The Frenzied Savior - Chapter 43
Fu Qingya’s sudden approach brought him so close to Luo Mingyuan that their breaths almost mingled. For a split second, Luo Mingyuan lost his focus before immediately snapping back to high alert.
He held his breath, frozen in place.
Fu Qingya’s gaze remained fixed on the young man across from them. He sensed a profound discordance emanating from the boy, for a fleeting moment, he even perceived a sense of danger.
This sparked a memory of the star-calendar archives, specifically the records of how the beings from the A48 Galaxy disguised themselves as humans to deliberately incite wars.
There were still eight months left before the massive invasion of Earth by the A48 Galaxy occurred in his previous life. Despite his frantic pace over the last two months, Fu Qingya had yet to find the right materials to develop a bio-electric field detection system compatible with Earth’s resources.
While Fu Qingya had his suspicions, he lacked an effective way to prove his hypothesis.
As the look of impatience on the young man’s face intensified, the sense of crisis Fu Qingya felt grew heavier.
“Luo Mingyuan,” Fu Qingya suddenly whispered into Luo Mingyuan’s ear.
Luo Mingyuan’s heart skipped a beat, a spark of emotion he didn’t even recognize flickering in his eyes. However, as Fu Qingya continued to speak, Luo Mingyuan’s expression turned solemn.
***
“You were just in the emergency room because of an acute asthma attack and a failure to take your medication on time. Even though you’ve been discharged from the ER, you still need to stay for observation.”
“Running around without notifying the doctors or nurses is extremely dangerous! Besides, you have no one here to look after you!”
The nurse on her rounds had been scared half to death by the boy’s reckless behavior and was currently lecturing him sternly.
The young man stood there with an impatient expression, his hands clenched tightly behind his back, faintly trembling.
“Excuse me, Nurse, could I bother you for a moment to ask a few questions?”
Luo Mingyuan suddenly appeared behind the two of them, his tone sincere. “Of course, if you’re busy, I can come back later.”
Luo Mingyuan glanced at the boy standing in front of the nurse. He looked very young, roughly the same age as Fu Qingya, and was dressed in hospital pajamas. His face was pale, but his lips were unusually red, and his somewhat heavy breathing made him look quite uncomfortable.
“I understand. You go ahead with your work,” the boy said, cutting in before the nurse could speak. He spared a glance at Luo Mingyuan before turning around and entering the ward directly opposite Fu Qingya’s.
This floor contained the hospital’s special care units, reserved for either the critically ill or the wealthy and influential. It was unclear which category this boy fell into or what was so special about him that Fu Qingya would specifically ask Luo Mingyuan to intervene in their conversation.
The nurse sighed, comforting herself with the thought that she would just have to keep a closer eye on this area. She then began chatting with Luo Mingyuan.
Ten minutes later, after listening to a lengthy explanation on how to care for patients, Luo Mingyuan returned to the ward.
“His bone structure, skin texture, growth patterns, and the calluses on his hands all tell me that the boy is just an ordinary high school student. What about him warrants your attention?”
Fu Qingya covered his eyes with his hand, his voice sounding somewhat muffled. “He doesn’t seem human.”
“If he’s not human, then what is he? His appearance, flesh and blood, and even his heart rate are identical to a human’s. The only thing is his breathing is faster than normal, but that’s likely due to the asthma.”
Luo Mingyuan truly couldn’t understand Fu Qingya this time. Within the scope of his known knowledge, mechanical life forms that looked exactly like humans only existed in fiction, they certainly couldn’t exist in reality.
The humanoid mechanical life forms of the A48 Galaxy were far beyond what humanity could fathom. Very few people would believe that on an Earth where the technology tree was still stuck at the level of steel-and-alloy robots, alien invaders capable of perfectly mimicking humans would appear.
This lack of belief was exactly why the government of Country A failed to intervene in time when the first signs of the tragedy emerged, leading to thousands being stabbed by their own “loved ones” in broad daylight, causing the foundations of human trust to crumble.
Regardless of the reason, Fu Qingya had to take this seriously. More importantly, he trusted his instincts.
“The human eye can be deceived,” Fu Qingya said. He rested his left fingers on the back of his right hand. “Stretch out your hand.”
Luo Mingyuan was puzzled but complied.
“Collect arterial blood, issue analysis report,” Fu Qingya commanded.
As his fingers rested on the radial side of Luo Mingyuan’s wrist, the skin on Fu Qingya’s slender fingertips suddenly bulged. A mechanical needle, no larger than a fine hair, emerged.
The mechanical needle not only adjusted its own angle to precisely pierce Luo Mingyuan’s artery, but it was also so steady and swift that there was almost no pain. It even secreted a special fluid to trigger rapid clotting.
Within a single breath, the needle withdrew, carrying Luo Mingyuan’s arterial blood back into the skin of Fu Qingya’s fingertip.
Fu Qingya had used this device before when he was developing the neutralizing reagent.
“Actually, there’s something I’ve been curious about,” Luo Mingyuan said, his eyes scanning Fu Qingya’s elegant hands.
Fu Qingya was busy letting his AI system, Xiao Jin, analyze the normal human genetic data to create a crude version of an alien detection device. He looked up at Luo Mingyuan. “Go on.”
“I’ve seen more than one piece of high-tech gear on you now. If you don’t mind me asking, just how many things have you installed in yourself?”
“Stuffing machinery into your body, that counts as biological modification, right? Doesn’t it… hurt?”
Luo Mingyuan spoke with uncharacteristic caution, afraid of offending Fu Qingya. After all, these were things Fu Qingya had developed himself. Aside from the older models he had traded to the state, the rest were kept well-hidden.
He regretted the question as soon as it left his mouth. “Never mind, don’t answer that. My brain just went a bit fuzzy for a second.”
“There’s nothing I can’t tell you,” Fu Qingya replied. “In fact, I need your help to find some materials to repair them.”
Fu Qingya tapped his wrist. As a ripple distorted the air, a golden mechanical watch appeared on his wrist.
“You brought metal equipment into the operating room?” Luo Mingyuan asked reflexively. He then realized the device must be able to cloak its properties and wouldn’t interfere with the hospital equipment, which was why Fu Qingya felt safe bringing it in.
Fu Qingya: “…”
“It perfectly synchronizes with my biological magnetic field. It’s essentially a part of my body.”
So, it really didn’t interfere with any instruments. He wished Luo Mingyuan would stop looking at him with that strange expression.
Beep, beep, beep—
“Defense equipment disengaging”
Fu Qingya unbuttoned his shirt, revealing a lean, firm chest. As he did, a layer of blue-black mechanical armor gradually materialized over his pale skin.
Clang.
A scalpel manifested near Fu Qingya’s abdomen and, without him even touching it, fell vertically, landing against the armor on his thigh.
Click.
Fu Qingya pinched his earlobe.
