The Frenzied Savior - Chapter 24
To Fu Qingya, his parents were the most incompetent people imaginable. They lived reckless, hedonistic lives and naturally resented Fu Qingya, seeing him as nothing more than a symbol of restraint.
They lacked even a shred of parental instinct. They never took part in his life, instead tossing him aside to be raised by his uncle and the nannies in the family estate. Whether it was a parent-teacher conference at school or a stay in the hospital, they never showed up, not even once.
Throughout Fu Qingya’s long and difficult upbringing, their presence was so faint it was less significant than a single line of code in a research lab.
Fu Qingya was essentially raised by his uncle, who practically had to drag him through childhood. As the head of the Fu family, his uncle was not only busy maintaining the family’s prestige but also had his own children to raise. Even though his uncle tried to look after him out of a sense of duty and affection, Fu Qingya’s early years were still defined by isolation and hardship.
When Fu Qingya was three, his regular nanny had to resign due to a family emergency. His irresponsible parents simply picked a replacement from an agency at random. She turned out to be a greedy woman with absolutely no moral compass.
Seeing that his parents never visited, she began to treat the house as her own. She squandered the money and luxury goods intended for Fu Qingya and mistreated the boy, frequently locking him in a dark room and withholding food. Left alone for long periods, Fu Qingya—who already lacked much emotional expression—withdrew even further into himself.
If his uncle hadn’t taken a break from his grueling schedule to check on him and caught the woman in the act, there’s no telling how much longer Fu Qingya would have suffered.
After that incident, his uncle took him away and placed him in the care of the family’s most loyal and trusted butler, while also asking his own wife to keep a close eye on him. His aunt grew very fond of the quiet, brilliant child. Though he was somewhat withdrawn, he was deeply considerate and protective, often acting like a little adult to look after her in return. Her heart softened whenever he did, finding his maturity both amusing and touching.
Fu Qingya was such a remarkable child that even his aunt, who was known for being strict and traditional, considered adopting him. However, Fu Qingya wasn’t an orphan; he was just a child abandoned in a villa by two flighty parents who couldn’t be bothered with him. Because of this, they couldn’t legally adopt him and could only care for him as his aunt and uncle.
This arrangement lasted for over a decade. It wasn’t until Fu Qingya turned eighteen and became legally independent that he finally moved out of his uncle’s house.
To him, having parents made no difference at all. In fact, their existence had actually hindered his life. Because of them, his uncle and aunt always felt they had to maintain a certain distance, never daring to show him unrestrained affection in public for fear of offending his biological parents.
Yet, despite their years of caution, those two individuals acted as if Fu Qingya didn’t exist. They never cared where he was or how he was doing, only sending money.
Gradually, his uncle began to raise him as his own son. The parent-teacher conferences that had been empty for so many years were finally attended by someone who cared. But that person wasn’t his father or mother; it was the uncle and aunt who, despite the slight gap in blood relation, treated him like their own flesh and blood.
Consequently, in Fu Qingya’s heart, his real parents were the couple living in the old Fu family estate, not the two people standing before him.
They hadn’t cared for him when he was a child, yet now that they were both having affairs and found new “loves,” they suddenly wanted to involve him in their mess. Fu Qingya didn’t understand it, nor did he want to.
“Whether I exist or not makes no difference to you. There’s no need to involve me in your marriage or your divorce.”
He had zero interest in their assets. The bank card they had set up ten years ago for his “upkeep” had long since been left untouched by both his uncle and him. Fu Qingya hadn’t spent a cent of their money in over a decade, and he couldn’t care less about the inheritance they kept mentioning.
The handsome middle-aged man frowned. “What kind of talk is that? You’re our son! Of course we have to include you when we divorce!”
What did he mean, it made no difference if he existed? When a couple divorced, besides the division of property, there was the matter of custody. Giving Fu Qingya the choice of who to live with was already their way of compromising with his stubborn personality, yet here he was, saying such irritating things!
The man was deeply displeased. His gaze shifted from calculating satisfaction to blatant disgust and anger.
The cold-faced woman’s expression grew even frostier. “Are you resentful because we left you to your own devices?”
Fu Qingya looked at the couple with an indifferent gaze. “Where there are no expectations, there is no hate. I don’t resent you, and I’m not speaking out of spite. I’m simply stating the truth.”
“To the both of you, I represent a past of restraint and a lack of freedom.”
“Since you’ve both reached an understanding to divorce and pursue new romances and new marriages, you shouldn’t drag me along with you.”
“I grew up while you weren’t looking. We aren’t close, and even if you gained custody of me, you wouldn’t gain my recognition or my affection.”
Fu Qingya spoke with a blunt, clinical coldness. “I don’t need your care or your support. You don’t have to worry about me anymore.”
In other words, they could do whatever they wanted, as long as they left him out of it. He wouldn’t care, and he wouldn’t interfere.
The angry man met Fu Qingya’s eyes, which were devoid of any emotion, and for a fleeting moment, he felt a chill run through his limbs. In his son’s eyes, he saw no warmth, no filial piety, nothing but an endless, biting cold.
At that moment, he realized Fu Qingya meant every word. The boy would never yield or show affection just because of a blood connection. The man, who had originally intended to use Fu Qingya for his own ends, immediately shut his mouth.
The woman was more perceptive. She saw Fu Qingya’s resolve and, after a long silence, gave a slight nod.
“Since you don’t want to follow either of us, then don’t.”
“You can stay in this villa and continue living your life on your own.” She stood up and glanced back at him. “As compensation for ignoring you for eighteen years, I won’t give you a penny less than what you deserve. A lawyer will come by tomorrow, make sure you sign the transfer agreements.”
Even though she had never cared for him and didn’t particularly like him, he was still her son. She would provide the support she owed him. After that, they would cease all contact.
Seeing this, the man stood by, unable to find his words. Unlike the woman, he couldn’t bring himself to cut off half his assets and hand them over to Fu Qingya so decisively.
But looking at Fu Qingya, it was clear the boy wanted his independence. He was done with them, and he would no longer be entangled in their lives.
