The Frenzied Savior - Chapter 30
Luo Mingyuan served as the captain of the Special Cases Division and a consultant for the Forensic Department at the Kyoto Police Headquarters.
Originally, the bizarre suicide cases hadn’t been sent to the Special Cases Division, let alone land on the desk of a captain as busy as Luo Mingyuan, who constantly had his hands in various departments.
Word had it that these cases were initially treated as open-and-shut suicides. The police had already closed the first file, but the victim’s parents refused to believe their cheerful, optimistic son would ever take his own life. They pulled every string available to force a reinvestigation.
As more cases cropped up, students who had no history of depression or suicidal tendencies began ending their lives one after another. The original rulings were overturned, and the “suicides” were reclassified as bizarre homicides.
The police had investigated for a long time without finding a single lead, and even the forensic doctors couldn’t find a single flaw in the victims’ bodies.
Under pressure from all sides, Luo Mingyuan took over the case. He began performing his own autopsies while simultaneously investigating the eerie circumstances surrounding the deaths.
By a stroke of luck, he had just arrived at the local station to dig through the files when he heard that an identical “suicide” had occurred in Class 1 of the third year at the First High School.
He didn’t waste a second getting involved, and through that, he unexpectedly learned about Fu Qingya.
When he heard that Fu Qingya had gone to find the doctor who saved the victim, Luo Mingyuan headed straight for the office. He arrived just in time to catch the tail end of Fu Qingya’s conversation.
As the old doctor was about to turn Fu Qingya down, Luo Mingyuan knocked and entered.
Interrupted, the old doctor looked at Fu Qingya with a look of pure astonishment.
Good grief, he thought. This kid with the savage first-aid skills actually knows people in the police force?
He began to wonder if Fu Qingya held some kind of hidden, classified identity. Having lived through a certain “special period” in history, the old doctor’s imagination started to run wild as he looked at the young man with deepening intrigue.
He glanced at Fu Qingya a few more times before turning to the handsome young man in the crisp police uniform standing at the door.
“I will do my best to cooperate with any police requirements. Officer, what do you need me to do?”
The old doctor now viewed Fu Qingya as someone associated with the police. Seeing the obvious familiarity between the two men, he regained his usual kind, grandfatherly smile.
“If the police are involved, I can help this Student Fu with the request he just made.”
With the police backing him, his actions wouldn’t be considered a violation of protocol, and he wouldn’t have to worry about questioning from his superiors.
Luo Mingyuan looked at Fu Qingya, only to find the young man staring back at him with burning intensity, as if he had just realized something.
“Does your forensic department have specialized equipment for full-body diagnostic scans?”
The more Fu Qingya thought about it, the brighter his eyes became. Rather than dealing with the restrictions and red tape of a hospital while examining Li Xiaowen, it would be much better to go to the forensic lab where he could poke and prod without hesitation.
After all, in the forensic department, even if a patient was reduced to ash, the staff would practically lick the urn just to make sure they didn’t miss a single clue.
With the help of the forensic lab, he was certain he could find a lead. He had to figure out what kind of agent the culprit was using so he could formulate an antidote and put an end to these helpless “suicides.”
Luo Mingyuan met Fu Qingya’s sparkling gaze and remained silent for a moment.
He isn’t actually planning to take a living person to the forensic morgue for an exam, is he?
The only “patients” who got examined there were dead ones! Even if Fu Qingya was technically the one who saved the latest victim, they couldn’t exactly ask a survivor to go to a morgue for a check-up.
After a brief silence, Luo Mingyuan turned to the old doctor. “Please cooperate with the police and give Li Xiaowen a full-scale examination. We would like Mr. Fu to participate in these tests under the guise of an intern.”
Based on Luo Mingyuan’s analysis, Fu Qingya clearly possessed information they didn’t, and this information was likely the key to finding a breakthrough. Since Fu Qingya had a plan, Luo Mingyuan would do everything in his power to support him until they found a way to solve this “bizarre suicide case.”
The old doctor had been startled by Fu Qingya’s radical idea moments ago, so he was quick to agree to the compromise. “Fine, I’ll go report to the hospital director immediately. Only he can authorize adding extra personnel to an examination.”
“With his word, everything will go much smoother.”
Without waiting for Fu Qingya’s input, the old doctor bolted out of the office.
That kid was truly something else. He was brilliant, sure, but he clearly lacked any sense of social norms. To find the truth, he actually wanted to examine a living person in a police lab surrounded by corpses. Did he want the girl’s parents to drown him in spit?
The doctor couldn’t afford to get caught in that mess. To prevent such a scenario, he hurried to get the paperwork and the authorization for Fu Qingya’s participation sorted out.
Under the authority of the documents provided by Luo Mingyuan, the unconscious Li Xiaowen underwent a battery of tests.
Finally, after several rounds of examinations, they entered the blood work lab. Utilizing an epoch-making intelligent detection system, Fu Qingya observed the samples closely and finally discovered abnormal cellular bodies in Li Xiaowen’s blood.
They were spiral-shaped and dark in color, possessing extreme levels of infectivity and mutability. They hid themselves within normal cells, using minute changes to blend in while contaminating healthy tissue at a rate of one cubic millimeter per second.
About half an hour later, Fu Qingya walked out of the lab holding a vial of blood.
Knowing that Fu Qingya had found what he was looking for, Luo Mingyuan stepped forward.
“Did you find something, Mr. Fu?” Luo Mingyuan asked clearly, eyeing the vial.
The old doctor, following behind him, was equally curious. Both medical doctors and forensic experts had checked the victims multiple times and found nothing out of the ordinary. How was Fu Qingya going to prove these people were “murdered”?
Fu Qingya didn’t say a word. He frowned, staring intently at the blood he had specifically isolated. Then, he unscrewed the cap and extended his index finger.
Click, whirr—
A slender, sharp mechanical needle suddenly emerged from his pale, elegant fingertip. The needle pivoted for a moment, lengthened, and plunged directly into the blood sample.
