The General's Love Glitch - Chapter 42
“I need to think it over carefully,” Ruan Wei said.
Jun Jue sighed inwardly, it seemed her blood was losing its allure for Ruan Wei.
Meanwhile, Jiang Tang deliberately slowed her pace, eager to hear what reward Madam Wei would ask of the general. She didn’t want to miss this live romance tutorial unfolding right before her eyes.
Jiang Li, standing beside Jiang Tang, rolled her eyes. “Second Sister, let’s go.”
Jiang Tang waved her off. “Wait a bit. I’ll leave once Madam Wei answers.”
How long would that take? This was no time for lovestruck foolishness.
So, Jiang Li suddenly shouted toward Jun Jue and Ruan Wei, “General, there are some instruments on the auxiliary cabin of the Junchen. My sister and I will go check if we can replicate what Madam Wei saw with her naked eye using those devices.”
Jun Jue and Ruan Wei both turned around. Jun Jue nodded. “Go ahead.”
Reluctantly, Jiang Tang had no choice but to leave.
“General, should we go take a look too?” Ruan Wei asked, watching Jiang Tang and Jiang Li walk away.
“I’ll go. Weiwei, you should catch up with your friends and think about what reward you’d like.”
“Alright.”
…
Jun Jue caught up with Jiang Tang and Jiang Li, and together they headed to the auxiliary cabin of the Junchen. As soon as they entered, Jiang Lan reported that the deployment orders had already been issued.
Jun Jue instructed, “Jiang Lan, you’ll take the auxiliary cabin back later. Once the Junchen is fully assembled, bring it directly here.”
“Yes, ma’am!”
The instruments in the auxiliary cabin weren’t precise enough to fully replicate the blue light Ruan Wei had seen. Jun Jue then ordered Jiang Lan to immediately lead the soldiers in the auxiliary cabin to rendezvous with the main body of the Junchen in space. Once docked, they would return together.
On Planet GR03, Jun Jue only kept Jiang Tang and Jiang Li behind.
On their way back to the star lord’s residence, Jiang Tang asked uneasily, “General, what if the Chief Executive arrives with the Aimin before the Junchen returns to support us?”
“The Chief Executive will also need time to mobilize the Aimin. If they do arrive first, we’ll have to hold our ground defensively.”
“Can’t we fight back directly?” Jiang Li asked.
“We need the Chief Executive to strike first,” Jun Jue said.
“That’s so infuriating! We have to let the Chief Executive attack first when they’re practically at our doorstep?” Jiang Tang fumed.
“Doorstep?” Jiang Li looked puzzled.
“Isn’t Madam Wei’s homeland the general’s home now?” Jiang Tang said.
Homeland.
Hearing this, Jun Jue glanced down at the fertile, soft soil beneath her feet, and an idea suddenly took root in her mind.
…
Two hours later, Jun Jue, accompanied by Jiang Tang and Jiang Li, knocked on the doors of nearly a dozen households and collected a generous amount of food and plant seeds.
Jiang Tang carried a bag of fertilizer in each hand, baffled. “General, are we going farming now?”
Jun Jue’s lips curled slightly, but she didn’t answer.
“This is where the Junchen’s auxiliary cabin was hovering earlier,” Jiang Li recognized.
“Mm.” Jun Jue began scattering flower seeds according to the instructions given by the GR03 residents. “From now on, we’ll plant a ring of these along the planet’s edge.”
“This is so weird,” Jiang Tang muttered under her breath as she sowed the seeds. It was the first time she’d received such an absurd request from the general. Their missions had always been about defending the Federation, yet here they were, planting flowers on GR03.
“Second Sister, the general must have her reasons. I trust her,” Jiang Li said.
“I believe so too,” Jiang Tang said. “But since the general didn’t explain the reason to us, I can’t help feeling curious.”
“She’ll definitely tell us when the time is right.”
At that moment, they had no idea that quietly scattering flower seeds was actually sowing hope for this planet.
…
Ruan Wei stood on the rooftop of the planet owner’s residence with Tao Xinran and Sun Qian, chatting while watching the sunset. Sun Qian brought up how she had seen Jiang Tang accidentally touch Tao Xinran’s gland.
Ruan Wei blinked in surprise. “Really?”
Tao Xinran nodded shyly. “I think it was just an accident.”
“Jiang Tang isn’t the most attentive person. If she had noticed, she would’ve apologized,” Ruan Wei reassured her.
“Sister Tao, do you like Jiang Tang?” Ruan Wei leaned against the ornate golden railing as she asked.
“I think…” Tao Xinran lowered her head. “I think I might have a little crush on her.”
“I’ll help you, Sister Tao,” Ruan Wei said. “The general will too.”
“I don’t want to force anything when it comes to feelings,” Tao Xinran replied. “I don’t even know if Jiang Tang would mind that I’m a vampire.”
“She wouldn’t,” Ruan Wei said. “Back when I was exposed as a vampire in the Federation, Jiang Tang even asked where she could find another vampire, said she wanted to adopt one.”
“That was probably just a joke,” Tao Xinran laughed awkwardly.
“Sister Tao, I can’t say for sure that Jiang Tang likes you, but at the very least, she has some interest in you,” Sun Qian chimed in, having observed more quietly.
“I think so too,” Ruan Wei agreed.
Tao Xinran suddenly felt breathless, awkwardly turning her face away before pointing into the distance. “Look over there, the sunset is so beautiful.”
Ruan Wei followed her gaze. The orange-red twilight churned across the horizon, and something seemed to be growing on the brown earth where it met the sky.
Squinting, Ruan Wei asked, “Are those flowers?”
“I think so,” Tao Xinran replied, shielding her eyes as she peered into the distance.
“I see people too,” Sun Qian added.
Ruan Wei blinked a few times before finally making them out. “It’s the general and the others.”
A gentle breeze brushed against her face as Ruan Wei gripped the railing, an impulsive urge to leap down surging within her. The phantom sensation of wings that hadn’t yet sprouted from her back grew even stronger.
“I really want to just fly over to the general right now,” Ruan Wei said, a hint of longing in her voice.
“Weiwei, if I remember correctly, your wings haven’t grown yet,” Tao Xinran pointed out. Then, with a graceful motion, a pair of white wings unfurled from her back. Sun Qian quickly followed suit, releasing her own dark wings. Both had mastered flight before being captured, though they hadn’t flown in ten years, they were bound to be rusty.
Ruan Wei gazed enviously at Tao Xinran’s white wings and Sun Qian’s black ones, reaching back to touch her own shoulders, only to find nothing there.
“Weiweii, do you want to try triggering your flight ability? Qianqian and I can help, one above and one below?”
“Yes!” Ruan Wei was desperate to experience flying. She had always felt that a vampire who couldn’t fly wasn’t a proper one.
As the eldest of the three, Tao Xinran took off first. With a hand on the railing, she vaulted over effortlessly, her pristine wings spreading wide in the air. Though a bit unsteady, she landed smoothly.
Next was Sun Qian, who hesitated slightly before jumping. Once over the railing, she flapped her wings frantically, terrified of plummeting.
“Sister Sun, you’ve got this! You’re doing great!” Ruan Wei’s encouragement snapped Sun Qian out of her panic, filling her with confidence.
“Weiwei, it’s your turn now. Don’t be afraid. If you can’t fly, Sister Tao and I will catch you,” Sun Qian, hovering in mid-air, encouraged her.
“Mhm!”
Though Ruan Wei lacked confidence, her longing for flight spurred her to try eagerly.
However, the moment she leaped over the railing, before she could even wave her arms, her body plummeted straight down. Tao Xinran below caught her steadily.
“Again.” Unfazed, Ruan Wei attempted over a dozen more times, each ending in a straight drop without exception.
On the last fall, Ruan Wei felt the arms holding her grow warm and familiar, and she caught the scent of flowers in the air.
“General, you’re back?”
“Mhm.”
“Put me down. I’ll try again,” Ruan Wei panted, her body trembling from exhaustion.
“Try again tomorrow.”
“Alright. General, put me down first.”
Jun Jue didn’t let go. Instead, she carried Ruan Wei upstairs, leaving Tao Xinran and Sun Qian watching enviously.
The general truly treats Weiwei so well!
“Sister Tao, aren’t you going to find Jiang Tang over there?” Sun Qian asked.
“Then, are you going to find Jiang Li?” Tao Xinran countered.
Sun Qian said, “I’ll go with you.”
…
“What kind of flower is this?” Ruan Wei asked Jun Jue once they were back in the room.
“Blue spider lilies.”
“Blue ones? Are there other colors?” Ruan Wei bit her lip lightly and brushed her fingers against the petals. “So beautiful.”
Jun Jue replied, “There are red ones too. They were just planted this afternoon. The soil on GR03 is special, so they grow quickly.”
“Why did the general suddenly think of planting flowers?”
As she asked, Ruan Wei found a vase in the room, filled it with water, and carefully arranged the beautiful spider lilies inside.
Jun Jue didn’t answer directly. Instead, she took Ruan Wei’s hand and led her to the balcony to see.
The sky was awash with an orange-red sunset, and across the brown soil, the newly planted spider lilies flourished vibrantly.
“It would be even better if we planted rice and wheat too,” Ruan Wei murmured. Food was scarce on GR03, and most of the planet’s residents were listless, rarely venturing outside, numbed by heavy taxation.
Even after Jun Jue arrived and distributed gold taken from the planet’s ruler, they still lacked the courage to start anew, as if fearing the gold might be taken back.
Labor required long cycles, and no one was willing to toil without guaranteed rewards. Was the gold truly theirs to keep? How much of the harvest would they even be allowed to retain?
Ruan Wei leaned against the balcony railing, gazing into the distance, while Jun Jue wrapped her arms around her waist from behind.
Closing her eyes, Ruan Wei let the breeze caress her face, instinctively spreading her arms. Jun Jue held her steady, making her feel as if she were swaying in the wind.
Jun Jue gripped Ruan Wei’s waist and turned her around, kissing her before she could open her eyes.
Startled, Ruan Wei opened her eyes in a daze. In her fluster, she tasted Jun Jue’s blood and couldn’t tell if her little fangs had emerged and nicked her again.
As their lips and tongues moved together, Jun Jue noticed the faint sting on her tongue fade, Ruan Wei hadn’t drunk her blood but had healed her instead.
Only after healing did she fully respond to the kiss.
Jun Jue froze for a few seconds before deepening the kiss, cradling the back of Ruan Wei’s head.
Ruan Wei didn’t understand why her body suddenly went limp, melting like water. Jun Jue gathered her up and held her close.
At night when it was time to sleep, Jun Jue kissed Ruan Wei’s cheek and told her to rest first while she went to the next room. The current situation was tense. Although she trusted Jiang Lan and had no doubts about her capabilities, the Junchen was of utmost importance, and she had to keep an eye on it.
…
Ruan Wei slept alone in the room, feeling somewhat unaccustomed to Jun Jue’s absence.
Her body also felt off, her temperature was unusually high.
Ruan Wei touched her forehead and was alarmed by the heat. She found a thermometer in the room and checked: 38°C.
Even for a human, this temperature would indicate illness, let alone for a vampire whose body temperature was naturally lower than a human’s.
What was worse, she now desperately craved closeness with Jun Jue.
No, Jun Jue was handling important matters. She couldn’t disturb her.
Ruan Wei got up to change the water for the blue spider lilies. The star lord truly loved gold, even the vase was made of it.
She tried every method she could think of to distract herself, but nothing worked. Her legs moved on their own, carrying her off the bed and straight to the next room.
Jun Jue, in the adjacent room, also sensed something unusual. She caught an incredibly sweet and ripe peach fragrance, so vivid she could almost imagine biting into the juicy fruit emitting that scent.
Strange.
She never ate peaches, yet the aroma stirred something in her now, making her thirsty.
Where was this scent coming from? Winter wasn’t over yet, and it wasn’t peach season. Though some might be stored frozen, their fragrance was usually faint, nothing as rich and sweet as this.
Weiwei.
Jun Jue suddenly thought of Ruan Wei. The ripe peach scent was uncannily like the matured pheromones of an omega in heat.
Jun Jue stood up, about to check on Ruan Wei, when the door handle turned and Ruan Wei stepped in.
Jun Jue had never seen Ruan Wei like this before.
Her robe was slightly disheveled, the collar open, revealing fair, plump skin tinged with a delicate flush beneath her collarbones. Her lips were full and pink, and she looked like a perfectly ripe, premium peach.
Jun Jue took a deep breath. Ruan Wei closed the door and rushed into her arms.
“General, I feel terrible. Please help me.”
