it a lot.” Qi Ran lay on the bed, ruffling Gu Han’s hair. “Darling, you said you were going to cook hot pot for us. Do you really know how?”
“Wife, actually, I don’t know yet,” Gu Han admitted honestly and softly. “It’s okay, I learn things very quickly. I’ll start by learning the chicken soup base you like.”
Gu Han accompanied Qi Ran to brush his teeth and wash up. By the time they returned to the room, hugging and cuddling, the sandwiches had gone cold again. Gu Han and Qi Ran took the tray down to the kitchen to reheat them. Along the way, Gu Han made some milk for Qi Ran and poured coffee for himself. The two of them chatted while eating, and Gu Han took the time to look up how to make hot pot bases on a video platform.
As he ate, Qi Ran ended up sitting on Gu Han’s lap, leaning into his arms and feeding him pieces of the sandwich.
Gu Han took a bite and said while chewing, “Mmm, the sandwich Ranran bit is so fragrant and delicious. It even has my wife’s cute little tooth marks.”
Qi Ran acted like a child who wouldn’t eat properly, one moment wanting a hug, the next seeking a kiss, and then asking Gu Han to rub his belly. After the rub, Qi Ran stayed quiet for a moment before snatching Gu Han’s phone and hiding it so he couldn’t watch the videos.
Gu Han didn’t even try to get it back. After finishing his coffee, he held Qi Ran tightly on his lap and said softly, “Does Ranran baby not want me to look at the phone? Then I won’t. I’ll just play with my baby, okay?”
Qi Ran was being mischievous and did the opposite, as soon as Gu Han said he didn’t want the phone, Qi Ran gave it back to him.
“Little Ranran, use my phone to buy a few more clothes. They’ll be delivered once the typhoon passes.”
Gu Han pulled Qi Ran into the crook of his arm. “Wife, I just passed the bag with your new clothes and saw you bought a pair of cow-patterned socks. My Ranran’s little feet will look especially cute in those. Wife, I want to wash your socks personally, okay?”
Qi Ran tilted his head against Gu Han’s shoulder, his eyes wide, his thick lashes fluttering as he blinked. “Hubby, won’t that be too much trouble for you? You didn’t sleep well, you must be tired. I can wash them myself.”
“No,” Gu Han whined. “Washing my wife’s clothes is a very happy thing. I want to do it. Your socks are just too cute. Please, baby, let me wash them.”
“Alright then, Hubby can help me wash my socks.” Qi Ran fed Gu Han the largest piece of meat from his sandwich. “Hubby, eat more meat so you can be strong. Hehe, so you’ll have more strength for ‘shameful’ things later.”
Gu Han’s face flushed instantly. He couldn’t suppress the corners of his mouth and finally burst out laughing, holding Qi Ran in his arms for a long time.
Gu Han had lost count of which day had been the happiest since he started dating Qi Ran. At the very least, during this week of his thirty-five years of life, he had experienced a level of happiness and joy he hadn’t felt in the decades since he could remember.
Since he couldn’t remember which day was the best, it meant that every day with Qi Ran was the best.
Yu Shen, who had witnessed Gu Han’s entire display of acting spoiled from the corner of the stairs on the second floor, stood stunned for a full minute before coming to his senses.
The image and persona Gu Han had built up in Yu Shen’s mind over the years had almost completely shattered.
Yu Shen took a few steps back, thinking to himself: “People in love are too terrifying.”
But as he thought this, his gaze fell upon the gold ring on his own hand. His heart softened, and he immediately understood Gu Han.
If Zhuzhu were still here, lying in Yu Shen’s arms and acting spoiled just like Qi Ran was with Gu Han, Yu Shen might have been even more childish and silly than Gu Han was now.
Being in a great relationship really does make a mature person become very childish.
In the dining room, Qi Ran couldn’t resist Gu Han’s soft pleading and used his shopping account to pick out several more outfits. There were pink shirts identical to the one Gu Han wore last time, cream and khaki trousers, and black and brown Doc Martens. Gu Han had observed that Qi Ran had many pairs of boots at home and knew he liked them. He also picked out the kind of soft, loose sweaters he thought Qi Ran would look cutest in. Most importantly, he picked many pairs of socks, cow patterns, strawberry patterns, little kittens, and honey jars. After remembering Qi Ran’s sizes, Gu Han ordered a lot of clothes, essentially buying him enough for all four seasons in one go.
“Hubby, it’s so much,” Qi Ran said, looking at the shopping cart showing “149” items in the clothing category. “I can’t wear them all. Do I have to change my outfit twice a day?”
“You’ll wear them,” Gu Han said, already planning the future while hugging Qi Ran. “Picking out my wife’s socks, underwear, and sweaters is my job. I’ll personally help you get dressed.”
“Gu Puppy, I really can’t do anything with you,” Qi Ran looked at Gu Han and smiled dotingly, pinching Gu Han’s cheek. “Gu Baby, you can coordinate the outfits according to your own taste.”
After their simple meal, Gu Han went to the kitchen to get busy. Qi Ran’s separation anxiety had just flared up recently, so Gu Han didn’t dare relax for a second. He proactively moved a chair over so Qi Ran could sit wherever he liked.
Qi Ran’s separation anxiety was usually worse at night, it was manageable during the day. Even so, whenever he heard Gu Han say he was leaving for a bit to do something, Qi Ran would subconsciously feel sad and grab Gu Han’s arm, not wanting him to leave. Therefore, when Gu Han brought the chair over, Qi Ran was truly happy. He found a spot he liked where he could see Gu Han while leaning against the table to look at his phone.
Qi Ran was so happy to be understood by Gu Han. Those emotions that were considered “superfluous” or “melodramatic” by his parents were, in Gu Han’s eyes, like the pages of a precious book being turned and read carefully. Whether his moods were good or bad, and regardless of whether they were caused by Gu Han, Gu Han would take them to heart.
In a way, the simple act of Gu Han moving the chair and gently letting Qi Ran choose his favorite spot was an immediate form of salvation for Qi Ran.
Qi Ran seemed to have turned back into a child, returning to the very beginning before his childhood separation anxiety had formed. He felt a sense of security, if he knocked over milk, broke a vase, or accidentally fell, he wouldn’t be scolded. He didn’t need to stand there at a loss. With Gu Han, Qi Ran would always be forgiven and always be deeply loved.
The same was true for Gu Han. He had run fast enough to forget the gossip of the family members who held him back, smoothing over the trauma they had inflicted since childhood. He had traveled far and wide, starting a business while learning how to be a modest and gentle person. Now, he used his own method, an infinite, surging love, to save Qi Ran from the depths of his mental illness.
“Ranran is so good,” Gu Han said, taking out all the ingredients to defrost for the hot pot. He looked back at Qi Ran and saw that he wasn’t looking at his phone but was just sitting obediently in the chair watching him. Gu Han washed his hands and came over to coax him again. “It’s okay even if you aren’t ‘good.’ A naughty Ranran is also very cute. Ranran is truly my little angel, just sitting there, you are so cute and beautiful.”
“Is Hubby still worried about me?”
Qi Ran felt a little guilty. He hugged Gu Han’s waist and said softly, “Hubby, my health is really poor. I feel unwell almost every day. Do you really not hate me or find me annoying?”
