The General's Love Glitch - Chapter 13
The question caught Jun Jue off guard.
She hesitated for a long time without answering, while Ruan Wei remained standing there, waiting.
“Go ahead,” Jun Jue said, avoiding a direct response. Her mind was inexplicably unsettled.
Ruan Wei continued to gaze at her, even widening those beautiful eyes slightly. Only when Jun Jue raised her hand and gestured for her to leave did Ruan Wei finally walk away.
After Ruan Wei left, Jun Jue lay down on the bed, covering her eyes with her hand.
…
“The General is so strange,” Ruan Wei murmured softly as she circled the mechanical dining table.
Still, the General hadn’t explicitly forbidden her from getting on the bed, so perhaps the General didn’t count as “someone else.”
Ruan Wei rubbed her hands together, recalling how she had excitedly grabbed Jun Jue’s arm, a brief moment of closeness.
…
Once rested, Jun Jue picked up the blue file and prepared to head back to the main cabin. She noticed Ruan Wei still pacing around the dining table.
Pausing, she said, “The starship will arrive in the Federation tonight.”
Ruan Wei stopped in her tracks and looked at her intently, her bright eyes flickering with unease.
“Once we reach the Federation… will I no longer be able to stay with you?”
Her expression and tone gave Jun Jue the illusion that she was someone incredibly important to Ruan Wei.
“You want to keep following me?” Jun Jue asked.
Ruan Wei nodded emphatically. Jun Jue was the only person she knew, and being with her felt the safest.
“Fine.” Jun Jue waved the blue file in her hand. “Once we arrive, you’ll come with me to register your information.”
Ruan Wei nodded obediently. “Okay.”
After clarifying, Jun Jue turned to leave for the main cabin.
Even as she walked out of the lounge and closed the door behind her, she could still feel Ruan Wei’s gaze clinging to her.
Once the door shut, Ruan Wei exhaled in relief and immediately rushed into the bathroom. In the mirror, her eyes were indeed tinged with red veins again, and her small fangs were threatening to emerge. She pressed them down with her tongue.
She desperately wanted blood.
Even though she was full, the craving persisted.
Unable to hold back any longer, Ruan Wei checked the fridge in the lounge, only drinks inside. She decided to venture out for food.
Pulling the hood of her military-green cloak over her head to conceal most of her face, she opened the door, only to come face-to-face with a soldier.
Her bloodshot eyes locked onto him, fixating on the pulsing veins beneath his tanned skin.
“Madam General, I was just following orders-”
Before the soldier could finish, Ruan Wei sank her teeth into his wrist. The man froze in shock.
Before he could react, Ruan Wei suddenly crouched down.
“Ugh-” She retched violently without warning.
The soldier, who hadn’t even had time to panic when bitten, was now thoroughly alarmed by her reaction. He failed to notice the two small puncture wounds on his wrist healing rapidly.
“Madam General, I—I was just bringing you digestive tablets.”
He reached out to pat her back but quickly withdrew his hand, mindful of her status.
Ruan Wei slumped weakly onto the floor.
The young soldier asked nervously, “Are you… alright?”
Ruan Wei nodded miserably. She hadn’t expected the soldier’s blood to taste so revolting. The thought alone made her gag again.
The soldier stood by, flustered and unsure what to do. After a moment, he decided to report the situation up the chain of command to contact General Jun Jue.
Jun Jue, monitoring from the main cabin, saw what was happening and rushed back immediately.
The soldier wisely stepped aside to give her space, anxiously explaining the situation.
Jun Jue had witnessed the entire incident in the main cabin and knew the soldier hadn’t done anything wrong. She interrupted him, saying, “Go fetch the medic.”
Jun Jue picked up the exhausted Ruan Wei, who instinctively nestled deeper into her embrace.
“General, why did you come back?”
“Forgot something.”
“Oh.” Ruan Wei’s voice trailed off, fading into silence. Unable to resist, her hand crept upward and pressed against Jun Jue’s neck.
The strong, pulsating carotid artery was an undeniable temptation to her.
She remembered how delicious Jun Jue’s blood had tasted.
After that one time, everyone else’s blood repelled her on instinct, hence her extreme reaction earlier.
Jun Jue felt the cool touch of a hand against her neck but didn’t immediately ask Ruan Wei to remove it this time. Instead, she asked, “Why did you bite him?”
Ruan Wei stayed silent.
“Were you afraid he might hurt you?” Jun Jue thought of Ruan Wei’s past experiences and naturally assumed this was the reason.
Because I wanted to drink his blood, Ruan Wei thought to herself, though she didn’t dare say it aloud. Admitting that would likely earn her an immediate execution.
This world didn’t accept vampires, she knew that. Her father had died because of it.
“Yes,” Ruan Wei lied to keep hiding her true nature. “That person just now looked a lot like the bad man who locked me up.”
Jun Jue paused mid-step. They had arrived at Ruan Wei’s tent, but after a half-second hesitation, she bypassed it and carried Ruan Wei to her own bed instead.
“You can take off your hood. There’s no one else here. The medic will arrive soon.”
Ruan Wei tugged the hood even lower with both hands, nearly covering her entire face, leaving only her lips and chin exposed. Agitated, she protested, “I’m fine. I don’t need a doctor.”
Seeing her strong reaction, Jun Jue didn’t push further. If wearing the hood made her feel safer, then so be it.
The medic arrived quickly. Jun Jue personally opened the door, but the medic hesitated, too intimidated to step inside.
“Come in,” Jun Jue said, and only then did the medic cross the threshold.
When Jun Jue led the medic to the bedside, Ruan Wei had already curled into a ball, completely cocooned in her military-green cloak.
The medic glanced helplessly at Jun Jue, the scene reminding her of a child throwing a tantrum to avoid vaccinations.
“No injections, General’s wife. All you need to do is extend one hand so I can check your pulse,” the medic said.
In this new stellar era, medical technology had advanced tremendously, yet the mysterious and profound wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine had also been preserved.
Ruan Wei still didn’t move.
Jun Jue said, “Listen to the doctor.”
Only then did Ruan Wei hesitantly extend a hand. Both Jun Jue and the medic were startled, her skin was so pale it seemed almost bloodless.
The medic held Ruan Wei’s wrist, carefully assessing her pulse for a few seconds before turning to Jun Jue. “General, your wife is suffering from severe blood and qi deficiency, compounded by excessive physical depletion.”
Ruan Wei shrank back in fear upon hearing this, retracting her hand.
Jun Jue asked, “What’s the treatment, Doctor?”
“Replenishing blood and qi.”
“How?”
“I’ll prescribe a remedy. Just follow the instructions.”
..
After the medic left, Jun Jue reached to lift Ruan Wei’s hood, only for her hand to be suddenly seized. The next moment, she felt a sharp bite.
Her skin was pierced, but she remained frozen in place.
Had she frightened Ruan Wei too?
Or was Ruan Wei angry because she’d brought the medic?
The bite wasn’t too hard, the slight pain was negligible to Jun Jue.
She let Ruan Wei vent, and in that moment, Ruan Wei took the opportunity to drink a little blood.
Ruan Wei’s inner turmoil gradually subsided.
Indeed, Jun Jue’s blood was the most delicious.
She wasn’t a greedy vampire, so once she felt satisfied, she let go. Before pulling away, she gave a gentle lick, vampire saliva also had some healing properties, more than enough for minor wounds like this.
Jun Jue withdrew her hand, though her heart was anything but calm. A tingling sensation spread from her fingertips.
…
